If you bought from a Big Box Store , you have a certain time to test out the player before the return period(14- 30 days Best Buy), and maybe in the meantime there will be a new Techno Dad video review maybe comparisons to Panasonic and OPPO.
That's tough to say Marc. I'll need a bit more information about your setup. The Panasonics do have the HDR Optimizer for HDR 10 content, but file playback is not the greatest and you don't have SACD support. I'm trying to see what files the X100 will play, but I do know that only the X200 supports SACDs.
Depends on what you want it for. If it's video support, you probably should keep the Panny. If it's region-free playback, depends on whether you got your UB820 from a big box store or the like (NOT region-free), or a third-party modder or their Amazon or eBay store (region-free like mine). If it's SACD or analog audio output you're needing, return the Panny & get the Reavon 200.
@@richellebrittain2127 @Techno Dad True.. it all depends on what you need it for. For me it's all about lossless video file playback via network storage. I did notice online that both Reavon's will playback MKV and M2TS which sounds great! Assuming that it is the case as well through ethernet. But I also wonder if their video processing beats or matches that of the Panny's HDR Optimizer. I have 2 displays an LG OLED 77" and an Epson 4040 projector that I go back and forth with the Denon X3700h. Hope a video side-by-side comparison is coming soon :)
Great job techno you are the man , You are the reason I rip all my 4k bluray movies m2ts files with Atmos , and play all my 4k bluray folders with dolby vision and 3D folders , please check to see if it plays all the files as the oppo and the picture quality vs the oppo , And picture quality vs the Panasonic
I see the DVD logo with Audio/Video under it so it should do DVD-A although the X100 doesn’t have analog output. I guess it would deliver it through LPCM
I'm selling my Oppo 203 on eBay right now. Shocked to find the LG UBKC90 had a slightly better picture then that! I'm debating on bucking up and buying the 100 or Panasonic UB820 when that's on sale again. Or just keep the LG? Decisions decisions haha.
I have the X200 and if you mean files as in MKV and M2TS, it doesn't. I have reported that along with some other peculiarities and the response I got back is we are working out bugs that will hopefully be fixed next firmware. Whether or not they consider that a bug with the other things I mentioned I do not know. It will bitstream Atmos and DTSX audio though. Something I understand the Panasonics struggle with.
@@jjchmiel78 demo clips aren't the same thing as a "ripped" dolby vision files. Most players will play demo clips with no problem, which is quite the opposite with "ripped" dolby vision files on every player except the oppo from what I've gathered.
How are you getting on with your player? I bought a Sony Blu Ray player in 2019 but I get random skips during playback. They aren’t too noticeable to many, but I do notice random frameskips, that happen every 5 or 10 minutes, that make the odd word sound incomplete! I was hoping to get it replaced, but my parents were dealing with some rather personal issues that year. I am surprised. This is SONY we’re talking, a company we’ve had good history with! All our living room CRTs were Sony! I hope you aren’t having this problem with your Reavons, I’ve gotten the random frameskip issue with many DVD and Blu Ray players I’ve tried in more recent years…
I have the X200 and I have not got the zoom to work on Blu-ray or 4K discs. It did work with the MKV and M2TS files I tried. The zoom on DVDs is great!
Much better design than the Panasonic 👏 But how do you feel about it compared to the Panasonic UB420 & the UB820? Other than the region assignment and looks do you think the Revon 100 beats out the Panasonic for the extra money spent?
These Reavon players also have superior build quality, to the 420 and 820. As for video performance, it depends. The Panasonics have HDR optimizers which might be important. However, if your display or projector has sophisticated auto tone mapping features, then those on the Panasonics likely won't matter. These Reavon players also use the same Mediatek video chip, as the Pioneer UDP-LX500.
Nice overview Curious - 5:23 - BT2020 … how is that coming out as 4:2:0? Is the disc encoded improperly, or is the player set to convert BT2020 to 4:2:0 instead of 4:2:2? (I saw that it can output 4:2:2 in the previous section) Please check file playback, color accuracy , and for me I’d like to retain the social media and music apps on the player like the Oppo 105 had, but got removed from the 205.
Hi! That’s the disc information, not what’s being output from the player. The player at the time was outputting 4:2:2 to the Denon AVR. I changed the setting so now the Denon AVR is seeing 4:4:4 from the Reavon. I checked file playback and there’s was a big issue, no HDR from USB or network. They sent me an unreleased update to test and that issue has been resolved. I will be making a video about it next week.
@@TechnoDad - loads of important information with this info T-Dad! Thanks. I look forward to the usage review in time. I’ve been waiting to replace my oppo 105 , nad mcintosh ain’t trying to get my money… and Panny playing games…. So maybe this will be it.
The Product Sheet of the UBR-X100 doesn't specify SACD playback it only says DSD playback of digital files, however the in the 200 model it clearly specifies that capability on the player. Please confirm if the 100 model can play the SACD format.
