For those wondering why that "special feature" has to be so secret ... it's because licensed player manufacturers are technically forbidden from allowing it. That's why most players have to be modified, to gain that functionality (by aftermarket 3rd party entities or kits).

Wait is it not legal to switch "topic we do not discuss" freely? The only real playback bug I've come across with the oppo has been with mkv's over SMB when trying to play Atmos tracks. If you play a mkv that does not have Atmos, then try to switch to one that does, no audio will play. Might be the only actual issue I've had with my oppo
Yeah, it's strange, I don't get it either. Anyway, the Oppo does have a bug with MKV audo. You need to rip MKVs with the Dolby Atmos track and another Dolby track. Start the movie and switch to the other Dolby track and then switch back to the Atmos track and it should be good.
Hey Technodad! Saw your review and ended up buying the 200; great review BTW. I am quite impressed by the SACD playback. I owned a hot-rodded Oppo 205, which I sold for crazy money but, hey, someone wanted to pay that kind of money. In terms of audio quality differences between the two, I would say it's pretty even, maybe the Oppo is a hair better. I sent you an email about the secret features. I got the Panasonic UB820 when they first got released here in the states. I like it but I do miss the Oppo I used to have. How does the Reavon do with DVD upscaling? I don't watch a ton of DVDs but when I do I notice that I just don't like the way the UB820 handles it.
Hi Paul! I don't have the Oppo 205 so I can't say what the difference is with analog audio. I do know that the DAC chips are different in the X200 and UDP-205
If you already own one then your set. For anyone in the market, Oppo's are getting scarce, and ridiculously expensive. I have a modified 203, and its not going anywhere any time soon.

I called Oppo and asked to swap it as it was only a couple of weeks and I hadn't even burnt it in yet. They took the swap, and charged me the difference. I freakin love this thing. I spent $1200 or 1500 and they are selling for $3000 now. damn!
Properly done SACD does sound amazing, unfortunately that requires a serious player, I gave up using my OPPO for SACD and bought a Yamaha CDS1000, with dual dacs, etc, and even though a relatively old design, it sounds amazing, so not having one on a Bluray player is no big deal, you need a dedicated player to ear any kind of difference
Just clicked on the Reavon X100. The unit has coaxial and optical digital outputs. This could also be used for CD playback for my 2 channel setup. Looks like a really sturdy player, keep that laser steady!
There’s been a lot of region B blu rays I’ve passed on because of the region lock. The 100 sounds like I might need to put my Panasonic DP-UB9000 back on the shelf.
I haven't done a side by side with the sony and the Reavon, but the Sony's have to toggle Dolby Vision on and off and the Reavon players will switch automatically.
Yes they have several zoom options. As @Neil mark Taylor pointed out, not all discs. According to my emails with Reavon they say it is up to the studio to allow that capability when they author the discs. They are not allowed to override. Mostly any of the new movies from the major studios you will have problems with.
@@TechnoDad yes sir. It's just says THD on the front screen when playing atmos compatible movies. The receiver has no problem producing atmos for Apple TV, Netflix and Amazon video using my Samsung tv apps thru the receiver.

LG UBK90, like it except you can't manually force HDR playback on it. Looking for a new player eventually, but that's holding me over well.
This player does not support HDR10+ and I have not tried MKVs containing Dolby Vision. You can setup the player to force Dolby Vision though, if you want.
Hey technodad!I know this an old video, but I just wanted your advice on something as,I can see you are very familiar with reavon players.i replaced,my oppo 203 few months ago with a reavon x200.was very happy with the video performance and was only using sound through hdmi,but I recently had to return it to my dealer because it was making a buzzing noise and then just stopped reading discs,they didn't have a direct replacement for me and needed to send it to reavon but I purchased an x110 they had on display which they will refund me for when my x200 is replaced. I have the option of just keeping the x110 instead,and just wondering if there is sny difference on the video playback side between the x200 and the x110? Am I missing anything apart from the analogues by downgrading to the x110? Thx👍
So for the price, Sony X1100ES or Reavon X200? I don’t need XLR outputs, multi-channel analogue outputs, or HDR 10+ (my Sony TV doesn’t support it). Plus, the X1100ES is $800 cheaper.

