As an American firearms instructor and 2nd Amendment advocate, this is an extremely enlightening and informative conversation. Americans often take for granted the explicit prohibition of government infringement on our right to keep and bear arms afforded to us via the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution. Hearing discussions about the implications of gun rights legislation on other rights is exactly why gun rights advocates in the U.S. fight so vehemently against new and existing legislation.
Yet I still cannot legally carry a firearm in my state despite the 2A and the Bruen decision. This is why we should NEVER have started down the road toward firearm control, once government starts infringing rights it is nearly impossible to gain the free exercise of them back. Even in the most "hands off" state it is still not as free as it was before we embarked on the path of firearms controls.
@@Anon54387 There are still a couple states that have not felt the full benefit of the Bruen decision because those states passed what I call "tantrum laws" to immediately burden the precedent set by the decision, like New York did with the Concealed Carry Improvement Act which was passed just 8 days after the Bruen decision. Litigation takes time but hang in there. The dominoes are falling left and right under the Bruen standard.

Every dollar wasted to consultations and confiscation is a dollar that could be spent saving lives in healthcare, training police, hiring police, changing the socio economic situation in gang zones. We don't need more laws.👎 We don't have enough resources to police the laws we DO have which is why we have issues. The politician create policies that pander to those with fears and phobias, it has nothing to do with actually public safety but PERCEIVED safety, hence the legal gun owners being scapegoats...

The Right to Keep and Bear arms dates back to 1689 under British Common law. This was the origin of America's 2nd amendment. Canada operated under British Common Law until 1982. We had this Right until Trudeau Sr. created the Charter of Right and Freedoms and decided not to list it explicitly. Now his son is finishing the job his father started.
Agreed, his father set the stage, and I believe that it was Chretien who brought in the current Firearms Act. It is written in such a way to allow the banning of any firearm they please. This Act needs to be abolished, and replaced by something that makes sense.
Here in Ontario the federal police (RCMP) is the CFO. This explains it in a nutshell. Police who are not lawmakers continue to make regulations not law but they are to be followed like law. It’s a very bias and tyrannical way to control firearm owners. I’ve written the Ontario premier Doug Ford and asked him to help implement a CFO such as Alberta’s but he obviously don’t care about the Poor bias system we are under here in Ontario. Allot of firearm owners want to move to AB especially with the new AB constitution with respect to firearm ownership. Thanks to Dr Bryant for leading the way ,you are very well admired by legal firearm owners.
Gun laws are rarely based on safety, they are based on Control. The only item that comes to mind in regard to safety, is the requirement to have a Canadian Firearms Safety course in order to possess a firearm. Every other law, mandate, OIC is purely about control. Excellent interview. Very happy that Dr. Bryant is Alberta's CFO.

Great interview, I feel a lot more optimistic about the future for firearms in Alberta knowing Dr. Bryant is out there advocating on our behalf. So refreshing to have a person in a position of power like CFO being so well informed and frankly down to earth.

I love Dr. Bryant's take on rights. I agree completely. Governments DO NOT give us rights. Our rights are innate and governments can recognize and protect those rights or violate them. They can neither grant, nor take them away.
If Dr. Bryant is reading this, could you please reconsider the requirement that ATC holders have to retake the Proof Of Proficiency test every two years? I realize you want to be assured of proficiency but, as someone who has held an ATC for a number of years, I have already taken the POP four times now and... well, it's very expensive. Perhaps you could set a point where you say, "Okay, we know this person is able to shoot well now. No need for testing him/her again and again every 2 years." As far as I know, some other provinces don't require POP retests once it is passed the first time, so Alberta appears more restrictive about this requirement (perhaps a left-over of the previous CFO). I disagree. I'm a fan of drastically lowering the price, but any ATC holder really needs to be the best of the best. I would like to see a wide variety of realistic training scenarios as well. If you hit a bystander in the hotel lobby or the Starbucks across the street, it will be very hard to live with. You better believe it!

