The more a man can learn about what it's like to be a woman , the more he can understand his lady . Thank you for the education . I've never been able to understand men who don't want to understand the real life experiences there lady must deal with . You can't sympathize , with what you know nothing about ..
I love how she just talks so openly about it because it seems like everyone else shys away from period talk because its "awkward". But she acts like it's natural and it's amazing!!!
insider tips from a long time cup user: you won't lose it up there, i promise. if your pelvic floor muscles are strong you may be squeezing the cup and it won't feel circular. don't worry, there's not a gap between your vaginal walls and the cup unless you feel an actual gap (this was one of my concerns lmao i guess i'm just super strong). make sure the lube you are using is water based! other lubes can ruin the cup. a more natural method is coconut oil. to find your cervix height just put your finger up and feel for a marble-with-a-dent thing. when you find that, check how far your finger is. if it's at the knuckle near the base of your finger, that's a high cervix, middle knuckle is a middle height cervix, and if it's at the top knuckle it's a low cervix. i'm going to assume you have a high cervix since it drifted up high. when you use the punch down fold (which i find is the easiest, it's the one on the diva cup box that's not a C shape) make sure you punch down over an air hole at the rim, it helps it pop open better. you also may not feel a pop, but it probably is open, just run your finger around if you aren't sure to check. when you are taking it out, bear down and reach as much as you can, and pinch it with two fingers and walk it down (pinch to break the seal, and keep holding that pinch until it's completely out so there's no spray). the diva cup tells you how many fluid ounces you bleed which is fun to compare day to day and month to month. and then dispose of the contents and rinse :)) these are my insider tips on menstural cups. ive been using them since i was 12 years old and i feel like i know a lot of tricks since it was very difficult for me at that age. at age 15, i'm super happy and comfortable using them and hope you continue to enjoy menstrual cups.
this was actually super helpful. as an 18 year old who's only recently started using cups (and I find them terrifying to be completely honest) this definitely is good advice that I wish I knew earlier!!
I just bought my first one...I’m suuuuper scared to try it, but also oddly excited. >.< it was a beginner one, kinda like a one size fits all. I hope I won’t have to purchase another to correct size. =\ My cup arrives in a week and so does my period. Wish me luck, cause if this works for me, it will be life changing! Haha.
never know what you're gonna find on youtube. holy (or hole'e) shit. btw didnt seem like the pun was intended but very appropriate none the less ("Good Morning ... I bloody love the menstrual cup").
I'm 14 and use a cup so, obviously, I'm a strong believer that anyone of any age can use them. So happy this will give them the publicity they need. I'm hoping it will become one of the most used menstrual products for women. You should try cloth pads (all brands are good) and for your lighter days i would recommend the sckoon cup which i use on my lighter days and use the moon cup on my heavy days (just in case you want to test put any others!).
katie milner I know this is like a really late response but was it embarrassing when you asked if you could get one? Because I’m around your age and want one but I’m scared to ask
im 14 and use one. I told my mum that I wasn't comfortable with all the waste I was producing using tampons or pads yes it was quite an akward conversation but it was so worth it @@bankrobber5147
I already posted this comment as a reply to someone else but then I kept scrolling and saw so many people worrying about the same thing so maybe if I post it again everybody can see it. Anyway, here are my tips for those people who are still young-ish, don't use tampons (because they're scary af) and/or are virgins, but want to give menstrual cups a go: I was in a similar situation (I'm 20 but also a virgin and I've also never used tampons, only pads) for basically a whole year since I first heard of menstrual cups until I finally bit the bullet and just bought one a few months ago. It took me about three cycles to fully get the hang of it but now it's the most wonderful thing in the world. My tips: Find the right folding technique (I recommend the origami fold; if I fold my Meluna cup like that it's even smaller than a normal tampon) and give yourself time. Have some spare pads at home in case you just don't get it in (happened to me the first two times). Once you got it in make sure it's opened up properly (aka stick a finger into your vag and push away the sides a bit - they're really soft and flexible, it won't hurt - so the cup has enough space to open) and don't panic if you don't get it out! For me that was never really a problem but it's always helpful to know that you have a shit ton of muscles in that area so you can actually easily just push it out (some say it helps to imagine trying to poop, although it's different muscles). Once you get hold of the bottom of the cup squeeze it a bit to break the vacuum and then just pull it out. It might hurt a bit (it does for me) but honestly it's maybe a 2 on the pain scale and it's over in less than a second. I really hope this hasn't made you even more scared but from the bottom of my heart I can promise and guarantee you that it is not bad at all and in my opinion three months of being a bit uncomfortable because you haven't quite figured everything out yet is so worth the months and years to come where I can just completely forget about my period for 12 hours straight. Menstrual cups are truly wonderful! Good luck!
Watch itsjustkelli! She is super informative. Just beware she shows her blood but while i thought i would be uncomfortable its actually informative experience i love her
Oooh I want to buy a Lunette! I have two Diva cups (bought before I realized there were other brands!) but I want to try some other styles BECAUSE COLORS!
