There are two sequels to Blade. The first sequel is the best IMO. There was also a Blade TV series that did not get a lot of support that it only lasted one season. I loved that series. It shows a lot of behind the scenes from the vampire’s side and the underground cells around the world waging war against the vampire elites, providing logistical support to Blade, with weapons and intelligence. One of Blade’s newest companions tasked with infiltrating the vampire’s inner circle. And you don’t know whether she’ll remain loyal to Blade or be ‘seduced by the dark side of the Force’. This movie had a $45 million budget and made over $130 million. This is THE marvel movie. The movie that saved marvel from bankruptcy. If not for blade , none of the marvel movies that came after would have been possible. Look it up.
They already announced that Blade is coming to the MCU, so yeah more gore is coming. I'm glad that more movies that have more blood in them are coming, the next being Deadpool 3. Arkane is currently making a Blade game, and there was a trailer for it, it comes out in 2025 I feel like the MCU gets the charecters closer to the comics, so I can't wait for a more faithful adaptation. A lot of movies from the 2000s and before were changing the original story or/and the charecters, masseg of the source material. I also think Iron man was one of the most faithful adaptation of a Marvel comic ever. That started a chain reaction where we can have shows like the Boys where the show is better than the comics. And the fact that the MCU is opened for gore is so amazing that they already announced 3 or 4 R-rated movies, and they give space for more mature shows like Echo or Daredevil.
I really enjoyed your reaction/review and almost as much as the movie itself, this being one of my favourite Marvel movies it was so pleasing to see you getting a lot of joy from watching so I'm most excited to see you watch Blade 2. I kind of understand that you had no awareness of this movie and the character cos it was only a few years before I came to know of the character. My favourite Marvel character is Spider-Man and in the 90's Spider-Man animated series Blade featured in a few episodes, I thought he was cool but Wesley Snipes portrayal of the character made me a big fan of him. I'm always excited for the content on your channel so keep up the good work👍🏼
It really is Christmas! One of my favorites, I really hope you watch the 2nd one too eventually. One of the rare times a sequel was better than the 1st, imo anyways. Merry Christmas everyone!
The new Blade movie with Mahershala Ali is going tonbe rated the same as this one...R. And he was hesitant on doing it because the scripts weren't following that R-rated format. And Blade is what you call a Dhampir born of a human and vampire parent, but in this case he's more of a genetic mutation.
Not only is there a "Blade II", but there's also "Blade Trinity" and the short-lived "Blade: The Series" (though it didn't star Wesley Snipes; IIRC, it was made while Snipes was doing time for tax evasion). Whistler also wasn't a character in the comics at the time the movie was made, though the movie also wasn't his first appearance either. Instead, he first appeared in the episode of the '90s "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" where Blade guest-starred.
People say Iron Man paved the way for the MCU. But this was the first movie where they went ham with material from the comics, and it didn't suck. I mean, except for the vampires.
Fun face: the success of Blade is what lead to the MCU. It made Marvel enough money to keep them from selling the movie rights to characters that they used for the Avengers.
I was definitely not old enough to watch this movie when I watched it for the first time but it's just corny enough that I loved it. Frost is definitely something else, the actor has this face that makes him look almost feral.
The first real kick-a** vampire action thriller. Giving Van Helsing & Buffy a long-run for their money. From Marvel Comics' darker side of the universe. Inspired by blaxploitation films (namely Shaft & Blacula). Debuting 45 years ago in 'The Tomb of Dracula' comics as one of Drac's many foes. Marvel's golden age on film (1998-2007) began with Blade. The 2nd Rated-R movie for a Marvel character (following The Punisher, 1989) and the first supernatural/horror property of the Marvel Universe and first-ever Marvel character with a box office smash. This trilogy of the character was written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, BvS:Dawn of Justice). Prior to being casted as Blade, Wesley Snipes as actor & producer was involved with developing Black Panther. At the time, the film rights of BP were with Sony. Snipes didn't know Blade & Black Panther were both from Marvel. History made for sure. It paved the way for more success of Marvel characters on film. Nuff respect due to the success in the arrival of The Daywalker. The first 2 films did become video games, Blade appeared in Marvel's Ultimate Alliance series and most recently, Midnight Suns. Blade will get a brand new game in 2025 from Bethesda.
