It's so nice to see Clue become more popular in recent years than it ever was while in theaters. It really came and went with a whimper at the box office. But, to be fair, we are talking about an era of movies that were consistently good. Cant wait to see how you two enjoy all the witty banter and the national treasure that is Ms Madelyn Kahn. "Flames on the side of my face" might just be the greatest improv ever caught on celluloid.
Good call on the “Flames” bit. I’ve loved that performance since I was a kid, long before I learned it was improvised. I also love her little countermelody during “For she’s a jolly good fellow”, especially that high note near the end of the group singing it.
@@arandomnamegoeshere Indeed, which is unfortunate, cause I appreciate the risk they took. But imagine you go and you get only the "Ms Peacock kills everyone" ending...I mean, its significantly weaker than the other two...you would have come away with a worse movie and you never see the "flames on side of the face"...then you wait for it to come on cable and see the version you WISH you'd seen.
Madelyn Kahn is awesome! Would absolutely love you guys to check out What's Up Doc with her, Barbra Streisand and the late Ryan O'Neal... quite possibly the funniest film ever!!!
Before Clue ( the movie) there was an older, equally star studded hilarious murder mystery called "Murder By Death." It's a whodunnit that like Clue you'll never guess the ending! It's naughty, funny, tense, and fun. Hope you'll check it out too! Eileen Brennan (Mrs. Peacock) also starred in it. It was hilarious with so many jokes and one-liners.
"It's a matter of life after death. He died and I got a life." Madeline Kahn steals this movie and every film she's in. That and the "flames on the side of my face" speech are some of my favorite lines from any film. Also, Tim Curry is hilarious running from room to room during his reveals, but he's also being true to the board game. In the game, if you want to make an accusation, you have to be in the room where you are saying that it happened. I love that detail.
Despite the talent of the people they were forbidden to ad lib because the people in charge felt that it would mess up the flow of the show. Madeline Kahn ad libbed the flames line and it got left in because everyone liked it so much. The people that got jammed up in the doors and stairs are a throwback to the game because two people can’t enter a room or stairway at the same time.
Her scenes are also the best on rewatch because you pick up all the little things she does with her character in the background, like during the dinner scene with her knife. 😂
Yes! Madeleine Khan was such a funny and wonderful actress! I had such a crush on her when I was a kid in the 70's/80's. She just had a way of speaking that makes you laugh even when she wasn't trying to be funny. She also delivered lines in unique and consequently hilarious ways. She was just a naturally funny lady! Like you said, it didn't matter how large or small her role in a movie, the moment she came on screen she just stole the movie. I remember a short-lived TV sitcom in which she starred. I think it was called "O, Madeleine" or something like that. Just love her. We lost her too soon and she was too young.
One thing I don't often see pointed out is that in the game, your can't overtake another piece. (Example: if one is in a doorway, you can't go through that door until that piece moves.) They did that in this movie up until Wadsworth starts running around explaining the murders. Any time the characters try to pass each other, they collide. Or when Scarlet and Mustard try to slide past each other. Once you notice, you see it happening all over. Funny/sad passage of time note. The movie came out in '85 but based in '54. If this movie came out now, in '24, it would be based in the '93...
The script for Clue was very tightly written, they didnt want any improv. Well Madeline forgot her lines in the "Flames" scene and compleyely improved the whole thing. The director liked it enough he left it in.
And his band called fear was the musical guests for Saturday night live in the late 70s, his band along with the crowd. Are responsible for trashing the stage on live television
This movie is ICONIC! It's absolutely just the most fun I've ever had watching a movie, ever, and it NEVER loses that fun, no matter how many times I watch it. Also, the entire main cast are brilliant, but Madeline Khan is just on a whole different level here. Her and Tim Curry are my favourites by far, which is actually saying a lot for me because I love them all.
After all these years I still like the Miss Scarlet ending the most. It makes the most sense of the evidence. But I do love Mrs White’s melt down about Evette in the third ending.
The singing telegram girl was played by Jane Weidlin who was a member of the group The Gogos. I worked with Tim Curry on an episode of the short-lived remake of the tv series Family Affair. He played the butler in that too. Michael McKean (Mr Green) is a major part of This Is Spinal Tap.
Well, the good thing about having to re-upload this movie is that it kinda fits with this movie's rewatchability. You honestly cannot watch this movie too many times; there's always something funny to catch on multiple viewings. Fun reaction!
I've watched many of these reactions and you two were the first to guess Ms. Scarlet. Congratulations!!! BTW, each of the scenarios was used at individual theaters. I saw it at the theater and Ms. Scarlet was the culprit.