I just bought and started using a Lunette and I LOVE IT! It always took some struggling to get my Diva Cup to open, so I looked for a firmer cup that would open more easily, and the model 2 (larger) Lunette is it. I was afraid at first that the model 2 would be too wide and it would be uncomfortable, but since I was looking for one about the same length as the Diva Cup I went for it. I'm very happy with it and I can recommend it to everyone. I've also heard good things about the model 1 (the small one).
I love that I can actually use it in my lighter days as well, cause it doesnt matter if the cup is empty when you take it out (comparing to taking out a white tampon, that hurts!) And I love I only have to empty it two times a day; mornings and evenings, and the rest of the day I cant even remember having periods! And also if you are not quite sure if your periods start today or tomorrow, you can still put the cup on today just in case and it doesnt do any damage (like drying you too much the way pads and tampons do if you use them without your periods). Love these videos!
i love how the menstrual cup makes you be in direct contact with your blood and then you realize your blood is not nasty and is not smelly and yeah.... i think it's awesome
Raquel Farré why does it make a difference seeing you exact amount of blood? I have a very light flow throughout my period ( i could theoretically leave a mini tampon in all day and it would leak) and i can realise that i don't have a lot of blood without a mc.
Jessy Lou well, then maybe in your case it doesn't make a difference, but in most people the amount of period blood changes throughout the days and the menstrual cup can help to know your body better, as you can see in the video
I'm a guy and I think it's very important, that more guys watch Hannah Witton or other youtubers with that topic. I know, it's basically for females but a lot guys have no clue what's going on with their girlfriend during the period. (Or think, it's ,,disgusting" or else.) I have a way better time, with my girlfriend, since I started to watch this channel 'cause there is now a way better understanding for ,,difficul" toppic in our relationship. Thanks for that😉✌🏻
YES! evem me as a man.. I gained so much understanding while watching this series :3 props to Hannah for filming the whole process and the reactions.. I think this series could really break down the stigma and shame that used to be assigned to menstruation.. keep it up Hannah! ^^ ..also can't wait for the book to be released! :3
The first time I tired one, I was so scared to take it out I lubed up my fingers, Pulled it out and THREW it across the room! It hit my bathroom door and exploded up it, and up my ceiling!
Lol i was worried so i didnt use anything when i did it but i think its working. Today is day one. Having pcos it was an option my gyno recommended because its chemical free unlike tampons. Im weirdly excited.
Something tells me I'm not in the main demographic here, but I found this video to be very informative about something I would otherwise know nothing about, so thanks!
Hannah I think it's so cool that you actually did it ON CAMERA because it somehow makes it feel less weird? It makes it funny and normal rather than weird and gross, and that's what young girls (and boys) need to feel more comfortable about periods! Also I recently tried the diva cup and I love it :)
You know what's really odd? Since getting the hang of using my cup I've been kind of looking forward to my period? I'm like "hell yeah body, bring it on, because now I'm prepared af" :'D
I gave up on my menstrual cup for so long because I just couldn't. get it. IN! However, this video made me want to try again, aaand I DID IT!! Thank you for encouraging me, Hannah!
I use an OrganiCup (but I think all of the brands are quite similar), and I don't have a special method, really. I use the second technique Hannah showed in the video :)
As a transgender nonbinary person who gets periods, my menstrual cup is one of my favourite things ever! I don't have to worry about the dysphoria that comes with buying menstrual products, I don't have to worry as much about finding gender neutral bathrooms throughout the day (because I don't have to empty It nearly as often!), and you can't feel it. It makes it so you don't really have to stress or really even think about your period. I'm just really really glad I tried it!
Hey!! We at Every Month would be really interested in talking to you about your experience as a person who menstruates and is transgender nonbinary - check out our videos about what we do and email everymonthcampaign@gmail.com if you're at all interested xoxoxo
I'm in the same position - trans non binary and i get dysphoria during that time. I usually use pads so i can't get away with wearing boxers at the same time. I just bought a menstrual cup and i'm so excited to finally not have to worry about it and be able to wear underwear that doesn't make me feel dysphoric :D
I am a veteran menstrual cup user and this video made me flash back to my first experience using a menstrual cup. Best decision of my life to switch over!
For anyone considering using a cup, RESEARCH!! I was scared so I watched a bunch of videos on them and read articles. Once I finally got one, it was easy peasy.