I upgraded my oppo 203 with linear power supply, power plug and lead , made picture and sound on all formats so much better than standard, would highly recommend it
FYI... the first "O" in Oppo is a short sounding "O", as in "ah" -> "ah-PO"; it is NOT a long sounding vowel (not "oh -PO"), Btw, I've had the BDP 83 for over a dozen years and it still works great.
I have a Oppo 205 since new...the multi channel analog outputs and the CD analog output are not working ...and cant find any support from oppo... any ideas? Dont these new machine load slow????? I paid $2000 Canadian 4 years ago for the 205 and now the analog outputs dont work. I hope the Reavon last longer and stay in Business long enough to honor the warranty.
@Jim Hamlin I also have an Oppo 205. The multi-channel problem might be, in the set-up menu. I recommend going to the "Audio Processing" sub-menu, and double checking all the settings. Make sure all the speaker channels you have are activated. Also make sure the multi-channel output is not set to an improper "Downmix" mode, for your system. If none of that helps, it could be the analog outputs were accidentally muted. If so, use your remote's "Mute" button to correct that.

what i really would like to know does playes like these bring enhancement if you run fullhd content and we compare the other of the these player to my old panasonic dmp-bdt500. Im using nx5 but i don´t play alot of 4k discs as im more into 3d than 2d as i have two eyes 4k doesn´t really do me much but if i could improve my 1080p video that would make this reavon an interesting product to me.
Techno Dad my question here would be how does this compare to a home theatre PC using a Pioneer BDR-S12UHT UHD drive and a suitable player software suite? I purchased an OPPO 103-D wayyyy back in the day and used it to replace a Panasonic 3D capable Bluray player, and the difference was night and day. I had been running a very well callibrated Barco Cine 9 CRT projector with Boeing simulation grade tubes for a fair while by that stage, so i had about the very best display for the job of showing the difference. The image was noticeably better, and that OPPO 103-D still gets a lot of use to this day. Using the built in Darby the D variant of the OPPO 103 on a high end CRT projector gave some pretty nice results compared to a digital display. My 103-D has never ever missed a beat and still works without a hitch, although a few times i have had it show a purple screen, turning it off and back on fixed that, and i'm talking maybe 10-20 times in probably more than 2,000 movies that have been through that thing. Still got the big old Barco Cine 9, but have since built a better dedicated cinema room with 7.2.4 speaker layout and a Denon X3700 in pre-amp mode.
The only thing that should be compared is the chips upscale capabilities and how it handles black levels. Why would anyone get rid of the OPPO. There’s zero reason unless the player is failing.

Looking to upgrade my 4K player, the 2 options I have in mind are, Panasonic 820 or Reavon x100. I know there’s a $300 price difference between the two, but I’m ok with that. Need some opinions/feedbacks on which one to go with. Thank you in advance.
What are you intentions with it? I have my X200 with an LG OLED. Love it! As mentioned in the review, the Reavon has superior file playback. Not mentioned in the review is the zoom options the Panasonics don't have. This is great with older DVDs.

@@jorgepimentel4243 For just 4K disc playback, go with the Panasonic 820. The 9000 offers a metal chassis, analog outs that you won't use, and additional HDR optimizer settings for projectors. The options for your TV are the same on both units. Some on the AVS Forums claim they like the picture of the Reavon better. That is subjective. I have not owned the Panasonics but can tell you the Reavon picture is better than the LG UBK90. When I upgraded file playback abilities and audio options were important to me and why I choose the Reavon.
Man I been looking for a Blu-ray player. This will really solve my problem, if I win. I need it and been looking for one. I have an LG Oled television. This will be perfect.
Good review and it's a nice player but I will stick to my Dune. The Dune has HDMI in so I can connect my Sony 400 disk blu-ray player and upconvert all of my disc to 4k. I was surprised that you missed this in the "What not to like" category. The Dune also has the better DAC and it cost the same.

