I agree but I don’t do it anymore cause when I was having super abundant periods, I used to loose some endometrial pieces in addition to the blood and it disgusted me a lot cause it was huge. So now it’s the toilet.

TMI for travelers: if you are planning on flying with a menstrual cup. Please be aware of pressure differences due to major elevation changes. The menstrual cup creates a suction or vacuum of sorts. Flying or hiking to much higher elevations can effect the position of your cup. For example if you are traveling from Chicago to Denver your elevation change may result in a cup that is at risk of moving to far out. And vice versa the cup may move much much too far into you. If you are flying to somewhere with similar elevation this should not effect you even in the aircraft because of cabin pressure controls on the plain.
I’m a guy, and I find this cup thing very interesting. All the videos I’ve watched makes me feel everybody should know about these cups. Seems like a game changer.
@@leonardo.diCATio I saw a video about people answering period questions and one of the questions was "where does the bandaid go?" but it was a buzzfeed video so take it with a grain of salt.
It was a little heartbreaking to me when I was explaining to my friends I was trying this out, one actually told me “Ew, well that’s information we did not need to know.” But pads are disgusting diapers, so...
A tip for using the cup in public restroom stalls - wash your hands BEFORE you enter the stall - then you can remove the cup, empty into toilet bowl, wipe with toilet tissue and reinsert without a rinse if need be. Your hands were clean so you’re only putting something back that was already inside you - not ideal but much better than same scenario with unwashed hands.
I wash my hands before hand too and use a paper towel to dry my hands and use that towel to close the stall of the door. I want to avoid touching anything before touching my vagina. I know paper towels aren't super eco-friendly but in this scenario they are necessary for me
I have used a cup for eleven years here's my best tips for beginners : 1. The first couple of months may be a difficult start. Don't get discouraged, you can make it work, you just are getting to know your body better, it may be awkward. 2. The cup you chose may not fit you. My first cup was perfect for me. I used it for 5 years and then I decided to buy a new one, and I got stuck with a cup that was a horrible fit. It was painful, honestly. I bought a smaller one and I have had this one for about 6 years. When in doubt : buy a small one, then work your way up. 3. Leaks are going to happen. It happens with every method. It's okay. I had a leak free streak for 4 years and then I was leaking all the time, with no idea why. Then I found out what I was doing wrong, no more leaks. 4. People may be grossed out by it. I was so surprised at first that I was getting such disgusted reactions. Especially by young women. I am guessing that it is because they only have contact with their blood when it is on plastic pads which make it disgusting, or they have an issue with the insertion thing. To each their own. I just think, the best person to know your boundaries is yourself. It's just that I have found myself knowing my body so much better since I bought my first cup, it makes me sad some women don't get to know themselves as much. But over the years I have been quietly using a cup and now most of my girl friends are using one too, even if at first it seems like an impossible thing for them. What I mean to say is : you will get strong reactions to it, but with time some might get around to it, if only you can be a good example of how awesome it is. 5. Which leads me to my last tip : don't hesitate to brag. Like when you hear a friend moan about not being able to go swimming because of her period or that she feels gross or anything. Just say don't know what that is like, I got a cup and it's awesome. At first people had no idea what it was, now more and more have heard about it, and some get curious, once they know you are using one they might ask you questions.
Thank you so much for your comment. I love your tips especially the bragging. :-) I do the same. :-) It was life changing, especially for martial arts (white gi, white mat) and for swimming, to start with a cup. I wish I had tried cups much earlier. But I think I had such a good start because I researched a lot online before buying my first cup. I had help choosing just the right cup for me: A foolproof firm cup that popped open no matter what, with a lot of holes at the top. And it was the right size/length for me. I decided 2 years ago that I was done with the taboo around periods and started posting about my cup, my period panties etc. on Facebook. Just mentioning how happy I was with using them. I was blown away by the positive reactions from my friends and by the many questions I got in private messages.
I want to try this but I’m really scared of the cup getting stuck!! I would feel way more comfortable if it had a string like a tampon. Is this a legitimate worry or is it totally silly and definitely won’t happen?