+1 if possible to confirm. It does seem like the manufacturer indicates SACD compatibility only on the 200, which would be disappointing, and also they shouldn't call the 100 a "universal" player if it doesn't do SACD.
I like that that multi region code feature. Bought Valerian in 3D from Amazon and went to play it and come to find out that it's region B only. Very disappointed. Will consider buying this blu ray player. One question . Will it play back Auro 3D sound tracks?
Question 1: Will it stay on pause for an unlimited amount of time? Almost every other brand only pauses for a couple minutes then shuts off. My Oppos will stay paused for hours. Question 2: Also on the Oppos you can hit the Info button then the page down button and get a display of the count down of the disc. If a disc is 120 minutes the default info is counting from zero to 120 but using the info/page down it will start at 120 and go to zero. I know it's kinda late to ask this as I have already ordered my Revon UBR-X100 thanks for the quick review and discount code!
Answer to question 1 - yes it stays on pause for at least 20 minutes. Question 2 - I found away to 'see' the count down but could not get it to stay as a display. --> If anyone can figure out how to keep it to display please comment. Some random thoughts: The picture is really great. I was surprise it seemed to be nicer than my Oppo 203. On the screen, I noticed a weird box background when you hit play. I don't know if they have a firmware update yet so this might go away. It is a smidge taller than the Oppo 203 as my Oppo fit into a tight space but the Reavon is just a hair taller and would not fit into the same space. Remote: It's nice to have the buttons be in the exact same position (as the Oppo) so I don't have to relearn a remote.
I don’t think this will replace my oppo, but I looks good for those who are looking a new blue Ray player. One of the things about oppo is that it has a hdmi in, also play most music formats which I use on my two channel system is Roon ready and I use also Plex to stream music to my oppo.
Hey techno dad I just copped the LG C1 and I’m stoked! What mid range 4K player do you recommend? I want Dolby atmos-vision as well. I just subscribed btw great vid!
I appreciate you bringing this review to us. I gather it automatically handles all formats. Please us know how it compares to the other top end units; before the 10% discount runs out! Also what is the warranty on it? Thanks again!
The warranty is 2 years. Besides the Panasonic UB9000, there aren't really any other comparable top end units, to these Reavon models. None currently on the U.S market, anyway. Most of what's out there are low end players made of mostly plastic.
I've been a little curious about adding a 4K Blu-Ray player to my home setup. Currently, I've been happy with streaming; Netflix, Disney+, iTunes. I had previously used my PS4Pro to play a few Blue Ray disc a couple years back. I have like 4 discs. When I watch 4K streaming content on my LG CX, I do notice a nice difference from 1080p streaming content. Occasionally, I will want to watch an older title on streaming. But it's not available. And then that makes me start to think about getting a 4K Blu-Ray player to be able to watch it. Every year around the holidays, there is that Panasonic 4K Blu-Ray player DP-UB### that goes on sale. That looks enticing. The Reavon UBR-X100, is much more expensive. I don't know if it's that much better than the DP-UB###. With any new gadget, I usually have a long period of thinking about it and studying it before I get it. Thanks for the video. Now I got more options to consider.
Hi! Sorry, I had to take that part out of the video, it's about changing the region of the player to play Blu Rays and DVDs from other parts of the world.
How would you compare these to the Panasonic DP-UB820 4K Ultra HD Blu ray player....also are you able to connect these to a projector and give your feedback on how good they look with projectors? Right now i have the Panasonic DP-UB820 and the Optoma CinemaX P1 4K UHD Ultra-Short Throw Laser Cinema Projector and they work so good together
@Scott Luther lol yeah that much I know. I meant has he connected this to specifically the optoma cinemax p1 since he did a review on that projector, or has he connected it to any other projector, as the picture quality will be different compared to a 4k tv. Want his thoughts on how well they work with projectors. I've had many 4k players, and none of them worked as well with a projector, as the Panasonic DP-Ub820. Its Optimizer function was a game changer
Hope that's not too goofy for me to ask, but how the heck can I enter the input/output menu shown in 4:58? I'd really appreciate your help guys. Pressing the info button shows input and output of the audio, but i wasnt even aware of an existing input/output video menu. Thx a lot
The subtitle option is pretty much the same at the 203. (I didn't look to see if they could be dimmed.) When using the subtitle menu it lags on the screen for a bit longer than I would like to see.
Can you please do a comparison between the PS5 and this? I feel like the majority won’t buy a 800 dollar Blu-ray player when they can buy a 500 dollar ps5 that has a Blu-ray player built in. I think the only features this has over the PS5 is 3D Blu-ray playback and Dolby vision (the PS5 supports Dolby Atmos but not DV!) are those the only differences between the two or are there more?