You didn't mention anything about hdr 10 plus support and in the last video you mentioned something about those compressed MKV files something about the aspect ratio. Hi Boro! Sorry, I forgot to mention, there is NO HDR 10+ support on this player. As far as aspect ratio, that was fixed in an update a few months back. You can use compressed MKV files without issue.

I emailed you about the feature you can't talk about. I also wanted to know if this players ethernet port is a gigabit port. At this point I probably won't buy since the company does not respond to my simple questions.
@@akasinned52 Reavon didn't answer your inquiry, about the "feature" because they can't. They are forbidden from discussing it, and that's not their fault. Reavon is a licensed manufacturer (by the BDA), and therefore bound by certain rules that prevent them from discussing this issue (publicly or privately). The ethernet port is not Gigabit, to my knowledge. It's only for software updates, BD-Live, and file playback from your home network.
Wow the secret feature is Universal region code right? Well Since most UHD Blu-ray’s are region free these days that feature, it’s not that big of a deal only if you buy blue-rays and DVDs.
This looks great. I have the Panasonic ub820, but I need a region free player for 3D movies sold overseas (Region B). Also, I miss the zoom feature on the Oppo 203 that I sold years ago to get the Panasonic Ub900.

So the player plays rips from disks saved into the MKV container containing DV and HDR10+ content?
This player does not support HDR10+ and I have not tried MKVs containing Dolby Vision. You can setup the player to force Dolby Vision though, if you want.

Album art with files yes , with CDs you get nothing
I have a Oppo 205 since new...the multi channel analog outputs and the CD analog output are not working ...and cant find any support from oppo... any ideas? Dont these new machine load slow????? I paid $2000 Canadian 4 years ago for the 205 and now the analog outputs dont work. I hope the Reavon last longer and stay in Business long enough to honor the warranty.
That's a shame to hear, Jim. I know that Reavon is a french company that is tied to Zappiti, so I think they will last a long time.
@Jim Hamlin I also have an Oppo 205. The multi-channel problem might be, in the set-up menu. I recommend going to the "Audio Processing" sub-menu, and double checking all the settings. Make sure all the speaker channels you have are activated. Also make sure the multi-channel output is not set to an improper "Downmix" mode, for your system.
If none of that helps, it could be the analog outputs were accidentally muted. If so, use your remote's "Mute" button to correct that.
@@christopherbrown5023 yeah hi...I've checked everything and always worked for the last 4 years with no problems, I have a Cambridge Audio player with multi channel and plugged it in ...thinking it might be my receiver...but it all works fine Thanks for your input...at least the HDMI is still working and will play everything DVD AUDIO, SACD and CDs etc.

what i really would like to know does playes like these bring enhancement if you run fullhd content and we compare the other of the these player to my old panasonic dmp-bdt500. Im using nx5 but i don´t play alot of 4k discs as im more into 3d than 2d as i have two eyes 4k doesn´t really do me much but if i could improve my 1080p video that would make this reavon an interesting product to me.
Sounds like a really nice player but already own and love my Panasonic DP-UB9000

Yeah, that would make sense as HEVC files are usually 10-bit and 4K HDR. The Oppo 103 will max out at Blu Ray discs, not 4K discs or files.
I do get some disk vibration on some disks

Still not convinced. The UB820/9000 still seems superior aside from stuff like file playback.

