I appreciate you so much for taking the time to watch my first retrospective! My goal is to make each video better than the previous one. Please feel free to let me know what game you would like to see me review next, and don't be shy to point out any ways that I can improve upon my next review!
Hey, first time viewer and I thought this was a great video. I thought some of the pauses between thoughts were a little awkwardly long and find the constant side camera view a bit awkward since you're not even looking towards the camera, but I think you're doing a good job. I appreciate you asking for feedback and you giving a chance to a game that is so often lambasted as terrible. I mean, it's not good, but it has some redeeming charm to it, I like it
Review Budokai 3, the one with likely the best of the best of dragon ball game soundtracks. Sorry if it sounds mean but please read the script better, it's monotonous here. Spelling's perfect though.
Sagas really was a fun game to play with friends/siblings, I recently replayed it solo and was like “wtf did I see in this game” but then I remembered when I played it as a kid, it was always me and my brother playing it together which at that time was the only DBZ game that let two players play the story mode whereas with the Budokai games, me and him would have to swap out whenever someone lost but this game was fun because of the fact that it was a co-op story mode and the anime cutscenes also were a cool touch
Yeah, well said. It was always a blast playing with friends, even the glitches added to it because most times they would result in something hilarious happening lol. I also just like the game because it’s the only one in its genre
i didnt even know this game was bad until someone told me, as a kid i had so many cool moments with my brothers. this game was meant for the good times with family.
OH I think they did question marks for the scouter because I think a normal scouter only goes so high remember they were designed literally before Goku went SSJ and Frieza didn't think anyone could be stronger than him
Yeah I agree, that’s definitely why. And that makes perfect sense. Just always found it silly that half the game has the scouter function only for it to be irrelevant lol
Sounds like DBZ Sagas is going through its Sonic 06 era. ... I said that half serious but now I genuinely hope there's a "Dragon Ball Z Project-Saga" or something that emerges.
The only reason I still remember this game fondly, aside from nostalgia, was because from what I remember, I think this was one of the first games I ever played. The most fun I remember having with this game was playing it with my brother, and replaying levels with different characters. It was also where I discovered my very first glitch, where if you find a good spot to get enough height you can fly past the invisible walls and fall out of bounds. Example: 9:58 If you keep flying at the corner of the two mountains, you'll slowly start the gain more height, or you'll just clip through. Even though the game is not as good to play nowadays, I can't deny it was definitely a landmark in my childhood.
You make a lot of good points! I do think though, as a huge dbz fan, that this game was refreshing compared to the games we were getting, and to an extent still do, aside from kakarot. Fight raditz, than fight nappa, than fight vegeta etc etc gets boring and repetitive. If this game was longer and had larger maps it would be my dream dbz game
Sagas was pretty great. It had some annoying backtracking mechanics (which I didn't really mind as a kid with infinite time on his hands) but it was a Dragon Ball beat'em up which we haven't seen since. It's the one of the few truly unique Dragon Ball game you can play with friends. I'd love if they tried this idea again some day but they likely won't since games like Xenoverse and Fighterz are way more popular type of games. That being 3D and 2D fighters.

Much appreciated :) Glad you feel the same way. Wish they would try to do something like sagas again, with a more modern take. I feel like it would be amazing
The graphics and music were fantastic and the levels were nice and atmospheric with good attention to detail for what it was. Plus holding X to charge up a Kamehameha/special attack until you released it or it was fully charged felt fantastic. Every DBZ game needs a Kamehameha button
Budokai 2 and Sagas were a couple of my favorite games back when I was a kid! Imagine my disbelief coming back to dragonball games almost 20 years later, just to find out that my top picks were the 'black sheep'. Me and my dad put so many hours into them together- Sagas really shines when you're sharing a couch and playing with a friend. Not a lot of DBZ games had co-op story modes at the time!
Same here man! Or At least, they were both in my Top 5. Honestly though there’s no shame in enjoying any game. Playing sagas with friends is impeccable. So much damn fun
This was actually my first ever Dbz game so if not for this game I would have never gotten really into the anime so I would not call this the worst Dbz game ever.
