S23U and iPhones also cost above 1 lakh. The issue is that this phone is designed for the enthusiasts only. Sony needs to improve their computational photography and the "auto" mode to sell it to mass market consumers.
I hope they'll launch a consumer phone with thin bezels, headphone jack and a good auto camera.

    • @arjunkrishna1

The problem is our mindset. The Japanese never compromise on quality. Others may provide cheaper phones, but you'll never see a Sony phone with motherboard issues. Sony phones don't come with 63 bloatware and full of ads.
Even decade old Xperia smartphones work today without an issue. And quality of components, which don't reflect in spec sheet, costs money. Simple as that.

My Sony Ericsson experience got me nostalgic. I have used the P900, P910 , Walkman and the camera series. But once the iPhone came, mobile market took a different direction and somehow Sony got left behind. This is not only in India. Globally too very few pick mark one V as it is not easy to take a pic in it like you can with a iPhone or Samsung S23U. It has too many controls and professional tools which will confuse and complicate usage experience for the average joe. But their mark series phone had heating issues and camera getting turned off while taking video etc, hope that's fixed with mark v. I would pick it if it's launched in India for sure. Not bcos I might find it fabulous, but complicated cheez to makes me happy 😂

Being a Sony fan, I do really miss their phones and wanted to try the Sony ecosystem. But Sony is acting like Toyota, even though the product is good, it's way overpriced. Sony should return to India with more budget-friendly phones, or at least between 40k to 60k range.

Their 5 V is same price as S23 and 1 V was launched at same price of S23 Ultra and much cheaper than iPhone 15 Pro Max despite giving higher base storage. It will be much more expensive if launched in India because of insane taxes as Sony don't assemble phones in India. But still it's not overpriced if competing devices are priced same or even more expensive.

While you say that it's a big miss, please also tell which category of user would you recommend this phone as a daily driver.
The software support is absolutely disappointing, and for all the manual camera options, most people want a click and shoot.
Also the fact that Sony has always priced thier phones at a premium in India it never helped thier sales.
