  • After a tour of The New Yankee Workshop to preview the collection of furniture he will build in the first season, Norm visits a "retiring room" at the Hancock Shaker Village in western Massachusetts to find a model for a handcrafted medicine cabinet. Drawing inspiration from a looking glass and cabinet, Norm uses durable red oak and oak plywood to construct a medicine chest of his own design featuring box-joint joinery.

Its clear from the comments how influential and inspirational Norm and the New Yankee Workshop team were and are.
Uploading these all to TH-cam is a seriously amazing gift to the world (lets not forget how most old content of any kind is still somewhat valuable in terms of broadcast rights) from the team and hopefully it will allow a whole new generation of budding woodworkers to be inspired as well.

I loved watching this show and thinking to my self one day I wish I could have my own shop like Norm. My grandpa would build some really amazing furniture like Norm so this show really Brings back some great memories! Now I don't have my own shop but all my brothers have shops and have starting making allot or really cool things. Thank you for bringing Norm to TH-cam! A big thank you to whoever brought TNYW to TH-cam. What a gift. It’s an invaluable resource to new and aspiring woodworkers like myself. Even experienced woodworkers can learn something from Norm.
My 87 year old dad was a fine furniture builder for 60 years. He now has dementia and can’t remember much of anything anymore. I’m now 55 and finally decided to take up the hobby, something I wished I would have done decades ago. I could have learned so much from my dad. Shame on me for missed opportunities.
The next best thing to learning from my dad is learning from Norm Abram. Having access to episodes of TNYW is a godsend. Sure, tools and technology have changed a lot since then, but so much of it is still relevant today.

The early seasons have a lot of unsafe practices in them. Never cut cheeks as shown, and if you do, cut the shoulders afterwards. If you want to cut them on your TS, use a tenon making jig, Delta has/had one, or you can easily make one - the Franz Klausz one is also great. These early seasons are just packed with unsafe ideas.
You can safely cut the tenons, on a BS, and remove the ripple on a router table, or with hand place, or hand router plane.
Of course you can do them all by hand, and it isn't all that difficult.

I'm almost done a cabinetmaking foundations program. I wish I had found this sooner, there's so many good tips and tricks that are still relevant today

This great, thanks for uploading all the videos. Norm just showed a trick I have never seen, making the box joint and cutting both pieces at the same time, works perfect.

You can see how norms techniques changed over the first few season. He seemed much more like very good carpenter then by the end he was a wizard that could build anything with ease.

This released the year I graduated from high school. My Dad introduced me to this show in the '90's after I got out of the Army. This brings back lots of memories! It helps inspire me to combine my blacksmithing skills with some of these projects to see what happens.

I never missed an episode. Watching this show gave me the confidence to build kitchen cabinets over 20 years ago. Thanks for the uploads.

Are the plans available for these projects? If so, how are they obtained? I believe the plans to go with these projects would make a great gift.

Wow! I had forgotten that in the early days Norm used a Shopsmith for some of the operations.

So happy that these are posted! I cannot wait to watch them all again. It is amazing to think about the evolution of the tools and techniques Norm uses as the progression of the show goes along. Are the measured drawings still available?

I can't believe I'm now able to watch these shows. They should still be on TV. I love these shows and been a faithful watcher for most of my life.