@@keepingupwiththejones2933 There's that word "should".
Hope not. I’ve got the 820 region b so would lock it in for region a if it happened but would be crap if it’s your only player.
Awesome video, I like how they left one specific for home theater they keeps it more affordable instead of just having the all in 200x where so many people won't use the SACD option.
Would love to see how it compares to the Panny.
Right whem I was going to buy an Oppo, they stopped making them and used prices went through the roof. I hope the Reavon performs as well as the Oppo and they will hit a home run inn
Channa what dacs are on board the reavon x 200
It uses Texas Instruments Burr-Brown Audio PCM1690 DACs. That information is on Reavon's website.
Hello!! your follower here from Brazil!! it's possible to test if the device accepts external subtitles on Blu-rays as Oppo accepted! thanks!! greetings from Latin America!
Awesome, can it convert any progressive formats to Dolby Vision, like the Oppo?
Thanks mate, looks an awesome player.

They're a rip off, you'll never get a better picture than a Panasonic, end of story...
@@bryanp4827 my Zappiti is better than my Panasonic 820. That’s my story
@@paulcarroll627 is that a UHD player?
Another great video! I just bought the Panasonic UB-820 and it's still sealed in the box. Should I not open it and just get this one instead??????????? Please advise asap lol
Love that packaging man! Channa does either have SACD or DVD-Audio playback? The price of the 100 definitely has my interest antennas up.
Hi Kevin! Looks like the X100 does NOT play SACD, only the X200 plays SACD. I'm not 100% sure on DVD-A playback as I don't have any to test.
@@TechnoDad That figures! Thank You for getting back Channa.
I see the DVD logo with Audio/Video under it so it should do DVD-A although the X100 doesn’t have analog output.
I guess it would deliver it through LPCM
@@chriswindham9868 Thank You much for the info Chris. I have done LPCM through HDMI before. Have a great day man!
@@TechnoDad Eww, that’s gonna keep me from ordering the 100 then.
to be honest if I have that kind of money I would get the Reavon UBR-X100, the player looks so good and has no smart apps feature which I like
Yeah, I’m pretty over smart features, they are on EVERYTHING!
Get the Panasonic UB820. I personally use one of those and two UB9000. I came from Oppo 203… which picture quality is visibly inferior than the 820.
I'd like to know if it can play dolby vision files, thanks.
@@jjchmiel78 So it's pretty much still just the oppo 103/203 that can play dolby vision files, or is there any other way?
@@alexfernandez8083 My LG TV plays them, at least my demo clip.
Doesn't / didn't the box on the Raveon he showed have the Dolby Vision logo?
I hope you aren’t having this problem with your Reavons, I’ve gotten the random frameskip issue with many DVD and Blu Ray players I’ve tried in more recent years…
Can you please try out the Zoom function. I'm curious if it works on regular Blu Ray and 4k Blu Ray.
I have the X200 and I have not got the zoom to work on Blu-ray or 4K discs. It did work with the MKV and M2TS files I tried. The zoom on DVDs is great!
@@jjchmiel78 Odd. The Reavon manual says the "zoom" feature works for all formats, UNLESS the disc was authored to disable zooming.
Waow ! Very nice gears you have here ! Love it
Did you receive these units for free or in exchange for your reviews? Is it a paid ad? Thanks
Was this video uploaded in 720p?
Much better design than the Panasonic 👏
But how do you feel about it compared to the Panasonic UB420 & the UB820?
Other than the region assignment and looks do you think the Revon 100 beats out the Panasonic for the extra money spent?
These Reavon players also have superior build quality, to the 420 and 820. As for video performance, it depends. The Panasonics have HDR optimizers which might be important.
However, if your display or projector has sophisticated auto tone mapping features, then those on the Panasonics likely won't matter. These Reavon players also use the same Mediatek video chip, as the Pioneer UDP-LX500.
@@christopherbrown5023 Thanks!! 👍👌
Do they have gigabit ethernet?
Great Video. Techno Dad makes these understandable for non tech nerds. Does 100 level player have the region free feature?
Nice overview
Curious - 5:23 - BT2020 … how is that coming out as 4:2:0?
Is the disc encoded improperly, or is the player set to convert BT2020 to 4:2:0 instead of 4:2:2? (I saw that it can output 4:2:2 in the previous section)
Please check file playback, color accuracy , and for me I’d like to retain the social media and music apps on the player like the Oppo 105 had, but got removed from the 205.
Thanks.

