They aren't underestimated at all. I've owned my 1iv for nearly 2 years and it performs worse than just about all my other Sony devices in terms of what it is supposed to do. The overheating is terrible
Disagree strongly. Just switched my Sony Xperia 1 IV for a VI. Until my new VI, the former one, was my best phone ever, which includes a series of Sony devices, but also iPhone, Samsung, HTC, LG and Nokia. Overheating was a minor issue, but is now fixed in Xperia 1 VI...
I had some issues with software on my 1mkIII, but overall I'm very happy with this phone. Wasn't happy about front camera performance too but I don't use it often. Sony is really a phone for specific group of people. I'm kinda sad that they ditched 21:9 aspect ratio which makes their phones so great to hold in hand but well. They need to sell their phones in the end. Preordered 1mkVI and it's waiting for me at home. Can't wait to get it to my hands!
I used to buy Sony phones exclusively until I had 2 in a row where the build quality was shocking. Power and volume buttons failing. To be fair that was years ago. I'm interested in this phone but it's so bloody expensive

I love Sony gear, and Sony Xperia phones are criminally underrated and unknown. I do wish Sony would put more effort into marketing them, and making them available in more countries
As someone who's had this since launch I can vouch for everything you've said. It's a fantastic phone. You don't mention the battery life, which is truly the best I've had in any smartphone. If you're not an overly heavy user it'll last you two full days. I've had days where I go out at night and get home in the early morning, having used it during work, to navigate to the venue, listen to music via bluetooth on the way there and back as well as browsing social media and watching videos, and it'll still have 30% left when I get home. I have two complaints about it. One is the only really major complaint I have: and it's the fingerprint reader. It sucks. I need to reset it every month for it to keep working. Maybe bouldering doesn't help. It's location on the lock button is unpractical. Often you'll unlock it immediately after locking it so suddenly it's doing things in your pocket. Or it just refuses to unlock at all. I wish it had a fingerprint reader under the screen like a OnePlus or face unlock, which you really should expect at this price point. The other, but more minor complaint is that it has some software bugs every now and then. Especially in the camera software. Often after locking it and reopening the auto focus will refuse to work. Or it'll suddenly have comically big gaps between the numbers in some settings like ISO and shutter speed. A bit annoying, but nothing deal breaking. I love this phone tho. It's my favourite of all phones I've owned. I love its utilitarian approach to design. It's lack of a curved display. It's regression to a 1080p screen to conserve battery life (you really, really don't need a 4k screen on a phone. Pixel density on a 1080p phone like this is still more than twice as high than a 27 inch 4k display). It's pro photo capabilities. The headphone jack. The expendable storage. There's just something about for a specific type of nerd. And I am that specific type of nerd.
Why is nobody talking about the main feature of this phone? The fact that it doesn’t have a giant black hole on top of its screen for selfie camera. It’s so gorgeous and elegant looking!
Had it for a month too, the most impressive feature for me is it's battery life, first phone I have had in 10 years that really manages to get 2 full days of medium to heavy usage.. have been waiting for this for what seems like forever
Was thinking of getting this phone. It nearly ticked all my boxes but nearly every review I've seen. The camera is a let down. As someone that like to point and shoot or short notice. That's a big let down. If I'm paying this sort of money. It needs to have a top camera. I hope the next Xperia sorts this out
I'm an audiophile and love photography too. I have used Sony phones so far and was a bit apprehensive about this new one. Thank you for making this video. I hope to buy this phone soon and you answered every question I was worried about. keep up the great work!! Greetings from Romania!🤟🙂
It has up to 1.75 TB, not 1.5 (sd+built in storage) and it the 1 V had 3 camera apps not 2. Photo Pro, Video Pro and Cinematography Pro, all of which mirrored the menu systems of Sony's Alpha (A1, A7S3), Cinema Pro (FX 3,6,9) Cine Alta cameras like the Venice which can only be rented not bought, (as it costs a s much as a house). The greatest thing about these apps was by learning them you then knew how to use all of Sony's cameras right to the very top.
All the reviews I've seen on this phone is that it's camera isn't great compared to the other flagship phones. When you charge top dollar. Then it should be better especially camera is probably the most important thing about a phone
I have bought the Xperia 1 Vl recently and I am very happy with it. Great sound, great screen and camera. Software is what you need, no useless additions or gimmicks. Had a Asus ROG 6 prior to this and before that I used OP8T and 6T. But Sony offers the best quality of all concerning hardware and software. I use it mainly for listeing to music with a B&W PX7 and NuraTrue earbuds and for watching video's.
