  • Are you ready to add the power of ceiling fans and lube to your arcade experience? Want to understand what any of that’s about? Find out as I show you how to build a $20 DIY arcade stick.
    There’s plenty to be skeptical of in these extremely inexpensive DIY arcade kits that online retailers like Amazon are flooded with. But is the skepticism warranted? Or are we all missing out? In this video, I go over what actually comes in these boxes. I also compare them with similar products, if not the ones they’re copies of. After a product comparison, I show what it takes to make a case out of a plain plastic box. Once it’s together, I go over some gameplay and give my thoughts on the entire project and if the build is worth it.
    What do you think? Have you used one of these types of sticks before? Did I change your mind? Did I miss anything? Let me know!

    Thanks for watching, please tell me what you think below!
    Also, LED people! I haven't forgotten you. My goal is to have an LED modding guide for the 8BitDo Arcade Stick be one of the next two videos. It will depend on how quickly I get other ideas together, and how fast some parts arrive for it; but it is coming!

      If you have the tools required, you can absolutely save money this way.
      I made this video to not just show how to do a project like this, but also to be very transparent and show potentially hidden costs. If someone doesn't already have or can't borrow the tools required to do something like this; they're likely to go way over budget.

    Yo! Nearly a year later but I've purchased a 2
    $20 kit from Aliexpress. I like it the buttons feel nice and chunky. It was a PS2/PS3 version and it's been doing good for MVC2

    Bro I went to focus attack or paradise arcade I can't remember but it was one of thr big 3..my son has to play on a fightstick for accessibility reasons. We had the razor atrox we loved the jlf in it. The microswitch went out so I bought a pcb with thr switches and well it wasn't any hood it had more missed inputs than the original broken 1.then the green pcb board started to peel off and it was a brown tan board under a sticker. So I spent the money and got him a nacon dijah and it came with a knock off jfl..and thr switches are broken. I need help I'm trying to find a pcb with good micro switches or a good new stick unit

    Thank you for the infos, im glad to find such a channel when i need those kind of info :)
    I have a question/suggestion however wich is kinda going in the sense of that video.
    Have you got any suggestion for "low budget" but valuable joysticks and buttons. Im not talking about beating some fox at some EVO event, just having something that does a correct job for someone who wants to give modding a try without ruining...
    Keep up the good work !

      Thank you for the kind words.
      The default parts in any of the three most commonly recommended beginner sticks won't rock anyone's world, but will absolutely get the job done. In order of cost, the Mayflash F300, Qanba Drone, and 8BitDo Arcade Stick will all deliver. And give you room to mod in the future.
      As for individual parts, I'd like to do a round up & review video in the future. Whenever I can get that done I'll have much better recommendations.

      @@Hops_fgc sounds good, im pretty sure im not the one looking for "good ripoffs" allright any little piece of search brings you to sanwa and seimitsu but there's obviously something that works well without needing to be competitive...

    I built an arcade stick controller out of a cheap kit. It worked ok but I was not happy with the functionality of the USB interface. I modded it to work with my old school NES. Works amazing with my Nintendo.

    So what happens when I replace the zero delay boards with rp-2040-ce. I just want a dual arcade stick to play some old arcade games with my little niece.

    • @Hops_fgc
      @Hops_fgc  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In that situation, I don't think it matters. I made this video assuming someone is trying to play fighting games semi-seriously. Where the inconsistency of that board will regularly mess up combos. Or anything timing sensitive, really.
      Unless you already have all the tools and materials on hand. I think you'd be better off getting a couple Hori fighting stick minis and calling it a day.
      But for your use case this would be fine

      @@Hops_fgc Yeah I'm not going to use those boards you'll get a couple raspberry pico clones for under 10 euro, As for the case I have hardly no tools but I can use the laser cutter at the local library for the top and there some woodwork places where you can do your thing for a couple of euro's. Should be a fun project. Thanks for the info.

    My advice is actually to get a soldering kit and to use an old controller as your PCB.

  • @Bylga
    @Bylga ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Kit / kits are fine but when you have tried the real deal you wont go back to it. Also the worst thing building is time then money.

    • @Hops_fgc
      @Hops_fgc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you're right. The joystick and buttons usually are okay; nothing amazing but serviceable. The ""zero delay"" board are the weak point. And to your second point, also yes. The time investment makes any monetary savings nil.

    • @Bylga

      @@Hops_fgc A good / quick hack for the arcade stick is to buy quality omron microswitches. That made it preform way better.

    • @Hops_fgc

      @Blyga yeah, I've run into that with some cheap joysticks. Upgrading to omron is a good call!

    Ok so what would be the price for a better diy fightstick? As far as being cheap. Lol

    • @Hops_fgc
      @Hops_fgc  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What I built could be cheap, provided you already have other stuff you'll need.
      What I hoped to point out is that if someone has to buy 1 or 2 other things, like tools, to make a DIY arcade stick; they're going to blow past that $20 price tag. And they'll probably have spent the same amount as a Mayflash F300, a very moddable arcade stick, for something of likely lower quality.

    fake sanwa sticks and buttons feel so shit
    i bought a kit just to use the buttons as a test for a hitbox and omg each button needs different strenght to activate, completely inconsistent
    i did end up liking the hitbox style so i bought sanwa buttons, a pi pico and made the box out of lego (with an acrylic top panel of course) and threw the fake buttons in the trash

      Speaking from experience, The pcb he used doesn't work on PS4 unless the game has legacy support. Even then, some games like Tekken or soulcalibur might glitch out or have some inputs flipped.