Guillermo del Toro KILLS Blade 2. So good. I like it at LEAST as much as the OG (and that's quite a lot). The soundtrack is top tier too. Just picture everything that you loved here, taken to the next level. I'm convinced you'll have a blast. And yea, this was before the Disney acquisition of Marvel and formation of the MCU. I really wish it would go back to this kind of quality as well (though I enjoyed most of Phase 1-4). Blade was always a more edgier character, even in the comics, as far as Marvel goes. Much like the Punisher, Deadpool, Wolverine, he's one of the few characters with that mature edge. It's hard to imagine Disney doing any of those justice today. I still have high hopes for Deadpool 3, but that's only because Ryan Reynolds is so personally invested in the project, and I buy him as a true fan. DP's the closest thing we've had to a Blade in, really, decades. Fingers crossed! Also... speaking of horror stories-- I've heard many regarding the production of the new Blade... not sounding too promising, unfortunately. And I was looking forward to it when I first heard who they were casting. I think the choice of lead is great, but the horror stories have been coming mostly from the production/writing/budget side. So many people in filmmaking today could take lessons from this movie. And really just relearn basic storytelling. Like you said, this was a pretty special time for these kinds of flicks. They just felt way more grounded to me. Probably has a lot to do with the reliance on CGI too, compared to that timeless effect that really good practical effects can have. I think this will always hold up in that department (minus the CGI portions ofc lol), as will movies like Alien. Feels like we've become so much lazier now that we can click a bunch of things to make pretty effects. Anyways... Glad you enjoyed this one! Can't wait for the sequel! Oh, and there is a third... but, we don't speak of it (often). Shout out to Ryan Reynolds though. lol Who knows though, you might actually enjoy it. Just expect a WAY campier approach. :p
Blade in the comics is British but outside of that the movie and characters are pretty close to the comics. Blade not wanting to drink blood is because it makes him lose control, not because of shame. Blade 2 is also good, bigger budget which doesn’t always translates to quality but an eventual Oscar winning director made great use of the extra money. Ghost Rider (2007) is another really fun pre-MCU Marvel movie. Basically the same storyline as this movie but still very fun.
A couple of questions, more or less totally unrelated to the video... just curious. 1) Are those D&D books I see on the shelves behind you? Do you game? 2) Have you played tabletop games beyond D&D? Witcher, The Expanse, Dragon Age, Marvel, something else?
Highly recommend watching Blade 2 AND 3 aswell, Blade 2 is even better. Blade 3 gets a lot of flack, and some it deserved. The 'bad guy' is very subpar in my eyes but its got some cool people in it and the action... MWAH!
Funnily enough, Marvel movies go even further back than this. In 1987 or thereabouts, Dolph Lundgren played The Punisher. The movie isn't great, but it's still pretty good. I love the contrast between Dragonetti and Frost. While Dragonetti is concerned with upholding tradition and hierarchy, where pure blood vampires rule the nation and maintain the balance, Frost doesn't concern himself with meaningless purity and instead is focused on advancing the species away from the balance and into dominion over humans. Now, I cannot tell you just how highly I recommend watching the second one. Guillermo Del Toro directed it, and it's amazing. And if you like it, he also directed the first two Hellboy movies, which are excellent.
Hey, if you like the concept of "modern day vampires", have a look at the 90s TV series "Nick Knight" about a cop in the night shift who is actually a 800-year old vampire who tries to become human again.
Everyone likes to blame Disney for Marvel supposedly becoming too kid friendly. Disney didn't acquire the rights to Marvel until 2009. There was lots of other Marvel projects before and after that had nothing to do with Disney and were made to be kid friendly. This is done, because movies that are rated R, typically don't get lots of attention at the box office, and the sales are usually not that much better when it comes on video. PG13 sells tickets. Rated R doesn't. It's really that simple.
this movie is based on a Marvel comic, but it's not a Marvel Studios movie. Marvel Studios wasn't formed until after movies like this, X-Men and Spider-Man (all licensed to other studios) proved that you can actually make successful movies with Marvel characters. also, considering how surprised you are by the amount of violence in a Marvel IP, I can only assume that you haven't watched Deadpool yet, so that's something you can look forward to.