I used to be a Sony user… 10 years ago when they released the Xperia Z3. But they have left the US market. Let me just say that even before they left, it felt like they left. Anyway it’s nice to see they’re still not afraid to take risks and to cram features into a smartphone

Thanks for the great discussion, I am here because I have been contemplating for a while whether to switch from Mark V to VI, tempting if I can sell my old one with some good price
Xperia phones are great addons for camera gear. You can use it as external monitor, you can record your footage from your primary camera directly to the phone storage, you can use it as an audio recorder... It is also HiRes audio capable. Also it is great for gaming, because you can bypass the battery. Nobody talks about the real unique features of these phones. Shutter button, AUX, sd card tray and notchless design are the cherry on top. Also it is worth to mention the creator mode, because you can see the colors like the creator created them. Also good for creating own stuff. ;)
Reminders and Notes on my iPhone are so integral to my workflow that moving to a Sony would require a big data migration (for Notes). Also, many apps are iOS only e.g when I was in Japan recently, their transit app is only available for iOS.
Saving money right now. Hope to buy it as soon as possible. It just enter Malaysia 's market a few days ago. However, it is still long way for me, coz, it is really expensive.
I was a HTC Fanboy for a long time, but they are gone. Staying aside of the crowd, I put an eye on Sony. If everything goes well, I'll buy me one in Autumn. O and the quick review is perfect, no gobbledegook, thanks.
Absolutely loving my 1 mark 6 after switching from the Samsung S24 Ultra! The battery life is fantastic, probably no other phone has given me such battery life 💪🏻
How's the selfie camera quality? Everyone has been going gaga over the back camera but not much about selfie camera. Is it bad? How's its quality? I wanted to know about a dual recording. Is it available?
Mine is.. ok. It's resprung itself several times and the camera has a lot to be desired but I do love the phone overall. I really wish the post processing was a lot better, a lot of the photos looks bad. Great battery, great screen however isn't worth the money.
I wanted to buy this due to the simplistic design. However it's about twice as much as an rog8pro or a xiaomi14 in the philippines. Budget wise, xiaomi14 gives me the best value for my money so went ahead with it. No regrets so far. Still would like to get this though if it gets half what it is right now.
Coming from a 6-year-old Samsung Note 9, I'm seriously considering replacing the Note 9 with the Xperia 1 VI. Then I'll only be lacking a stylus, which I will definitely miss, but not a deal breaker.
i just wish they used their best sensor on all lenses. still, a very good phone. and one of the only flagship with a headphone jack and microsd slot so that's why i went with it, the rest is just extras.
Great video as always. Like you, I love Sony phones. They're massively underrated. Will you be switching from the Galaxy S24 Ultra to the Sony Xperia 1 VI to continue your Android experiment, or going back to the iPhone?
As much as i love One UI on my S23 Ultra, the Xperia1 VI is just special. Gives me a reason to learn photography and phone bands again. The only negative i have is that therevare no Poetic type of protection vases for it. Yes i. Have a Spegan and Hard gladd protector. However , nothing beats the hard plastic of a Poetic Spartan or Revolution. Otherwise Xperia 1 VI is a 94/100 for me
Great review, love this video, new subscriber here👍 I have the s22 ultra I've had samsungs scince the stone age😂😂😂 I think I'm a sony fan now love the shutter button audio jack and sd card slot this is definitely my next phone🤞🤞🤞
I tend to keep phones for about 8 years before change them. I am currently using the wonderful Blackberry Key2. My question is this : How long will the OS be updated and remain "up to date" ?
It's an amazing phone, camera is superb. Unfortunately not all variants support Esim, which I found out after buying. Many reviews mentioned it supported Esim, whereas the EC72 doesn't support it. FYI
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT, only XQ-EC54 supports Esim Overall the XQ-EC72 is a great phone, it handles 4k video editing with ease. My only complaint is the Esim, which is one reason I hoped to use while traveling in different countries, now I need to fiddle with sim providers within each country.
Still have the stereo vibration system? Miss my XZ3, since I switched to a Samsung it doesn't have stereo sound and vibration during the beats. Think they purposely slowed it down and won't send pictures anymore. Does the video recording still have slo mo? Neat even it just does it a few seconds.
Quick question about it I have 1iii . if I start to record video I can't switch in between lenses or up or down brightness. I Had Huawei,Samsung, (and tested my friend's iPhone) they all can do those things mid recording video . Can you do It on never models ? Cracked my screen and looking for upgrade.