@@heyitsmaddiii802 It definitely won’t happen! I’ve just been trough my first week with a cup, and as I’m convinced I have a high cervix, and a pretty small cup, I was SO SCARED that it would to get stuck! And when first trying to remove it, I thought it had - I could reach the stem, but there was no way I could pinch it! So I stepped out if the bathroom, had a a cup of tea to calm down, and on the second try, I tried to “bear down”, like everyone tells you. IT WORKS! It’s not difficult AT ALL. Removing it without bearing down was almost impossible, but when you’re bearing down, there’s NO PROBLEM pushing the cup all the way down to where you can reach and pinch it :) Give it a try! You’ll probably panic for some seconds, but it’s true what they say; relax, bear down, and it will all be fine! :) Go for it!! :D
@@heyitsmaddiii802 look for a cup with a ring pull. I know the flex cup has one and another one (can't remember the name). But that was my fear too. I ended up getting the flex cup. But everyone has their preferences and not every cup works for everyone. You have to find one that fits your body right. Read reviews, do research and figure out where your cervix sits.
I have NEVER heard a TH-camr start out with “I’m so happy you wanted to join me today!” and it is 100% my new favorite intro!! P.S. your info is also just wonderful, thank you!
Girl!!! I literally just started my period and I was excited! I’ve been waiting a month to try my cup! I’m reading everyone’s comments so I know what to do and expect :P Glad I’m not alone 😂🤣
Started period yesterday. I do recommend wearing a liner at first. I made some adjustments and it worked great. It was freeing not having to place a tampon in after every time I peed. I will continue to wear a liner (and actual pad at night) until I really get the hang of this.
worryworm ~today i bought my first cup and when I got home i actually showed me dad ! he was honestly so chill abt it as if we were talking abt something else😂 but yea he said he’s gonna do more research on it , I’m so happy he so was open abt talking abt these kinds of things :)
Agreed 🤝 so fathers won't be ashamed when their daughters talk about periods and actually support them and not tell them that they should have some shame.
I ordered one a few days ago, and not gonna lie, I'm kinda terrified. Watching videos like this both eases my fears but also makes me even more scared. I can give updates about my experiences when it gets here!
I just tried mine for the first time yesterday. It was weird to put in because I've never really felt the inside of my body. Having it inside kind of felt like pressure on my pelvis, a bit like cramps. I think itll take time to get it right so I dont feel pressure. I felt like I might be leaking throughout the day but when I went to check there was no leaking. Pulling it out was really easy because I used the Flex cup which has a pulling part you can grab onto.
Thanks ,,,,I’m a single dad prepping for the day I got to answer this question. Very helpful. Your quite easy on the eyes also . Hope you don’t mind me saying so .cheers
That’s the benefit of finding a restroom that’s single stall and you can reach the sink from the toilet. You can wash it before putting it back in. If you absolutely have to use a multi stall restroom, grab a few paper towels and get some of them wet before you go in the stall, that way you will be able to wipe off your cup before putting it back in and be able to clean your hands a bit so you can pull your pants back up without making a mess.
@@sarahfolland8833 I try to avoid that situation by wearing period panties or a cotton pad with the cup on heavier days, in case I don't make it home before the cup is full. I also bring wet wipes in my bag. I open the bag, so they are within easy reach. I empty the cup and put it back in as it is. Then I pull out the wipes to clean my hands, then dispose the wipes in the bin for the tampons. That way, my hands are clean enough to dress again and go to the sink outside without looking like I murdered someone. Hope that helps a bit. :-)
@@sarahfolland8833 No need. Just wash your hands properly with anti bacterial soap before you go into the toilet, then remove it and empty. Make sure the cup doesn't touch anything except you clean hands, not even toilet paper. Then put it back in. Wash hands again when you come out and Moisturize of course. When you're home you can then wash it and put it back it if you want. (tip is to keep to small anti bac soap + hand sanitizer and hand cream in your period emergency kit, incase you need to change and the restroom doesn't have some for whatever reason. Normally they last 12h so if you're not heavy. You should be good
@@caritasdecaro8019 I recently was at a family reunion and had to remove mine and empty wasn't as bad as I thought. Yes u r a bit longer in the bathroom and i brought flushable wipes. It worked out good.