The Sequels are... not Masterpieces, but fun and I liked them despite their Problems. If you enjoyed this one, I can only recommend watching the others.
Marvel didn't make this movie. If you saw the intro credits, it says "In Association With" on the Marvel logo...meaning, they just licensed the Blade character to make this movie.
Not sure if you’ll read this but they are in fact making a Blade video game. Not sure if it’s an Xbox exclusive but Arkane studios (dishonored, deathloop) are the team developing the game.
The world building in Blade (esp the source material) is amazing. Makes most other fictional vampire mythologies look flaccid. It includes everything from pure / half bloods, ghouls, politics etc . and well was the first R rated Marvel films.... followed by... well Dead Pool ... took them awhile to get back to those of us adults. part of Blades movement to to emphasize his blood. you will notice some footage slightly sped up and well Snipes can move at ridiculous speed. being told in at least one production to slow down in choreography due to being to fast for the camera Blade was also a big deal due to not being white. not fitting the 'super hero'/comicbook mold of the time. was extremely well written, amazing art, the biggest was that it did not make a deal out of his race, he was the daywalker and that was that. this created a massive following - me included.... "go home" --- "get therapy" lots and lots of it...
Some martial arts? Every moving he has made has been martial arts.... Wesley Snipes is a 5th degree black belt. The cutting of the flower also represents a martial arts tradition. Just FYI
I don't think it was bravery for marvel, it was more like desperation. Marvel has been making movies since the 70s, I've seen most of them and they are very forgettable. DC on the other hand was winning awards for Superman in the 80s and Batman in the 90s, and they are all memorable. The risk paid off because it was marvels first real success. while writing this, I just remember a scene from all those old marvel movie, It was a Hulk Movie, don't remember the name, the hulk died because he fell out a plane and landed on concrete, I was not impressed.
This is my favorite marvel movie. When they say black panther was the first black superhero they are so wrong because we have the badass known as BLADE 😎

I feel like the MCU gets the charecters closer to the comics, so I can't wait for a more faithful adaptation.
I'm always excited for the content on your channel so keep up the good work👍🏼
This movie also help keep marvel from filling bankruptcy
It really is Christmas! One of my favorites, I really hope you watch the 2nd one too eventually. One of the rare times a sequel was better than the 1st, imo anyways. Merry Christmas everyone!
Nope, the 1st was good the sequel was terrible
@@josetorralva7419 That's like.....your opinion man. You can think whatever you want and i'm not gonna say nope, you're wrong. Lol
Nope, I'm right
This one was amazing in a theater.
The villain in blade 2 is way better than the villain in blade one.... I wouldn't say he's a villain though
Is there a time table when which movie is comming´? So we know when to come back to your channel to continue :)
the original marvel for me. Then it came the one directed by del toro and is so chessy/awesome too
Blade was pretty close to the comics the only thing they changed was he is British in the comics and American in the movie
I grew up watching Marvel's Spider-Man and Captain America movies in the 1970s, ancient they go back farther than that!
*ba dum tss*
Howard The Duck - 1986. Please add this to your Marvel watch list. 😃
Fun face: the success of Blade is what lead to the MCU. It made Marvel enough money to keep them from selling the movie rights to characters that they used for the Avengers.
I liked and read the old Blade Comics in the 80's but I have only seen the trailers for the movies only never the
full movies Thanks Meg.🦇🦇🦇
I was definitely not old enough to watch this movie when I watched it for the first time but it's just corny enough that I loved it. Frost is definitely something else, the actor has this face that makes him look almost feral.
The studio that made the Dishonored games actually just announced they are making a third person Blade game set in Paris
Marvel movies don't go back that far... Weasley Snipes Blade, goes back that far... And created marvel movies from nothing.