I’ve been waiting to replace my oppo 105 , nad mcintosh ain’t trying to get my money… and Panny playing games….
So maybe this will be it.
Is there a rack mount kit for this player or does it look like an Oppo rack kit could be retrofitted to it?
The Product Sheet of the UBR-X100 doesn't specify SACD playback it only says DSD playback of digital files, however the in the 200 model it clearly specifies that capability on the player. Please confirm if the 100 model can play the SACD format.
Yes this ☝️
+1 if possible to confirm.
Any player will play Auro3D
The real question is does your **AVR** Support Auro3D? since the bed layer of auro is basic 5.1 which all AVRs can do.
All BD players will output Aura 3D (via HDMI). A compatible AVR or processor with Aura 3D decoding is required, for Aura 3D playback.
greets from the UK -- already Clicked the Like button -- this is gonna be Awesome! :-)
@Channa D, XBR-X200 what's the DAC chip?

Hi Juliano! I would go with the Panasonic UB820 - amzn.to/30sHrxt
Compared to the panasouib820 and 9000 are they better?!
Great video.
Whould this be the successor of the oppo or the Panasonic 9000, let's see a comparison video.
These Reavon players have the same Mediatek video decoding chip, as the Pioneer UDP-LX500.
I was watching the video and my girlfriend said hey look it’s Channa D😉
What is the “unadvertised feature” you teased at the beginning of the video?
Hi! Sorry, I had to take that part out of the video, it's about changing the region of the player to play Blu Rays and DVDs from other parts of the world.
Test if SACD ripping works the same way as on the OPPO
Maybe a silly question but how much better is this over budget pioneer / Sony player?
Hey would you compare these to the two Panasonic players!

Does the 100 compare to ub820 ????? Have 2 of them abs happy with them connected to 2017 and 2019 oled

What's this thing about downloading demos? I didn't quite catch what you were saying and how I can get them.
Thx man!
Hope that's not too goofy for me to ask, but how the heck can I enter the input/output menu shown in 4:58? I'd really appreciate your help guys. Pressing the info button shows input and output of the audio, but i wasnt even aware of an existing input/output video menu. Thx a lot
Can you check the external subtitle capability? Similar to the oppo? And can it drop subtitle luminance on discs like the Panasonic UHD players?
Are both the 100 & 200 both compatible to play discs from any region?

Hello Techno Dad, I am looking for affordable 4K player which could support Atmos, DTS-X and Auro-3D. Which one could you please recomend? Will XBOX One X fits the bill? Thanks!
Hi Phil! Do you need Dolby Vision?
@@TechnoDad Yes, I guess. I am new to this 3d audio word. I watched one of your video about Denon X4400H and auro-3d 5.1.5 setup with voice of God. So I am in the journey to find a budget 4K player for that purpose. I already have Sony X90CH TV which support Dobly vision. So Atmos, DTS-x and Auro-3d for audio and Dolby Vision for video. However please also recommend me a player without Dolby vision, Since I might just focus more on 3d audio right now. Thanks so much for fast responds! You are awsome!
Can either of these machines play SACD or DVD-Audio?
The 4k player is probably the last piece of the puzzle I'll replace but good to see there's more competition since it's pretty much Panasonic and some really old Sony/LG/Samsung players at this point. If my Sony X700 dies I'd be interested but I'd probably go for a $500 Panasonic.
@Scott Luther Easier just to pop the disc in, plus if I rent a disc which I do often having to rip it first would be a pain. Although if I did I could pretty easily run Plex off my shield pro.

The auto region code is an awesome thing Channa, but as far as picture quality goes, just about everything is up against it these days, compared to the Panasonic players...I had an Oppo BDP 105D, and just playing normal blu ray discs, my Pano UB 820, is far superior...