Hi! I am 13 years old, and a few months ago I bought my first (Luna) menstrual cup. Each time I tried to insert the menstrual cup, I got immense pain and a VERY painful cramp. I never tried again till I got a softer, more malleable cup by a different brand. I inserted it, and I can barely feel it! It popped in place, (as it did with the first cup) and it was completely painless. The point I’m getting at is experiment with cups and different folds!! Find what you need, figure out what might be the problem and explore your options! Good luck to everyone trying this for the first time, I’m sure it will be worthwhile :)
Omg I'm so jealous, when i was 15 the seller refused to sell me a menstrual cup because I shouldn't be a virgin, which is a myth. I waited till i was 18 and got one🥲
@@farinab.1336 You are supposed to cut the long tip tail thing off, how on earth did you yank out your coil? Isn't that way further up? I guess the coil can move around.
Quick note: her second to last tip when she talks about “length of cervix”, she means the length of the vaginal canal! Two different body parts: canal is the tube from the outside to the uterus. The cervix is the entrance to the uterus. Hope this helps!
I was thinking she meant when your cervix drops or raises depending on where you are in your cycle. For me, my cervix drops really low (had no idea until I started using the cup) so I have to be sure it sits in the cup when I insert it to avoid excess leakage
@skye Yes it's safe (with the over the counter 3% stuff)! Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen. Just give it a quick rinse after soaking and you'll be good to go.
@skye Yeah, it's safe, it's recommended not to do it every month bc it can slowly degrade your cup, but you can do it every like three months or so. If you clean your cup with cold water and you let it in hydrogen peroxide every couple of months you will see it basically doesn't stain at all. Also don't let it in hydrogen peroxide for more than 7 or 8 hours, and always rinse it with water afterwards. I've been doing this since the beginning with mine, for the past like 4 years and it's as good as new.
@@aldimanzoni6872 Hey! Thanks a lot for telling this, but how do you clean the menstrual cup every month, at the end of the periods, when you are not using hydrogen peroxide?
THANK YOU for mentioning blowing on the holes!! I do that after washing the cup before inserting, because there’s often water stuck in there. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who blows to open up those holes!!
I can not thank you enough for this video. I'm from a rural area and I personally do not know a single person who uses the menstrual cup, so I had to figure it out on my own through much trial and error. I have been using it for about 6 months now and love it, but I was sad when I started experiencing some leakage. I did not know about the holes around the rim! I had saved the directions for the cup, and yes, there was a small part in the directions about keeping the holes clean, but did not explain why. Admittedly, I did not get much past the different folds and cleaning instructions, so I probably never would have read the directions again. Thank you for the tip! Of course, after cleaning the holes, I haven't had any more problems with leaks!
I love using a cup now, but when I first tried it I couldn't get a good position. I kept trying, and realized that if I put it in as soon as I start spotting then it works great! Apparently the vaginal walls can swell during your period and if you get it in right away before the swelling starts it makes a perfect indent for the cup to sit in. Then you only take it out to empty it and when you out it back in it slips right into place. If I try to start using it a day or so after my period starts it doesn't seem to stay in place or seal well. Anyway, long comment, but it might help someone that has the same issues and is almost ready to give up. Dont give up!
That makes so much sense. My first cycle with a menstrual cup I thought it would be easier to wait until after my heaviest day to try it. It took 20 minutes in the shower struggling to get it in. My most recent cycle I put it in as soon as I started and it went right in.
I literally cannot poop with a tampon in. I push them out everytime. it's insane lol. that's another reason why cups appeal to me - I won't have just put in a fresh tampon then need to poop five minutes later and have to pull out a dry tampon, which is THE most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced and I HATE it.
I have that problem too, but I also have Cystic Fibrosis and cough a lot. The coughing pushes out tampons as well, so that's why I have always wanted to try a cup. And I hate wearing pads.
I have no known issues down there, have had one child, c-sectioned and same regards toilet, and same when coughing!! Not sure why I would be scared to try a cup, I have to use tampon and pads!! Hate it!!!
I started using a cup about a year ago, and I will never go back! I've been trying to convince friends and my daughters how great they are, but they don't seem interested. I'm going to share your video with all of them lol.
It's wonderful that you can speak tastefully about things like this. We don't have a problem with discussing fingernails or ears, but women's hygiene and health is still forbidden to so many. We're all better off for frank and open discussions. My grandmother had 11 children and still never had a clue about a lot of things that would have made her life so much easier and healthier. Good on you for your willingness. You did this wonderfully.
My 2 heaviest days I have to empty it every 2-3 hours but the other days it's morning and evening. So much more convenient/clean/pleasant than pads, and healthier and less irritating than tampons.