Lesley Ann Warren (Scarlet) played Norma Cassidy in the highly entertaining movie musical comedy Victor/Victoria (I highly recommend), and she was my first crush as a boy when I saw her on TV as the lead in the musical Cinderella. Madeleine Kahn (White) is in several Mel Brooks movies; always funny! Michael McKean (Green) I know from his playing Lenny on Laverne and Shirley (TV).
I feel like you guys would REALLY love The Thin Man. It's one of the best murder mysteries EVER. It has William Powell and Myrna Loy, and they absolutely CRUSH it. It's based on the novel by Dashel Hammnet, the same man who wrote The Maltese Falcon. They ended up making a film series out of it.
When released in theaters, EACH ending was singularly shipped out to different areas to avoid "spoilers." I think was a simple A, B, C, or D ending. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have fun playing Clue for a "Game night." :D
It was just A, B, or C. It was even printed in the showtimes listing which ending was at each theater so you could go to see all 3 endings. Great concept.

"Peacock had the knife, but they were never not together" ...he says when during the scene in the billiard room trying to calm Yvette down, *Mrs. Peacock was missing!!!*
I know it's been mentioned already but you should definitely watch "Murder By Death" It predates "Clue" by a few years but is definitely a must watch if you like that type of movie.
Most fans of the movie agree that the first ending truly makes the most sense as Miss Scarlet given her personality and occupation would make for a logical murderer more easily than the others since her motive was greed, among other things. The other two endings are fun little "what if scenarios" but I personally imagine in my head canon that the true ending is the first one. :-)

Hello guys! Here are some other great movies that some of the actors in this movie starred in that are worth a watch: Tim Curry (Wadsworth), "Legend" (1985), and "IT" (1990) (original Stephen King mini-series). Eileen Brennan (Mrs. Peacock), "Private Benjamin" (1980), and "Jeepers Creepers" (2001). Madeline Kahn (Mrs. White), "Young Frankenstein" (1974), and "Blazing Saddles" (1974). Michael McKean (Mr. Green), "This is Spinal Tap" (1984), and "Small Soldiers" (voice) (1998). Leslie Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet), "Cop" (1988) Colleen Camp (Evett), "Die Hard With A Vengeance" (1995), "Wicked Stepmother" (1989).
Thank you for reacting to this movie. Clue is now and will always be a classic comedy film that never gets old. Tim Curry especially was at the top of his game.
Fun Fact: All 6 people killed in every scenario, were each killed with a different weapon from the game *The Cook was stabbed with the knife *Mr. Boddy was struck in the head with the candlestick *The Driver was struck in the head with the wrench *Yvette was strangled with the rope *The Policeman was struck in the head with the lead pipe *The Singing Telegram Girl was shot with the revolver
The wordplay in Clue makes it worth watching over and over. It goes by so fast it's almost required to watch at least twice to catch most of the jokes. Almost everything Scarlet and White say is a double entendre, Wadsworth's insults are so sly, and Mr Green gets some hilarious quips.
The screenplay and delivery harkens back to the Golden Age of Hollywood screwball comedies, with the added dimension of being made in the 80's when you could push the envelope more than you could in the 40's/50's. It's lightening in a bottle. It shouldn't work, but it does.
Miss Scarlet was played by Lesley Ann Warren. She was in Victor/Victoria with Julie Andrews and James Garner. She was also in Cinderella many years ago, along with Happiest Millionaire.
Colonel Mustard is Martin Mull in Roseanne, and "mr ponytail man" in Jingle All the Way. I'm sure he's been in other probably bigger things, but that's just from where i know him.
The first role I saw him in was the Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman TV show, but he had a separate career before that as a (very wry and amusing) singer-songwriter.
This movie has some iconic one-liners. One of my favorites is said by Miss Scarlet. Mrs. Peacock: "So what does your husband do-" Miss White: "NOTHING!" Mrs. Peacock: "Nothing?" Miss White: "Well, he just...lies around on his back all day." Miss Scarlet (the call girl): "Sounds like hard work to me." 😂😂😂😂
When this movie was released in theaters, there were three endings, but each theater only got one of the endings. They only tied up all three on the VHS tapes (and other mediums later).
Thank you so much for reacting to this movie. I remember watching this during a camping trip as a teen and found this at the camping office where you can rent movies and I was surprised to see this dvd. Again thx for reacting.
I loved this movie when I was young, saw it several times in theaters (with the last ending, they sent out different versions). And when it came out on VHS tape, I wore this movie, and Labyrinth out. And I have watched probably hundreds of times, and it never stops being fantastic and funny! I had SUCH a huge crush on Tim Curry! One time I was watching with this some friends who were part of the local Rocky Horror Picture Show "cast" (the people who act it out) and one of them said "Hey! That's Dr. Frank N Furter in Rocky Horror!" Well, I'd been debating about going to RHPS, but that sealed the deal for me, and I went the next week. I'm not exaggerating when I say it changed my life for the better! And I still adore Tim Curry.
