The big difference with eating out in Japan is that there are usually tons of great, cheap restaurants at the big train stations. Restaurants in quieter places without the amount of foot traffic might easily be double the price of ones that are inside, or next to, a station.

@@fulltimeabroad shin-Osaka station is one of the weirdest ones. There are almost 40 food outlets past the ticket gates. If you are not travelling on a local train, you can't get to them! There are only about a dozen outside the ticket gates, but you can find tonkatsu with curry and rice for about 1000 yen there.

the first time I visited Japan I was SURPRISED how inexpensive Food was there (except Fruits, expensive!) compared to the US. I always heard Japan was super expensive but it is not at all. AND it is Super Clean and the Japanese people are Very Civilized.
About finding good eating places in Japan on google maps - I noticed that the rating depended on the level of how sugary foods they served. So the best places usually have a rating around 3. I guess people who are more tech savvy are also more into unhealthy western diets and usually rate unhealthy foods higher.
It nice to get 50% off, but after some time you realize that eating that late is not healthy. Although, it seems an attractive deal. Sushi and sashimi are ok, they will not be so heavy in evening.
Japan is one of the cheapest developed countries to eat out in the world, so I don't understand why you start the video like this... Usually most restaurants are $4-8 for a big meal...

thats interesting. We noticed how low the ratings are for places here, so we figured something around 3 would be good.
I was looking at the prices, and thinking how cheap it was! If you think Japan is expensive, dont come to Australia. Prices are crazy right now.