Techno Dad my question here would be how does this compare to a home theatre PC using a Pioneer BDR-S12UHT UHD drive and a suitable player software suite?
I purchased an OPPO 103-D wayyyy back in the day and used it to replace a Panasonic 3D capable Bluray player, and the difference was night and day. I had been running a very well callibrated Barco Cine 9 CRT projector with Boeing simulation grade tubes for a fair while by that stage, so i had about the very best display for the job of showing the difference. The image was noticeably better, and that OPPO 103-D still gets a lot of use to this day.
Using the built in Darby the D variant of the OPPO 103 on a high end CRT projector gave some pretty nice results compared to a digital display.
My 103-D has never ever missed a beat and still works without a hitch, although a few times i have had it show a purple screen, turning it off and back on fixed that, and i'm talking maybe 10-20 times in probably more than 2,000 movies that have been through that thing.
Still got the big old Barco Cine 9, but have since built a better dedicated cinema room with 7.2.4 speaker layout and a Denon X3700 in pre-amp mode.
No HDMI in.. Something OPPO has over all these other guys.

The only thing that should be compared is the chips upscale capabilities and how it handles black levels. Why would anyone get rid of the OPPO. There’s zero reason unless the player is failing.

Looking to upgrade my 4K player, the 2 options I have in mind are, Panasonic 820 or Reavon x100. I know there’s a $300 price difference between the two, but I’m ok with that. Need some opinions/feedbacks on which one to go with. Thank you in advance.
What are you intentions with it? I have my X200 with an LG OLED. Love it! As mentioned in the review, the Reavon has superior file playback. Not mentioned in the review is the zoom options the Panasonics don't have. This is great with older DVDs.
@@jjchmiel78 I’m just gonna use it for 4K UHD play. Will be getting the Oled C1 77” along with either Yamaha A4A or Onkyo RZ50 (still haven’t decided which of the 2), so tv and receiver are getting upgraded and I wanna do the same for the 4K player.
I would look for a used Panasonic 9000 instead of the Reavon 100.
@@jorgepimentel4243 For just 4K disc playback, go with the Panasonic 820. The 9000 offers a metal chassis, analog outs that you won't use, and additional HDR optimizer settings for projectors. The options for your TV are the same on both units. Some on the AVS Forums claim they like the picture of the Reavon better. That is subjective. I have not owned the Panasonics but can tell you the Reavon picture is better than the LG UBK90. When I upgraded file playback abilities and audio options were important to me and why I choose the Reavon.

Good review and it's a nice player but I will stick to my Dune. The Dune has HDMI in so I can connect my Sony 400 disk blu-ray player and upconvert all of my disc to 4k. I was surprised that you missed this in the "What not to like" category. The Dune also has the better DAC and it cost the same.
I own 2 oppo 4k bluray players. One is still sealed in the box..one is in being used.

Hey techno dad, great review as always. You didn't mention anything about hdr 10 plus support and in the last video you mentioned something about those compressed MKV files something about the aspect ratio. Can you tell me more about that, will it play this kind of compressed video files with Dolby atmos etc? Thanks and keep up the good work
Hi Boro! Sorry, I forgot to mention, there is NO HDR 10+ support on this player. As far as aspect ratio, that was fixed in an update a few months back. You can use compressed MKV files without issue.

I emailed you about the feature you can't talk about. I also wanted to know if this players ethernet port is a gigabit port. At this point I probably won't buy since the company does not respond to my simple questions.
@@akasinned52 Reavon didn't answer your inquiry, about the "feature" because they can't. They are forbidden from discussing it, and that's not their fault. Reavon is a licensed manufacturer (by the BDA), and therefore bound by certain rules that prevent them from discussing this issue (publicly or privately).
The ethernet port is not Gigabit, to my knowledge. It's only for software updates, BD-Live, and file playback from your home network.
Bought the Panasonic and wasn't impressed my oppo picture quality and audio was better I go off my on take not others .

Wow the secret feature is Universal region code right? Well Since most UHD Blu-ray’s are region free these days that feature, it’s not that big of a deal only if you buy blue-rays and DVDs.
Yeah, it's for people that need a region free player. You can mod the Panasonic UB820 for region free playback but that costs $750.
This looks great. I have the Panasonic ub820, but I need a region free player for 3D movies sold overseas (Region B). Also, I miss the zoom feature on the Oppo 203 that I sold years ago to get the Panasonic Ub900.