I researched and watched every video on them (for a few years) and when the time finally came (aka yesterday) i was like “ahhh how tf do you do thisssss” fml 😑
@@Mualskii you'll figure it out don't worry. :) We all started off for the first time some day. I'm from a super conservative country and I have been using lunette since 4 yrs. Watch it'sjustkelli, redherring and putacupinit videos on youtube. They are highly knowledgeable in menstrual cup/disk department. Good luck
When I tried a menstrual cup the first time - and also now if im putting it in - I find it waaay easier to just squat on the bathroom floor and put it in, i. e. not sitting on the toilet. The risk of it dropping into the toilet is eliminated this way. Also, I prefer the cup to be a little wet from the water I washed it with instead of using lube. So I wash the cup, shake it firmly, dry my hands if they're too wet, squat, fold the cup, put it in, give it a control-swirl with the moist finger to assure it folded correctly and maybe push it up a little further if necessary - and I'm done :) Oh, and regarding the emptying: I always just empty it before I go out or when I know I don't really will have the opportunity to empty it. And because it doesn't absorb anything that's not a problem, even if I haven't bled too much into it. And btw - I don't know if anyone else has this - but I can feel when the cup is close to being full, because I can feel the blood in the cup sloshing around my cervix. Although I couldn't empty it instantly one time when I felt it being full, it didn't overflow until I got the chance to empty it about 1 or 2 hours later.
I loved how you kept this so honest with all your clips from testing it out. It makes such a big difference to someone looking into using them rather than just getting someone give their thoughts afterwards and not really going into the actual details of the experience whilst using it. So, thank you!
Menstrual cups are the best thing I ever did for my periods, I use alongside fabric pads because I have endometriosis & adenomyosis so I'm super heavy. They do take some getting used to but once you have got the hang of it it's great. I find it holds way way more than tampons, and also collects the clots rather than letting them build up behind a tampon. I also find them way way comfier because they sit around the cervix rather than jabbing against it. I advise watching lots of tutorials and stuff to get the jist. It can be a bit uncomfortable removing it if you don't release the suction. I find the best way is to pinch the bottom on it, wiggle it and pull. When I'm out and about I take wet wipes with me. If anyone is struggling I suggest persevering as once it clicks it's great x oh also I would normally bleed through a maternity pad and jumbo tampon in 1/2 an hour, but with the cup I can get up to 2 hours on good days.
I just love this series so much for how honest you are at documenting like you weren't just like "this was a struggle" you literally showed the struggle
If you ever need advice or information about any reusable menstrual products then check out Bryony Farmer's channel - Precious Stars! She tells you EVERYTHING you'd ever need to know. I learnt so much from her. And now only use cloth pads and menstrual cups. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Bryony has videos that could help you decide what smaller cup to buy. Though, I'd recommend the Me Luna brand. They are super cheap and super good. They do a range of sizes and colours :)
I've been using the diva cup for almost a year now and also in love with it!!!! Love not spending money on period products, love not putting pad/tampon waste into the world, and low-key also the being in touch with my body/seeing how much I've bled. Never going back!! It makes periods so much more manageable for me.
This is the best! This was me last night! It took me an hour. I couldn't reach it, and I felt like it was at the wrong angle. I took several breaks to relax and finally got the courage to shove my fingers up far enough to grab and squeeze the base. I came out of the bathroom with the biggest smile on my face and felt like I had just conquered Mt Everest. Thank you for this video and being real.
i'm so glad i found her. oh my god. i've never found anybody as wonderful and spirited as she is who talks about and demonstrates things that most people find awkward.
I think thinx and a menstrual cup are just the perfect period combo :) As you are looking for a smaller cup: Maybe try the Intimina lily Cup? It's special because it's collapsible, which is great for travel, because if you don't need it, it's only realy tiny.
That's the lily cup compact you're talking about (the regular one isn't collapsible) and it is awesome! Though, a word of warning: it is made of a softer material so it's a bit mor delicate to make sure it unfolds fully once it's in. But I'm absolutely loving it!
This series is incredible! I will just say that if anyone is having trouble with it leaking - I did when I first started using it - you have to grip the base of the cup and turn it 360 once it's inside you. I think it finalises the suction or something and I haven't had any problems since.
You should look up a TH-cam channel called PreciousStarPads! She may seem young, but she has really amazing and informative videos on menstrual cups. I'm so glad I watched some of her videos before trying one out!
look at no more taboo! its a social enterprise so when you buy through them the money goes to supporting women globally to handle their periods and break down barriers around menstruation
Let me just tell you how incredibly helpful these series have been to me. As a 15 year old I'm only beginning to know my body and you talking about all this stuff so openly is just awesome. Thanks Hannah!
I have been using a Lunette cup for about a year and I love it! To anyone thinking about getting one: I recommend checking out Precious Star Pads TH-cam channel. She does reviews of various cups. It was very helpful in figuring out which one would work for me before spending the money on one.
I just recently purchased a menstrual cup and it was literally the best decision of my life. I have horribly heavy periods where I am crampy and irritable and just this last month while using the menstrual cup I noticed a big change in my mood and I had zero cramps....so life changing...and the fact that it saves me at least 20 dollars in feminine products a month is great. Kudos to you for making this video because it shows that it may be scary at first but once you are more comfortable with it..it becomes easy to use.
I clapped in 9:14 because I passed through the same when I was learning to use it. That's THE KEY of using the menstrual cup, you just have to push your baby out!!
I started using a menstrual cup a few months ago and it really has changed my life I used to really struggle with what to use during my sleep and I have quite a heavy flow and terrible cramps. I'm never going back.
