I bought an X110 to replace my Oppo 203 which was starting to have caching issues after 7 years or so of going strong. The first Reavon x110 unit I received, the loading mechanism fell apart and jammed the draw on the second disk I loaded (you could literally hear it crashing around inside when I picked the unit up), the replacement unit I got a week later showed random white and black blocks across the screen throughout 4k disk playback (and wasn't new, the remote had batteries in it, the cable had been re-tied and there were marks on the case). The third unit I got today locked up when I touched the volume buttons, paused the video and wouldn't respond to the remote or any of the buttons on the front panel including power or eject. I hard repowered the unit, ejected the disk and then the eject button on the front panel wouldn't take the tray back in nor would it with the remote button, I had to manually push the draw back in. And all three units were super noisy, I wanted to close the doors on my AV unit but of course the remote is IR. They seemed to quieten down a bit after play but I never heard any noise from my Oppo units. The CEC function on the Reavon unit doesn't work so you can't use the volume on the remote to control your AVR or TV volume even though that is what it should do. Even though the Reavon unit has a network port it can't update it's firmware via it so you have to use a USB which seems very archaic.
Being an $1800 unit in Australia I wouldn't expect one to be faulty let alone three in a row. I've had 3 Oppo players over the course of 12 years and 2 of them are still going strong and the last one a 203 needs a service and probably a mechanism replacement hence I bought the Reavon. Now I'm thinking $500 to fix the Oppo is the way to go. I wouldn't expect a failure rate like this on a $100 Samsung bluray player let alone an $1800 unit. Could Oppo please, please, please start making players again because if this is what we're getting for $1800 now when the Oppo 203 was $1000 new, it is a joke.
Long story short I did what I was originally going to do and ordered a Panasonic DP-UB9000.

Just got my REAVON a couple weeks ago and amazed with the 4K picture quality is just amazing I have the X100 and it's worth the $$$ granted it's not for everyone but for diehard movie addicts like me this is worth it. Yes I wanted an oppo for years this REAVON is perfect 🤩 great review 😊

I still am using my oppo 203 as my main 4k player wish I had bought an extra one before they stopped making them. Fantastic machine

I sold my oppo 203 and purchased the Reavon X100. With the new firmware update, it plays better than the Oppo 203.

I have had the Reavon X110 since it first came out. I replaced my Sony XM800. The customer service was so good as the first one I received needed software updates and they sent me a new one. It just seems to have such a flawless picture. I’m always looking for the beat picture possible in TV’s (lastest oled) and anything that connects to a high end TV.

I have the Reavon X100 and I haven't had any problems with it. It's also region free and you can play discs from around the world using a numbered code in the settings. Which you can find online in a search. Although I still recommend buying a used Oppo 203 if you want a flawless player that's still supported by Oppo even after the warranty has expired you'll still have to pay them a service fee and the shipping cost and they'll send it back to you.

As far as video processing goes, The Panasonic
ub9000 can play 4K SDR content in the correct bit
depth of 10 bit, all other mediateck chip players
(including Magnetar and Reavon, Pioneer, Cambridge), play it back incorrectly at 8
bit. The Magnetar and Reavon players are great for multi disc type playback such as SACD, but nothing
beats the Panasonic for video processing. The
scaling on the Panny is superior too, spears and
munsil test patterns confirm this. In real world
content it might be hard to see unless pixel
peeping is carried out under a microscope. No
doubt for file playback and analogue audio, the
Magnetar would come out on top. For me though,
my 4k player is about picture quality and audio
via hdmi, so it's the Panasonic ub9000. It is THX certified as well and weighs 7.8 kg.

I had the Sony m1 (actually 3) all with issues, then the Sony m800m2, returned that after 2 weeks, problems with 100gb discs. Now have the Panasonic ub820 and it's been perfect. I prefer the Sony design and build quality but the thing had 1 fn job to do and couldn't do it.

I had a Panasonic UB820 for one night before I returned it due to the build quality for the price asked. I got the Cambridge Audio CXUHD, which is basically a clone of the Oppo 203 without the analog outputs (I really wanted a 203 but they had already shut down operations), and that unit developed a strange "ticking" sound when playing DVDs - I sent it back three times under warranty and they couldn't find or fix whatever was wrong with it. It still makes the noise to this day.
I ended up getting the Panny UB9000, based on build quality, and that unit has already been back for repair to fix a noisy disc tray/drawer and because 4K discs were freezing up and causing the whole chassis to vibrate and make noise. They replaced the drive and I haven't had any problems....yet.
The only option after this is a REAVON or Magnetar, though I really don't want to go through this nonsense with any more premium players.

I bought the reavon x200 after few months had issues with playback and drive noise.returned it and due to lack of availability ended up with the x110.its generally free of the issues I had with the 200,but still has some intermittent issues occasionally, which I do find annoying. But having owned an oppo 203 I do know these high end machines are very sensitive. On plus side the pictures it produces are excellent. I think above the oppo in that dept. I am actually considering getting a magnetar at some point, as I've heard they are bulletproof and even better than the reavons. But very expensive

player made annoying buzzing sound, plus some discs did not read properly. Also optical lense was replaced with warranty. Made it even worse.

I have the oppo uhd 203 and it’s like a complete copy and paste. Even the remote is basically the same and the menu screens are very similar

This is like the 5th or 6th OPPO clone. They all once they sell stock close up shop with no parts available for replacment. This is also the most expensive of these player brands with each iteration padding that price compared to OPPOs initial offering price of 203 and 205 even with inflation. Better to go with Panasonic as they have supported the players for so long with much more likelyness of parts availability in the future.

Even the menu looks ‘Oppo’. I also think Oppo sold there remaining chips, and small companies just put another SW layer on it. And this is the only way these ‘look what a nice box’ companies can make players. No way a small company can make a decent video processor. They have to source it, and I don’t think Pana, LG, etc will supply there processing chips. (No HDR+ and HLG?) The reviewer states that a high quality BR player gives the highest bitrate. This is not correct, a player can not reduce the disc’s bitrate. It’s all or nothing.

This player and remote looks identical to oppo, too much of coincidence. I have oppo 203 going strong and pioneer elite lx 500.

As many, many people have already mentioned: this is just a clone of the OPPO machines and I would have to wonder whether Oppo sold their hardware and software architecture to these companies because they're almost carbon copy, right down to the remote.
In fairness to the Sony, the Reavon machine is not a budget player, certainly not in terms of price tag anyway, which the Sony definitely is.
At least this Reavon isn't as pretentious as the Magnetar, with its Battenberg cake front fascia🤣 and its Ethernet only network capabilities 😭
Unfortunately if you want a universal disc player that can play SACD, then this is the only machine since the Panasonic's don't have that ability😢
For those people that really must have the best, the only way to go is to save up your pennies and buy an Oppo (even without any kind of warranty)
One last thought: are you being paid to review this machine?

  • @warpathh

This is a garbage shill review and worthless presentation of information. There are better reviews with more information, from much more trustworthy sources. A Panasonic UB820 is significantly less expensive and equal/better quality, and has all the features most physical media collectors want. The Reavon is good, but the extra features are wasted on most people’s home cinema setup.