I know this is old but tell me you play solo without telling me you play solo lol when you play with a friend the super attacks slow down the game and it makes it unplayable with co-op lol
Sagas is fun to 1. Play thru Vanilla & Collect all Items 2.Use the cheats and woob ass with random characters like Broly etc I have a CRT tv now so I really need to re complete Sagas would be like back in the day
I appreciate this video. I enjoy this game, and even picked it back up a few years ago out of nostalgia. Now, I do hate the post-game, cause you really realize how pointless the powerlevels actually are when you're running through Raditz level as Legendary Super Saiyan Broly and you kill everything just as slowly as the first time you went through. I remember even trying to get Gohan to reach SS2 on a bunch of levels and realized it's basically impossible without the main story's mechanics preventing you from harming Cell without being SS2, cause every other way enemies will die to your SS1 form too fast for you to charge up your meter all the way to SS2, especially since you need full ki to transform. Overall, yeah, mechanically, this game could've been better. And the story choices and content could've been WAY better. However, I still have fun with this game and do enjoy some of the little things like weak saibamen going kamikaze on you and either latching on or just running up to you with their heads exploding on you. A real nice touch. I also enjoy how Cell is one of the, if not the only, enemies to despawn with your final attack because you obliterate him, instead of just heavily weakening him, since most of these fights aren't actually battles where the heroes kill the enemies: Raditz gets taken out in a special combo move and not by Goku, Nappa was killed by Vegeta, Recoome, Burter, and Jeice were killed by Vegeta after they fought Goku, Freeza was killed by Trunks, so on and so forth. I wonder if they purposefully removed fights where the heroes killed the bad guys just because of this, so that the final fight would be a little special in this way 🤔
You just blew my mind! Honestly, I would have never thought of that. All the fights removed ended in death of enemies ( dodoria, zarbon, guldo. Very interesting But also.. the vegeta vs android 19 fight is in there and he does kill him
@@mysteriousthirteen Ah, Vegeta vs Android 19 is in it? I forgot about that one. Guess I'm not 100% accurate then, but it is a theory I've always held to.
There is one thing in the three videos I saw from you that drives me insane: The freakin mouse!! Please just put it out of the picture.. I think some emulators have a setting to automatically vanish it.
Bro I feel u...I had fun playing as a kid(high school kid)and honestly wouldn't mind playing again..I loved it for what it was and me and my brother definitely had good times playing
Played this game for the first time recently, I got up to the vegeta fight doing co-op I will say, I did have fun, but when you're doing co-op, there's a 20-30 second timer that counts down, and each player gets a few seconds to control goku, instead of just making the other person play as gohan or krillin. Which.. i really hate.
I remember the co op during the vegeta, frieza and final cell fight was terrible because of this. On other future levels it’s fun though, if you get the chance to play again
i enjoyed this game as a kid too, and it wasn't even that i had like no other games. i remember having a lot of fun just by chaining a combo into an uppercut, then using a kamehameha on them.
I personally really like Sagas and there are many reasons. It was a rare 3rd-person adventure game for the franchise, it had just as rare an example of a true Co-Op story mode, it was a game that smartly used clips from the anime for its cutscenes (you may see this as lazy but I personally like it because it gives this game a difference from all the others), akin to the openings for Budokai 2 and Budokai 3 it had absolutely beautiful original animation for its first cutscene, the stellar music soundtrack in my opinion, the story mode's unique Future Trunks chapters and original Yardrat level, a very rare game to have 13 year old Teen Trunks and a legitimate one-arm Future Gohan, it gave us Gamecube players a release with Bardock and Broly (prior to Sagas that console sadly only got Budokai 1 and 2), plus it was the only original X-Box game. It's a fun guilty pleasure.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I think if we had gotten sequels or just more games similar to this in the franchise it would’ve been just an ok game in my opinion, but it’s so drastically different than everything else, and also is so much fun to play despite its flaws
I personally like the game. Its a fun spyro like game to play with a friend. ALSO, there is indeed a lock on button. The aiming is fine, you just have to lock on to your target.
As a kid this was my first Dragon Ball Z game on PS2. The game I got mom to buy me when she got me the PlayStation. I absolutely adored this game as a kid. Replayed over and over, and even when I eventually got better Z games like Budokai I still would go back to play sagas
Especially the meter bar for ss2 and it drains quickly too oh that really pissed me off i just don't understand why they couldn't have made the transformation with the click of a button or button combo like they did for budokai
You should make a video of what changes or how you would have made the dbz sagas game especially what you would have made for the transformations easier just a suggestion by the way
@@mysteriousthirteen hey would you consider doing a review for the surfs up video game and id love to know see what kind of extra content stuff you would have added in the game
They should have also added battle damaged outfits in the game even if you had to spend z coins to purchase them instead of adding different variations of just the same character
Maybe hopefully if that game gets a remake etc on switch they'll take ideas like that into consideration i mean can you imagine going through story mode again and fighting against freeza or cell but as a battle damaged goku teen gohan or etc
By the way log could would have been a actually good game but the task you had to complete during the saiyan saga and the freeza saga was a alot redundant tedious and just weird
ripped from the show is better than a crappily animated retelling in game. I wish more dbz games had content cut from the actual show.. would make them better.
