After he quit journey, he fell in love and she had cancer and died after they were together a year. He just started singing again, she made him promise he would sing again if something happened to her
This is the only Journey song nominated for a Grammy. They broke up in 1987 and got back together in 1995. Steve Perry was in a lot of pain filming this and they had to ice his hip in between shooting. He needed a hip replacement but was not wanting surgery. The band, needing to tour to support this album, replaced Steve Perry.
"Professor of Rock" really is great! He gives a lot of information about the history of songs, bands etc. Sometimes, he even has interviews with the band members. Bonus, he doesn't play the songs, so you can still do first reactions. No, I am not a paid promoter. Lol 😂😅😂😅
I still get goosebumps after all these years and that ladies and gentlemen is why we call Steve the voice! All of Journey and Steve’s solo music is off the chain!😎 I am a Perry girl since the beginning 1978 and I will die a Perry girl! 😎✌🏻
I am 70 years old and am for grateful to have grown up in the 50s 60s 70s and 80s with the best music ever ..... Steve Perry and Tom Jones have the GREATEST SET OF PIPES EVER
Heard a DJ in the 80s say that Steve Perry's voice could power a small city. he is called the voice for a reason. Let's not forget about the great Neal Schon on lead guitar. Neal dropped out of school at 15, and if I'm not mistaken he was invited to play with Eric Clapton but he didn't want to go to London and joined Santana instead. How do you spend 4 years the legend that is Carlos Santana and not become great?
Please please please “Separate ways” for something faster and “Open arms” for ballad. And “Oh Sheri”I LOVE journey! Steve Perry has the hands down BEST male voice ever!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
This song is like no other...& with the right stereo system it's mind blowing amazing when the orchestra kicks in!!!...Journey/Steve Perry fan for life!!!
Journey is my all time band. Steve Perry is the Voice! Thank you for sharing your review. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You Rock. I love watching your videos and your reactions.✌️
Show your girls how a woman is supposed to be treated through the way you love and respect their mother. Your girls will then never settle for less than. I know first hand. A father is perhaps the most important person in a child's life, he shows them how it's done.
From a child of the 80s calling in to the radio station to request a love song for the person you loved or was crushing on was the best way to let them know
When I was a teen a good friend of mine called the local radio station and pretended to be me and requested tina turner " you're simply the best" to a guy I liked lol. I could've strangled her, I was so embarrassed lol.
If you like this one, watch the live version of “Wheel In The Sky” and watch Steve Perry hit some unbelievable notes when the guitarist, Neal Schon is doing his guitar solo. It truly is shockingly amazing!!! Another one, “Foolish Heart” is like the old style R&B. Just a suggestion! I showed for Journey concerts too until The Voice left the band. Stay on this Journey and your reactions and memberships will go roof!!!
The Professor of Rock is terrific. He gets a lot of praise from his interviewees because he's so knowledgeable and well-prepared, not to mention respectful and a true music fan.
U should check out Oh Sherrie, and Foolish Heart! Those are songs he did on his own! Someone else u should check out is Peter Cetera! He was the lead singer for Chicago, but has amazing solo music as well! Glory of love, Restless heart, Even a fool can see, & The next time I fall are a few of my favorites!
He is "The Voice" for a reason! Faithfully is another song you should listen to. Mother, Father is amazing! He is the one hitting the high notes towards the end of the song. Brilliant! I saw your reaction video to Mother, Father.
You can't go wrong with Journey. You should watch the live in Houston concert. The whole thing. Just to get an idea of just how good they were. At the least you should do mother father from that show. Incredible
Slow dancing to old Journey songs at the dance in the high school cafeteria after the football game on Friday nights with your first love - that voice brings back amazing memories.
Thank you so much for your great reaction video to this beautiful Journey lovesong. I love Journey and Steve Perry with all my heart. Not only does he have a beautiful voice, but he sings from his heart with passion and feeling. A few other Journey song/videos I'd love to hear you react to are "Mother, Father", "Open Arms," "Separate Ways," as well as "Foolish Heart," "Oh, Sherrie" and "Missing You"" from Steve Perry's solo work. You would love them!
Whenever I watch this video the song gets stuck in my head for at least two weeks. It is truly amazing. Steve Perry, one of the greatest voices of ALL TIME!!
song came out in 96. I married in 97. This was selected as our "First Dance". Such a beautiful song and moment. Still together. we beat the odds i guess. We just celebrated our 27th anniversary last weekend.
Nothing can be added about Steve's voice that hasn't been said already. But I will say that the lyrics of this song REALLY hit me deep. I was widowed in 2006, but found love again in 2009. We've been together ever since, and will reach 13 years married this year. There is one thing to add about Steve in this video, though.... THAT F'ING HAIR! OMG! I want my hair to get that long!
Yeah this is what we spent High School with and Steve Perry had the voice of a Generation and there are still few who can compare with him. This was one of his last songs with Journey. Journey created the Power Love Rock Ballad, literally. This song is so beautiful, it's on all my playlists. And yes I have all the Journey albums in my collection. Glad you've gotten to know Steve Perry.
I love this video because it shows the full magnitude of talent and collaboration it took to create and record music...real music... back then. My highly Christian mom actually loved and watched MTV with her favorites being Neil Diamond (she and her nurse co-workers attended his concerts every year) and, believe it or not, Billie Idol.
I grew up in the late 70’s and 80’s. I love Journey. I saw them in concert in 1983. Brian Adams opened for them, just an incredible show. I’m a big romantic at heart, I met my husband when I was 20 years old, married at 21. We’re still married 35 years later, still in love. Still listening to Journey. Enjoy the ride, love your people with everything you have!! ❤️
'When you love a woman' came from the last Journey album to feature vocalist Steve Perry, their iconic singer, in 1996 from the album 'Trial by Fire'... I believe it won a Grammy Award. Journey had disappeared by 1987 after vocalist Steve Perry privately told the band that he was taking a break from touring... Their 1986 album 'Raised on Radio' was a platinum+ hit but they stopped promoting it the following year. Steve Perry released solo records afterwards... Neal Schon (guitar) and Jonathan Cain (keys/ piano) formed the band Bad English - they released 2 albums... Ex-Journey members Ross Valory (bass) and Greg Rolie (keys/ piano) released 1 album as The Storm in 1991. In 1995, Steve Perry contacted the members of Journey and was ready to work on a new album... Perry, Schon and Cain reunited w/ Ross Valory (bass) and Steve Smith (drums) to record 'Trial by Fire'... It became a platinum hit in 1996. Journey were planning a comeback tour in 1997 but a serious hip injury and diagnosis on Steve Perry put those touring plans on hold indefinitely... Perry still had not had the recommended surgery that he needed by 1998 and Schon & Cain finally got tired of waiting and told Steve Perry that they were moving on without him... Steve Augeri (vocals) was recruited in 1998, recorded 1 song for the 'Armageddon' movie soundtrack ('Remember me') and Journey were back on tour in '98 w/ Schon, Cain, Valory and Deen Castronovo on drums. That line-up recorded 2 Journey albums - 'Arrival' in 2001 and 'Generations' in 2005. Arnel Pineda (vocals) joined Journey in 2008 after the band saw him cover Journey songs in the Philippines and he is their singer today. Steve Perry disappeared from public life (He did give an interview to VH1 after 2000) ... He revealed that he had successfully recovered from a hip surgery... However, he stayed retired for decades until he made a solo album 'Traces' in 2018... Steve Perry recently announced that he has plans to release new records soon... Current Journey singer Arnel Pineda finally got to meet his idol Steve Perry in 2017 when Journey was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Isn't it wonderful that, although the albums of Journey, Boston and Kansas were never in your home, you are now experiencing the greatness and really just amazing songs that some of had the pure pleasure of growing up with!! The fact that you recognize and acknowledge talent and good music is exactly what makes me enjoy your reactions so much! Btw, Steve Perry is my favorite singer of all time and Journey my favorite band. Having said that, Boston and Kansas had killer hits. So many great songs/bands came out of the 70’s and 80's.
Keyboard player for Journey is Jonarhan Cain who came over from The Babys. You would enjoy “Isn’t It Time” and “Every Time I Think of You” by The Babys.
Go watch their Live from Houston show from '81, and it will blow your mind! Also, some TH-camrs do voice analysis on Steve Perry vocals, and it truly showcases his incredible range. Lastly, check out some of their rockers like "Lovin', Touchin', and Squeezin'," "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," "Any Way You Want it," and "Wheel in the Sky." Yes, Journey invented the power ballad, but they really ROCK, too! Just check them out for your personal enjoyment.
Steve Perry solo - "Oh Sherrie", "You Better Wait", "Foolish Heart" More Journey - "Stone In Love", "Open Arms", "Anytime", "Still They Ride" & so many more. Keep going with The Voice!!
Journey was credited with creatungbtyr power ballad based on their succes with songs like Open Arms and Faithfully in the 80s with so many Rock artists then following their lead in make rickets singing power ballads. Perry is perfection whether he's teally Rocking or singing a ballad. An emotional vocalist tgst just makes you feel his passion and who dings with such thought and conviction. He always makes the list of Best Rock Vicalists for a reason and us dubbed The Voice with good reason. If you listen to Lay ot Down you hear him effortlessly going in and out of his falsett. Wheel in the Sky and early Journey with Steve is a lot if vocal inversions. Watch Journey's high energy performance on the show Fridays and it is undeniable just how cool these cats were and are live.
Such a beautiful song! I actually like the early Journey best. I suggest "Wheel in the Sky" or "Lights". I saw Journey in concert 5 times in the 80's & the entire band rocked it every time & then there's Steve. It goes without saying that he was always exceptional!
There is NO Journey without Steve. I wouldn't pay a freakin $.01 to see them now......They are in my top 5 of all times and it's a high number......Only the Eagles are above them.
I got to see the man live 3 times and he sounded even better live than on the vinyl. First time was the incredible Infinity album, WITH AC/DC of all groups, as the opener, in 78, babe!! That's an album you need to hear!! ❤😊
If this doesn't make the heart swell, you don't have one. Steve Perry had the best pipes in the business.
So correct sir!!!!!!!❤
After he quit journey, he fell in love and she had cancer and died after they were together a year. He just started singing again, she made him promise he would sing again if something happened to her
Finally! You listened to one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded by The Voice.. Thanks for the upload!
There's no musician today that can hold a candle 🕯️ next to Steve Perry ❤️!!! There's a reason he holds the title The Voice!!!
BONO buddy
@@G4GZUS-lol. Bono? Really?😂
of course especially in the younger days of him singing....one of the best ever!!!!!@@hippiemama52
@@G4GZUS-

