    Thanjs! Might have to replace my water pump. 2010 Mercruiser 3.0. Just replaced the Alt belt now it soounds like water pump is making noise. Maybe the belt isn't tight enough so will check that first. I did't notice a gasket with that new water pump. So sealant no gasket?

    I have a Mercruiser 3.0 that is quickly over heating. I’ve replaced the thermostat and impeller. It’s still overheating. I want to circulate some Evapo-Rust rust remover through the cooling system. The stuff takes some time, but it works like magic, removing rust by an ‘enzyme action’. What do you think it a good way to RECIRCULATE it through the engine? Some way of connecting the intake from the impeller to the output from the manifold?
    Your videos are great, simple and clear. Thanks for the quick answers!

    • @daleofalltrades
      @daleofalltrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your wanting to recirculate through the system the easiest way would be to get a kiddie pool catch the exhaust water in it and pump it back the the impeller inlet with a pond pump or something... You will run a even higher risk of over heat while doing this as your pumping hot water back in... I have a suspension something is clogged on your inlet or outlet side. The manifold may be so clogged up it may be time to replace... Also if you have overheated pretty bad more than once check your compression on cylinders 2 and 3... These engine love blowing head gaskets once over heated for the smallest amount of time. Good luck and thanks for the compliment

      @@daleofalltrades So after trying several unsuccessful water muff tests feeding water to the engine, I finally disconnected the water feed from the outdrive and connected a garden water hose to the water feed to the thermostat housing. And lo and behold, water went through the engine properly, and the engine didn’t overheat!
      Bear in mind I already replaced the impeller and the thermostat. So the problem in in the outdrive or the water feed from the outdrive. There is supposed to be some possibility of a kink in the water hose, but I can’t imagine that. I can’t imagine any other error in putting the outdrive together. The only other possibility I can think of is that I put the impeller in backwards/upside down.

    • @daleofalltrades
      @daleofalltrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jimbaranski4687 the impellers are self correcting in a sense so it it was backwards it should have straightened out in its own. I'm willing to beth there is old impeller material stuck somewhere in the feed system of the out drive restricting flow. You have narrowed down the search now you just have to tear that apart and figure out where the issue lies.

    • @jimbaranski4687
      @jimbaranski4687 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daleofalltrades Yeah, but the impeller I removed was still in good condition??? I’ll pull the lower unit off again. And check it out. My boat is circa 1996; I don’t see how there is room in the metal housing for the impeller to flip directions; it seemed stiffer then that.
      I’d like to find out more information about the path from the Impeller to the engine…

    • @jackjohnson3220
      @jackjohnson3220 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you guys ever get it figured out? I had a 3.0 that kept overheating, went thru and replaced everything, pump, impeller, hoses, t-stat, still overheated. It wasn't until I tore the engine down that I found that upon removing the t-stat housing/ hose manifold from the head that a piece of old impeller had found its way up to the head and got lodged right there, it had rust and barnacles or rust bubbles all over it and had clogged that passage completely, come to find out on that block, that is the bypass passage and if it doesn't have flow, the coolant system just doesn't work at all. The actual explanation is more technical but that's the jist of it.

    Secondly, Boat clicks when turning the key over. When hot or cold, I usually need to "jump start" it by making a connection with the solenoid myself to get it started.
    (fuses, wires, relays, starter solenoid, batteries, starter have all been updated and read correct voltage) do you have any other suggestions on what it could be??

    • @daleofalltrades
      @daleofalltrades  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The starting issue could be bad cables from the battery and not providing the amperage needed for starting. They get exposed to a lot of water. The over heating issue could be a plugged exhaust manifold also. I also have a video going over many other possibilities for over heating

      Oh boy! Out of the top of the drive unit? I'm not 100% sure what part of it you are talking about. However that's never good. To give you an accurate guess I'd have to see it. But there's a few questions I have.
      1. Is it engine oil? Check the dip stick is there water in your oil or is the oils low
      2. Was it winterized
      3. When you say top of unit do you mean out of the exhaust

      @@daleofalltrades okay, I just uploaded the short, so it was winterized. and I don't believe it is cracked, the reason I believe it was a seal is because in the bottom left corner of the video you can see water getting dumped down by the starter so I would think that would just be a broken seal.

    • @daleofalltrades
      @daleofalltrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok just watched it. That's water mixing with your engine oil really bad and it's coming out of you valve cover breather that's spose to vent into the spark arrestor. The water pouring out by the starter is not good either. I hate to say it but I really think you have a cracked block. Or a bad head gasket. But I'm leaning towards a crack somewhere. I'd start tearing it apart and investing. Running it like that will only cause more damage. Cracks can in some cases be repaired. I have a video series on the head gasket also.

    Is the back of the water pump solid? It looks like behind the water pump is an open hole into the black. Is the water pump a complete shell, or is it open in the back?
    What is the flow of the coolant water? If I understand it correctly, the water comes from the impeller in the out drive, through a medium size hose over the top of the engine. Does it go to the water pump on the front of the engine or the thermostat or what? It looks like it goes into the housing below the thermostat where the coolant hoses go from the water pump through the thermostat to the manifold, but that doesn’t make any sense. It must somehow go into the block and then back to the water pump? Hence going up to the thermostat and manifold?