I dont think sony will get rid of the headphone jack as it is a big part of their brand as they sell digital audio players, 3.5mm IEMs and headphones. The only way I see them getting rid of the headphone jack on their phones is if they release a line of usb-c iems and headphones. But yeah that would seem to be negating what sony is all about. Samsung never had cd walkmans so don't have that vested interest or passion for audio and Apple is more focused on "innovation" than practicality and quality of sound.
Always wanted a sony phone, but LG took top spot for me as the best underdog phone that was better than the mainstream phones. However since LG sadly went out with a bang with the V60 (currently using it), its time for a new phone and Sony based on my research is the new LG in my eyes, underrated, yet does things that the competition doesnt, headphone jack, beast cameras with manual modes for content creators, expandable storage via SD card. Its crazy that people dont buy these phones enough. Then again LG and Sony need to do a better job marketing these amazing phones. Looking to buy the Xperia 1 V or VI after retiring my V60.
Shame Sony has decided to not go global with this phone outside EU/UK its not hard to import but the support and after care with import becomes very challenging. good review from a general perspective.
Any thoughts on using a V10 MicroSD card with it? I purchased a 1.5TB V10 card but just now noticed the camer app suggests using a V30 card for 4K and raw capture...
HI MArk, great review, I understand OIS but does your 1 vi rattle ? and if it does can you explain it to a non tech head like me, because I hate the constant rattle when I move the phone from desk to ear. Any good thoughts. PMC
Thats the optical image stabilization (OIS) as long as it is not in use it moves a bit when you shake the phone. It is also the reason why you hear a little "sound" when your camera is on.
And the battery? It's the biggest reason I'm into this phone and did not see you complement it. Is it that much better then all the other flagships or it's just marketing?
Are you a Sony Person?

Saving money right now. Hope to buy it as soon as possible. It just enter Malaysia 's market a few days ago. However, it is still long way for me, coz, it is really expensive.
I was a HTC Fanboy for a long time, but they are gone. Staying aside of the crowd, I put an eye on Sony. If everything goes well, I'll buy me one in Autumn. O and the quick review is perfect, no gobbledegook, thanks.
That was my move to Sony Xperia as well a few years back....loved my HTC and love my Xperia
Absolutely loving my 1 mark 6 after switching from the Samsung S24 Ultra! The battery life is fantastic, probably no other phone has given me such battery life 💪🏻
How about heating issue?the get warming while you Surfing in the internet watching TH-cam etc?
I was thinking I may need to push my 1iii upgrade for another year but 1vi looks like a worthy phone indeed.
How's the selfie camera quality? Everyone has been going gaga over the back camera but not much about selfie camera. Is it bad? How's its quality?
I wanted to know about a dual recording. Is it available?
Seriously considering this; cross-shopping with iPhone 16 Pro 512 GB - same exact price.
Mine is.. ok. It's resprung itself several times and the camera has a lot to be desired but I do love the phone overall. I really wish the post processing was a lot better, a lot of the photos looks bad. Great battery, great screen however isn't worth the money.
I was sold on this before but now I am completely sold 😊. Upgrading from a 1MK2
Same here
yes the jack keep the jack
I want one ❤
I wanted to buy this due to the simplistic design. However it's about twice as much as an rog8pro or a xiaomi14 in the philippines.
Budget wise, xiaomi14 gives me the best value for my money so went ahead with it. No regrets so far.
Still would like to get this though if it gets half what it is right now.
I have bought it too
Nice - enjoy!
💯 Sony fan. My 1V is doing the job so I'll wait for the VII but damn that battery and macro lens is amazing!
"Doing the job" doesn't do this fantastic phone justice
True! Perhaps, Getting the job done. A very high end job 😉
I love sony back the price
Coming from a 6-year-old Samsung Note 9, I'm seriously considering replacing the Note 9 with the Xperia 1 VI. Then I'll only be lacking a stylus, which I will definitely miss, but not a deal breaker.
Does it come with ANSWERING MACHINE FUNCTION? Thanks
Great phone but the camera sensors are a little small (main is ok) and there's still some auto features I'd still like to have improved
I'm thinking hard about buying one of these. I wish it was available on the normal market in the US.
i just wish they used their best sensor on all lenses.
still, a very good phone.
and one of the only flagship with a headphone jack and microsd slot so that's why i went with it, the rest is just extras.