This video is actually accurate, I always see videos about people talking about how to insert it and how great it is, BUT NO ONE TOLD ME HOW TO TAKE IT OUT. The first time was a nightmare, i started to panic because legitimately couldn’t take out. So I really stand by what she said to take it out.
Kanesha Singh What about trans men who still menstruate? They are still men. Having a period doesn’t mean you are a woman. I have periods and I’m gender fluid and don’t identify as a man or a woman.
Emily Meredith regardless, if you are born with a vagina you are a woman, if you are born with a penis you are a male. You are confused because you choose to be, you lead by emotion because you choose it. Regardless if one day you wake up feeling “womanly” or another day feeling nothing , you are either a woman or a male. There is no “ maybe” there is a yes or a no. Truth is truth
Kanesha Singh I’m not confused about my gender. I don’t believe that gender is based on genitalia but agree to disagree. You’re right, there is no maybe. But that doesn’t mean that the only two options are male and female. Gender is a choice. You choose to identify with the gender that you identify with. If someone asks your gender, you would tell them with no questioning. You choosing to not identify as the opposite gender that you identify as or somewhere in the middle is you choosing your gender. You make the choice to identify with the gender you identify as just like me. I make a conscious decision to identify with the gender that fits with me just like you do. Also, the way that I personally identify myself is none of anyone else’s business but mine. Same with you and everyone else.
@@kaneshasingh3214 There's a lot more to gender and sex than meets the eye. A trans man can even be born with XY chromosomes but experience a lack of testosterone in their mother's womb and be phenotypically female but actually male. Brain scans show that trans people have brains that match the gender they identify with and not their assigned sex at birth.
Just another tip for stained cups: take a small jar, just big enough to hold your cup, fill with water and hydrogen peroxide 1:1 and keep your cup in there when not in use. My cup is 8yo now but looks like I just got it out of the box. Hope this helps someone ;) Thanks for the wonderful video !
I can't believe i watched a dozen b.s. pointless reviews before i found this...i swear this video should be a requirement for using a menstrual cup. Thank you so much, seriously! Your candid honesty is exactly what i needed to get my brain wrapped around this.
Literally just tried putting my cup in for the first time, I’m so scared and feel so alone I have no one to talk to but listening to your videos about all this is making me feel so much better
I appreciated you using gender neutral terminology SO much! I think we often forget that not everyone who menstruates is a woman and it feels very good to be included like that!
Been using a menstrual cup for 3 years and have had a lovely experience with it and getting to know my body more. I love your videos and zero-waste advice
You keep saying this video is TMI but honestly it’s one of the most REAL videos out here, thank you for all the insight and help you’re a real sweetheart 💗
Just saying if your bored and can watching something like this ... You get points. Lol been with my man 10 years and he still acts like a child about my period 🙄 lol
So good of you to put this out. The first time I used a cup I spent 20 mins trying to get it out!! I thought it was up there forever! I've also begun to learn how different all women are. I actually find bowel movements not a problem at all as my cervix is really high (only just learned this after years of using the cup!). Thank you :) And I almost always change mine in the shower as I'm a pretty sporty person so it just makes sense and makes less mess :)
Thank you for this! I was sure I would have a traumatizing first experience but it has been smooth sailing so far!:) I’m on my third day using a cup and it’s overwhelmingly comfortable. I find tampons extremely painful and dry, and these are so nice in comparison. The only issues I had at first were getting my cup to open inside me, but I found that it pops open by itself once I stand up and wiggle around a little bit lol. I’ve worn pads my whole period life (cause tampons hurt) and I found the amount of blood you have to deal with alongside period symptoms to really make me feel awful during my period. I’ve had no leaks, there are no smells, and I don’t even feel the cup! I kinda do if I laugh or do something that makes my muscles clench, but it isn’t uncomfortable or anything. This really is a game changer. I wish I’d been brave enough to try them sooner. I bought period undies for extra protection incase I leaked during the “learning curve” but I have not. I still recommend getting some though. They’re super comfortable and you can never go wrong with extra protection. I probably wouldn’t wear them by themselves but holy shit, I highly recommend them with another menstrual product of your choice. I sleep soundly knowing I won’t wake up with stained sheets. Also, I am able to go to the bathroom just fine. Both bowel movement and urinating.... I found that the cup won’t actually come out, it just feels as like it would.