This is not the U.S. and it's not for people having run-and-gun battles in the streets. I suggest you acquaint yourself with the subject first before shelling out irrelevant advice.
@@TheWaytoNativeChronicles If you need an ATC (I'm assuming you mean concealed rather than wilderness) it's likely because you feel you are in danger of being targeted by one or more assholes. The problem is that you will have no way of knowing when or where you will be when they show up. Whether you hold an ATC or not, you still need eyes on the back of your head in downtown Vancouver. It's a Hellhole! But never mind all that. Let's say you run a jewelry store. Yes, jewelry stores get robbed, sometimes in broad daylight. Your ATC may come in handy in this situation, but if this (a broad daylight robbery) be the case, you will *DEFINITELY* need to watch your fire! I once did some research on police blue-on-blue accidents, and found that most of them occurred outside of buildings, especially (but not exclusively) at night. Bit of a tangent, but interesting nevertheless. But forget all that. Let's say you want to renew your ATC so that you can be the hero who stops a mass shooter. If this sounds like you, awesome! This country could use a few Eli Dickens* of her own. Again, you will need to watch your fire! Also, you will have to worry about being mistaken for the mass shooter by the cops when they finally show up. This has happened before. No shit. Of course, if you _do_ mean wilderness carry, forget everything I said, and don't bother reading my footnote, as it's irrelevant to your situation. *Note: While I believe most of Eli's story, I strongly suspect he did exaggerate on at least one point: the distance. I've seen everybody from Rick Igercich to Brandon Herrera to Kyle Rittenhouse, and everybody in between try and duplicate it. To my recollection, no one has actually nailed it perfectly.
I agree completely. Licensing and registration aside, the idea of the ATT for restricted firearms is completely ridiculous. I also agree that it should legal for restricted firearms to be carried and used anywhere that it is now legal to carry and use unrestricted firearms. I also feel that no long gun, at all, should be restricted. The restrictions should, if anything, only apply to the licensing and registration, but not the use, of handguns. The firearms act needs to be tossed out, and all firearms need to be classified as unrestricted by default, and only those firearms which fit a very narrow set of criteria should be restricted, or prohibited. The word "variant" needs to be scrapped, and could easily be scrapped if firearms were classified by objective criteria rather than by name.
@@whiskeytango9769 is there even any evidence that handguns owned by legal gun owners are problematic or more dangerous than other guns? Or that a 100 round 17 hmr magazine is less lethal than 10 rounds in semi auto carbine. The laws don't seem to be based in evidence. The police say gun control isn't working to stop gun crime. The public knows these crimes are being committed by criminals with illegal guns. Even the nova Scotia guy had illegal weapons. The chances of a person who is reasonable enough to go the legal route in acquisition probably isn't going to be shooting illegally or dangerously. Even if a gun is used in a crime that PERSON chose to commit a crime not a gun. In a perfect world noone has guns sure np. We don't live in a perfect world.
@@JakeFresno Licensed gun owners commit fewer crimes than off duty police officers. The best way to make a handgun safe is to sell it to a licensed firearms owner. I am fine with reasonable licensing but the evidence is clear that banning has no effect on crime, none.
Dr. Bryant said “most people are reasonable “. I agree, the majority of people are reasonable and want the same things. There is a very vocal minority who will never support private ownership of firearms and that reality needs to be addressed. Public safety is everyone’s responsibility with everything we do that affects others. Dr. Bryant is a terrific advocate and spokesperson for firearms existence in Canada. Canadians need to put some effort into keeping our rights and freedoms as defined in the Charter.
I’m 78, grew up in the country. Granpa gave me a 22 when I was 10. My friend had a BB gun. We used to hunt for rabbits and partridge. We learn how to carry a rifle, only aim at what you’re going to shoot. There was a small lake in the bush, 1-1/2 miles from the highway, our favourite hunting trail. Got an old 303 at 16. Would hit over a foot off at 100 yard. Very old army surplus rifle. But, I did learn trajectory, wind direction, and how to aim. Bought a 308 at eighteen. Got my first moose, guiding American hunters to another, larger lake. Learned to skin from an uncle. The hunters would only take a few steaks and the rack. Gave me the rest. Can’t imagine having this freedom now, in this day and age. My firearms all burnt during a house fire in ‘72. I never replaced them.
Canada needs to have enshrined in the charter the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It’s unconscionable to me that politicians believe they have the power to restrict my right to self protection.

I wish the legal weight of the FRT had a straight-forward answer. I had gotten my ATRS Modern Sporter confiscated by the police and now they want to hit me with possesion of a prohibited weapon charge. It's ridiculous. This happened 3 months ago with no new updates.

What Canada needs is Simplified Classification System implemented at federal level as soon as conservatives get in. Next is changing firearms act so that it is determined by each province what works best for them.