The relief I feel after watching this video is wonderful! I've been wanting to try this for so long, but I've been so nervous! I feel a lot more at ease now I know what to expect!
Amazing!!! I've got PCOS and I'm on my period now for about 4 months continuously, and I always feel terrible wasting so many menstrual pads, after seeing this I ordered one immediately since it might make this struggle a bit lighter and absolutely more sustainable.
@Erica Sure! As long as you empty and rince it regularly (about every 12 hours), it is perfectly safe to have a cup inserted whenever you want. I always put it in one or two days before I'm about to get my period, so I don't have to go run to the bathroom the moment I feel it started.
Hi Hannah! I´m totally impressed and grateful for your hormone diaries! Love it!! To the Menstrual Cup! I started wearing it 6 month ago and never ever want to go back to tampons. My first thought was to do something for the environment, but now I also do it because it makes my life so much easier! My tips for anyone who wants to try: It will take time to get used to. I tried both techniques and I prefer the "pinching". After I pinched it, I put a tiny bit of lupe on the top. When putting it in, I angle to the back, not up. And for taking it out! Squatting and pushing the cup down with your muscles. Works like a charm! Glad there is a place for us women to talk about things like that! Thank you so much! Anna
This is my favorite series of all time, haha, I'm so excited whenever I see one of these pop up in my subscription box plus we're going through all of this at the same time! I got off the pill the same week you did and now I just got a menstrual cup so this video couldn't have come in a better time :D
I have a Hello cup and I love the cup. My tips for getting it out: 1. the poop flex. Use your pelvic muscles to push the cup down, it will feel like you are trying to poo, hence the name. It makes it easier to grab the cup. 2. pinch it, almost like you are trying to fold it in half. It breaks the seal and makes the diameter smaller so it's easier to remove. If you don't break the seal it will feel like you are trying to vacuum suck your internal organs out and it is very, very painful.
So as a trans man that has to deal with a monthly manstration your hormone diary's really really help me out with feeling a bit more chill and comfortable with that time of the month so I just want to say thank you so much this is an amazing series and you're and amazing person! 💙
You have no idea how helpful that was. Showing your real reactions and not hiding the fact that you had little freakouts throughout, finally convinced me to try a menstrual cup too.
It’s so weird rewatching this 6 years later, but thank you again for showing me using a cup isn’t scary 💞 sent this video to my friend today bc I remembered how much it helped me!
I am so glad you love the cup! People need to become more aware of how amazing they are! I also love how much you learn about your body when using a cup. It is important to figure out what height your cervix is at on your period because it can change. If you have a low cervix you will definitely need a smaller cup. There are some great videos online about finding the right cup too!
I love love love love using a menstrual cup! I never feel the same anxiety about leaking. There is no odor, you feel dry and there is no diaper feeling at all. And its so nice to be able to put it in and forget about it for 12 hours. It also eliminates that "flood" feeling when you are on your period and you stand up after sitting for a while. Also a helpful tip is rather than running your fingers along the edge to check to see if it is fully opened try holding the base (not the stem) and rotating it. Once it easily rotates it is fully open.
Oh my god... Exactly what I needed. I just used the cup for the first time and had the same thing happen to me. I thought I had lost it for sure and panicked about going to the doctor's, but somehow got it out a few minutes later. I love how she is so open and documented the entire thing. Thankyou so much for the honest review. 💕💕💕 To all the first time users out there this cup is amazing once you get the hang of it I definitely recommend it.
Did she just drop it in the toilet, pick it up and insert it in there without washing it? OMG! No matter how clean you think the toilet is, please wash it before you get it up there. Video is helpful though.
I just say I absolutely love this series As a young female it's so great to see you talk through a lot of things that arent talked about enough.I kind of see you as like an older sister
I started using a menstrual cup on my two latest period, I'm still getting used to it but the advantages are so much more important than the inconveniences! I love it :)
I've recently started with the mentrual cup as well! It's a bit tricky in the beginning but once you know how your body works and how to work the menstral cup, it's the best thing out there! I love it.
Literally went out and brought a Menstrual Cup today after watching this! Thank you Hannah, your hormone diaries have been relatable and eye opening :)
I had the exact same experience with my cup the first time around! Got it too far up and at a weird angle and I for sure thought I was never gonna get it out again, but it's been smooth sailing ever since. I personally don't think you need a smaller one for lighter days though -- it's not like tampons and pads where the size is dependent on your flow. The size of your menstrual cup is dependent on your vagina. But it's always a good idea to try different things!
I've wanted to switch to the menstrual cup for so long now but my fear of it has always stopped me, even after so much research and watching/reading positive reviews. It's so reassuring knowing that you were also worried but you figured it out pretty quickly, and just seeing your real, initial reactions make me feel much less nervous about trying one!
This is amazing!! Honestly, once you get the hang of them they are the BEST THING EVER!!! I've had a Mooncup for about 5 months and I wouldn't use anything else now, it makes me life so much easier, it's so much more comfortable and there is no waste! xx
This series should be such a big eye opener for society! These are your adventures as a 25 year old dealing with your period for the first time as an adult. But children are having these same experiences!