Super good video! One good tip also for getting the vacuum holes clean is to fill the cup with water and turn it upside down on the palm of your hand and squueze from the top. The pressure will forse the water to come out of the holes and clean them easily
I literally almost cried because I had the worst first cup experience and I ran to TH-cam for help. Thank you! You just covered it all. I still don’t know if I’m going to end up using a hard cup. I’ve been using soft cups for 10 years and love them but hate the waste created by them. After watching this I’m willing to give it another try.
Good tips! I've had my Diva cup for almost 4 years now, and I love it. The way I keep mine looking new, is after every period I wash the cup with soap and water, and place it in direct sunlight (my windowsill) for 3 days to a week. After that, the cup looks almost brand new. I didn't know about the cold water, and so next time I'll try that and perhaps it'll help with the staining when I'm into the 3rd day of my cycle.
To clear cup holes: fill the cup with water, cover the top with your one hand, squeeze the cup base w the other hand. The water will come out through the tiny holes cleaning them
Just tried one for the first time and I highly recommend it! I have an extremely heavy flow (I fill a 40ml cup every 8 hours or less during the first two days of my period) and using the cup I don’t bleed through at ALL. it is a learning curve and was difficult to figure out insertion/ taking out but after watching videos - I was able to figure it out easily. Before I was using three tampons and three overnight pads just across a single day but this cup lasts all day without bleeding through because of how well it seals. It’s also a lot more convenient because you can wear it for up to 12 hours just make sure to disinfect and boil frequently. All in all - highly recommend esp for those with a heavy flow
omg you just made me feel so relieved!!! My cup'never unfolds completely and I thought I was doing something wrong and couldn't find any information regarding that issue so thank you!!!
Don't worry about tmi, it's a video on menstrual cups, it's a given to be "tmi". ;) As for the holes, I clean them by folding the cup so that the hole is folded in half, then inserting it under a water stream. Usually the shower but sink faucet is fine. I do that for every hole and it comes out clean with minimal effort. Granted my cup is relatively soft so easy to fold, idk about harder cups.
Thank you so much for making this video!!! I have a heavy flow and the cost of period products is very high for how much I use (probably about 10 to 20 dollars per month) I wanted to switch to a cup to save myself some money as well as to make it longer between switches. Working with a heavy flow is a nightmare, I had to change both my tampon and pad at least once every hour, hour and a half, so this will make a huge difference of buying me a little more time out of the bathroom! Talking about taking it out and experimenting with inserting it made it so much easy for my trying it out my first time so thank you so much!!!!!
Maybe TMI but; I'm so glad I found this video as I just started my menstrual cup journey yesterday! I will say it was really uncomfortable and at time painful as the stem was digging into my flesh. I have now learnt that my vaginal cavity is geared a little to the left, and angles my cup's stem into my right labia really painfully. I'm so glad to hear its okay for me to cut the stem a bit to make it fit me better!!
Thank you so much for everything! Especially the honesty. And it's not TMI, it's completely normal and we as human beings shouldn't be ashamed of anyyyything relating to us and our bodies. Good luck
😂 Love the poop- mention 😂 just know it doesn’t have to be like that for everyone - I’ve never had any problem going with the cup in - but a good thing to be aware of ☺️
thank you for your usage of gender inclusive language. as a non-binary person who menstruates I often feel alienated by women only language around periods. I appreciate you!
OMG, thank you. I'm 36 and trying this for the first time and I feel like a teenager again. Menstruation is a normal body function, necessary for the propagation of the human species, so attaching shame to that seems stupid to me. So you are not only being informative, but you are fighting the stigma attached to talking about this subject.
Had my first experience with menstrual cups when I was going on vacation and needed to wear a bathing suit. It was a game changer! I was impressed and since I advocate women to try it. I did buy gloves to use for inserting the cup and for removal and I do carry gloves with me.
I have found that Hydrin peroxide gets rid of the staining. It also is a sanitizer. I would not recommend you use it while on your period but that’s how I clean my cup after and it works great for me.
Oooh the cervix thing explains so MUCH. I've been using cups for almost a year now and although I knew lots of things you mentioned, I've also learned a lot. Thank you for talking about it!
