Anthony, are you a parent? my guess is no... being able to give advice even good advice doesn't make a good parent. the one thing I have learned about being a parent that I wasn't prepared for, which I think no one is, is patience. children test your patience in every aspect, and they strain the bond you have with the other parent. The thing I personally think is key to being a good parent is providing the child with the ability to think and reason and decide for themselves.

robert edmond did you not have any younger siblings?
Because it’s very easy to find out that children test your patience:)
But you do have a good point about advice, children don’t care about your advice until at least tenish

Have you noticed any differences in the people you're attracted to/have sexual chemistry with? I've heard that the pill can often change that for people and I've always found it really fascinating!

Karen Mae I found that my libido shot up when I stopped my contraceptive patch, really think the contraception had made a huge difference! My friend did a dissertation on this and apparently it is a thing! x

Karen Mae yes. I recently tried contraception just for a month because I couldn't take it. It was mini pill. My libido turned to zero, I didn't really like how my boyfriend smelled, didn't want to be touched, extremely emotional and depressed about nothing, migraines, weight gain. All the possible side effects.
Now I'm back to normal and I just adore his body, the way he smells, everything. I have experienced it once before too. It really is a thing!

Two words Hannah, - completely honest. Thats what makes this series so worthy of note. In my opinion they should be compulsory viewing for all ten and eleven year olds, both girls and boys to prepare them for the physical and emotional changes to come, and to encourage them to speak openly to their peers and elders.

When I turned 18, like almost exactly, I started having that need to have kids. I always wanted to be a mom, but I always planned on adopting because the whole 9 months + labor thing was a big ol' nope for me. But for two years now everytime I see a baby my mind and heart scream that I need to have one of those asap. It's so strange.

I've never clicked on a video as quick as I have for this one! This series is probably my favourite series on TH-cam! I've had a history with the pill and coming off it and going back on it and back off it again (for hormone reasons... not pregnancy/contraceptive stuff), so to hear someone talk about it as open as you are is such an inspiration! Thank you Hannah xo

I've been on the pill for nearly two years to help manage my endometriosis, and I still get super broody! This series is fantastic. Whilst I won't be able to come off of hormonal contraception in the foreseeable future, it's great to see you map this all out 💕

Your videos are actually so amazing. I wish I'd discovered them when I was 13 (I'm now 18) but I know that if I ever have a daughter I want to show her your videos when she's old enough. It's so nice to normalise a woman's natural bodily 'mechanics' the changes that happen make you think you're dying when you're like 12 and no one has really spoke to you about anything. And with the broody thing I'm like you, broody since I was so young I loved to be around babies. Still haven't gotten out of that phase so in September I'm becoming a Nanny! (Looking after other people's babies so I don't have to have my own just yet) ;)

Romance.... is just chemical stimulation.... What is happiness. What is love. Is there purpose? Is the compulsion to breed why people overlook negative relationships. Why did this video spark an existential crisis.

I'm not sure, I don't have Hannah's child-desire. I like kids, but the world is shitty, and I've seen friends lose their kids, and I don't want to overpopulate the globe, and I don't want to be a slave, and I don't need a quarter million of expenses....

The down mood is something I definitely do not miss since going on the pill. With my irregular cycle I wouldn't have a clue when it was meant to start but the night before it would start I would go into full meltdown mode and instantly think it was my depression taking over and I would resign myself to have a few miserable months ahead and then I would wake up and feel fine once it started. Hormones are so odd when you think about how much they rule your life.

I can't believe it's already been six months! I've been loving this series.
My sister had a lot of the same period issues you're experiencing (boobs hurting and a really long, irregular cycle). She read this book called The Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden, which I've read as well, it's all about natural ways to help fix different menstrual problems. I know one thing she started doing after reading it was take a Vitex supplement and her period has already started becoming more and more regular, so you might want to check that out.

I hit the baby stage from age 21-23 and it usually involved me crying over diaper commercials, having dreams of my babies being stolen from me, and overwhelmingly being drawn to cute babies in the grocery store. I'm now 28, clean and sober, and have little desire to be around children. Hormones are freakin weiiiiirrrd. Edit: I also remember when I was in my 'i want a baby stage' that the sound of one crying would cause me to panic??? like, _oh my god, there's a baby in need! I must find them!_ And now it's just like, _Well that's annoying._
Also: the breast pain can sometimes be linked to coffee/chocolate/caffeine intake. That might just be in my family, but I've had to cut down on those because my breasts would ache to the point of tears. I also found if I ate dark chocolate my mood swings would be insane when I was PMSing.

