Highlights of the Women's Individual Foil Semi-Finals during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Fencing was included for the first time at the 1896 Games in Athens, and has remained on the Olympic programme since then. The women's fencing competition entered the Games in 1924 in Paris. Today, men and women compete in individual and team events, in which three types of weapon are used: foil, epee and sabre. The foil was, at first, the only weapon used by women, until the 1996 Games in Atlanta, when women's epee was introduced. Women's sabre appeared for the first time on the Olympic programme in Athens in 2004.

The differences between the women's and men's foil matches are really outstanding. The women's is so much slower and careful, almost like epee, and the men sometimes jump out like sabreurs. I'm a beginning fencer so I don't really know what I'm talking about but it's just really interesting to me to watch.
As a former epee fencer I would disagree that epee fencing is slower. In fact it is the fastest weapon.
@@btr152 I think she means the matches themselves are slower, since they seem to be a bit more thought out as its happening and they don't just go head on.
You still a beginner? Probably not but I am and I agree with you on that part of differences
pro trick : watch movies at flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Remington Zechariah Yea, I've been watching on flixzone} for years myself :)
Nam's footwork is remarkably stable and smooth!
Im here because of na hee do

Amazing!!! this is one of my favorite competitions! I love FENCING!!!!!
«En garde! Prêts? Allez!».
I can't stop to feel bad for anyone that has to face Di Francisca.
Nam did good though.
Why
The scream shows dominance, and many fencers scream to show dominance, which can be intimidating for the opponent. It's a personal preference. Personally, I don't scream, but I know many who do
I mean I do it because I'm freaking out and it's a good way to boost confidence
It’s an emotional sport
Announcer: "Yeah, it doesn't go much past 'counter riposte', does it?"
Yeah, it does sometimes.... Every so often, you'll find yourself slugging it out in a long, drawn-out phrase... Some of the most fun fencing there is! :D
"Counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter parry riposte".... Usually ends in an off-target hit. :P
Some of the most stressful, too, but where's the fun without the stress?
Love it!
I love fencing!!!
nice!
Can someone help me understand a couple of things please?
1) What happens if they cross sides'? If one person goes for an attack and they end up on the other side of the catwalk?
2) When play restarts for an incorrect hit do they go back to the middle every time?
It's been a while since I fenced but if I remember correctly: 1) After fencer A crosses fencer B, B gets one chance to hit A (usually the ref will just count a beat) after which halt is called. 2) they do not go back to the middle, they stay where they are but reset the spacing between themselves to the same distance as when they start from the center
1) the match still continues until being halt by the referee, and after the halt if one of them gets the right hit they won't get the score
2) no, they start straight on that place
It's too much battery equips
TWENTY FIVE TWENTY ONE COME HERE
Same hahaha
So sad valentina vezzali did not win. my commiserations.
2521 😁
I'm all for celebrating personal victories, but was that scream/fist pump necessary after EVERY touch? That being said Nam and Di Francisca were well matched and both did an excellent job
Hahahahahahaha yes.
It’s fun, that’s all the reason needed
Fencing need better camera
It's too hard to.see who win
I only see lights on
if you remember which color is who (either red or green) then you will notice who made a score and not. You just need to focus on the colors and scores of each fencer, since it will gradually change anyways so to know who got a point.
Ladies and gentlemen, please do me a favour. I've searched for the video that Timea Nagy VS Maureen Nisima in the individual épée semifinal, 2004 Athens Olympic, for days, but failed. If you find it or have it right now, please @ me. Please, please, please!
wait what was that fencing move where you give your opponent a false sense of confidence by letting them get ahead of you by a few points then change it up and go full skill in the final bit of time..
I think this might be something in all 1v1 or team v team sports.
But in this case these guys are all Olympic level, so to give your opponent even a few points is just. Why.
Name is lefty and faster avoiding well
I take fencig
U will understand if u take fencing
Na Hee Do!!!😂❤️

Lol, that's how you her scream works, it screws with your opponent and boosts your morale. Think of it like a warcry.

Poor announcer.

Mens foil is so much more action packed. Honestly this feels more like Epee than anything else
EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
エペみたいやしw
I have nothing against Nam, Koreans, or anything against anyone on the left side of this video.
I have everything against that ridiculous scream after every point.
That lady howling like a banshee in heat, after every strike makes it so cringy, it's hard to watch.
Have u seen fencing lol
Petit saiais pas en grand
진짜칼이면 둘다 찔린다 다행스포츠
What is the necessity to scream? Its SO annoying!
It's a vent and I, as a fencer, I need to do this
For me it builds confidence and pumps me up for the next touch.
