I would like to see a series on the most expensive grocery stores from other countries and then a summary video comparing and declaring the world’s best!
It isn't even that unattainable. They actually accept EBT ( food stamps) so ALL kinds of different people from various financial backgrounds shop there. I live near one and it's all social media hype via paid influencers.
People whining act like somehow this place is comitting a crime by supplying a legal product to people that are willing to buy it. Many of the people here are the same that go and buy an iPhone, get Starbucks, drive 35 thousand dollars cars and wear nothing but mall clothes.
Ego & Status- It’s all about social hierarchy. “I can afford the best, I’m successful.” That’s why they show off the brand name. The envy of others is fuel to their fire ⛽️🔥
In 1975 Cadillac came out with their first smaller car, the Seville. It was the most expensive car in the line, more than the Eldorado convertible or Fleetwood Brougham let alone the mass-market DeVilles. They very carefully priced it at the top of the line because they feared the perception it would be seen as a "junior" Caddy. Pricing for position is nothing new.
Refusing to pay too much is nothing new either. I retired 17 years before full retirement age, and it was NOT by accident. It was primarily due to frugality.
I also heard about this store and wanted to see for myself. So glad I was able to visit this store before seeing this video. Yes their brand items are higher priced but they also have other food brands that are about the same as other store chains. There were plenty of items that the middle class citizen could afford but I was very curious about those smoothies. The only reason I didn’t get one was because there was a 15 minute wait.
Yes. If you get fresh food or the occasional healthy canned low salt food, etc. you can get LOTS of food for a reasonable price. The main challenge there is protein. And even there, things like eggs, chicken, some nuts and cheese, etc. can be had reasonably IF you consume that in moderation. Oh, and that sort of thing is a HELL of a lot healthier and cheaper than eating out, especially at fast food places.
This chain reminds me of the old-fashioned "Health food" store my mother favored. Very expensive, but there was rare a large assortment of rare honey, like (pale green) lime blossom, and types of grains not found elsewhere in the area.
I fully support Erewhon's business plan- if you're stupid enough waste soo much money on goods that are no where near worth those prices, you deserve to be ripped off. Well done!
Another one on my list of "would only shop there if I had to" like Whole Foods, Mollie Stone and Rainbow Grocery. I'm all for eating or trying to eat healthier, but not when I'm told by a merchant only if I spend $$$!
At least at a genuine Korean grocery, you could get lots of things different than, say, Kroger's stuff. And you can get lots of reasonable prices on things (not always, but lots).
The hand soap in my bathroom pump is also crafted essential oils: Palmolive Pure & Clear Unscented + Clary Sage and Geranium Essential Oils. People love the hand soap and ask where I get it, I love their faces when I tell the its floofed up dish soap.
There's LOTS of cheap soap with fancy names and labels which just has a little perfume in it, etc. Just comparison shop and don't go to insane places to shop.
Willing to bet an Erewhon smoothie that most who shop there are lower to medium middle class. Those are the demographics most concerned with appearing riche. They're also shopping at Christian Dior and such places. They'll spend about every discretional dollar they have to do that.
There are so many brands there that are available at Kroger, Thrive Market, and online. The markup at this store is ridiculous! I’ve bought same size brand of maple syrup from Amazon for half the price. This store is purely a status symbol and nothing else.
So glad the rich can waste money on crap like this when so many others in America are starving and in need of support that they could have gotten for the cost of their hand soap. Thanks for the video! I'm depressed now.
People should go there and haggle the prices down; find comprable items at Whole Foods or another Supermarket and basically be persistent enough to get them to match their competitors price.
Good luck with that theory with zero evidence. Argue for a flat earth and anti-vaxxing while you're at it. Or use your time constructively, and just go to a sane supermarket chain's stores.
Craziest experience I had at Erewhon was seeing a mob outside for this metal detox smoothie at the Culver City location. People FLEW across the country for this. I just wanted to meet up with a friend for his birthday lol.
I’m from the Bay Area and I went to Southern California. It’s totally worth it. I had the Hailey Bieber smoothie and the buffalo cauliflower and it was so good.

If you think you’re so much better than higher earners, then why don’t you show that you’re smarter and play the same game to show that you can win?
I think it’s because you’re not able to make enough though.
@@claireconover isn't Stop and Shop a convenience store?
I shopped at the LA Erewhon in the 70’s when it was one of the few health food stores around. Prices were normal then. Good times!
Who in their right mind would shop there?