Hate?! Hell nah I wanted this game so bad that even though I could've gotten a PS3 I specifically wanted a PS2 just to play dbz sagas but unfortunately mom(Santa) couldn't find it so I ended up with dbz Budokai 2 which wasn't bad so I was alright. But back in 2011 my friends let me play it and I was playing as broly, it was son fun to me. But if I played it now ion know how it would go
The fact that you have to jump high just to fly and then not to mention the meter bar to be filled just to transform into super saiyan etc really killed that game for me that game could have had potential
Well yeah you never saw them once acting like they needed to jump in order to fly in the anime well maybe except goten but he was super cute when he was trying to do that
@@mysteriousthirteen and i really feel you on having to get onto a higher cliff just to fly high midair and then traverse backwards just to nab some z coins capsules etc really quite irritating
separate comment, and i’m not hating don’t read off the script memorize what you write and glance at it time to time when needed. and remember, no mistakes, just Zenkai boosts!
15:59 Soba was awesome. great memory. wondered why he never appeared later on. no reason to hate on him just because the developers wants to do something original lol wtf people complain when they stick to canon people complain when they get original damned if you do, damned if you don’t like imagine in 20 years, someone says “ohh, no! why didn’t they create Android 21!” come on, dawg
I loved this game when it first game out and i replayed it recently and I still love it sm I've always been one of those fans that just aporeciates what we get luckily I've been able to enjoy A LOTTTTTT OF DRAGONBALL
I’m the exact same way man. Sure, I’d love for them to make another beat ‘em up dbz game and of course, they could do it better than they did here. But for what it is, I loved this game and always will
@@mysteriousthirteen apparently the game was an exclusive for Japan so if any gameplay is out there it would be in Japan. There are supposedly stores in Japan that may have the game. The only reason I know this is because my brother talked to a guy who likes to collect old stuff like consoles and games. He apparently had pictures of the box set of the game and even though it is in Japanese. There are pictures of the buu saga on the box.
@@mysteriousthirteen the combat was pretty rough, too much armor, and enemies in side missions were way too repetitive. Now legacy of Goku 2, that's a game
I will say that while this game is not perfect I loved playing this with my brother. For the time I think this game is good. I feel that people compare this game to today’s standards. I think people should consider what was available at the time. It does still have issues because there are good games from back then. However this game had cool ideas and features. I like specifically that this game had future gohan with one arm. I feel like very little games especially nowadays does not do this. The glitches were fun to like if you hit just right your character could look like false super sayain when they power up to transform. This is just my opinion and I hope one does not take offense.
I completely agree with you Jose! I had an amazing time playing this as a kid, and it was still pretty fun playing it now. It’s not perfect but it gets way too much hate
i played this with my brother back in the day too, and i can guarantee you: we would have quit halfway through the first level if we didn't use action replay hacks for the whole game.
This imo is one of the vest dragon ball z games. The idea was very good it just needed polished and fleshed out. I was hoping kakarot would be like this but its just another XenoVerse... XenoVerse is the wirst DBZ game ever and is holding back the creativity of dragon ball games.
The game is very, very bad. That doesn't mean you don't or shouldn't like it. If you do, you do. It's not the worst, though. There are some real ass fighters (i.e. Final Bout). It's a cooperative multi-player DB game, and if that's what you want, you can't exactly pick and choose. Tough having to sit through your brother charging his slow mo ki attack, then you repeat. I also like hearing why you like the game version of a story we both know, like the back of our hand; a different take on dialogue, or dialogue from another characters perspective. Perhaps you like DB as much as me to have found enjoyment in sagas but this is the real test: what are your feelings regarding Super?
