      Thanks. Hits and misses are both part of anybody's day of shooting; it would be rather odd to me to cut out the misses and try to hide them. Duh, everybody misses, some days more than others. :-) Heck, I could hit a penny at half a mile if I shoot at it enough times, and if I edit out all the misses, I could be look pretty amazing! :-)

    Duh, every second a person owns a gun, it is serving a self-defense role. I've been safer every minute of my life due to my having a firearm handy.
    This is like saying a fire extinguisher in the home is much more likely to fall over and break someone's toe than to save the house from fire. It's the fact that it's there handy. The house is less likely to burn down due to its presence. "A little learning is a dangerous thing."

However (if I may), next time you shoot it, please don't rest the barrel on the tree limb. Maybe you can rest the bi-pod on tree limb to keep the barrel free floated so that you do not disturb the barrel harmonic.
    Regardless, cool video as always. Thanks!

    One of our teams captured a 700 very close to the border Viet Nam north, 1969. We actually had ammunition that work for it. One of the best functioning rifles I ever experienced. @TomaszWota 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gangster88232 There are different countries with different gun laws. Here, in Poland, I'd have to be in some hunting association, pay them some annual/monthly fee and apply for a permit that way to even think about a long gun.
      I'm not really interested in hunting.
      Or I could be in a sport shooting association, pay them the fee and have confirmed two or three participations in some official sport shooting events a year.
      I'm not really interested in that, either.
      And both mean a permit to own, shoot at a range or hunt, but not a permit to carry. When not in a range or hunting area, the weapon has to be transported unloaded and in a case.
      I could also be a collector - there's a specific permit for that too. I don't have the means, nor will, to collect guns. ;)
      For a self-defense permit - I'd have to apply to the Police to get a proper carry permit. But it's not that simple - there are psychological tests, background check, completely arbitrary decision at the end that doesn't even have to be positive if the former mentioned are positive, and - most importantly - it's out of the question if I'm not _already_ under serious, real, confirmed and _constant_ threat. At which point, that's kind of too late already...
      Basically, there are many hoops one has to jump through here to get a gun legally. (Since I live close to Ukrainian borders, not as many hoops to get one illegally...)
      What I'm left with is shooting ranges where I can shoot a loaned gun, or black powder guns that are legal if produced before - or a replica of such - 1885. Of course, that only applies to - forgive my lack of proper terminology here - guns that fire a black powder loads and bullets that are not enclosed in a single case, i.e. "separate loading" (translating directly) or however you call that. I'd say "muzzleloaders", but it also applies to percussion guns like Remington Model 1858, etc.
      You can legally carry these - but only unloaded, and you can legally shoot only on shooting ranges*. Which isn't that bad, I guess, but I'd rather shoot on my private property - where it would be safe, private and cheaper... Obviously our state doesn't want its citizens armed. ;)
      ___
      *) of course, if you're saving your own life - you can use whatever in self-defense, even a lightsaber if you happen to find one. But how well it will go in court, after you shoot somebody - even with a legally owned weapon - is a different story... There's this public belief that in these kinds of situations courts sometimes tend to value the bandit's health and life more than the victim's, and I wouldn't say it's entirely undeserved. :[

    should never rest the barrel itself on anything if your trying to be accurate, it greatly affects the harmonics and makes the gun "jump" before the bullet leaves the barrel, always better to rest the stock instead of the barrel, just stating the obvious though lol keep up the good work, love your videos, very helpful

      I'm glad I am not the only one who saw that. He was resting the barrel on that twig, and at that angle, it was pulling the barrel towards the tree...which would be why he was missing that first round of shots that were landing to the right of the target. He should have used the bipod legs for his rest. But he also states he isn't a long range rifle guy too...so he did warn us lol

      Its only illegal to possess a home-made or fabricated weapon suppressor OR a manufactured one without a ATF stamp/approval. Suppressors (there are no silencers that's Hollywood) are legal to purchase/own and use as long as you have the required ATF approval first. There are several good companies which sell them and will also assist you in the paperwork. I have purchased from AWC in Phoenix myself.

      I got a very OLD 700 that will do that but it is more of, rifle on safety, then if I put pressure on the trigger, let pressure off trigger, then when I switch safety off, it fires. If I do not pressure the trigger while it is on safety, then it will not fire when I switch safety off. I always thought it did this because I have the trigger adjusted down to something like 2 lbs pull. It is a .270 and I just am super careful while hunting with it. No rounds loaded until I'm ready at the stand and with the gun pointing out in safe direction.

      Remington recalled the rifles that had that problem, and it was because the rifle was altered from factory settings which voided warranty. It goes to show the quality of the Remington company that they still faced the responsibility of fixing the out-of-warranty rifles...

    Can anyone go more in depth about why a bolt action is more efficient with the suppressor?

    • @lger2010
      @lger2010 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      When a semi auto cycles it opens to allow the case to escape, but some of the explosion can also escape. Plus the ejection port wall slams back with quite a bit of force, and that makes noise too. A bolt action keeps everything contained. Plus of you're careful you can cycle it without much more than a side click.

    • @Primer595
      @Primer595 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Frient .Hi Frient.Good question! When the bolt action is locked up and fired the only exit for the column of air ahead of the bullet,the bullet itself and the propellant gas is through the barrel and then through the suppressor,which is really a type of delayed gas valve.Initially the air column ahead of the bullet is crushed into the suppressor and actually tries to push it off the rifle! This stretches the barrel into tension as the rifle also recoils backwards.This initially helps stiffen the barrel and reduces the amplitude of the barrel harmonics.Accuracy is enhanced by this stiffer barrel phenomenon.Once the bullet uncorks from the barrel muzzle the gas hits an expansion chamber and overtakes the bullet.However the gas also shoots to the side as well as forward which "throttles" the hot gas causng it to spin in eddy currents. This first chamber delays the gas and gives it time to cool against the walls of the suppressor.The bullet, being solid, continues on its way through the rest of the baffles which further delay the hot gas which is now starting to cool and lose pressure due to this cooling.The bullet can exit the suppressor muzzle without being "kicked" by as much gas because it is delayed in the suppressor.This should make the bullet more accurate, if the supressor baffles are really concentric and properly fitted to the barrel.The bolt action being a very solid design, with only one exit during the entire firing cycle, is therefore the most efficient design for a suppressor.During the war some rifles used leather suppressor baffles which slowed down the bullet a bit , but these baffles really delayed the gas giving it time to cool and making the suppressor as quiet as possible.The down side was that these baffles had to be replaced when they were shot out. The first shots made the bullet holes for following rounds. I hope this helps a bit. Rod Mac
