"this algorithm is a pile of shit" this is why I quit magic arena. It is TOO rigged. Its like they dont even try to hide their rigging. Last month I created a Baral brawl deck and the algorithm set me up against GRENZO, on the draw, 4 times in a row. Honestly when I play MTG Arena I feel like 80% of the game is decided not by my insights and ability and timing, but by the algorithm setting me up to win or setting me up to lose the game. I still enjoy watching some creators though.
Ulalek does struggle, especially in the 1v1 or when it gets focussed. I know playing Commander on Spelltable a lot of the Ulalek decks run a ton of interaction to protect their board, even if they don't slot in the Eldrazi Titans. I do agree that the back-up commander is much scarier and much easier to take advantage of.
@@MTGJosh right, I think the idea is to have specific synergy in place before you drop the Ulalek, unfortunately that means you probably need other eldrazi titans to draw hate away so Ulalek can do it's thing. Arenas also really limited in what it can and cannot do, which unfortunately hurts Ulalek even more, less options in colorless/devoid means the intended mechanocs just dont worl properly.
Couldn’t agree more with all of your thoughts Josh! I have yet to see this commander shine in brawl it just seems like an incredibly underwhelming card, every time I see someone build a deck around this card it’s never correct and it never “goes off” properly. Thanks for the great laugh m8 looking forward to more of these stinkers!
there is a reason there isnt a single meta deck for this, commander is brutal. but in brawl standard and brawl, youll win less than 1% of games including people going afk
Its an commander, but you cant run any of the weaker eldrazi, even if they have synergy with ulalek. Just gotta go 5c ramp pile with some powerful eldrazi in there. Prismatic bridge works better for the same deck though, so i get what u sayin. Basically only good bcuz access to 5c
ulalek is good for edh because it allows eldrazi players to include more in their decks, especially because it being 4 players makes removal far worse and only used when 100% necessary, making it much more likely to stick around. ulalek in 1v1 formats like brawl is going to always be worse because that worry disappears and the decks "best case" plan involves 2 copies of ulalek and a copyable mana trigger that all fizzle when one piece of the combo dies or is countered. It really shouldnt be rated as even playable in brawl if im being honest, but in actual edh it can definitely do some work due to the key difference in the formats.
I think Ulalek is good but really needs set up. Its stats are very underwhelming and a bit slow, but the ability can be so powerful. When it does survive, I've really been able to pop off and just win in a single turn or two. I think it's a fun commander but with the power level of Brawl, especially right now, it's too slow. I just play it when I wanna have some eldrazi fun :)
I wish I could help you see the good points in that Commander, but maybe you right - it IS a pirate ship (and not the kind you find pirates or rogues on)
@@MTGJosh You know, I wouldn't assume that you have watched DBZ - but I imagine that you at least knew of Goku in some context, when you hear of people "going Super Saiyan"
having a "win more" card in your command zone really is a recipe for a shit deck, really a deck with this guy at the helm should only use it as a finisher
