    For anyone who came here to read comments: Try to optimize your fuel storage for example: do not stay with 11xFuel Storage but 2x Fuel Storage - Large and 1x fuel Storage. The same goes for engineers spaces and Maintaince Bays. It's much cost effective (Coliers, Tankers, Freighters)

    Thank you for the video. The only part that left me confused was why can't I build the ship after designed haha. Then I realized I needed two retool the shipyard. Thanks again, and I'm enjoying your other videos.

    Another awesome tutorial! Just out of curiosity, what's generally the best percentage of engines vs the total tonnage of a ship?

    • @DefranStrategy
      @DefranStrategy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on your doctrine, and what you want out of the ship, for most vessels i usually do 40% ratio to final tonnage but you can do less and instead increase power output, with commercial vessels they tend to be closer to 50-60% but more fuel efficient engines

      @@DefranStrategy Thanks! I couldn't find just a general "starting" percentage to tweak from.

      @@redcup217 i advise you watch some of my other ship design videos i kind of go over doctrine and philosophy more in those that might help you

    Whats the best tradeoff between extra geo and grav sensors vs. fuel storage?

    • @aurex8937
      @aurex8937 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, longer time taken surveying will inevitably mean more component failures, so more frequent overhaul trips back home. I remember making some calculations back in VB6 and as far as I can remember it's more efficient to put 2x geo and grav sensors instead of more fuel, but not by much.

      @@aurex8937 I usually try to have a balance of fuel, speed and sensors as it all effects it in some way.

    I realize this is an older video, but I am just starting out in Aurora 4X and I have a couple of questions.
    1. First, that checklist you called up. I designed my survey ship by following along; but, I wasn't able to find or call up the checklist in my game. How do I do that?
    2. After I designed the ship, I went to the space yard and tried to build it. But the construction drop down is till empty. How do I finalize the design so it shows up to build in the space yard?

    • @davespurlock985
      @davespurlock985 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alight I figured out my second question. You need to pick a suitable space yard ann retool it for the ship class you want to build first. Then you can construct that class of ship there.

    • @DefranStrategy
      @DefranStrategy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davespurlock985 That checklist is not part of the game, the point of it was to help train you to mentally think about such a checklist when designing your vessel.
      And as you have found out you need to retool your shipyard to use the design, to do so the shipyard needs to be of the right size, and type either commercial or military when compared to the ship.

    Sorry for stupid questions, but how do you build these classes? They dont appear in tasks

    • @DefranStrategy
      @DefranStrategy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      retool the shipyard first and make sure all components are researched
