Love the video I’m so happy you’re trying these out! Just a note to say you can actually use cups for up to 10 years, but also when removing it make sure you squeeze the bottom of the cup before you pull to break the seal it creates which makes it leak-proof. Not doing this can cause a bit of discomfort and can be dangerous if you have an iud/coil :) also if you have to change it in a public toilet, you can just clean it in the cubicle with toilet paper and it’s fine to put back in but normally as you can leave it in so long there’s no need to change it when you’re out and about!
Breaking the suction of the cup is very important. You do that by squishing the bottom of the cup while removal. Or it will cause discomfort and pain. Never yank it out without breaking the seal.
When you’re trying to get a cup out, make sure you squeeze the sides slightly to break the suction, then it will come out really easily! When I first started using cups a long time ago now I read somewhere that if you just pull on the stem without breaking the suction it can harm your muscles😩
@@ThePtree try to put a finger up in there to relieve the suction and then pull it out like that, if it is still painful then maybe change the size of cup into a smaller one or if the pain still continues then get it checked out, it may be more than just the cup that’s making you feel the pain.
@@ThePtree I had that problem specially as a teen who hasn't even used tampons, and i definitely struggled a lot, the ways people were telling me to get it out didn't really work that great and it hurt like hell because the opening of the cup was always too big. I love mines! I could never go back to tampons. Thank you Flo for talking about this 💜 The first time I used mines was a disaster but don’t let that put you off, it’s so much better once you get used to it! I love how you can put in it for up to 12 hours and not have to empty it, I’ve never had to empty it in a public bathroom 😊
Yesss😍agreed! Thank you so much for watching!!! tbh since you can leave it in for 12 hours, just change it out just before you leave for wherever you’re going where you might need to use a public bathroom and you’ll be fine!
Thank you for doing a review as a young lady. I am researching safe hygiene products for my daughter. I’ve got maybe a year or two before she becomes a young lady and I definitely want to have a good variety of healthy options for her to try. I use cloth pads but don’t want to push that on her.
If anybody is wanting to try out a cup I’d also recommend getting some period pants too and then you don’t have to use pads if your worried about leaking/not getting the cup in the right place. And when your on your period find if you have a low or high cervix, which will also help to find the right cup for you. And you want to break the seal before pulling the cup out! It can also take a couple of months to get use to using the cup.
Yes periods should be normalised and not considered shameful at all I had heard someone said that if MENSTRUATION was a Man's Process it would have been celebrated ....
The public bathroom thing, when I first started using a cup I had to empty it on a hike with my family and there was only a public bathroom with the most inconvenient set out ever, it had a door that would automatically open after 15 minutes to deter people having sex in the bathrooms. Most stressful experience trying to get the cup out and in in public with the looming threat of the door opening at any second.
I'm not sure if anyone has said this already, but in order to remove a cup you need to break the seal and you cannot/should not just be pulling it downward to get it out. to break the seal, squeeze the cup just above the stem where you can feel it react to the squeeze and then pull down.
8:26 i hope yall arent pulling it straight out without breaking the suction 😭 you have to break the suction first by pinching the base or squeezing the rim and _then_ pulling it out
if you remove it this way, it'll be a lot less messy i promise. blood won't be all over your hand and toilet since it'll mostly just be inside the cup still
I would like to try these menstrual cups as I love how these are SO much better for the environment but the scary part is defo having it in a public bathroom and needing to wash it. Not exactly ideal, but regardless its such a clever idea and I'm so happy you couldn't feel it once it was in, as the thought of feeling the menstrual cup makes me feel sick. Thank you so much for sharing this Flo it was really helpful 😊 x Isobel celine x
Aw angel! Tbh I don’t think it would be too bad, you can also get portable cleaners for it or you could carry around a spare water bottle for it you’re out and about!
actually if you're emptying in a public toilet, you can just wash your hands then remove it, empty, and reinsert it right after! you can also bring a clean water bottle if you wanna wash off some of the blood before reinserting. i've been using a cup for more than a year now and i've never had to change it outside since it can hold up to 12 hours of blood
If you think the lily cup one is big you should see the merula cup xl! I have both cups, the merula for heavy flow and lily cup one for light flow. When you get the merula cup in the right place you can't feel it though. Cups get easier to insert and exert as you practice. The lily cup one i think is one of the smallest cups and merula is one of the biggest but they are great for different times during your period, I would recommend them both. Absolutely 💯% changed my life :)
The lily cup one is great! The only problem for me was low capacity, so I switched to menstrual disc. I got the ziggy disc and the capacity is amazing.
Do NOT just pull the cups out. Reach up and pinch the bottom (above the stem if slick) to grab. Bear down (push), slide finger up side of the cup to push in the cup breaking the suction. Remove. You can hurt yourself by just removing like a tampon.
I’m so glad you’ve done this video. I’d really like to try one because of the waste from all the wrappers, the price etc. But I’m scared af. I’ve heard so many stories about them getting stuck :/
If it doesn’t come out you just have to push a little bit at the side of the actual cup because there’s a vacuum that keeps the cup staying in its position :)
It cannot go anywhere. Worst case scenario is that your very tense and you need to go to the gyno. But other than that, you need to learn whats comfortable for you. My first time using them, I spent about 10 minutes having a war with trying to get the cup out. It comes out eventually because it was my first time. Now it is much easier to use. Its really just learning to adapt to using and removing
There's a learning curve NGL, I'm still figuring it out. I'm using the lily cup one and it's super convenient. it doesn't leak and it's comfortable, but I'm still learning how to quickly get it out.

I tried this cup but I just can not get it in high enough or pop open properly. Then when I go to take it out I can't fit my fingers in to break the suction so it hurts to take out. I am determined to make it work though it definitely is not as straight forward as a tampon.

I'm a virgin and using menstrual cup for almost a year
Ahhh another cringe person😂
Actually menstrual cups last up to 10 years! For more tips go to "period nirvana" she's awesome! And yes you are supposed to sterilize it by boiling it for like 10 minutes 😬 and your not supposed to pull it you have to wiggle from side the side and then slowly pull.