Love the stain acceptance! I recommend these type of cups to every woman over disposable products, but I also recommend now they buy a colored one! I bought a clear one and it’s definitely not the prettiest thing! But, I love using it and will never go back!
Thank you so much for posting these kinds of videos. I have been trying to research the diva cup here in the US for the longest time. But couldn't find anyone who would be as honest and candid about menstrual cups. I'm honestly terrified to use them. But at least now I'm comfortable with the idea by watching your videos. Thank you so much!
I have been using a cup for almost 2 years and now randomly came across this video. This is really helpfull for people considering/starting to use cups and thank you for helping me understand why the hell my cup isn't stained. Also, having a bidet is the best thing ever when you use a cup. You can just sit on the toilet and wash the cup in the bidet next to you without barelly moving. In the need of using public bathrooms: wash hands before + water wipes to clean the cup before putting it back in.
As far as staining, get a small cup and do about a 50/50 mix of water and hydrogen peroxide. Keep it submerged for like a day-ish and your stains should go away almost completely. It helps if you can put the soaking cup in the sun, but if you don't want others to see it, of course you can hide it in a cabinet or something. :) This will also help to keep the vacuum holes clean, but you can also take a needle and carefully poke at the debris.
The first time I used a menstrual cup my mom had to remove it for me LOL. However, with more practice it has become one of my favourite menstrual products alongside reusable cloth pads. I found the diva cup was too long and too firm for me but the smallest/softest duchess cup works perfectly with my anatomy!
The staining can also smell, cold water doesn't prevent it all off the time due to the cup being in your warm body and having blood in it. You can do a 50/50 mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide the residential strength. Leave in a small container for 12 hours and rinse and store. Works great and remove the smell and stains.
I've been using the ruby cup for a few years and I had no idea that the clogging of the holes might have been causing me to not have a good seal. Thank you so much!!!
One thing I'd like to add re: stem adjustment is that it's also totally ok to cut the whole stem off if it's uncomfortable. You will not lose the cup up in there, and most brands have ridges around the base so you can easily grip it and release the vacuum without needing the stem. I've been using my Organicup for a couple of years this way and it's great.
Top tip- I have a really heavy flow the first few days but have to use a smaller cup which means I need to empty it more often, for example in school when other people are using the sink. Now where I live tap water is safe to drink so I feel ok doing this, if you are in a pinch, when you flush the toilet use the water coming down on the sides to rinse out your cup squeeze it quickly fill it and empty it a couple of times and make sure to dry it well after you are done :)
Yes to the cup! I imagine that it doesn't work the same for everyone. I've heard some girls say that they can't wash their own blood or even look at it. I am happy I don't feel this way about my body fluids. I was so worried at the beginning, but 2.5 years later it takes me 2 seconds to insert/remove it. Best Thing Ever!
This video was a while ago, but I really really appreciate you saying "people who menstruate". Some people think it's stupid, but I am a trans man and periods are incredibly distressing to me, so having my identity and struggles validated at the same time is really lovely. Thank you so much!!
I used a menstrual cup for the first time today and it has been a great experience. I'm already loving it. P.S: That black menstrual cup of yours calls out to my inner shadowhunter 😍😍

Absolutely lost my first cup on day two (first cycle of using said cup), to an automatic flushing toilet at work. Wish I had seen this video earlier. Thank for sharing all this very useful information!
When I used a tampon, I had to change it every hour or it would leak. A lot of the time I had to wear a pad too. I started using a blossom cup and I love how I can go longer before emptying it.

Sara Drue Wow, I never thought about traveling! Good to know.
Sara Drue will the pressure changes affect it while i freedive?
Ok. So what are we supposed to do about it?

A tip for using the cup in public restroom stalls - wash your hands BEFORE you enter the stall - then you can remove the cup, empty into toilet bowl, wipe with toilet tissue and reinsert without a rinse if need be. Your hands were clean so you’re only putting something back that was already inside you - not ideal but much better than same scenario with unwashed hands.
Everyone should always wash their hands before and after using public bathrooms. I rarely ever see anyone do that.
But won’t the toilet paper have a ton of bacteria on it? I saw this article once on how germs just stick to the surface of it
Sofia H. Would you use the paper to wipe yourself? If not, use whatever you have brought to use instead. Me, I just use the paper offered.
I bring a bottle of water with me, so I can clean my cup up. To wash your hands before is obvious.