I'm so glad you included your initial struggle in the video and then concluded with saying you love it! I feel like a lot of people have a stressful first experience and then get put off it! Which is such a shame because it's a life changer once you get the hang of it! I'm never looking back...
@@Mualskii are you really trying to sexual orientation shame me? It was relevant context to show the video carried weight with an audience she may not have intended for and my gratitude
This is one of the best things I've seen on TH-cam. It's so real, helpful, honest, funny and just altogether great. Please never stop The Hormone Diaries. They're very much needed!
I looove that you love Menstrual Cups ! :D I've adopted it 4 years ago. My best friend also uses it, and now I can't go even one period without it (I did once, and I hated going back to tampons and pads, so uncomfortable and gross). I now have 2 of them, one I prefer using, and one I have always in my bag, in case I forget the other while travelling. The only thing is, I have some difficulties to change it at uni : few toilets have sinks in them. I don't like using water bottles... But this is a minor inconvenience :D
Wow Hannah, this episode was amazing! Like, I don't think I realized how much I wanted to review/frank discussion about period products and experiences until you started this series. This episode has certainly convinced me to try a menstrual cup! I am quite poor, and I hate having to buy new pads and tampons, not to mention all the things you said--the smell, the waste, the clean up, the hoping nothing clogs my toilet! And please PLEASE do a video about Thinx underwear. I started seeing ads for them on my Facebook, and I've been SO intrigued by it. Basically, bleeding kinda sucks, and I want it to suck less. I truly appreciate that you're making it suck less for people! THANK YOU!
SMALLER RECOMENDATION!!! I use the Lily cup compact from intima. This is significantly smaller then any others I have used. The plastic is so so soft and I LOVE it. I am so glad you persisted. Mine has changed my life. So amazing.
also hearing the cries of first time trying to get it out = super relatable. i try not to put it up too high, but it just sort of shimmies up there of its own accord if i leave it in there long enough. but the squat and relax advice is so helpful - you will feel the cup move low enough to grasp it. and the comment about 'weird angles' is v. relevant - some friends and i were discussing the whole process of getting to know your body through this experience, and many of us reported having discovered that the cup needs to travel at an angle that is more skewed left or right than we had imagined. comparing notes on this funny little piece of silicone has felt like a mini sexual revolution in my life, and i love it! this vid brought me joy
My new favourite TH-cam series! I use a MeLuna cup, with a tiny ring on the end instead of the little stem, it makes it SO easy to remove when you are first starting out. They also come in a variety of sizes and colours :)
perfect timing : i'm just at the end of my first cycle with a menstrual cup so i've just been through all of the same stages of excitment, fear and awe, it's really quite funny!! i struggled a bit at the beginning, and i'm still not 100% comfortable when taking it out but maaaaan this is life changing! it makes periods so. much. easier. all the inconviniences are gone (except the pain) and it just made me very happy ! thanks for the great video, it definitly helps to see i'm not the only one struggling haha
I found myself watching one of your videos as a recommendation from TH-cam, and I've now watched many more. I can't tell you how much I love your presenting style . You have an attractively open face, which predisposes your audience members to attend to what you say and to engage with its content and meaning, and you are so straightforward, funny, and utterly natural: I imagine I would enjoy watching you comment about anything... it wouldn't matter what. In this case, I was gripped, fascinated and entertained by your hands-on (in?) approach a topic that many people still find it difficult to discuss. By the conclusion of the video I knew more than I did at the start - win!. Thanks.
I've so many questions 😂 -what do you do if you need to empty it in a public toilet? -can you sleep with it in? (Would it leak) -do you need to wear a panty liner with it? Would be awesome to get the answers 👌🏼❤️
Kate Czarniawska - you empty it in the toilet and then insert it back and wash it when you get home. or wash it if there's a private sink right next to the toilet. - depends on how heavy your flow is, but yes, generally speaking you should be able to. My haven't leaked once yet - No, it should be fine if you empty it often enough (again, depends on your flow, but they recommend to do it every 4-8h I think) Hope that helps :)
Here are my answers :) - I personally have never been in that situation! I just put it in in the morning and empty it when I get home from uni or at night on lighter days - you can leave it in for 12 hour ;) - yes, using it at night is perfect; I sleep a lot better now when I'm on my period - as I said, leaving it in for 12 hours is fine - I wear one just to make me feel save in case I did not place it right, but you don't necessarily need to I am never going back to using tampons, so I think you should just try it!
Concerning the public toilet: I always have a small water bottle in my bag so if I need to, after emptying the cup, I'll do a quick rinse with the water bottle and then pat dry with toilet paper or tissues and it's perfectly fine :) Concerning leaks: you shouldn't have any if the seal is in place (once the cup unfolds inside you, it's sides form a seal which is why you have to pinch the base of the cup to break the seal in order to get it out). It's pretty to verify that the seal's in place by 1) running one finger around the side of the cup to make sure it's all unfolded and 2) grabbing the stem and tugging slightly: if the seal is in place, the cup shouldn't move. So if the seal is in place you can definitely sleep in it and go about your day without panty liners :) I can keep it in with no leaks for over 8 hours even on heavy flow days!