Nope, his voice will put out their candle. Hehe
When I'm with my wife and we here a Journey song, I look at her right in the eyes and say "Love you like a Journey song."
Oh dude that gave me a tear in my eye!
Awwwwww ❤… that’s the best!!
Steve Perry is the absolute best frontman. His delivery is impeccable. He will always have a place at the table with the greatest singers of all time.
This is the only Journey song nominated for a Grammy. They broke up in 1987 and got back together in 1995. Steve Perry was in a lot of pain filming this and they had to ice his hip in between shooting. He needed a hip replacement but was not wanting surgery. YOU WROTE WHAT I WAS GOING TO, INDEED STEVE WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN FILMING THIS,,, I SO MISS THE VOICE,
What a group hmm? And Def Leppard waiting on their drummer to learn to play with 1 arm after recovery like....👀
Steve's hair was as beautiful as his voice.
Amen to that!
He has always had the best hair. And his voice is on another level.
This was Journey's comeback hit the first time they ever got back together.
If you like this song, you will LOVE "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever". It's one of Journey's best.
I feel so sorry for the younger generation who don’t know what GREAT MUSIC IS!
Wheel in the Sky... Lovin Touchin Squeezin... You must start the journey from the beginning.
Wheel in the Sky - YES. Also, Lights.
Agree! Those 2 songs I requested as well...they are the best! They were my juke box bar selections yrs ago...
Steve had a solo album called Street Talk you should check out too.
He also sang the song “I Stand Alone” for the movie Hercules.
It is phenomenal!! 👍🏼♥️
No one comes close to Steve, forever yours, Faithfully 🥰

