    The big difference with eating out in Japan is that there are usually tons of great, cheap restaurants at the big train stations. Restaurants in quieter places without the amount of foot traffic might easily be double the price of ones that are inside, or next to, a station.

      Thanks for the info. We're in Yao and the restaurants near the station aren't too expensive, but they aren't cheap. We'll check them out in Osaka. Thanks for the tip and for watching.

      @@fulltimeabroad shin-Osaka station is one of the weirdest ones. There are almost 40 food outlets past the ticket gates. If you are not travelling on a local train, you can't get to them! There are only about a dozen outside the ticket gates, but you can find tonkatsu with curry and rice for about 1000 yen there.

    Thanks, guys! I had no idea those prices existed in Japan. I always thought it was super expensive. Definitely something to consider for my (hopefully) upcoming trip! 🙏

      Thanks for watching and your comment. We were also surprised and happy at the same time. It's nice to know we don't need to spend all our money on food

    Another great and informative video. We are set for 2026 start to full time slow travel but doing the work while travel most trips for now. Türkiye coming up in late November for two weeks! We love your grocery vs cooking vs eating out content as we feel we are fairly similar to you. We are roughly 80% cook and 20% eat out when we are traveling abroad. Find the grocery deals to both eat healthy and help us afford to eat out. Thanks again for the great video. Enjoy Japan!

      Thank you for watching! We're hard to please in restaurants, probably because we love to cook and expect things a certain way. We lower expectations when we eat out, but nothing like eating a home cooked meal!

    the first time I visited Japan I was SURPRISED how inexpensive Food was there (except Fruits, expensive!) compared to the US. I always heard Japan was super expensive but it is not at all.
    AND it is Super Clean and the Japanese people are Very Civilized.

    About finding good eating places in Japan on google maps - I noticed that the rating depended on the level of how sugary foods they served. So the best places usually have a rating around 3. I guess people who are more tech savvy are also more into unhealthy western diets and usually rate unhealthy foods higher.

    • @fulltimeabroad
      @fulltimeabroad  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thats interesting. We noticed how low the ratings are for places here, so we figured something around 3 would be good.

    I was looking at the prices, and thinking how cheap it was! If you think Japan is expensive, dont come to Australia. Prices are crazy right now.

      Japan isnt expensive, however if you really wanna spend all your money in one place, buy a mango here.

    It nice to get 50% off, but after some time you realize that eating that late is not healthy. Although, it seems an attractive deal. Sushi and sashimi are ok, they will not be so heavy in evening.

    Japan is one of the cheapest developed countries to eat out in the world, so I don't understand why you start the video like this...
    Usually most restaurants are $4-8 for a big meal...

      We mention in the video that we are full time slow travelers and eating out everyday is not budget friendly for us, regardless of how affordable some meals are.