One of the biggest issues that I see here in Alberta is the lack of ranges and firearms clubs. Where I live, I would need to travel 90 klicks to join a club.
A surprising philosophy from someone whose primary job is to enforce federal gun laws. Dr. Bryant is surprisingly pro-gun. That said, I'm glad that here in the US we have a 2nd Amendment that doesn't require having a position like hers to begin with.
You better not take it for granted and stand up for your rights! If the USA falls we will never get our rights in Canada. We need USA to be the shining example of a free people.
@loganwhite3904 I didn’t get the sense that she personally felt open carry was radical, rather the concept of open carry is a radical thought for many.
As an American, listening to Canadians talk about guns, “rights” (that are actually privileges that can be snatched away), lack of strong property rights, “that people must take responsibility for how society is” (code for, if someone abuses their rights then everybody loses theirs - like a class of second graders where one kid is caught chewing gum so everyone looses recess) as well as what else I know about Canadians as being “subjects” to the crown and never having pulled themselves out from under the boot of an authoritarian type government and only recently in terms of world history have you even gained some sort of democracy (not a Constitutional Republic) with all the flaws of democracies (mob rule, few individual liberties, etc)…My Point - watching Canadians talk about their issues is like watching what America would have been if we never gained our independence OR if we were living in some “alternate” reality timeline like a sci-fi movie where our constitution/bill of rights was never ratified or we lost the war of independence. It’s creepy, to say the least. One more thought, “Constitutional Monarchy”? An oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one.
Guns are tools. If you want to be violent.....there are any number of ways to do that without guns. Criminals will always get guns....because they are always let out of prison.
Excellent interview. Sadly, here in Ontario there has been a more adversarial relationship with our CFO. We've had some that were out-and-out hostile to gun owners and harsh and draconian in their application of the law. My kudos to Dr. Bryant and to you.

Bowhunting this fall Ive been charged 3 times by black bears. The bear population has increased in my area ridiculously I carry bear spray but it doesn't give me comfort or the confidence in dealing with bears that a side arm would.
Anyone in the world can get a PAL, not just Canadians. Provided they meet the age requirements, pass the background checks and reference checks and successfully complete their safety training they can be issued a PAL.
I need you to have an hour or so to talk to a LIberal or anyone against Firearms in every way to see how that conversation goes and see if you change their mind in any way .

One problem I find is ... I have a Prohibited license and then the government just create a new category with new restrictions, and makes me (a legal gun owner) a criminal.
Hunted all my life, fished commercially, served in the Canadian military, as a royal canadiac horse artillery lance bombadier, ( i am denises spouse), and i still to this day must take a fireams saftey course? Give me a break!
Alberta CFO took my PAL instructor certification , when they lost my Prohibited (12/6) pal renewal. Made me turn in my pistols under threat of prosecution if i didn’t. No Judge no jury , no crime committed. Just because they say so . Was also told by the CFO my property will mostly likely be destroyed, without compensation . Again no Judge no jury no crime committed. I have no criminal record and I am a veteran of the Canadian armed forces.
Get a lawyer asap and take it to court. Some of these things have a period where if you don’t take it up legally in time you lose your chance. Contact Ian Runkle for starters, if not himself he will be able to point you to reputable lawyers who have experience with firearms law.
@ like I said I am a vet that lives on disability and cant afford a lawyer. The average person cant afford a lawyer and they know it . I served my country and to be treated like this is a slap in the face.
@@sansremoro3724 I’m sorry to hear that. I completely agree with you. Thank you for your service. Canadians still appreciate you even if our government doesn’t. It might be worth phoning and asking around, maybe just maybe there’s someone out there willing to lend a helping hand at a big discount if not free. You might even consider self representing if someone can point you the right way. I know being disabled and all wouldn’t help you and the time involved/court fees may be too much but it’s worth checking into at least. Wish you nothing but the best, it’s a tragedy what this country has come to.
I would like some feed back from you on this topic. I am a member of a fish and game club in BC. I have been in the military in the US and have dual citizenship with US and Canada. I have met many police officers in many different positions. The general rule of thumb is that police have to qualify with their firearms once per year. (I believe that is setting the stage to Fail. That means someone will get hurt because of Non Practice. Practice makes for a more confident person behind the gun. Confidence leads to a better(detachment) and a better working place, safer working place, and one other thing. All bodies, will get home at night (unscathed). You can't keep saying it was an Accident, that so & so, stood there while someone shot them. Shit happens, but stupidity runs rampant. No Practice, means no skills, means dead people. It is a much safer place when everyone is on the same page. That is training, training, training. Even one a month is better then once a year.
Cpnceal and carry will stop alot of crime .. criminals dpnt know that your carrying to defend yourself .. in todays society they dont care because they know with almpst 100% certainty we are not carrying a weapon
I am 70 years old and grew up and worked in confrontational environments my entire life. Never, ever, once did I find myself in need of a firearm to resolve any issues or confrontational situations. Firearms are an absolute last resort that the majority of people will.not have a need for ever. I am totally for less-restricted firearm laws and rules for law abiding citizens to replace the current overbearing restrictions. Conceal carry is not the answer. Conceal carry is for people who like to think that there is a criminal with an AK around every corner. There isn't. The bigger danger to me is the thought of easily offended people walking around waiting to be offended with a pistol in their waistband. There are people like that everywhere but they are not a lethal physical danger to your average normal citizen because they are scared little people who have a chip on their shoulders but no courage to deal with it. Give them a conceal carry firearm and they will think that they have a right to use it to avenge minor indiscretions. There is no need. Not in Canada.
To the "why do you need..." question, my answer is, in a free society my needs are not subject to your approval. What we need put in place is legislation that does not allow any bans at all. I would be OK with different levels of licensing, but no bans on any firearms at all. None.
Besides standing up for your firearm rights..you Canadians are going to have to sort out your primer and powder supply issues just like us in the States. This is where the covert effort is being strongly pushed now with Vista bring sold off to the Czech group. That's why i reload my primers now...
Many times the reason why one out of two similar firearms is prohibited is because it shares compatibility with another prohibited platform or interchangeable parts with a pistol. May be too easy to convert to full auto.