Go look up Paul Carruk, go see how much of a Hall of Fame performer he is
The episode you should look at is “Vocal Giant Scored Big Hits in the 70s, 80s and 90”
I've learned some things off of Proffesor of rock show...he's good! I do know alot myself from 50 yrs of being a fan of music!
Gotta do "Mother Father" from there Live Houston concert in 81.....greatest vocals ever recorded....and i'm pretty damn sinical.
Absolutely an amazing performance
It’s a MUST react ✨

They were nominated for a Grammy for this song.
The only grammy they were nominated for, which is a crime.
Steve Perry's tone is just so luscious and beautiful...and tender. Unbelievable.

Can't go wrong with any of their songs, but this is near the top of my favorites. He's not called "THE VOICE" for nothing. He's just AMAZING!!
I have always loved Journey. This one brings me to tears every time.
The Professor of Rock is terrific. He gets a lot of praise from his interviewees because he's so knowledgeable and well-prepared, not to mention respectful and a true music fan.

There is one thing to add about Steve in this video, though.... THAT F'ING HAIR! OMG! I want my hair to get that long!
oh yeah 100 % agree !
After this album, Steve left Journey. The hair was his last solo stage before he left music. Not many can carry off that hair.
I take it for granted some times how blessed I was to hear these songs on the radio.😊
Yeah this is what we spent High School with and Steve Perry had the voice of a Generation and there are still few who can compare with him. This was one of his last songs with Journey. I lost my husband of 52 years July, 21,2021 and this song makes me sob. Love is precious. Hold on tight to your loved one.
Steve Perry is a legend. Paired with Greg Rollie, early Journey, unbeatable vocal duo.
the Voice will always be my favorite singer