It's hard at first, but you WILL get the hang of it. The first time I put it in, I thought "How am I every going to get it out?" Now I've been using my cup for just over 2 years and I love it.
How are menstrual cups for someone who's never used tampons and is a virgin? I normally use pads, but I was thinking of trying a menstrual cup out as its more sustainable than using pads. Just wondering if they are more uncomfortable for someone who's not used to using things like tampons
Let's just say it's really uncomfortable putting it in and taking it out but once it's IN you don't feel it and it's great. You do need a lot of practise in my experience! don't worry if you first buy it and try it but you don't find the 'right angles' - you just need time to figure it out the best way for you, like which way to fold the cup is better etc.
Thanks Hannah I am doing a project on menstruation cycle and I find your videos very helpful , cuz being a boy its very difficult to find this types of practical info. Please ladies and girls dont hesitate to share your experiences,Thanks in advance
I've been using menstrual cups for over 2 years now and love it. Here's my tips - as for the fold, I do kind of a combination of the 2 you have mentioned. Think it's called the '7' fold. Fold the cup in half like the c fold then move one corner down so it forms a point. Makes it way easier to insert and pop open (the punch down fold is awful for popping open I've found) -a little bit of lube helps but not too much, rinsing the cup first is usually enough, particularly on heavy days! - to help the cup pop open pull it down slightly and try and twist it, then push back up once popped open! -I have a Me Luna cup, loads of variety on their website and lots of different sizes. I have a ring cup so instead of the stem it's a little loop, makes pulling the cup out loads easier. They also do softer cups, much better for sleeping in! -check out Precious Stars Pads. Bree has loads of really useful videos on menstrual cups! -don't worry if you struggle. I've had no problems for months but the last month I just could not get it right. That's the way it goes sometimes :) Enjoy life with a menstrual cup 😊

That’s exactly how I felt when I used the cup for the first time 😂
The more a man can learn about what it's like to be a woman , the more he can understand his lady . Thank you for the education . I've never been able to understand men who don't want to understand the real life experiences there lady must deal with .
You can't sympathize , with what you know nothing about ..

what about gay men--
You are a real man. I love this 🥺✨
I love how she just talks so openly about it because it seems like everyone else shys away from period talk because its "awkward".
I always used to think like what fucking marble? But then I found it and suddenly knew what they all meant 😂🤯
looking for some help! I just got one today and tried putting it in. It HURT going in. And I can't rotate it at all. Think I'm a bit small?
I just bought my first one...I’m suuuuper scared to try it, but also oddly excited. >.< it was a beginner one, kinda like a one size fits all. I hope I won’t have to purchase another to correct size. =\
My cup arrives in a week and so does my period. Wish me luck, cause if this works for me, it will be life changing! Haha.
@@lo3522 I kinda got the hang of it! You will too- just takes practice. Good luck xx
I really appreciate your commitment to documenting the whole process!

btw didnt seem like the pun was intended but very appropriate none the less ("Good Morning ...

Maisey Bryant thank you!
I already posted this comment as a reply to someone else but then I kept scrolling and saw so many people worrying about the same thing so maybe if I post it again everybody can see it.
Anyway, here are my tips for those people who are still young-ish, don't use tampons (because they're scary af) and/or are virgins, but want to give menstrual cups a go:
I was in a similar situation (I'm 20 but also a virgin and I've also never used tampons, only pads) for basically a whole year since I first heard of menstrual cups until I finally bit the bullet and just bought one a few months ago.
Good luck!
great comment - I couldn't agree more! :)

THE HONESTY. All women everywhere needed this
this made me impulse buy a menstrual cup, its purple, im so excited? thankyou for shedding light (and womb lining) for this video!
i know right! its lunette, they do purple, blue, yellow and coral
Oooh I want to buy a Lunette! I have two Diva cups (bought before I realized there were other brands!) but I want to try some other styles BECAUSE COLORS!
Mine is purple too !! SO CUTE !!
Ella Ford soooo its been a year, how did it go!?
YES!
I've always used tampons without an applicator (don't even know if they have them with applicators here) so I've never had an issue with the blood...
Well, you get your hands dirty, dut you don't get to see the exact amount of blood that comes out of you, because it is inside of the tampon
(Or think, it's ,,disgusting" or else.)
I have a way better time, with my girlfriend, since I started to watch this channel 'cause there is now a way better understanding for ,,difficul" toppic in our relationship.

Hannah I think it's so cool that you actually did it ON CAMERA because it somehow makes it feel less weird? It makes it funny and normal rather than weird and gross, and that's what young girls (and boys) need to feel more comfortable about periods! Also I recently tried the diva cup and I love it :)

I gave up on my menstrual cup for so long because I just couldn't. get it. IN! However, this video made me want to try again, aaand I DID IT!! Thank you for encouraging me, Hannah!
