  • Let’s build out a fightstick before Evo this year with this easy arcade stick DIY guide! Here are all the part sources, part choices, theming justifications, and assembly footage you would need to put one together for yourself. Follow along and then don’t forget to post your completed build to r/fightsticks ! And then show me at Evo! #fgc
    Thanks to creepsnbabes, Xanibunib, TheTrain and others for contributing to the build.

    Hey, I hope you found this guide useful! Assembly starts around 10 minutes if you already have your case, theme, and parts! Make sure you post your completed build(s) to r/fightsticks and if you are bringing a wild stick to Evo ’24 that you’d like to show off, let me know and I’ll try to flag you down at the event to capture some video footage.

      9:13 do you know what kind of pcb the kaimana breakout board would be? Would it be possible to order from that page ? I just want to add the kaimana mini but I don’t have the connection in my pcb for it and would need the breakout board and it is always out of stock.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@wbdeltoro You wouldn't be able to order from a PCB assembly service without all the files (and the Kaimana is not publicly available, so that won't be an option for you). You could try to put your feelers out in the r/fightsticks discord, specifically the WTB section, and see if anyone has what you need. You could also get an LED effect in a different way. What you can do is take an LED light strip and cut the end to expose the ground/power wires and then hook them into the V5 and ground like you see done on that Brook daughterboard at 15:41 . It's cheaper since it really only takes a $10 light strip. I have an old video building out a Rainbow Goblin fightstick for a buddy and doing that so you can see the effect. Regardless, I hope you get what you're after and good luck with the build!

    Super cool video I think this was needed for the community of newer players coming into the FGC but also previous players who just want to get into the world of custom controllers and want one of those fancy DIY fight sticks and showing where and how they can do it themselves was definitely needed for them. I would like to ask one question as someone who is looking to make a custom enclosure/layout, where would be the best way to go about this are there certain sellers you reach out to or do you make them yourself with certain CADD programs or Laser Cutting etc. Keep up the great work and maybe I might spot you at EVO.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      TH-cam keeps eating my replies, but firstly, thank you for the nice comment! As far as custom layouts go, it depends on the enclosure. Obviously if you are building your own, it's dealer's choice. There are also services like SendCutSend which can cut you a custom layout panel to your specs. If you're buying an enclosure from one of the vendors I mentioned, then many are friendly and willing to help you get your dream layout (just costs more time and money usually). I have ordered several custom layouts from All Fight Sticks and Jony Fraze. So! Best of luck with the layout! A nice custom one can really kick things up a notch. Thanks for watching!

    I was thinking one with both hit box style and joystick built in. Some games i may want to use one or the other style. Maybe split hit box style a bit (like the one you had splited) with joy stick in the middle where joystick would act as left stick of controller. Maybe have a small thumb stick below right side buttons (low kick) near where thumb rest act as right stick. This way, it basically has all the controller functions. Of course will have to build out L3 and R3 as buttons.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I have an old video on "hitsticks" that showcases sort of what you're talking about. Usually the joystick is on the far left and the movement buttons are more in the middle, but you could build it however you'd like. Still, the vid might serve as good inspiration and give you an idea of what other people have done. Thanks for watching!

    Hoping to eventually make a custom stick themed to my favorite doujin Speedcore label. As part of the theming I want to build in a set of speakers powerful enough to play their music. I may as well go for a custom button layout as well since it would already require a custom enclosure. I have never built a fully custom stick before. Thankfully I have a number of large empty cardboard boxes I can use to prototype some ideas when I am ready to start building. Wish I could go to EVO, but I will be watching online from home when I am not working.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I believe you can get that conversion harness at all those main places I mention in the beginning and it should work just fine on a V3. With that lever though, you can also use a switch plate to 5-pin like you see at 6:44 to get the same effect (though I suppose it matters in regard to which switches you're using). A BitBang Shuriken will also serves that function and is probably easier to get than those V3 switch plates, IDK. So at least you've got a few good options. Good luck with the build.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I just used a standard USB C-A as you said. I think I picked up that one from Amazon, in a basic package of more appropriately sized ones that I have already used. I think it was 16" but really, you probably only need ~10" or less, though to some extent it depends where you mount you PCB. Most Brook boards have a USB B connection, however, so good to know if you aren't going with one of these advanced breakout boards. Anyway, thanks for watching and best of luck with your build! Can you make a custom board with just the lever and use your keyboard for the buttons?
    I’m thinking of getting into arcade sticks and the lever seems like the main thing to get used to so I wanna try it out just using my keyboard for buttons.

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm sure you could, but I doubt it will be an efficient/ cost-effective solution (really, you need a single device that does everything and not try to mix and match peripherals to operate at the same time on the same system). I would probably just look into some similar(ish) existing product, maybe something like the RAC-J800KK, and then inquire to the business if you can get a lever hole cut into the left input side rather than the arrow key/ WASD stuff. That's just one thought, but you have an atypical issue, so there aren't true "easy" solutions imo. You could also use a lot of this guide and install keyboard buttons instead of the arcade ones you saw here. Good luck in the hunt though! And thanks for watching!

      Hey, thanks! Brook has good products, just a bit on the expensive side IMO. The latency is fairly comparable in the grand scheme of things with both being very fast. I think Brook claims 0.4ms latency but their sample size was pretty small, so I took it with a grain of salt. If you want to see performance of the GP2040-CE, they have a ton of data on their website: gp2040-ce.info/ Just scroll down to the "GP2040-CE v0.7.8 Firmware Latency Test Results" to download a spreadsheet of all their testing data. A Sanwa JLF/JLX is already about the lowest price point lever we can tap. We could change the buttons to Sanwa or Hori for some reduced cost. I have an older video about a "shadow fightstick" where I try to give tips on where you can cut corners to reduce the overall price of a build. Maybe worth looking into to see where you can save. But if you can get an enclosure for cheap, that will go a long way toward keeping the money down. As far as other arcade part suppliers outside the US, I'm not overly familiar with them. Might be worth looking into Bermonch, BattleMonkey, Satsui Customs, Wallcade, TR Fight Stick to see where they get their supplies. Good luck in the build!

    ONLY 1 QUESTION ! WHY all fightsticks have the buttons positioned in the right hand ?? PLZ create one with the buttons positioned on the left hand, WE ARE NOT JAPANESE !!. At my country (Greece) ALL ARCADES HAVE COMPLETELY OPOSITE LAYOUT(BUTTONS-STICK) that the whole internet presents !!

    • @HushMySweet1
      @HushMySweet1  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's pretty interesting, but it would still be just the same as you see here. Get an appropriate layout (joystick on the right for you), and then plug in all the wires and buttons. The joystick should be the exact same because a left will still be a left no matter the side. Then your buttons would go opposite of what you see here so your lightest ones would be closest to the lever. So still pretty close all things considered.