    • @MrNicoJac
      @MrNicoJac 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

when you say 28 clean and sober, you mean of hormonal contraception right? nothing more sinister.....?
also: if you consume much caffeine/choco, try drinking half a glass of water before it?
I'm curious to see if it makes you feel different :)

For guys this thing (baby, family, etc) comes at around the age of 28-30 (where I am at now). Suddenly you are transformed and view caring for a family or kids as something you want to do. For us, when we are younger, showing off our drinking skills, other crude stuff is how we want to express ourselves. But when we hit that age, we now want to show off our abilities by taking care of people, be it family, wife, partner, love interest, kids, what have you.It makes us feel manly when women allow us to do stuff for them (feminists take note). So its interesting to see how you transition from being a girl to a woman.
I think having these conversations is one great thing about the internet, it has allowed people to talk about things which they otherwise would not. cheers.

Elisa Benaggoune I've started using menstrual cups four months ago because I got sick of pads and tampons scared me as well (you hear so much bad things about them and I just didn't want to risk anything). It took me three cycles to get used to menstrual cups and at first it was quite scary to put it in but after figuring out a good fold (I can recommend the origami fold because then the cup is the same size as a tampon) I slowly got used to it. For the first two cycles I only wore the cup when I was at home because since I hadn't quite figured everything out yet it was leaking a bit, but since the third cycle I can just put it in in the morning, forget about it during the day and then take it out, empty it and put it back in in the evening. I'm really happy with it now! The most important thing is to not stress yourself, if you have to take a break from trying to get it in just use a pad and try again the next day. Good luck!

I came off my pill not long after you. Watching your videos encouraged me to do it, as I'd been thinking about it for a while. You were my canary down the mine so to speak! I've definitely been a lot more emotional! I can have a bit of a temper on me now, and I've lost how many times I've cried over something stupid, and I totally get what you mean about the broodiness!! Babies always made me squirm and physically recoil in horror before (that sounds awful, but it's true), but now I just want to hold and cuddle every baby I see!! That's about the only changes I've noticed though

Hi Hannah! I love watching your videos and hearing/learning about these things! Well, I'm 25 and have always had super irregular periods, so ever since I was about 15 I've been on and off the pill, but a very low dose of estrogen. It worked fairly well at regulating my period, but then in college I did some traveling and didn't exactly know how I'd be able to stock up on several month's worth of the birth control, so I went off of the pill. It was during this time, in London actually, I was diagnosed with cystic ovarian syndrome, which is really common. I dealt somehow with my crazy periods for like 3 years, and then a year and a half ago I got back on the birth control, but after 8 or so months it wasn't able to regulate it any longer. SO, they increased the dosage of estrogen, BUT then I had lots of mood issues, so I quit the pill cold turkey. After 4 or so months of being on nothing and my period being super irregular and heavy, I did some research and talked to my gynecologist and got an IUD put in about a month ago! The IUD should make my periods lighter and shorter, but I've also experienced cramps for the first time in my life now that I have the IUD (which I didn't really expect) and I've also had really sensitive and painful boobs and nipples in the days leading up to when I got my first period since the IUD. I've never experienced either of those things, so it feels all pretty crazy, but I actually learned from you from a different video that boobs hurting is a sign of an upcoming period! It's embarrassing to me that I never knew that before, but for 10+ years I've never had negative side effects from periods! --other than 2+ week long periods that are heavy basically the whole time. Haha thanks for making me feel normal!

I am one of those persons that really wants to have babies before I'm 30 too, but whenever I talk about this with my friends they all react like I'm completely crazy. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who really wants kids early!

awesomeabnormality I had the same but honestly just stop, there's no other way. Just trash your scale. And never ever touch one again, ask doctors to not tell you your weight, little things but with time you will forget that those numbers are existing, 6 years ago for me, but I still can't hear my weight. I am very relieved.. Very thankful too that Hannah didnt talk about numbers. VERY THANKFUL ❤

I went on the pill around 6 months ago after discovering I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I've always been very slim, but I gained a few kilos after going on the pill. I rarely weigh myself, but like you I was shocked that I was the heaviest I've ever been. I was weighing myself a lot that week, but have since stopped for my mental health/body confidence and have been trying to focus on making healthier choices instead of a number on a scale.

This video makes me feel SO much better about what I've been thinking. For a while I though I was being crazy but I'm 25 and I'm having literal baby fever. I feel like it's an age thing because like you I never really thought about it seriously until (also like you I knew I wanted kids before 30 but wasn't honestly spending time worrying about it) now and now I'm like kids kids kids!! It also probably doesn't help that my sister is pregnant right now and my aunt is adopting a baby so my life at the moment is literally kids kids kids haha.