I do the same.
Thank you for your tips.I've heard of this cup just today and I just order it on amazon. I hope I find it comfortable as I did with the tampons.

My main tip for everyone is always, ‘try to use a single stall bathroom where you can reach the sink from the toilet’
I'm always scared to take it out in a public washroom because like how do I clean it before putting it back in?
Sarah Folland maybe try using period panties when going out? I haven’t got a pair myself, but I’ve heard a lot good things about them
@@sarahfolland8833 No need.

Quick note: her second to last tip when she talks about “length of cervix”, she means the length of the vaginal canal! Two different body parts: canal is the tube from the outside to the uterus. The cervix is the entrance to the uterus. Hope this helps!
She probably meant height of the cervix. in the sense of a higher up or lower down position in the vagina.
I was thinking she meant when your cervix drops or raises depending on where you are in your cycle. For me, my cervix drops really low (had no idea until I started using the cup) so I have to be sure it sits in the cup when I insert it to avoid excess leakage
@natalyagoode2237 yes that's what she's talking about.
I soak my cup in hydrogen peroxide at the end of every period. I’ve had it for years and it looks new. It can also remove cup stains.
@skye Yes its safe to do this. If you're not sure I give it a rinse afterwards aswell
YES!!! This is my top tip for removing stains from my menstrual cup!
I flick mine with my finger to "jolt" the cup and clear the holes before I insert it.
Also Skye's suggestion is a good one.
Sharon Cusack thank you so much. I always give up in the start and when I’m lazy I don’t use it at all
Sharon Cusack 😱this makes my past struggles make so much more sense! Thank you!
That makes so much sense. My first cycle with a menstrual cup I thought it would be easier to wait until after my heaviest day to try it. It took 20 minutes in the shower struggling to get it in. My most recent cycle I put it in as soon as I started and it went right in.
Thank you I'll try it
I literally cannot poop with a tampon in. I push them out everytime. it's insane lol. that's another reason why cups appeal to me - I won't have just put in a fresh tampon then need to poop five minutes later and have to pull out a dry tampon, which is THE most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced and I HATE it.
Hey, I'm not a doctor, but that might be something to talk with a gyno about because it could potentially be a sign for complications later
I have the same problem. too strong of muscles
I have that problem too, but I also have Cystic Fibrosis and cough a lot. The coughing pushes out tampons as well, so that's why I have always wanted to try a cup. And I hate wearing pads.

I've had a menstrual cup for 6 months now and I empty mine every 3 or 4 hours due to heavy bleeding but wayy better than smelly pads
I also have to empty mine every 4h but only on 2nd day, other days it can stay like for 12 hours and still is not full so im in love with it
My 2 heaviest days I have to empty it every 2-3 hours but the other days it's morning and evening. So much more convenient/clean/pleasant than pads, and healthier and less irritating than tampons.

Hope this helps someone ;)

I found that the cup won’t actually come out, it just feels as like it would.
i'm so glad you made this! i've been so scared to use it because i thought there was something wrong, but it's just a learning curve
Thank you for your frankness. I spent my entire youth not knowing that this was even an option. I want all young women to know and have choices!
Your eyebrows are goals! And thank you for the video
I loved how you said “menustrating person” instead of “a woman” to be inclusive to everyone ☺️
Elissa Pragman hi some trans men and non-binary menstruate too, their existence is valid
s S trans men and non-binary people tho
But only women menstruate😩
A Rashad nope
Gittemary Johansen men do? I had no idea.
Don't worry about tmi, it's a video on menstrual cups, it's a given to be "tmi". ;)
As for the holes, I clean them by folding the cup so that the hole is folded in half, then inserting it under a water stream.
Maybe TMI but;
I'm so glad I found this video as I just started my menstrual cup journey yesterday!
Good luck
Thanks for letting me know what it's like. I know that this video is 2 years old but it really helps me as a new user. Thanks for being honest!
😂 Love the poop- mention 😂 just know it doesn’t have to be like that for everyone - I’ve never had any problem going with the cup in - but a good thing to be aware of ☺️
I have problems sometimes and before I made a conection it can be caused by the cup it was so annoying x) so its great to know anyway!
Alquana I was so confused why the cup was literally half way out my body while I was doing this, like I didnt even notice wow
thank you for your usage of gender inclusive language. as a non-binary person who menstruates I often feel alienated by women only language around periods.
