Frieren also subverts the role of "the wise / the teacher" that many mages have in most stories

Frieren is a genuinely invigorating show when it comes to bringing value from places people often find only disgrace. I think, in that regard, it carries the legacy of Lord of the rings well. It genuinely made me feel like even in my flaws there is value, as if it wasn't for the mistakes I made and what I learned from that, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Because what makes something more valuable? A person innately being good or the person who had to work with their nature to do good?
I think the value we place on talent and untainted virtue comes from a lacking relationship with a core part of what makes us humans and the more animalistic side of that. We want an easy life because that satisfies our immediate needs, but as a species it has been seen time and time again that we do not value things that become easy, because they become normal and our brains want more to satisfy the craving. We are predators, just like lions and jaguars and snakes and many more. The hunt is in our nature, and we need to struggle, even if people don't want to recognize that. There is a reason why predators and other animals of the same nature have the necessity to play, that's how they learn to hunt and feel satisfaction with their meal. From what I've felt within myself and seen, humans are very much the same way. But two things can be true at once. Talent is very much real and valuable, but I think that without hard work and skill talent can't truly flourish. It should be nurtured as the potencial it is, not venerated as a final product. And what Frieren does with that idea, in my opinion, is bring the idea that we have the capacity to take our talents and flaws, and nourish both together to surpass our limitations. I don't think it advocates to the idea of "you can do anything", because from what I seen, it doesn't, but more so "If you have a goal, use what you've got along side hard work and innovation to create something new". And I think that is a much more hopeful message than a blind leap of faith.
Lovely video, can't wait to see more. 😄

Honestly, your channel is underrated. I found you through the Denji deep dive and I thought I was strange for the way I saw the show amidst all the hype and "omg, look at the action!". You strike me as someone who might have gone through some tough times yourself and are able to relate somewhat. You have gained one more sub and my respect, keep up the great work and although you'll likely never see this, I hope to have a conversation with you one day
