My 2009 Ram 2500 has a 5.7 Hemi and has only 66,000 miles. It had the Hemi tick and when I took it to the dealer for service they found a cracked exhaust manifold and broken mounting bolts on the exhaust manifold to block. After they replaced the bolts and exhaust manifold the ticking disappeared and runs awesome.
I have a 2018 Ram Express 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and I also turn the dial to Drive and use the steering wheel buttons to gear down to #8....the cylinder cut out/ECO Mode will be disabled. I have 180,000 miles on my truck and no lifter tick or exhaust tick. I also service my oil and trans fluid faithfully. Thanks for the video! Cheers!! 🍻🍻
Go with the Melling oil pump over the hellcat pump, the Melling oil pump is a direct fit, it'll give you 44psi at full temp idle and max out at 99psi while driving, the hellcat oil pump will do the same but you need to change the spring
My 2019 user manual for the Laramie recommends Penzoil synthetic. I use that with the manufacturer's filter. Every 4000 miles, I had a 2014 with bad lifters
On my 2019 Yukon with the 5.3 V8 I only use the transmission in 5M. I lock out 6th gear. If you try 6M it will still go into the AFM 4 cylinder mode. On the highway it turns about 2,200 @ 75 mph. No big deal and I get 24-25 mpg. 27.4 mpg best ever @ 70 mph. I have the tow package and 3.42 rear gear ratio. The Hell with 6 speeds and AFM ! The AFM will not turn on in 5M.
My father has a 2019 silverado with 5.3. He got it disabled after his engine was consuming and alarming amount of oil. After it was disabled it stopped consuming oil. The dealer said the oil consumption was normal which is BS
Redline 5w30 is known as the "Hemi Honey" for a very good reason - it works at even quietening a ticking engine. It doesn't "get rid" of the tick as some people claim. It just makes the tick so quiet that you will not even be able to hear it unless you use a mechanic's stethoscope. I cannot use 5w20 on my truck because of where I live. It is what caused the tick in my trucks. It has been recommended on the forums to switch up to a 5w30 oil because in the long run, the 5w20 is not good for the Hemi. It's now pretty much a proven fact that manufacturers are recommending the thinner oils just to get that little bit more efficiency from an engine for better EPA ratings. When you ask people with high mileage trucks, who have never faced the tick and never used Redline, you figure out that they don't necessarily follow the manual to the letter. They always use a good 5w30 or 0w40 oil and will always do the changes at 3000 - 3500 miles. Having faced the dreaded lifter tick 3 times on 2 different trucks, I can safely say that if you want to prevent the tick, do the same thing as I suggested. Switch up to a good 5w30 oil as soon as possible before you develop the Hemi tick. If your budget can hold up to Redline 5w30, the use that. If not, a good 5w30 or 0w40 oil will do. Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 0w40 will do nicely. Currently running it on my truck without a single issue. th-cam.com/video/33XQO6eVrsM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bzYXiLVu-w-rh6ad There will be those who say that you need to run 5w20 because of the MDS, but that is not true. @@zuriiiii77I followed the manual to the letter (5w20) and it bit me in the butt, more than once. My brother's 2004 Durango was specified to have 5w30 and never faced a tick. However they will gladly sell me 5w20 if I'm doing the oil changes myself. Classic stitch-up. The point I'm making is that 5w20 is not a bad oil, but its too thin for the Hemi, especially for those who live in warm climates where it touches 40.C in Summer. My next door neighbor manages the service department at the local Ram dealership and informed me what the issue is with the Hemi Eagle (current generation). The issue isn’t MDS, it because, due to the camshaft being raised higher in the engine, the lifters are insufficiently lubricated at low idle. The only fix, according to Ram allowing no prolonged engine idling periods. He has several clients with Ram trucks with 150k with no lifter issues, but also has a lot full of law enforcement vehicles powered by the 5.7 - because of extended idling periods. My 2015 Ram blew two lifters at 130k - I let him idle way too much. Other than the engine - best truck I ever owned.
Yeah it's definitely a lubrication issue. MDS is more annoying to me personally. When I cam the truck I do plan on adding the hellcat oil pump as well which will increase the volume of oil being pushed through, which I think will also help a ton.
if I know about the hemi tick before I bought one,I will never ever own a Ram,this tick suck, and is very expensive to fix with no warranty it will not hapend again.