*Hydrogen
what about bile soap?
Neumím se odhlašovat ve třináctce. Avoid soaps unless they are adult toy cleaners as those are body safe.
You should soak your cup in a little bit of hydrogen peroxide and water. The stains should come right off. And then wash like normal. 😁
@Prince Chamberlain ok. I'm going to watch a few more of your videos. I'm also nervous about the size. A tampon and cup are too different things...lol
@Prince Chamberlain oh boy! Thank you. I will definitely take note of that
I have been using a cup for almost 2 years and now randomly came across this video.
I've just bought a cup for the first time, so this was very useful to me.
This video was a while ago, but I really really appreciate you saying "people who menstruate". Some people think it's stupid, but I am a trans man and periods are incredibly distressing to me, so having my identity and struggles validated at the same time is really lovely. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for openly talking about this topic and giving really useful tips!!
also, if there's any trans guys watching this, I had one of these before I started T and it's a life saver, honestly. it helps dysphoria so much.
❤️❤️❤️
I used a menstrual cup for the first time today and it has been a great experience. I'm already loving it.
P.S: That black menstrual cup of yours calls out to my inner shadowhunter 😍😍
Menstrual cup has CHANGED MY LIFE.
Due to vaginismus which I haven't been able to do anything about at the moment, I can't use one of these. But I do have reusable pads, which are a GODSEND.
Ooooh, I've never heard of reusable pads! Where did you get them?
@@MedicFromTF2_REAL Amazon. It's obviously not the greatest company to buy them from, but there are 20 in a pack for 10 quid and I only bought them once.
Where do you buy the reusable pads. I'd like to help girls in Zambia Africa and distribute reusable pads. Was thinking of cups but the concept is unheard of in Africa. I'll introduce this slowly. Please share link of the pads you got.
@@dinakadina3164 You can get them on amazon its not a great company to support but for each person you only have to buy so many once and i think trying to boycott them for something like this is a little elitist and gives the eco community a look like its only for the rich or those who can afford to go green. It works out as 1.77 british pounds per pad. www.amazon.co.uk/Menstrual-Washable-Sanitary-Enstrual-Postpartum/dp/B06ZYG8CNC/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=reusable+sanitary+pads&qid=1590875742&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNDVSWVAxMDdDMTNXJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzE5MTg4MTRJQUpWTjBVTzhUTiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMzAzMzI3QlpDUTFUVjMwMVFNJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
@@clarinamascarenhas7499 Thanks for quick reply 💕
I swear this is the most informative video I have seen on menstrual cups.
I use hydrogen peroxide and water to get stains off my cups. Just soak them for 4+ hours. Works to remove the stains every time.
Just started with my cup. I realized it’s easier to insert it standing up but easier to take it out sitting down! Definitely try different positions!
Hey can you tell me more I'm just 16 and I'm afraid of using one
Thank you so much for talking about this, I just got my first cup and these tips really helped ❤
Try starting over a weekend when you can be at home, as no shower as needed. I also like period proof panties for back up. I found a nail brush a necessary addition for my hands obv. Read Amazon reviews and find one that suits your age, and stage of life. Some are smaller for young girls. Some are larger for those who have had babies. Some get better reviews. Try a few different styles, and find one that works for you. It's worth the effort. I use mine best on lighter days. My heavy days require an Ultra Tampon and are no joke
thankyou, your tips actually helped me a lot. me and my friend are considering switching to a cup and your tips weren't things I came across in the internet. Thanks again! ❤️
I've had a really hard time with them in the past so I really appreciate this video! Thank you!!!
I dream of a day when we can talk about caring for ones menstrual cycle as simply as we do our teeth. It saddens me that so many have an adverse reaction to the discussion of natural body processes. Its nothing to shy from.
*** Thank you for talking so candidly. Love your videos!!!
I love that she said "people that menstruate" its so inclusive
Omg! Thank you for mentioning the pressure when going through the bathroom! I wore my cup for the first time ever today! And that was the issue haha. I went just fine, but it made it so much more difficult. My body didn't want to push like normal. D:
In Vietnam there aren't much informations about period cup so your video is exactly what i'm looking for. THANK YOU 😍
I use one of those interdental brushes for the little holes. I have one specifically for my cups. Great video!
