  • Connecting two pieces in #Tinkercad End to End is not something you can do with the centering tool. So this video shows you how I do it to create a single object from two objects connected end to end for #3DPrinting.

    I love how cad programs make simple task complicated and there’s no way around it

    • @egg5802
      @egg5802 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love how cad programs try to add a new feature for every possible simple action, leading to a ui so dense and overworked everybody just uses ~3 of them and does everything complicated anyway. There’s probably some option buried in submenus that does exactly what we want to do, but it would take longer to get to it than just using the basic tools.
      Sorry, I definitely just vented a lot of frustration.

      uh, press D for Drop after setting the plane on the end, so yeah, there is a way around it.

      Plasticity gets around it. This complex looking task here is two button clicks in plasticity.

    Hit "D" after you change the workplane (with the alternate object selected) to get it to zero out without having to reference the ruler

    Can also just click D after using the WorkSurface tool and the active piece will drop to 0 without any additional steps

    Or switch on 'snap to grid'. Move 1st item so the face you are interested in snaps to grid. Then butt the second item face up to it. They both have to snap to the same grid. Never fails for me, and much quicker.

    Press “D” instead. This [D]rops Object Two onto the new workplane on the chosen surface of Object One. No need to measure anything

      @gbass01 is correct. Skip the ruler. After alignment and selecting the face 1 as the plane. Select the face 2 and press "d" (drop). This drops object 2 to the plane which is the face of object 1. Then continue on with selecting both objects and merging 😊

    I almost stopped using Tinkercad after they removed user-defined shape generators. This is also such a buggy system. You can join 2 pieces together like this and then find a 0-sized gap between them which will be an issue during 3d printing. I usually join pieces with some margin.

  • @ThatSmashGuy

    Or just, move it to the other piece? Or just use the ruler to find the length of both peices, then delete one and change the length of the remaining peice to the length of both pieces combined

    I know the community dislikes it, but this is dead simple with Microsoft's 3D builder. You can either set the coordinates manual or drag and have them 'snap' together and one button click to join them. However I have to learn tinker cad... as it is a more powerful tool.

    Ugh... I wish I saw this when it came out... I was slicing a game board piece container into 3 segments in Tinkercad (sorry that's how I would describe it in Cricut designer) so I could elongate the middle section to make it a taller container without changing the dimensions of the entire container. Trying to regroup the 3 sections by eye was a nightmare.