Marte Ulvedal i can't get it in either :/ what kind of cup do you use and do you have a special method? I really want to use one..
That is so forking great!!!!!!! YAY YOU! And menstrual cups!
What is nonbinary?
Darian Sandmartin I'm not a girl or a boy :)
I'm utterly OBSESSED with these videos, keep up the good work Hannah
I am a veteran menstrual cup user and this video made me flash back to my first experience using a menstrual cup. Best decision of my life to switch over!
mine too! I switched to a menstrual cup 2 months ago :D no more pads or tampons bleh lol
I’m still struggling on where to exactly put it in, I mean there is no info on where exactly
Yes the cup is amazing
So I wash the cup, shake it firmly, dry my hands if they're too wet, squat, fold the cup, put it in, give it a control-swirl with the moist finger to assure it folded correctly and maybe push it up a little further if necessary - and I'm done :)
Oh, and regarding the emptying: I always just empty it before I go out or when I know I don't really will have the opportunity to empty it.
Definitely similar to my first time using a menstrual cup. Thanks for sharing such a personal experience on film, very inspirational
"That's what friends are for" I'm dead 😂
Nevermind Nevermind h
I'm a boy, and I'm gay, and I will probably never go anywhere near a menstrual cup, but I still enjoyed this video xD

Beck AND LENA THE LENA CUP
This is the best! This was me last night! It took me an hour. I couldn't reach it, and I felt like it was at the wrong angle. I took several breaks to relax and finally got the courage to shove my fingers up far enough to grab and squeeze the base. I came out of the bathroom with the biggest smile on my face and felt like I had just conquered Mt Everest. Thank you for this video and being real.
I just love this series wow
i'm so glad i found her. oh my god. i've never found anybody as wonderful and spirited as she is who talks about and demonstrates things that most people find awkward.
"'I'm clearly not empathising cuz my vagina is chill"
Hahaha, Lucy.
Nice
I absolutely love this video. Seriously, I'm convinced the first time anyone puts a diva cup in the emotions and process has to be universal.
I recommended the same one for her! I keep it in my backpack for unexpected periods, but I think it's also small enough to be good for light days.
This series is incredible! I will just say that if anyone is having trouble with it leaking - I did when I first started using it - you have to grip the base of the cup and turn it 360 once it's inside you. I think it finalises the suction or something and I haven't had any problems since.
You need to watch Precious Star Pads, she's reviewed pretty much every period product out there on her channel
I was dying laughing when your friends were over and you were trying to remove it! I don't think I've ever laughed this hard at a TH-cam video.😂😂😂

Which menstrual cup are you going to buy? The Diva Cup seems to be the most well-known one but there are so many others too.

The Lunette cup is great! I've tried several and landed on this one.
We use Lunette cups in our packs and it makes me feel so happy that you love it!!! I use a diva cup myself xoxox
Shortcake which size did you get?
You might want to checkout the Precious Star Pads. She makes a lot of videos on inserting and tacking care of the cup.
this is the video that finally got me to work up the courage to actually buy a menstrual cup after waffling on it for almost two years.
You can actually use the cup on your lighter days. Some people use it just for daily discharge, no worrys and no need for a smaller cup :)
@Erica Sure! As long as you empty and rince it regularly (about every 12 hours), it is perfectly safe to have a cup inserted whenever you want. I always put it in one or two days before I'm about to get my period, so I don't have to go run to the bathroom the moment I feel it started.
"i need to get my finger in. DAMN IT WHY DO I HAVE TO HAVE NAILS"
"I'm going to have to do it for her aren't i" I laughed🤣🤣🤣
Showing your real reactions and not hiding the fact that you had little freakouts throughout, finally convinced me to try a menstrual cup too.
holy crap I love that you showed yourself actually inserting the cup. you are an incredible underrated TH-camr who definitely needs more recognition!
Once it easily rotates it is fully open.
my wife just watched and was impressed. very well put together video. she will be getting one for herself.
Gracy Dsouza Toilet Water is clean, but the toilet bowl is not clean.
GJ I know she’s nasty
She washed it she just cut the clip
Yeahhh
I just say I absolutely love this series
As a young female it's so great to see you talk through a lot of things that arent talked about enough.I kind of see you as like an older sister
I love it.
That scene with your friends was absolutely hilarious! Especially when you friend was like "uh oh am I going to have to do it?" Hahahaha
This is great. I'm thinking about getting a mensural cup myself and this motivated me to get it.
This is amazing!! Honestly, once you get the hang of them they are the BEST THING EVER!!! I've had a Mooncup for about 5 months and I wouldn't use anything else now, it makes me life so much easier, it's so much more comfortable and there is no waste! xx
"All right. It's inside me."
Said the actress to the bishop.
This series should be such a big eye opener for society! These are your adventures as a 25 year old dealing with your period for the first time as an adult. But children are having these same experiences!