Repeal and simplify classifications: •A handgun is a handgun is a handgun A•Remove Prohibited Class handgun status, all handguns considered Restricted. No need to re-register, the legal understanding is if the registration lists HG or Handgun the Registered classification applies universally. •Remove Grandfathering since it legislates delayed confiscation with the onus on the owner or their heirs. •A rifle is a rifle is a rifle, A shotgun is a shotgun is a shotgun, notwithstanding (regardless) the means of operation. •Long arms are defined as having a minimum overall length of 26 inches or 660 mm notwithstanding (regardless) of barrel length. •Magazine capacities shall only pertain to rifles and shotguns while in the act of legal hunting of a species for which there is a defined hunting season. Please add changes you’d like to see.
How about putting people with illegal firearms, in jail ? Or People who get caught in violent crime,how about stronger border & smugglers convictions,like life ! How about leaving legal licensed, responsible gun owners out of it ??
Just make all semi-auto firearms non prohibited or restricted and get rid of magazine restrictions. Allow full auto as a restricted option. No barrel length laws either. It's just sensible.

I hope the firearms community can organize some range days for our CPC MPs where companies currently manufacturing suppressors in Canada for police & military can demonstrate how damn loud a gun still is with one on. It’s a huge sales opportunity for current makers and possible new businesses popping up to manufacture their own ideas and designs. The sales pitch is in line with PPE and/or prevention of of injury to users of guns and bystanders. The public must be educated that Hollywood has been sucking everyone in for a 100 years. The extra hearing protection and recoil reduction aids in teaching new shooters. England mandates them for most rural locations for God’s sake. England!
I have grown up with firearms from a very young age. I was taught Safety first, (always). I was also in the military in the US as a medic, (which I carried in the field).I am also a gunsmith. What I do not agree with is that The People that took certain firearms that ARE Not military type on a list to get rid of. That is really ignorant. Like a Ruger Mini 14. Why, Why ,Why. I am a member of Fish & Game club for a long time, and we make Safety First Always. It puts the RCMP in a pickle, as well as the public.
I'd say the current CFO is a gem for sure, but, is also between a rock and a hrd place in the job. I doubt she is all that popular in the beauracy in Ottawa, even if some of the folk there agree with her, they're pretty much muzzled.
Just thought of something else, Have you ever gone into a Canadaian Tire store walk into the hunting section to get a hunting knife? There all under lock and key . I had it explained to me by a person working there it was for saftey reasons, so being the asshole that I am at times I said Hm then I began to ask him way then when you walk through the kitchen section butcher knifes and other kinds of knifes were just laying out in the open. He looked at me funny didnt say another word and walked away.
Laws need to be enacted across canada, like Coneal Carry, Stand Your Ground Conceal Carry Permits need to be issued to canadian born people, now that a Declaration Of War has been declared against Canadians, by a Hamas support protest group Stand Your Ground needs to be enacted immediately, so canadian people can utilize Stand Your Ground, so they can protect themselves from Hamas terrorists, as well as Tren De Aragua who are now in canada
You reference that only a “handful of people” as having had need for gun ownership for defense of life BUT then your government will turn the entire citizenry on its head, take their guns, deny them protection over “just a handful of people” being harmed by guns. This is an example of “playing tennis without the net”. You simply can’t logically have it both ways.