Great video as always. Like you, I love Sony phones. They're massively underrated. Will you be switching from the Galaxy S24 Ultra to the Sony Xperia 1 VI to continue your Android experiment, or going back to the iPhone?
Thanks! And... wait and see.
S24 ultra with its blurred screen... man, I gave it back today after 2 days
I’m waiting for a Sony Xperia with a 3nn Chipset to leave Apple iPhone.
Thanks for the sub!
I tend to keep phones for about 8 years before change them. I am currently using the wonderful Blackberry Key2. My question is this : How long will the OS be updated and remain "up to date" ?
Ordered mine yesterday. Now £1,149 from Sony direct. Result
I love sony
It's an amazing phone, camera is superb.
Unfortunately not all variants support Esim, which I found out after buying. Many reviews mentioned it supported Esim, whereas the EC72 doesn't support it. FYI
so, does 1 vi support esim?
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT, only XQ-EC54 supports Esim
Overall the XQ-EC72 is a great phone, it handles 4k video editing with ease. My only complaint is the Esim, which is one reason I hoped to use while traveling in different countries, now I need to fiddle with sim providers within each country.
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT support, XQ-EC54 does support Esim
@@netizenplanet thanks!
Maybe i will buy Xperia mark 7
Wowwww the images look so stunning especially potrait yet well balanced and so natural colour...
in 1 ore 2 month i am going to get my hands of one xperia 1 vi :D
I have it and I love it
I dont think sony will get rid of the headphone jack as it is a big part of their brand as they sell digital audio players, 3.5mm IEMs and headphones. The only way I see them getting rid of the headphone jack on their phones is if they release a line of usb-c iems and headphones. But yeah that would seem to be negating what sony is all about. Samsung never had cd walkmans so don't have that vested interest or passion for audio and Apple is more focused on "innovation" than practicality and quality of sound.
torn between this, iphone 16 pro max or the pixel 9 pro xl
Bit too pricey for me but I quite like it.
Shame Sony has decided to not go global with this phone outside EU/UK its not hard to import but the support and after care with import becomes very challenging. good review from a general perspective.
Love mine
Ich liebe mein Sony Xperia 1 VI
What do you think about the video? I might use it as a B-camera
Any thoughts on using a V10 MicroSD card with it? I purchased a 1.5TB V10 card but just now noticed the camer app suggests using a V30 card for 4K and raw capture...
sony is the best
It is undoubtedly one of the best phones in the world. Congratulations, Sony!
Can it save photos and videos directly on sd card?
I’m tired paying companies for cloud storage…
@@rinkashi101 yes you can
Once you insert the SD card, there's an option in camera setting to choose the saving space
@@ajassimanwar thanks
HI MArk, great review, I understand OIS but does your 1 vi rattle ? and if it does can you explain it to a non tech head like me, because I hate the constant rattle when I move the phone from desk to ear. Any good thoughts. PMC
Thats the optical image stabilization (OIS) as long as it is not in use it moves a bit when you shake the phone. It is also the reason why you hear a little "sound" when your camera is on.
If the audio when recording with the front facing camera was from the built in microphone, then it is waaay too "metallic" in the resonans.
Yes very good Phone!
It’s worth it for the headphone jack. Just sorry they don’t sell their mobile phones in Chile.
What headphone do you use ?
@@NetvoTV Sony WH1000XM3. Still see no reason to upgrade.
And the battery? It's the biggest reason I'm into this phone and did not see you complement it. Is it that much better then all the other flagships or it's just marketing?
Xperia 1Vl❤🎉
Great review
Hi. I'm hesitate between the xperia 5 mark V and this one, the xperia 1 mark VI ! Which one you advise me ?
Great phone
Great review. Well done. Nice content. I’ve got the mk IV at the moment, so I might consider upgrading when I’m out of contract in August.
Thanks for the kind words!
The VI ist awesome. If you can grab it for a good Deal, GET IT
So can i install the apk of the pro app on mark 6?
Sony 👌. my very first phone, a sony J5
tech spurt makes a cameo!
Yes, since Sony Ultra
I think they should bring back pro apps! Lots of leople enjoyed using and learning them
Good but i think sony should make a flip phone and a folder phone
Do you know how to change the camera settings to not mirror the frontcamera? :)
What is the antennas like in UK please? Do you get decent phone/mobile data signal with the phone? My Xperia 1iv is a bit weak on signal strength
I'm sure it will be fine a lot of the time it's down to your network provider cutting your bandwidth not the phone itself !
@@oliverskinner8962 Nah,it's a common complain. My 1 III has the same issue