Can I just say how jealous I am that you can predict your period that close to it starting
I am on the pill so it helps me know when my period is coming
I'm so glad you included your initial struggle in the video and then concluded with saying you love it! I feel like a lot of people have a stressful first experience and then get put off it! Which is such a shame because it's a life changer once you get the hang of it! I'm never looking back...
As a straight dude this was a very informative/interesting video lol
Not sure why u needed to emphasize your sexual orientation as if gay men find this any more relateable but all the power to u bro 😂
@@Mualskii are you really trying to sexual orientation shame me? It was relevant context to show the video carried weight with an audience she may not have intended for and my gratitude
@@clownd2 i get that, I’m sorry if i offended you
This is one of the best things I've seen on TH-cam.
THANK YOU!
Yeeeees!!
Lucy Moon I love you!!!!!
buying my sister a cup morrow, forwarding her this one to instill confidence❤❤❤
One thing about my menstrual cup experience is that I always get air trapped up there and let out a giant queef whenever I take it out
SMALLER RECOMENDATION!!!
I use the Lily cup compact from intima.
This is significantly smaller then any others I have used. The plastic is so so soft and I LOVE it.
I am so glad you persisted. Mine has changed my life.
So amazing.
wished for this video today and here it is!!!! true menstrual cup magic
also hearing the cries of first time trying to get it out = super relatable. i try not to put it up too high, but it just sort of shimmies up there of its own accord if i leave it in there long enough. but the squat and relax advice is so helpful - you will feel the cup move low enough to grasp it. and the comment about 'weird angles' is v. relevant - some friends and i were discussing the whole process of getting to know your body through this experience, and many of us reported having discovered that the cup needs to travel at an angle that is more skewed left or right than we had imagined. comparing notes on this funny little piece of silicone has felt like a mini sexual revolution in my life, and i love it! this vid brought me joy
Thanks.
I've so many questions 😂
-what do you do if you need to empty it in a public toilet?
-can you sleep with it in? (Would it leak)
-do you need to wear a panty liner with it?
Would be awesome to get the answers 👌🏼❤️
Kate Czarniawska
- you empty it in the toilet and then insert it back and wash it when you get home. or wash it if there's a private sink right next to the toilet.
- depends on how heavy your flow is, but yes, generally speaking you should be able to. My haven't leaked once yet
- No, it should be fine if you empty it often enough (again, depends on your flow, but they recommend to do it every 4-8h I think)
Hope that helps :)
Julia Ts thank you! ❤ I think i might actually get one because I've been trying to switch most things i use to more eco friendly alternatives
Here are my answers :)
- I personally have never been in that situation! I just put it in in the morning and empty it when I get home from uni or at night on lighter days - you can leave it in for 12 hour ;)
- yes, using it at night is perfect; I sleep a lot better now when I'm on my period - as I said, leaving it in for 12 hours is fine
- I wear one just to make me feel save in case I did not place it right, but you don't necessarily need to
I am never going back to using tampons, so I think you should just try it!
Awesome! I decided to try it for the same reason, to reduce my waste. It's a game-changer, hugely recommend it ☺
Concerning the public toilet: I always have a small water bottle in my bag so if I need to, after emptying the cup, I'll do a quick rinse with the water bottle and then pat dry with toilet paper or tissues and it's perfectly fine :) Concerning leaks: you shouldn't have any if the seal is in place (once the cup unfolds inside you, it's sides form a seal which is why you have to pinch the base of the cup to break the seal in order to get it out).
Just wondering if they are more uncomfortable for someone who's not used to using things like tampons
pixelpi Shouldn't be a problem if you're aware of your body.
I'm a virgin and only used pads before and it was fine if that's any help :)
I never used tampons and I love my divacup
Let's just say it's really uncomfortable putting it in and taking it out but once it's IN you don't feel it and it's great. You do need a lot of practise in my experience! don't worry if you first buy it and try it but you don't find the 'right angles' - you just need time to figure it out the best way for you, like which way to fold the cup is better etc.
I used to hate (!!!!) tampons. They felt super uncomfortable for me. But I also love my diva cup. It's made my infinitely more bearable.
Thanks Hannah I am doing a project on menstruation cycle and I find your videos very helpful , cuz being a boy its very difficult to find this types of practical info. Please ladies and girls dont hesitate to share your experiences,Thanks in advance
This was literally me with my contact lenses
I think you are using your contact lenses wrong! 🤔
HAAH
Ahhh
I've been using menstrual cups for over 2 years now and love it. Here's my tips
- as for the fold, I do kind of a combination of the 2 you have mentioned. Think it's called the '7' fold. Fold the cup in half like the c fold then move one corner down so it forms a point. Makes it way easier to insert and pop open (the punch down fold is awful for popping open I've found)
-a little bit of lube helps but not too much, rinsing the cup first is usually enough, particularly on heavy days!
That's the way it goes sometimes :)
Enjoy life with a menstrual cup 😊
