I remember doing something akin to this with undead towers way back in highschool during a lan contest hosted by the computer class teacher, with the prize being a 20$ coupon, and the funniest is I didn't even really want to join nor cared enough to win, I just did it out of the blue, managed to drag on the fight for so long the teacher had to call it a ''draw'' and claim the victor by the amount of points generated, and by sheer luck I actually won by a few hundred points. Boy was that high ego nerd who gloated about being the best at the game genuinely livid, one of the only good memories I have of highschool.

I did something similar in a Warcraft 2 match in the late 90s. But I built 9 towers surrounding the town hall and then waited until I had enough resources to upgrade them all to cannon towers in one go so my opponent wouldn't get attack notifications until they were all well underway. Decimated his town. We were both human so he didn't notice the color difference in the buildings.

Beside Grubby's excellent game play, I love his interpretation of the game. The analogy between getting tower rushed and reading gloomy news are so relatable. It taught me game and life lessons at the same time.
It's a dire situation, I have a friend who I tower rushed in aoe2 and he never played the game after. He was trapped in tc his villagers could not go out and build anything without being shot to death :(

I used to have an 80% winrate with this on the old Punder Isle. Vs Human and Undead I'd have to change it up a bit though, human I'd try to hide them and go spikes.
This was awesome, the guy can surely cite a few ways he could have gone out of this, but there and then purely the psychological factor gave in and he failed. That's why playing with real people will forever be better than the most advanced ai.

I thought the entire idea of a tower rush was to build outside of vision and build towards base slowly. That way you can build bunkers, barracks near towers
Sometimes, but for the 3 peasant tower rush he was emulating, you build them right in their face, because it's too early for them to do anything about it, and that way it threatens them immediately. But it is typically done in Human vs. Night Elf

Second, you're probably better off sending all your units to their main base and killing all their peons. If you look back, 50% of grubby's peons were in front of the human's base. Third, building your own towers stops them from building towers.
Now imagine how the others people must feel. Top World player making fun and humilate low lvl people who wanna just have fun. Its like Mike Tyson going around street one punching random people because others have fun. ToD was right about this Grubster poor not anymore shining star.

The best way to stop a tower rush is to build towers of your own in the Frontline. They have same range, so your opponent won't be able to build forward. Then you get the artillery and hit safely from behind the towers.

when i played wc3 i used scorched earth tactic with the undead. slowly spreading out corruption with massive amounts of towers reducing the amount of usable land for other races more and more untill the enemy has no chance of winning left. its fun but takes forever and if the enemy finds out what youre doing early theyre almost guaranteed to rush you down.
tower rush with farseer gruntapult + a zepplin for treeline harass is devastating, especially against NE. a NE with a compromised treeline, is a leaky arse boat. especially with the burning oil upgrade. demolishers are nuts already, not to mention firing from fog of war at literal trees.

Also, I would build the altar and build a burrow there as well so I could bring my hero directly into the fight, and avoid target fire against peons.

I was so good too, could beat all my friends, many of them vs me, was destroying elo, and that one match. I was so badly defeated.... I was a teenager who paid for videos on how to play better and no life that game! I think a high level RTS match can do that. one thorough destruction of your pysche and it's quit time.
Probably the best tower cheese i ever had done to me is they built.towers to annoy me and box me in, but they had 1 or 2 peons chop down trees and tbey slowly built a path to my gold mine, and they built.towers behind a treeline so i couldnt see them, then they ran some peons into my base and the towers started killing my workers. I've also seen this work with night elves
I liked more dark elves tower assalut, wich was hard to pull of, but when executed correctly, you catch your oponent off guard. You build like five towers in the back side of oponents Village forest and then eat through and root them in the centre.

Funny thing was , he was not locked - 2 free exits. Just counteratack and digin in the main base. Thats how you counter this.

Orc towers have more range than human towers right? So in this case it would the same as building a farm. It wouldn’t help.