Wesley Snipe’s movements are always “sure” and “direct” much like his martial arts😊
"I didn't know Marvel dealt with vampires" us old true believers CHILDREN 😂❤❤❤❤❤😂
They had a blade game on PlayStation 2
FYI Blade II is directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Marvel movies go waaaaaay back. Dolph Lundgren starred in The Punisher back in 1989.
Blade 2 is even better
The first real kick-a** vampire action thriller.
Giving Van Helsing & Buffy a long-run for their money.
From Marvel Comics' darker side of the universe.
Inspired by blaxploitation films (namely Shaft & Blacula).
Debuting 45 years ago in 'The Tomb of Dracula' comics
as one of Drac's many foes.
Marvel's golden age on film (1998-2007) began with Blade.
The 2nd Rated-R movie for a Marvel character (following The Punisher, 1989)
and the first supernatural/horror property of the Marvel Universe and
first-ever Marvel character with a box office smash.
This trilogy of the character was written by David S. Goyer
(The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, BvS:Dawn of Justice).
Prior to being casted as Blade, Wesley Snipes as actor & producer
was involved with developing Black Panther.
At the time, the film rights of BP were with Sony.
Snipes didn't know Blade & Black Panther were both from Marvel.
History made for sure.
It paved the way for more success of Marvel characters on film.
Nuff respect due to the success in the arrival of The Daywalker.
The first 2 films did become video games, Blade appeared in
Marvel's Ultimate Alliance series and most recently, Midnight Suns.
You should read Marvel's Tomb of Dracula comic from the 70s, that's where Blade originated.
DRAGON AGE WITH COLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Talk about a deep cut reference
They are making a Blade game, FYI. I think Bethesda is involved. It's also Arkane, the same studio that made the Dishonored games.
There are 3 and the last one has Ryan Reynolds in it.
Hey,
if you like the concept of "modern day vampires", have a look at the 90s TV series "Nick Knight" about a cop in the night shift who is actually a 800-year old vampire who tries to become human again.
Written by David S. Goyer...who also co-wrote (among other super-hero movies) the three Christopher Nolan Batman movies.
@8:00 "Doctor KAREN Johnson", Whistler was reading HER name tag. Whistler isn't a doctor, she is.
Blade 2 is equally awesome if not better. Unpopular take -I love Blade 3 (the proto orgin of Deadpool.)...
It includes everything from pure / half bloods, ghouls, politics etc . and well was the first R rated Marvel films.... followed by... well Dead Pool ... took them awhile to get back to those of us adults.
part of Blades movement to to emphasize his blood. you will notice some footage slightly sped up and well Snipes can move at ridiculous speed. being told in at least one production to slow down in choreography due to being to fast for the camera
Blade was also a big deal due to not being white. not fitting the 'super hero'/comicbook mold of the time. was extremely well written, amazing art, the biggest was that it did not make a deal out of his race, he was the daywalker and that was that. this created a massive following - me included....
"go home" --- "get therapy" lots and lots of it...
3 blade movies and 1 TV show for only a season
Some martial arts? Every moving he has made has been martial arts.... Wesley Snipes is a 5th degree black belt. The cutting of the flower also represents a martial arts tradition. Just FYI
It's not your typical light hearted Marvel movie. It's very dark and brooding.
Praying you watch Blade 2. It’s my fave of them. Guillermo del Toro directed it.
Vampire Eilders blamed Frost coz he created the Daywalker. The movie couldn't let him explained he let the unborn child like Blade live.
This is my favorite marvel movie. When they say black panther was the first black superhero they are so wrong because we have the badass known as BLADE 😎
Fun Fact - The guy who directed this movie (Stephen Norrington), is my dad's cousin.
If I recall correctly, I'm fairly sure the first comic I saw Blade in was actually an 'old' Dracula magazine. Not entirely sure if Blade went by that name, at the time. After all some 25+ years ago.
If you’re looking for good blade comics I’d recommend the Tomb of Dracula series. It’s where he first appeared.
Waiting for you to react to the trilogy