The only possible reason to do that is to show off wealth and apparent stupidity in money management.
Pretty much all the rich suckers and I agree with the narrator this store makes whole foods look like the Dollar tree😂
@@ladynikkie That's right on that since no one normal would be there and if that Falling Down character D-FENS hit this he'd really lose his mind here.
Sadly, in the US there's PLENTY of that. Big houses, fancy cars, fancy clothes, and on and on and on.
@@rogergeyer9851 Nowadays that's more and more the FACTS!!
I just knew there would be a bunch of dumb hicks like yourself and others, who’d shit on this place became they think their “country” but the reality is that they probably live less than an hour drive from some Midwestern city.
I don’t go there, but I make more than enough to go there, and I just love that y’all can’t afford it so you take offense to it.
You’re clearly not the demographic so who gives a fuck what your poor ass thinks?
It’s even funnier if you hate this business because you’re a republican, I thought y’all supported capitalism and the free market?
Wonder if they accept food stamps?
Yes, they do! That's the one fact I looked up after I watched.
I feel like every place in alaska is priced like this as well😢
At least there it's because of scarcity.
I've heard the same thing about Australia.
At least in Alaska (though you exaggerate), there's a REASON. To have to FLY everything up there a long way from normal distribution channels through almost the whole year (snow season) is EXPENSIVE. And you need things like fresh plant food through the winter to remain healthy.
If you don't like high expenses, you should NOT live in expensive places like Alaska and MANY US cities.
@@ingridfong-daley5899 i’m from singapore & found the groceries in australia much cheaper than my country 😂
@@share_accidental no kidding?
wow...
Befoe the video even started, I KNEW they'd be located in California.
It started in Boston, according to the wiki. ;)
Not everyone wants to live in the sticks like you do.😂

They used to sell themselves as all organic vs Whole Foods but they are not all organic and in some cases they sell the exact same product as Whole Foods for twice as much!
HUSBAND: Where are you gonna buy some groceries?
WIFE: At nowhere
I would like to see a series on the most expensive grocery stores from other countries and then a summary video comparing and declaring the world’s best!
I think this is the greatest example that all you need is really good marketing and people will buy whatever overpriced junk you have
Some people. Deal with reality more than spin.
"A fool and his money are soon parted.", Ben Franklin circa 1780
It isn't even that unattainable. They actually accept EBT ( food stamps) so ALL kinds of different people from various financial backgrounds shop there. I live near one and it's all social media hype via paid influencers.
I had never heard of this store. The people who go here should be ashamed.
It's no worse than spending a grand each month on a car lease or whatever other nonsense my fellow L.A.ians waste their money on.
“I can afford the best, I’m successful.”
That’s why they show off the brand name.
The envy of others is fuel to their fire ⛽️🔥
A fool and his money are soon parted... a sucker is born every minute. Profiteering
Why does this store even exist? $100 will make you less than 5 meals at these rates.
Supply and demand, bud. These stores exist and stay in business due to the idiots, with cash, who patronize them.
@@Limewire1984 just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to act jealous.😂

In 1975 Cadillac came out with their first smaller car, the Seville. It was the most expensive car in the line, more than the Eldorado convertible or Fleetwood Brougham let alone the mass-market DeVilles. They very carefully priced it at the top of the line because they feared the perception it would be seen as a "junior" Caddy. Pricing for position is nothing new.
Refusing to pay too much is nothing new either. I retired 17 years before full retirement age, and it was NOT by accident. It was primarily due to frugality.
I've only been in a Whole Foods once, I felt like I was amongst the rich. Can't imagine stepping in this place.
“ Little Old Lady from Pasadena” isn’t by The Beach Boys…it’s by Jan and Dean
I also heard about this store and wanted to see for myself. So glad I was able to visit this store before seeing this video. Yes their brand items are higher priced but they also have other food brands that are about the same as other store chains. There were plenty of items that the middle class citizen could afford but I was very curious about those smoothies. The only reason I didn’t get one was because there was a 15 minute wait.
A $20 smoothie? I spent about $8 on food for the ENTIRE day. I'll pass.
Jesus Christ you’re broke, goddamn just earn 6 figures, it’s really not that difficult
Just borrowed the book from my library, might be interesting.
Would probably be a million bucks at the store.😂
I think it's reasonable to assume any books in an Erewhon shopper's home were procured as decor by their interior/set designer.
I drive past the Studio City location and can confirm it is always packed. I think they charge for parking too.
