- A great example of Offensive vs Defensive play. Resonance22 casts an expert Age of Empires II game where DauT's constant raiding and forwards put a strong rush against Vinchester. Can Vinchester survive DauT's heavy offense? This game is from the Euro Cup Rise of the Rajas new expansion tournament. In this match we get to watch the Aoe2 pros (DauT and Vinchester) play as the Celts civilization, with even a few Woad Raiders.

Videos like this are one of the reasons I bought the game 3 weeks ago. I totally suck at aoe2, and sometimes I hate to play because I feel too overwhelmed and lost, but when I see a match like this one, with the added extra value of commentaries it just makes me wanna play so bad. So much going on, so much depth and liberty in the way you want to approach the game make this game so thrilling!

That was a fantastic game and it was really impressive to see the woad raiders killing everything as well as burning down town centers.
And that was from a really pressured position against cannons and trebuchets. Really really fierce celts there.

I just looked up "gg" in a dictionary and it had a link to this video in it. ;-)
In the Woad Raiders vs Hand Cannoneers fight that ultimately ended up swinging the game in Vinchester's favor, I think a big reason why the Woad Raiders came out on top is the insane amount of overkill on the HCs. They kill a Woad Raider in 4 shots so there was probably a lot of wasted damage, and they take longer than something like a Crossbowman to reload, so they weren't able to kill enough Woad Raiders fast enough before the Woads closed in and killed them all.
Which I guess is just another super cool aspect of AoE2's balance when it comes to counters and the like.
yea i think there should be an upgrade which is called improved ai. But i actually dont know exactely how it works allready. Is is really just shooting at the nearest target taking no thouhgt about owerkill? then a good strat vs brits would be making a tight line og solders in front and then the rest as a pack behind. They will only shoot at nearest (or what?). so each volley will only kill 1 soldier like this. Usually just that there is a kinda line as a front will make it so that they will shoot different targets. (yes i am aware this willl be a lot of micro) but if you are making 1 push it might be worth it
in mass you shouldn't focus fire with any unit unless dealing with something expansive and strong

I know right! Both games are really difficult but I think that's why people keep playing them. What makes Age of Empires 2 so special to me is that it's still really fun to play badly. Players of all skills can have fun in it just the way it's designed. :)
I hate how "pro" players always use the tiny trees mod. Play with full-sized trees, you cowards.
