    Although I do really want to stay in Chase's ecosystem, I think the Chase Sapphire Reserve is still too similar to the Chase Sapphire Preferred to justify an upgrade for me. The fact that you can transfer out to travel partners with the CSP for a fraction of the effective annual fee makes it hard to justify the CSR right now in my opinion. For the welcome bonus alone, I could see this card definitely being worth it, but I just wish they would make it a more competitive luxury travel card than it is. Great review John!

    Sometimes at bank branches they offer you more points. Near me, for the Sapphire Preferred, they were offering a total of 75k bonus points instead of the 60k offered online

    • @AG-mm9wn
      @AG-mm9wn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sucks. I got a Barclay card earlier this year for 50k points, then 3 months later the bonus went up to 80k. Lame

    Love the review for this card! I’m not too big on the Reserve either, however , the 80k sign up bonus is too righteous to pass up, if under 5/24 and there’s been no Sapphire bonus received in 48 months. Chase UR points are AMAZING for Hyatt but the card is average at most everything else with a high annual fee. The Preferred is the best option for most of the everyday user of Chase.

    The reason why I pick my CSR over the AMEX platinum is the $300 travel credit that can be used on any and everything travel vs the platinum’s $200 travel incidental that can only be used on one specific airline per year. I prefer the credit flexibility.

    I used to love the CSR, but 80.000 is too small when compared to the AF. All the add-on perks do not justify the AF unless you use those services. When I had the CSR, I didn't use it for anything else other than the travel protection, priority pass, dining (when it was one of the few cards with 3x back, while most cards only had 2x or 1x back at the time), and 1.5x redemption. 80k isn't an all-time high when you consider it used to be 100k and when the AF was 450.

    I currently have a 3 card set up, the Blue Cash Preferred, Chase Freedom Unlimited and the Costco Visa Card. Works pretty well and my thought behind it was I can always get the Gold Card at a later date when I see myself spending more on food when either I get a girlfriend or family, as I am single right now. So for my spending habits, it just makes sense for me to get the Gold later. I dont travel too much other than 2ish times a year at most domestically, so it doesnt make sense, but I am open to it in the future and maybe by then AMEX would have refreshed or updated the card with better perks or benefits. If not, I might look at the Capital One Venture X as my first high end card. CSR might be too much for me, i might stick with the CSP in the future

    Unsure what my next move should be. I've had a CSP for near a decade (was auto-upgraded) but never received a sign on bonus. I recently brought this up to Chase and their response was, "sorry, bonuses are for new customers only." Needless to say I was pretty upset for being penalized for loyalty. Thinking about downgrading my CSP and apply for a CSR... Or just leave Chase all together. Any advice?

It isn't all bad, either, since the client also gets something.
