The thing I remember most about this game is in the magazines it was revealed that mecha frieza was uniquely redesigned in this game by Akira Toriyama themselves which is a big deal since dragonball hadn't had anything new since GT (Super hadn't been realized yet) and it turns out that this was just a translation error

Personally love the hell out of this game practically no story mode or anything just good classic arcade fun with a good upgrade system and you can literally give Videl Kamehameha.
One thing that hurt it was the respec (resetting skills). It takes so long to just grind and change up your skill tree. It would have been easier to just let you customize your moveset from the get-go and save the RPG mechanics for another mode. Or even just make you unlock them once and customize them from there. Best parts about this game were the music, visuals, unique character designs, and interactable stages. It's fun, it's good, but it could definitely be better. I also like the unique 3D fighting gameplay.
I remember when this came out I bought it and then my family and I went on holiday to New Zealand but as soon as I got back from my holiday I just went hard and finished it within a week collecting all outfits for all characters and their alternative colours so to me this is a gem that should get euther a remaster or a port to the current and newer consoles

A shame, as the character selection is unique, the customisation/upgrading factor cool and the 3d stages awesome; you did a great job showcasing these factors through this video.
@@user-ny5vp9be8v True, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo did have a fighting game mode to it, but that isn't quite the same as a full on fighting game. @@asgth6147 Oh yes, forgot the 23rd Tournament due to Goku being an adult in that one. It feels like an odd transition period between OG Dragon Ball and Z in a way (and in terms of a game sense, they would have to create a new model for Goku to have both Kid and Adult; which is probably why a Advance Adventure and Revenge of King Piccolo stop at the King Piccolo arc).

damn this is actually a decent video.
Holy shit you dug up a forgotten memory. I can’t believe i forgot this game
This is indeed a wonderful game, the only problem is it's exclusive to just the PS2 and there are certain games I just couldn't stand playing on PS2. A Dragon Ball Z fighting game with less than 20 characters is one of them.
Man, this takes me back. Final bout was another like this that I don’t hear a lot of people talk about.
There ultimate fighter is Videl. Goku didn't lie, you just played on easy mode. 🤣 You lack Saiyan pride.
You just brought back some amazing childhood years of mine.. wow
This game is a fucking Gem, played this b to death.
join us on the Super DBZ Discord :)
I remember my mom got me this, played it so much frfr. I loved it dearly to this day! To this day
I wasn't a fan of limited character selection. The unlocks were underwhelming
Neither was I but to be honest, there was so much to each character that i got over that after awhile
This game always looked so fun, I regret that I never played it but, I was always aware of it.
its never to late to start playing. we’ve got a Super DBZ Discord server if you wanna find others to play with
Keep up the good work my dude, great video!
I didnt know this existed until I spotted it randomly at a mom and pop game store somewhere. I own it for the collection, but have never played it all that much. This made me want to bring it back out
I remembering being a kid at gamestop and saw this game... I desperately wanted a dbz game beacuse until then i had only ever owned the ps1 game dbz Utimate battle 22 but unfortunately I had an original xbox not a ps2 so I ended up finding a copy of dbz sagas that day... I wonder how much fun i missed out on that i could have had playing this game....
i only started playing SDBZ in 2019. its never too late lol
The user interface looks so good and creative
I remember being out at the store and asking my grandma to buy me this game, when I got home to play it I was so excited but got bored with it pretty quickly. I was only like 11 at the time and didn’t understand all the upgrading and boosting stuff so I just sold it to a pawn shop. Looking back on it now I wish I would’ve spent more time with this game, it looks like so much fun.
you should give it another try. you can find copies for like $10-20 USD
God this was one of my first DBZ games as a kid, the hardest part for me was trying to go ssj
Thank you so much for bringing this to light because this is honestly my favorite dbz game but sadly it got scratched up, I had someone fix it but they never gave it back
Super dbz has never been forgotten by me and was one of my favorite dragon ball games
Plus character customization changing colors around is pretty fun
Don't think I ever had the Pleasure. First Console DBZ Game I remember playing was Budokai. THAT Game blew my Young Mind. I will have to pick this up sometime soon. Thanks!
Ps. 600th Sub!
As a kid, I remember playing this game at someone's house and being trash at the game, my first impression of this game was that it was bad; I was thinking, "This isn't Budokai or Tenkaichi!?!"
.. unfortunately I never played it again.
yo i dont know why you only got 199 subs but ill sub
Burst limit was always a gem in the dbz series. The combat is so good.
Definitely a hidden gem
Loved this game way back when, great gameplay and I enjoyed the customization options.
I remember my friend loaning this game to me in school... I honestly didn't really like it back then but now I find it really cool
Really wish you mentioned the music, cuz its phenomenal!
i recommend you to check out more of Supersweep’s work
@@gpbear4 what?
@@Titanxzero1 Supersweep is the name of the group of artists who composed the music for Super DBZ, but they’ve also worked on music for all of Arika’s other games as well as games from other studios.
maybe check out the music from Technicbeat to start.
@@gpbear4 Ahhh I see ok. Thanks.
Me and my brother played it and loved the game still have it today with a lot of other classics
Holy shit, I actually did forget about this game. I used to own this when I was younger, and I actually liked this game more than most of the other dragon ball z games I had
this looks really fun
YES ! I loved Super Dragon Ball Z, the soundtrack was fantastic, I love the arcadey sound effects, and the gameplay was so unique compared to the other Dragon Ball games I had played. I still have fond memories of playing this for hours upon hours with my brother.
I remember this game and enjoyed it a lot! Hadn't played it in a long time though!
How do you only have 66 subs man? +1 from me, keep them coming! :)
I remember renting this and returning it quickly.
I played the ever living hell out of this growing up. I remember i thought it was kinda weird looking but it keeps you hooked for hours. Another comment already said he played till daybreak and thats really how it was. Min maxing, customizing moves( I shamelessly gave Trunks Kamehameha) learning combos and customizing your character, it was very much in the same vein as Tekken. The soundtrack was pretty dope too. I would say heavily underrated for sure, and it even has a competitive scene.
are you on the Super DBZ Discord server?
The soundtrack in super dragon ball Z was amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Still got this game. I’m about to play this underrated gem
I love Super Dragon Ball Z. I played it as a teenager and I had such a great time.
Bruh the soundtrack in tht game was fire🔥🔥🔥
This is still one of my favorite DB games! But I agree with you on why it’s forgotten. A remaster with online and new characters or a straight up sequel would be amazing!
I didn’t forget this game cause I play this to this day
are you on the Super DBZ Discord server?