I’ve been a DB fan since the late 90s when I’d watch it with my dad (I was very young), love it now as an adult and there’s no doubt I’ll love it when I’m 70. In regard to DBS I have mixed feelings. When it was originally announced I was In disbelief, beyond excited. But, I was quickly disappointed, still watched every episode though, it just wasn’t the sequel to DBZ I’d always wanted. Everything from the cast, tone, stakes and the antagonists just felt..off. I think it got a little better around goku black, just because it felt more serious, and the animation picked up a bit. But, in the end I’m happy to get more dragon ball, and parts of it I certainly enjoyed
@@mysteriousthirteen there are parts (in super) I've rewatched a hundred times, but I can't accept it other than a fun non canon story because of the way it contradicts and flat out destroys lore. I won't let AT and the gang (the same AT that literally forgot SSJ3 existed)say "yeah you know all that shit we said in Z? That's been unchallenged and unchanged and celebrated for nigh 30 years? Yeah, it's wrong, and this is right, and you're going to not only accept it but do so unquestionably". It's not strange that young kids who are introduced to DB via S will do so, but it astonished me how even guys like us have been eating the BS and clamoring for more. The last "movie" has ended my 27ish year relationship with DB as my heart just can't take it anymore. Ppl love Fake Broly and hate on real one while totally misunderstanding his character. Saiyans aren't loving, family oriented doting parents. Totally undermines and destroys gokus nature/nurture character
Woo! Sagas! The game that I needed to import to germany at all costs! And then just playing it on emulators xD or my modded 360. Sagas has it's own feeling to the game. I like it. But the Android Saga sucks because of the buildings, that just don't suit the bad gameplay xD The menu is not bland imho. It's the scouter, with the sounds and so on. It's not as flat as most menus today are and people call today's mostly flat menus good...
This game could be either remade or a sequel could come out but DBZ Kakarot is the definitive DRAGONBALL RPG imo. Cool channel deff subbed. Keep it up fr 🔥!
In my memories Sagas was always a cool game and I loved it until I started watching all the bad reviews lol. I won't play it so I don't ruin the good memories I have left of it. However DBZ Taiketsu for the GBA, that was a bad game then now and forever.
It’s no doubt the game is flawed and is mechanically bad. But I had just as much playing it as a grown man as I did a child, it’s just a fun experience all around. Don’t listen to the haters, those TH-camrs probably went into the game already planning to hate on it lol
I think you have the voice of a surfer, and I think dbz taiketsu is the worst dbz game at least sagas they have different animation when they fight. Also it's funny how dbz kakarot is like this game done right.
not hating anyone that likes this game but it’s horrible. at the time it was alright but that’s it i never loved it i’d rather just play the budokai series. even budokai 2.

If you actually watch the video, I mention multiple negatives about the game, and how certain aspects are bad.
Very interesting
But also.. the vegeta vs android 19 fight is in there and he does kill him
@@mysteriousthirteen Ah, Vegeta vs Android 19 is in it? I forgot about that one. Guess I'm not 100% accurate then, but it is a theory I've always held to.
There is one thing in the three videos I saw from you that drives me insane: The freakin mouse!! Please just put it out of the picture.. I think some emulators have a setting to automatically vanish it.
Bro I feel u...I had fun playing as a kid(high school kid)and honestly wouldn't mind playing again..I loved it for what it was and me and my brother definitely had good times playing
Exactly bro. I played twice as a kid (around age 10 and 17) and once as an adult. Each time my friends and I had a great experience
Played this game for the first time recently, I got up to the vegeta fight doing co-op
I will say, I did have fun, but when you're doing co-op, there's a 20-30 second timer that counts down, and each player gets a few seconds to control goku, instead of just making the other person play as gohan or krillin. Which.. i really hate.
I remember the co op during the vegeta, frieza and final cell fight was terrible because of this. On other future levels it’s fun though, if you get the chance to play again
I love this game. Still own an original copy for my PS2 and still play it.
Same here! I have it on GameCube
i enjoyed this game as a kid too, and it wasn't even that i had like no other games. i remember having a lot of fun just by chaining a combo into an uppercut, then using a kamehameha on them.
Thank you, man! I get tired of defending myself on my take of this game. It’s pretty decent
I always loved this game and still do. I replayed it a lot and I also played other dbz games. This still holds up to me.
Same here! If this was less rushed and tweaked a bit it might be the perfect dbz game for me
Bro despite all of the hate this game received I loved this game I thought it was actually pretty awesome 💯.for it's time and Era.👌🏼
Agreed! I loved this game and still do. Probably always will
Man I remember seeing the promotional posters in front of Walmart, I loved it, always waited for pt 2 for the Buu saga and GT 😭
I’m still waiting on a sagas 2 man 🥲
I personally like the game. Its a fun spyro like game to play with a friend. ALSO, there is indeed a lock on button. The aiming is fine, you just have to lock on to your target.
I know there is lol I still felt like the aiming was a bit of a pain with certain enemies
@@mysteriousthirteen I agree aha
Damn bro that's crazy literally the entire definition of this video.