This whole gun controversy will never be resolved unless the main catagories of firearm sectors are addressed seperately one at a time starting with what should be the easiest with should be hunting firearms. Then split that into rifles and shotguns and deal with each seperately. The whole conversation can be derailed in 2 seconds by introducing the "whatabouts" ,,, whatabout a AR15 for deer hunting?,,, whatabout a 50 round magazine for a ? (whatever). Those distractions have to come later when that category gets its turn otherwise its just a cluster flock which benefits the anti-gun lobby. Thats what they want because the confusion and controversy helps them. That being said it would be very difficult to get the government to agree to such a process because it might result in some common sense conclusions. Politically they have to avoid an honest discussion on firearms.
People who have experienced extreme socialism, like myself, are usually the strongest opponents of these leftist ideas. This isn't meant as a brag. We've seen how the sausage is made and we want nothing to do with it. Ask most any eastern European that lives in Canada. It's always these city-dwelling government dependent usually younger liberals who seem enamored by the idea of being taken care of and are so far removed from the reality of basic survival that are the most content to watch as their rights get stripped away little by little. Giving up your rights to the government makes nothing better, it breeds corruption (as we've all watched unfold over the last 10 years) and indifference to people's struggles. I have my own solution. Acquire the tools you think best. Don't talk about the tools you have. Protect yourself from thieves who would try to take your tools from you.
I'm as pro-gun as it gets, so don't accuse me of being anti-gun. That said, here are some stats according to the national park services of the U.S. and Canada: bear spray proved 97% effective, whereas firearms only proved 56% effective. Included in that 56% are dangerous animals shot by actual professionals (think bear guides in Alaska). Here's the reality if you're an Average Joe without bear spray: You're likely toast! A faceful of bear spray can take all the fight out of a sow grizzly if done properly, but unless your name is Peter Hathaway Capstick, you have far less chance of stopping a charging animal with a firearm. In this day and age, professional hunting guides in Africa are very expensively trained in virtual reality simulators during their schooling, and are put through a wide variety of highly realistic scenarios. This is what gives them the reflexes and muscle memory that even the best and brightest of amateurs lack. Plus there's the psychology pertaining to shooting under pressure. When a hunter gets charged by a Cape buffalo, it's the most terrifying experience of his life. When a _professional_ hunter gets charged by a Cape buffalo, it's just another Monday morning. The pros handle it so well because they have gotten psychologically numb to the experience. Let me put it another way: When a new-to-the-game pickup artist first starts sleeping with very attractive women, he generally doesn't last any longer than a minute. As these women, who are generally far more attractive than average become a regular part of his life, he gets 'numb' psychologically. He then wakes up one morning and realizes that attracting and sleeping with beautiful women isn't a huge deal. He's in a sense, 'acclimatized'.

As an American firearms instructor and 2nd Amendment advocate, this is an extremely enlightening and informative conversation. Americans often take for granted the explicit prohibition of government infringement on our right to keep and bear arms afforded to us via the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution. Hearing discussions about the implications of gun rights legislation on other rights is exactly why gun rights advocates in the U.S. fight so vehemently against new and existing legislation.
Yet I still cannot legally carry a firearm in my state despite the 2A and the Bruen decision. This is why we should NEVER have started down the road toward firearm control, once government starts infringing rights it is nearly impossible to gain the free exercise of them back. Even in the most "hands off" state it is still not as free as it was before we embarked on the path of firearms controls.
@@Anon54387 There are still a couple states that have not felt the full benefit of the Bruen decision because those states passed what I call "tantrum laws" to immediately burden the precedent set by the decision, like New York did with the Concealed Carry Improvement Act which was passed just 8 days after the Bruen decision. Litigation takes time but hang in there. The dominoes are falling left and right under the Bruen standard.

We don't need more laws.👎 We don't have enough resources to police the laws we DO have which is why we have issues. The politician create policies that pander to those with fears and phobias, it has nothing to do with actually public safety but PERCEIVED safety, hence the legal gun owners being scapegoats...

The Right to Keep and Bear arms dates back to 1689 under British Common law. This was the origin of America's 2nd amendment. Canada operated under British Common Law until 1982. We had this Right until Trudeau Sr. created the Charter of Right and Freedoms and decided not to list it explicitly.

Agreed, his father set the stage, and I believe that it was Chretien who brought in the current Firearms Act. It is written in such a way to allow the banning of any firearm they please. This Act needs to be abolished, and replaced by something that makes sense.

Here in Ontario the federal police (RCMP) is the CFO. This explains it in a nutshell. Police who are not lawmakers continue to make regulations not law but they are to be followed like law. It’s a very bias and tyrannical way to control firearm owners. I’ve written the Ontario premier Doug Ford and asked him to help implement a CFO such as Alberta’s but he obviously don’t care about the Poor bias system we are under here in Ontario. Allot of firearm owners want to move to AB especially with the new AB constitution with respect to firearm ownership. Thanks to Dr Bryant for leading the way ,you are very well admired by legal firearm owners.