Hello Hannah! Just found your channel and I love it. This is really interesting because last year I came off the same pill you were on, after years on it. I've noticed some of these effects - deeeefinitely the broodiness, and I'm actually quite intrigued by your feelings about needing a boyfriend and things... I am in a relationship and moved in with my boyfriend a few months after coming off the pill (this was always planned, not just hormone brain) but I definitely did spend a month or so looking at wedding videos on TH-cam in private... I was SO READY for commitment. So there's that. I hadn't even thought about that being a change in my hormones making me think differently about stuff. Anyway, thanks for this series, I've hit the subscribe button :)

6 months ago I remember "young" Hannah talking about how she was scared about having feelings like she wanted a real relationship... It's cool seeing you accept the way you feel about it. Medically speaking, the erratic cycles are common after coming off the pill, the boob pain *sometimes* will lessen over time as you body acclimates to a new normal (without the pill) and usually later on, the cramps *can* get less severe but it does take time... With the gaining weight, could definitely be related to the pill, but that usually doesn't get any *better* over time. If you start gaining weight when you're off the pill it may taper to a number of lbs (or kgs) but that may become your new "normal." Then exercise etc. becomes very important, especially with the boob stuff. And just make sure to take care of your back (with your boob issue)! God speed!

I've also come off the pill. I think it's been about 3 months. My periods have been regular ever since and the only big difference that I notice is that I just feel so much happier. I've been feeling down for a while and it seems to have gotten way better since I came off the pill. I'm still not feeling great, but not as bad as I used to so that's awesome.

Its really nice that you can talk about this as it makes you go crazy and its not something you can talk to people about as they don't really understand.

This is definitely one of my favorite series you've done just because I feel I can relate a lot.(though I've never been on birth control) I also get many of the same symptoms of a period as well as we have similar body types ( shorter and big chested) which I feel is possibly why we get that achy feeling right before our periods. I am really interested to know what you think of the menstrual cup!

Danyel VT but still, you spend more energy when you're on your period so you need to eat more. it's probably hormones and if so, it should naturally go back to normal after a while.

+Danyel VT Broody means an animal or woman is feeling quite maternal, that she craves a family. I think it comes from when people talk about chickens and hens and they say "the hen's been broody recently," meaning she's been sitting on a clutch of eggs for a while and it trying to incubate them, and when they say "a hen and her brood," meaning her chicks. Idk if that helps or if that was unnecessarily longwinded and confusing.

Thank you for creating the hormone diaries hannah. I was put on the pill in my mid teens by my doctor as I was in excruciating pain 3 out of 4 weeks. But I have always been told that I have to have periods. Now I'm struggling with depression and anxiety and am unable to work and once again my my periods are coursing a major problem. But thanks to your video's I now have the confidence to talk about changing my meds with my doctor. Thank you! 💓💊💓

YES!! Yes, yes, yes!! yes to everything about this video. Due to a health condition I came off of birth control after basically being on it my entire menstrual life. It has been challenging not knowing what my body is doing and not having the control over it and my emotions that I once had!! i too am at my heaviest at try not to let it bother me but when my clothes no longer fit it is quite difficult!!

Same with cramps on the first day! I'm pretty sure it happens because the endometrium is starting to break and separate from the wall of the uterus, and then it gets less painful because the main breaking is already done. I'm loving the series by the way! Keep it coming ;)

I feel a lot more emotionally stable since coming off the pill 4 months ago. My periods used to be quite unpredictable before I started the pill when I was 17, but that was because I'd only had them for about a year at that point. Now I can see my body settling into a cycle, it's quite nice! My system is still working out the kinks, but I feel a lot more in touch with my body in general. I'm enjoying having my period!

I have never been on the pill but similarly i have really long cycles and my boobs hurt too but not as bad. The off days make sense and i think they probably are linked, i usually have one day where i just cry over the most ridiculous things. I love that this is a great space for us to discuss periods free of stigma and taboo.

I've come off the pill in November... still no period. At first I naturally freaked, did a few pregnancy tests, but I'm clear.
December tho, man what a roller coaster. Cried all the time (I never had such mood swings... COULD BE externally motivated or just me overreacting due to being hormonal... eh?) and I did notice a tiny bit of weight gain. But after the first shock, I recovered pretty fast (at least mentally lol, I managed to pull myself together ;D).
But can I just say how HAPPY I am to have someone talk about this in such detail on youtube, it's frankly such a relief to have someone sharing their experience in such a way! My friends are a bit more reserved about these things so I just craaaaave this kind of conversation ♥ Thanks Hannah, I'm so happy to have discovered you
