    I enjoy that you tell us all the details along the way and keep me interested, not just expecting me to watch a dull empty video about slowly driving a truck through the woods like so many overlanding videos do. As a motorcyclist, going slow is just too hard to watch all by itself!! Oh yeah....I REALLY LOVE YOUR "NO" LIST,....I have the SAME philosophy!

    I love to travel this way...pick a state and drive, then look at gaia GPS for fire roads, then start random exploring...
    The best campsites seem to materialize out of nowhere and I see and make memories I could have never planned to be any better.

Up and down dry river beds looking for the last free roaming desert elephants while keeping an eye open for lions & leopards ( campings going to be interesting 🤔)

    • @markyeadon7271

      Sorry guys, no videos from me, I leave that up to the professionals. If you want to see the area search YT for Puros, Koakaland, Palmwag, Sesfontein or Brandberg. The whole of Namibia has about 2.5 million residents and this is the least populated area of the country. My main aim is to see the desert elephants and rhino that live in the dry river beds. I would highly recommend, to anyone who has the time, flying to Windhoek and renting a 4x4 for a few months and travelling Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe & South Africa.

    Another very enjoyable video. I love your philosophy. Nice rigs all round. I have a 2020 like Sam's truck but a Sport. I wanted an Off-Road for the MTS, CC, and E-Locker. Unfortunately Toyota Canada doesn't sell them here. I'm in BC and great to hear you were able to do some exploring here. I had a Brand new 1992 Toyota Truck with the Extra-Cab V6 4X4 5spd. My Wife and I explored everywhere with that truck before kids. Owned for 14 enjoyable years. Towed a small 12' Travel trailer and even did the Alaska Highway! If you ever get back to BC I'd recommend the seasonal Hurley Pass north of Whistler to Goldbridge & Bralorne. Also, the loop around Harrison lake, just to name a few.

    Wow. Thanks! Great points and great video. Being from Bend I found myself trying to figure out the area you were in. ;-). I am a lowly Land Cruiser guy so a bit more careful when it comes to pinstripes! And not knowing people who go out I am often on my own. On top of that I don't have a winch installed. So I am a bit more cautious. But I really like your 5 "No's". Maybe I will run into you on the trailer sometime! If you see a white Land Cruiser HE (bronze wheels) with an aftermarket roof rack and MaxTrax on top plus other stuff be sure to say "Hi". Oh, and I would love to know where one of you three picked up that "half width" cargo basket on your roof rack. I am looking for something like to put on my roof rack when needed.

      Big thanks for watching! There were definitely a lot of pinstripe casualties on that trip! Yes, this video was filmed very close to Bend. Nicely done video, I like seeing your rigs and how you have them set up, your camp site and your use of the chainsaw. I live in California, soon to ban the sale of chainsaws, so I might just get one before the ban. How do you like the STIHL chainsaw? Very enjoyable video and beautiful scenery, tks for sharing! One quick observation, you all had KO2s on your Toyota's; which I was pleased to see. I just put KO2s my 2019 on my 4Runner and I had considered the Falken Wildpeaks, glad that I had choose the KO2s great for the So California desert. Happy trails, Semper Fi

    • @OverlandPNW
      @OverlandPNW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! STIHL chainsaws have been a great brand for me. I've owned several. I seem to buy a smaller one each time. The one in the video is an MS250 with an 18" bar which has handled every situation we've come across. One guy in our group carries a smaller STIHL and another just bought a battery powered Dewalt chainsaw. It surprised me. It actually does a great job. I'll stick with the gas because I like the power and we have had some big blow downs to tackle. At least one person in our group has a chainsaw on every trip we do and we have to use them a lot. So, good idea to get one! The K02s are a great tire. I am looking for a new set of K02s now. I'm going up to a 34" tire and the K02s in that size are backordered with no available date. Not sure what I will do. Happy trails to you as well and yes we have one veteran in our group. Thanks for your service!

    Subbed to you guys! Loved the cave. I don't know if i have the guts to go into a random cave like that though. Too superstitious / afraid of wildlife 🤣
    My goal is to get my 1998 third gen 4runner to do stuff like this. Do you guys have a lift on your 4runners? Do you recommend investing more in a winch and recovery gear than a lift? I was thinkin of just putting stock suspension with 32 inch tires, skid plates buying an offroad bumper with a winch and traction boards. So cool how your winch retracts into the bumper like that. Very awesome machines you got there. Inspiring me to get out there and enjoy nature.

    • @OverlandPNW
      @OverlandPNW  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sub! Suspension/tires and recovery gear are definitely the two things to start with. You absolutely do not have to wait to have a kitted rig to get out there! How you approach the build depends on (1) how extreme is the terrain you plan on tackling, and (2) will you be with someone else that has a winch. You can do a lot on 32" tires. I'm now on 34s on a 3" lift but I started my 4Runner build with 32s. The first two things I did on my 4Runner build were: (1) 2 1/2" lift and 32" tires, and (2) winch and bumper. We like to try trails that have obstacles that are difficult for an overlanding build. So, a winch is an absolute must have for us. However, you can get to some really amazing places on flat forest services roads. If you plan on driving just flat forest service roads for a while, then at least take a hand-operated "come along winch" and some other recovery items. Some suggestions would be traction boards, shovel, tow strap, tree saver, winch extension strap, kinetic rope, some soft shackles, etc. Extra food & water, a small medial kit and away you go! Those third gens are amazing! Post some videos of your adventures. I'd love to watch them!

    How is overlanding different from the dispersed camping we've been doing since before the word overlanding was invented? Or is it simply a more specific word, with a venn diagram of 'overlanding' and 'camping', and they do overlap?

    • @OverlandPNW
      @OverlandPNW  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not an expert in the etymology and definition but I believe the term "overlanding" originated in Australia as a word to describe the herding or transporting of livestock across great distances. Overlanding later become associated travel, exploration, and expedition in 4WD vehicles. Overlanding means different things to different people and in some sense it seems to be becoming a catch-all phrase. So, there is definitely overlap but I am not aware of a Venn diagram. There are a variety of definitions on-line if you are interested in researching it further. Cheers!

The burn rate is adjustable on the fireplace. So, I am not sure how long they would last. I have used them on 3 night trips and not run out. Here are the links to both in case you want to see the exact specs: (1) Propane Tank - ignik.com/products/gas-growler-deluxe (2) Fireplace - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MA0MSZM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