Gun laws are rarely based on safety, they are based on Control. The only item that comes to mind in regard to safety, is the requirement to have a Canadian Firearms Safety course in order to possess a firearm. Every other law, mandate, OIC is purely about control.

I love Dr. Bryant's take on rights. I agree completely. Governments DO NOT give us rights. Our rights are innate and governments can recognize and protect those rights or violate them. They can neither grant, nor take them away.
ATCs for defense of life should not be as difficult to get as it is now (which is pathetically difficult), we are our own first responders

If Dr. Bryant is reading this, could you please reconsider the requirement that ATC holders have to retake the Proof Of Proficiency test every two years? I realize you want to be assured of proficiency but, as someone who has held an ATC for a number of years, I have already taken the POP four times now and... well, it's very expensive. Perhaps you could set a point where you say, "Okay, we know this person is able to shoot well now. No need for testing him/her again and again every 2 years." As far as I know, some other provinces don't require POP retests once it is passed the first time, so Alberta appears more restrictive about this requirement (perhaps a left-over of the previous CFO). Thanks for sitting for this interview.
I disagree. I'm a fan of drastically lowering the price, but any ATC holder really needs to be the best of the best. I would like to see a wide variety of realistic training scenarios as well. If you hit a bystander in the hotel lobby or the Starbucks across the street, it will be very hard to live with. You better believe it!

This is not the U.S. and it's not for people having run-and-gun battles in the streets. I suggest you acquaint yourself with the subject first before shelling out irrelevant advice.
@@TheWaytoNativeChronicles If you need an ATC (I'm assuming you mean concealed rather than wilderness) it's likely because you feel you are in danger of being targeted by one or more assholes. The problem is that you will have no way of knowing when or where you will be when they show up. Whether you hold an ATC or not, you still need eyes on the back of your head in downtown Vancouver. It's a Hellhole!
But never mind all that. Let's say you run a jewelry store. Yes, jewelry stores get robbed, sometimes in broad daylight. Your ATC may come in handy in this situation, but if this (a broad daylight robbery) be the case, you will *DEFINITELY* need to watch your fire!
I once did some research on police blue-on-blue accidents, and found that most of them occurred outside of buildings, especially (but not exclusively) at night. Bit of a tangent, but interesting nevertheless.
But forget all that. Let's say you want to renew your ATC so that you can be the hero who stops a mass shooter. If this sounds like you, awesome! This country could use a few Eli Dickens* of her own. Again, you will need to watch your fire! Also, you will have to worry about being mistaken for the mass shooter by the cops when they finally show up. This has happened before. No shit.
Of course, if you _do_ mean wilderness carry, forget everything I said, and don't bother reading my footnote, as it's irrelevant to your situation.
*Note: While I believe most of Eli's story, I strongly suspect he did exaggerate on at least one point: the distance. I've seen everybody from Rick Igercich to Brandon Herrera to Kyle Rittenhouse, and everybody in between try and duplicate it. To my recollection, no one has actually nailed it perfectly.

I agree completely. Licensing and registration aside, the idea of the ATT for restricted firearms is completely ridiculous. I also agree that it should legal for restricted firearms to be carried and used anywhere that it is now legal to carry and use unrestricted firearms. I also feel that no long gun, at all, should be restricted. The restrictions should, if anything, only apply to the licensing and registration, but not the use, of handguns. The firearms act needs to be tossed out, and all firearms need to be classified as unrestricted by default, and only those firearms which fit a very narrow set of criteria should be restricted, or prohibited. The word "variant" needs to be scrapped, and could easily be scrapped if firearms were classified by objective criteria rather than by name.

Or that a 100 round 17 hmr magazine is less lethal than 10 rounds in semi auto carbine. The laws don't seem to be based in evidence. The police say gun control isn't working to stop gun crime. The public knows these crimes are being committed by criminals with illegal guns. Even the nova Scotia guy had illegal weapons. The chances of a person who is reasonable enough to go the legal route in acquisition probably isn't going to be shooting illegally or dangerously. Even if a gun is used in a crime that PERSON chose to commit a crime not a gun. In a perfect world noone has guns sure np. We don't live in a perfect world.
@@JakeFresno Licensed gun owners commit fewer crimes than off duty police officers. The best way to make a handgun safe is to sell it to a licensed firearms owner. I am fine with reasonable licensing but the evidence is clear that banning has no effect on crime, none.