Keeps the riff-raff out!
I have shopped at Erewhon a few times. It has some really nice things, but the prices keep me away.
This chain reminds me of the old-fashioned "Health food" store my mother favored. Very expensive, but there was rare a large assortment of rare honey, like (pale green) lime blossom, and types of grains not found elsewhere in the area.
The shorthand to point out the affluent parts of town for visitors to L.A., is to spot the location of each Erewon store on your map.
I fully support Erewhon's business plan- if you're stupid enough waste soo much money on goods that are no where near worth those prices, you deserve to be ripped off. Well done!
I could be a billionaire and still not have the audacity to go shopping there. Downright ridiculous place for pretentious people to be pretentious at.
My favorite narrator! Coupled with witty writing, you would be hard pressed not to find these videos entertaining, and engaging. Bravo WH peeps 👏
It's a hippie store. I used to go to one in grassvalley ca. You'll feel good about shopping healthy but expensive indeed.
When you have too much disposable income.
They take food stamps.
They might as well remove the prices 😂
as long as this grocery store exist, and ppl are able to shop there.., I’m good
I'm sure it's been said, but can we talk about how 'Erewhon' is an anagram for 'nowhere?' Guess the rich gonna rich
Another one on my list of "would only shop there if I had to" like Whole Foods, Mollie Stone and Rainbow Grocery. I'm all for eating or trying to eat healthier, but not when I'm told by a merchant only if I spend $$$!
The band that sang little old lady from Pasadena was called Jan and Dean. It was not the beach boys. Anyhow.
I worked near the Los Angeles location in the early 90s. Didn't know any of the stuff that happened more recently!
First time I heard about this store I thought it was another korean grocery store like H-mart
At least at a genuine Korean grocery, you could get lots of things different than, say, Kroger's stuff. And you can get lots of reasonable prices on things (not always, but lots).
TBF, I know a few people who work there and they apparently treat their employees very well
“If you like to eat…” No, I need to eat, and the prices of groceries is a real problem and it’s not okay. 😡
In the real world, 2.5% inflation is LOW. But I know, you have MAGA memes to sell.
Be thankful this chain only exists in Los Angeles County. At least for now.
I’d love a video on Waitrose, I really don’t get what makes it stand out beside being expensive and slightly more organic focused
Love Erewhon ❤ I’m there once a week. The smoothies are great
I find this flippin hilarious! 😂😂😂
The hand soap in my bathroom pump is also crafted essential oils: Palmolive Pure & Clear Unscented + Clary Sage and Geranium Essential Oils. People love the hand soap and ask where I get it, I love their faces when I tell the its floofed up dish soap.
Brilliant
One day we'll be shopping for those shoppers, y'know what I mean?
Thanks for this! 🥑
1:55 Chlorophyl? More like Borophyl.
Hahahahaha!! SHUT UPPPPPP!
💯
NO I WILL NOT MAKE OUT WITH YOU!!
Costco was selling that maple syrup for like 16.99
Craziest experience I had at Erewhon was seeing a mob outside for this metal detox smoothie at the Culver City location. People FLEW across the country for this. I just wanted to meet up with a friend for his birthday lol.
I can't believe people are stupid enough to throw their money out the window like this but apparently they are. 🤦🏻
There was an Erehwon health food store in Cambridge, MA, in the ‘70s.
Oh I'd definitely pop by. That green apple jasmine soda sounded divine
Reminds me of this experiment where a guy made a fake five star restaurant and serves people instant ramen and fools bought into the hype...
I’m from the Bay Area and I went to Southern California. It’s totally worth it. I had the Hailey Bieber smoothie and the buffalo cauliflower and it was so good.
my new ultra expensive grocery store idea: sdoof elohw (copyright, do not steal. this isn't part of the name btw)
I grew up going to Erewhon in Los Angeles. You literally chose one or two items you really want and that’s it 😂
Little Old Lady from Pasadena is by Jan and Dean, not The Beach Boys.
They were a (sort of) competing sound a like surf rock band from the same time who captured the same high pitched voice and overall beach boys sound. Might actually be worth doing a regular weird history episode on them, I think one joined The Beach Boys years later
I only wish I’d thought of cashing in on the stupid people first. My mom had a saying “more money than brains”. Just wish I’d capitalized on it first.
A store I will never set foot in. Don't need to be around all those stuck up superficial people.
The TomBumble, smooth, peanut butter flake chocolates from there are really good. that's about all the money I was willing to spend.