1st video I seen after all these years that actually gives sagas love one of my favorite dbz games to this day
For sure bro, that’s one of the reasons I made it. Always loved this game
As a kid this was my first Dragon Ball Z game on PS2. The game I got mom to buy me when she got me the PlayStation. I absolutely adored this game as a kid. Replayed over and over, and even when I eventually got better Z games like Budokai I still would go back to play sagas
I adored this game too. It may not be perfect but it brings back some great memories with me and my buddies on co op
Especially the meter bar for ss2 and it drains quickly too oh that really pissed me off i just don't understand why they couldn't have made the transformation with the click of a button or button combo like they did for budokai
Dude the super saiyan 2 fight was bruutal. It takes forever to charge up that much
You should make a video of what changes or how you would have made the dbz sagas game especially what you would have made for the transformations easier just a suggestion by the way
@@mysteriousthirteen hey would you consider doing a review for the surfs up video game and id love to know see what kind of extra content stuff you would have added in the game
@@ryanjonsson2468 I actually considered doing a second Sagas video, but that will be a little down the road. And I’ll check out surfs up!
Oh yeah and let's not forget that if your transformation bar goes under ss bar you'll revert back to ssj teen gohan now that was messed up af
They should have also added battle damaged outfits in the game even if you had to spend z coins to purchase them instead of adding different variations of just the same character
Yeah that would’ve been really cool!
Maybe hopefully if that game gets a remake etc on switch they'll take ideas like that into consideration i mean can you imagine going through story mode again and fighting against freeza or cell but as a battle damaged goku teen gohan or etc
And make the transformations and flight the press of a button or button combos
By the way log could would have been a actually good game but the task you had to complete during the saiyan saga and the freeza saga was a alot redundant tedious and just weird
Oh and after you beat freeza would have been cool you got to keep playing the game and you got to keep the transformation
It gives you a feeling of a dbz open world without being open world which was cool and thts about it everhthing else was preery bad
Respectable opinion
ripped from the show is better than a crappily animated retelling in game. I wish more dbz games had content cut from the actual show.. would make them better.
That’s true, at least it’s different than the same stuff we get every time
I tried to make a mod in that game and failed 😭
But if I played it now ion know how it would go
I just played it for the first time in 10 years and couldn’t put it down man, give it a shot it still holds up as a fun game
I only played one mission with my cuz and we liked it so far. I could see playing it by yourself not being as fun and repetitive thou.
Hell yeah I’m glad you enjoyed it, co op in this game is so fun
The fact that you have to jump high just to fly and then not to mention the meter bar to be filled just to transform into super saiyan etc really killed that game for me that game could have had potential
The jump to fly mechanic definitely felt out of place for a dbz game lol
Well yeah you never saw them once acting like they needed to jump in order to fly in the anime well maybe except goten but he was super cute when he was trying to do that
@@mysteriousthirteen and i really feel you on having to get onto a higher cliff just to fly high midair and then traverse backwards just to nab some z coins capsules etc really quite irritating
imo the worst DB game is prob Taiketsu or Final Bout it's literally unplayable to me

and remember, no mistakes, just Zenkai boosts!
Thanks for the feedback! I like to think I’ve improved on this in my newer vids if you haven’t seen them yet let me know what you think :)
The game does have bad reviews but it's not bad at all I remember playing when I was younger but it did need a little bit more fixing for a game.
I agree. If the game received more support back then we may have gotten a more polished Sagas 2
15:59 Soba was awesome. great memory. wondered why he never appeared later on.
no reason to hate on him just because the developers wants to do something original lol wtf
people complain when they stick to canon
people complain when they get original
damned if you do, damned if you don’t
like imagine in 20 years, someone says “ohh, no! why didn’t they create Android 21!”
come on, dawg
Exactly man! I couldn’t agree more. We’ve gotten the canon story so many times it’s refreshing to get something a bit different
Amazing video thirteen ❤
Thanks!! Glad you liked it :)
I don't hate this game but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't super stressful to play
It definitely can be at times

Did you know that I think in Japan there was a special addition of this game where you could play the buu saga?
I’ve heard some rumors about that on Reddit but I never believed it, have you seen any gameplay?
@@mysteriousthirteen apparently the game was an exclusive for Japan so if any gameplay is out there it would be in Japan. There are supposedly stores in Japan that may have the game. The only reason I know this is because my brother talked to a guy who likes to collect old stuff like consoles and games. He apparently had pictures of the box set of the game and even though it is in Japanese. There are pictures of the buu saga on the box.

This imo is one of the vest dragon ball z games. The idea was very good it just needed polished and fleshed out. I was hoping kakarot would be like this but its just another XenoVerse... XenoVerse is the wirst DBZ game ever and is holding back the creativity of dragon ball games.
I had really high hopes for kakarot and while it was a fun game, it definitely disappointed me
The game is very, very bad.
After seeing some of the other menu screens I take that back haha. Glad you don’t hate the game! It’s pretty decent