Canadians need to put some effort into keeping our rights and freedoms as defined in the Charter.

I’m 78, grew up in the country. Granpa gave me a 22 when I was 10. My friend had a BB gun. We used to hunt for rabbits and partridge. We learn how to carry a rifle, only aim at what you’re going to shoot. There was a small lake in the bush, 1-1/2 miles from the highway, our favourite hunting trail. Got an old 303 at 16. Would hit over a foot off at 100 yard. Very old army surplus rifle. But, I did learn trajectory, wind direction, and how to aim. Bought a 308 at eighteen. Got my first moose, guiding American hunters to another, larger lake. Learned to skin from an uncle. The hunters would only take a few steaks and the rack. Gave me the rest. Can’t imagine having this freedom now, in this day and age. My firearms all burnt during a house fire in ‘72. I never replaced them.
Canada needs to have enshrined in the charter the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It’s unconscionable to me that politicians believe they have the power to restrict my right to self protection.

I wish the legal weight of the FRT had a straight-forward answer. I had gotten my ATRS Modern Sporter confiscated by the police and now they want to hit me with possesion of a prohibited weapon charge. It's ridiculous. This happened 3 months ago with no new updates.
FRT’s have no legal weight. That was the testimony of the RCMP CFP expert Murray Smith during the recent prohibition court challenge.

A surprising philosophy from someone whose primary job is to enforce federal gun laws. Dr. Bryant is surprisingly pro-gun. That said, I'm glad that here in the US we have a 2nd Amendment that doesn't require having a position like hers to begin with.

As an American, listening to Canadians talk about guns, “rights” (that are actually privileges that can be snatched away), lack of strong property rights, “that people must take responsibility for how society is” (code for, if someone abuses their rights then everybody loses theirs - like a class of second graders where one kid is caught chewing gum so everyone looses recess) as well as what else I know about Canadians as being “subjects” to the crown and never having pulled themselves out from under the boot of an authoritarian type government and only recently in terms of world history have you even gained some sort of democracy (not a Constitutional Republic) with all the flaws of democracies (mob rule, few individual liberties, etc)…My Point - watching Canadians talk about their issues is like watching what America would have been if we never gained our independence OR if we were living in some “alternate” reality timeline like a sci-fi movie where our constitution/bill of rights was never ratified or we lost the war of independence. It’s creepy, to say the least.
One more thought, “Constitutional Monarchy”? An oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one.

Bowhunting this fall Ive been charged 3 times by black bears. The bear population has increased in my area ridiculously I carry bear spray but it doesn't give me comfort or the confidence in dealing with bears that a side arm would.
I have a question I recently took my rpall of 15 people 5 are not Canadian citizens just on a work visa how is it possible for them to get a pall
Anyone in the world can get a PAL, not just Canadians. Provided they meet the age requirements, pass the background checks and reference checks and successfully complete their safety training they can be issued a PAL.

Alberta CFO took my PAL instructor certification , when they lost my Prohibited (12/6) pal renewal. Made me turn in my pistols under threat of prosecution if i didn’t. No Judge no jury , no crime committed. Just because they say so . Was also told by the CFO my property will mostly likely be destroyed, without compensation . Again no Judge no jury no crime committed. I have no criminal record and I am a veteran of the Canadian armed forces.
Get a lawyer asap and take it to court. Some of these things have a period where if you don’t take it up legally in time you lose your chance. Contact Ian Runkle for starters, if not himself he will be able to point you to reputable lawyers who have experience with firearms law.
@ like I said I am a vet that lives on disability and cant afford a lawyer. The average person cant afford a lawyer and they know it . I served my country and to be treated like this is a slap in the face.

It might be worth phoning and asking around, maybe just maybe there’s someone out there willing to lend a helping hand at a big discount if not free. I know being disabled and all wouldn’t help you and the time involved/court fees may be too much but it’s worth checking into at least. Wish you nothing but the best, it’s a tragedy what this country has come to.

I would like some feed back from you on this topic. I am a member of a fish and game club in BC. I have been in the military in the US and have dual citizenship with US and Canada. I have met many police officers in many different positions. The general rule of thumb is that police have to qualify with their firearms once per year. (I believe that is setting the stage to Fail. That means someone will get hurt because of Non Practice. Practice makes for a more confident person behind the gun. Confidence leads to a better(detachment) and a better working place, safer working place, and one other thing. All bodies, will get home at night (unscathed). You can't keep saying it was an Accident, that so & so, stood there while someone shot them.
Shit happens, but stupidity runs rampant. No Practice, means no skills, means dead people. It is a much safer place when everyone is on the same page. That is training, training, training. Even one a month is better then once a year.
Cpnceal and carry will stop alot of crime .. criminals dpnt know that your carrying to defend yourself .. in todays society they dont care because they know with almpst 100% certainty we are not carrying a weapon
I am 70 years old and grew up and worked in confrontational environments my entire life.
Never, ever, once did I find myself in need of a firearm to resolve any issues or confrontational situations.
Firearms are an absolute last resort that the majority of people will.not have a need for ever.
I am totally for less-restricted firearm laws and rules for law abiding citizens to replace the current overbearing restrictions.
Conceal carry is not the answer.
Conceal carry is for people who like to think that there is a criminal with an AK around every corner. There isn't.
The bigger danger to me is the thought of easily offended people walking around waiting to be offended with a pistol in their waistband.
There are people like that everywhere but they are not a lethal physical danger to your average normal citizen because they are scared little people who have a chip on their shoulders but no courage to deal with it.
Give them a conceal carry firearm and they will think that they have a right to use it to avenge minor indiscretions.

To the "why do you need..." question, my answer is, in a free society my needs are not subject to your approval. What we need put in place is legislation that does not allow any bans at all. I would be OK with different levels of licensing, but no bans on any firearms at all. None.

Repeal and simplify classifications:
•A handgun is a handgun is a handgun
A•Remove Prohibited Class handgun status, all handguns considered Restricted. No need to re-register, the legal understanding is if the registration lists HG or Handgun the Registered classification applies universally.
•Remove Grandfathering since it legislates delayed confiscation with the onus on the owner or their heirs.
•A rifle is a rifle is a rifle, A shotgun is a shotgun is a shotgun, notwithstanding (regardless) the means of operation.
•Long arms are defined as having a minimum overall length of 26 inches or 660 mm notwithstanding (regardless) of barrel length.
•Magazine capacities shall only pertain to rifles and shotguns while in the act of legal hunting of a species for which there is a defined hunting season.
Please add changes you’d like to see.

Just make all semi-auto firearms non prohibited or restricted and get rid of magazine restrictions. Allow full auto as a restricted option. No barrel length laws either. It's just sensible.

I hope the firearms community can organize some range days for our CPC MPs where companies currently manufacturing suppressors in Canada for police & military can demonstrate how damn loud a gun still is with one on. It’s a huge sales opportunity for current makers and possible new businesses popping up to manufacture their own ideas and designs.
The sales pitch is in line with PPE and/or prevention of of injury to users of guns and bystanders. The public must be educated that Hollywood has been sucking everyone in for a 100 years. I have grown up with firearms from a very young age. I was taught Safety first, (always). I was also in the military in the US as a medic, (which I carried in the field).I am also a gunsmith. What I do not agree with is that The People that took certain firearms that ARE Not military type on a list to get rid of. That is really ignorant. Like a Ruger Mini 14. Why, Why ,Why. I am a member of Fish & Game club for a long time, and we make Safety First Always. It puts the RCMP in a pickle, as well as the public.
I'd say the current CFO is a gem for sure, but, is also between a rock and a hrd place in the job. I doubt she is all that popular in the beauracy in Ottawa, even if some of the folk there agree with her, they're pretty much muzzled.

This whole gun controversy will never be resolved unless the main catagories of firearm sectors are addressed seperately one at a time starting with what should be the easiest with should be hunting firearms.
Then split that into rifles and shotguns and deal with each seperately.
The whole conversation can be derailed in 2 seconds by introducing the "whatabouts" ,,, whatabout a AR15 for deer hunting?,,, whatabout a 50 round magazine for a ? (whatever).
Those distractions have to come later when that category gets its turn otherwise its just a cluster flock which benefits the anti-gun lobby. Thats what they want because the confusion and controversy helps them.
That being said it would be very difficult to get the government to agree to such a process because it might result in some common sense conclusions. Politically they have to avoid an honest discussion on firearms.

People who have experienced extreme socialism, like myself, are usually the strongest opponents of these leftist ideas. This isn't meant as a brag. We've seen how the sausage is made and we want nothing to do with it. Ask most any eastern European that lives in Canada. It's always these city-dwelling government dependent usually younger liberals who seem enamored by the idea of being taken care of and are so far removed from the reality of basic survival that are the most content to watch as their rights get stripped away little by little. Giving up your rights to the government makes nothing better, it breeds corruption (as we've all watched unfold over the last 10 years) and indifference to people's struggles. Sadly this isn't the first time, nor will it be the last this type of thinking takes hold.