Fun Fact: The Girl who gets shot doing the singing telegram is Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Gos (the cute brunette). She also played Joan Of Arc in Bill & Teds
When this movie was released in theaters there were 3 different versions - with the 3 endings that you saw. The idea was that you wouldn't know which ending you would get when you went to see it, and they hoped people would go to see it multiple times to see all of the endings. Here in my part of Canada they were advertised in the newspaper as "Ending A", "Ending B", and "Ending C", so once you saw it once you'd know which of A, B and C you'd seen and which one to go see if you wanted to see all three. But I've heard stories of people in the States where it didn't specify in the advertisements which ending was at which theater, so just imagine someone watching the movie one time, then going to another theater to see it again - hoping to get one of the two other endings - and it turns out they get the same ending they've already seen. When Clue was released on video (and later DVD) all 3 endings were included in the movie - as you saw in this movie version.
So glad you guys were able to upload this! I didn’t get to see it in theaters but was able to watch it later on and love it. Just love all the multiple scenarios at the end.
You need to watch Murder By Death, another murder mystery comedy. Written by Neil Simon, it spoofs the worlds greatest sleuths from literature and the movies. Very funny. It also features famed writer, Truman Capote in a rare acting roll.
Fun facts... Clue (or Cluedo, in the UK) was released way back in 1949. It had simultaneous US and UK releases, and the original name Cluedo, which was a portmanteu of Clue and Ludo, another popular UK boardgame that Clueudo's board was based on, was shortened to Clue in the US as Ludo was not widely known over there. There were also a couple of character changes too... Mr Boddy in the US, was Dr Black in the UK and Mr Green was Reverand Green in the UK. Curiously though, in both versions, Mrs White was the cook...but they changed her for the movie...
When this movie was in theaters, each theater had a different ending. Some of the bigger ones, had all three, but showed different endings at different times. It was a wild movie...
I strongly recommend movie versions of at least a few Agatha Christie novels. You both would LOVE them! Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Evil Under the Sun at least. Great films. Fun whodunits! Then, after, revisit ‘Clue’ territory with the 1976 comedy “Murder By Death”. Hilarious and fun….but far less for both if you’re not already familiar with what it is playing on.
It’s a dead heat which movie I’ve watched more than any other: Clue, or Aliens. Saw both in the theater as a kid, and have since watched them each (no exaggeration) a few hundred times. LOVE this film, and so happy to see it getting recognition after all these years!
This is the first reaction where the viewer figured out ONE of the endings. Bravo! Most people (including me) just give up and enjoy the ride because it becomes such a farce. But if you DO watch the movie again, yes you do notice characters missing when killings are happening off screen.
So this all makes more sense if you have played the game. The game is comprised of the group of characters portrayed, a "Body", the list of weapons, and the rooms this all just took place in. To win the game you have to figure out who was the murderer, what weapon was used and in what room. So you attempt to win the game buy making a guess such as "I think it was Mrs. Peacock in the Study with the lead pipe". So all of this was very familiar when you have played the game. As far as the end, when this movie came out in theaters, each theater was sent a copy of the movie with a different possible ending of the three you saw. So people would see a different outcome depending on where you saw it. My friends and I actually went to three different ones to see all three endings. It was very cool. This was also such an amazing cast of actors that were very popular for the time so it was really cool to see. This is also one of my favorite comic performances of Tim Curry.
I agree that Lesley Ann Warren looks a lot like Susan Sarandon. Love the "flames on the side of my face" improv by Madeline Khan -- always great to see her in absolutely anything.
Yes they are all named after colours. White is white; green is green; mustard is darker yellow; plum is a reddish purple; peacock is a turquoise; scarlet is red;
I love that every ending is completely possible! If you go back and watch each ending works. You might not think Peacock is as believable but for example Peacock is missing when they find Yvette and us missing along with Professor Plum in the Kitchen when they find the cook's body until they both just randomly appear at the kitchen door. It's genius.
When this was released in theaters, it had a different ending for different theaters. So, you had to go to others places to see all three endings. When it came out on DVD, they released all three endings as you've seen. Leslie Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet) has played in a lot of TV shows and movies. She was an original Cinderella many years ago in a live action movie version. She was also great in a movie called Victor/Victoria starring Julie Andrews who plays a woman playing a man playing a woman. It's very good. A lot of twists and turns like Clue. You two should watch it soon.
😂 OK that makes a lot more sense! I was like I’m sure these guys have seen it. I’m pretty sure I’ve watched it not to mention the fact that they look younger or different hairstyle or something especially him what is going on??? And then I noticed the RE-upload😂
Scarlett was too blunt for me to suspect her. She was very open about being a horrendous piece of work. I love this movie. It's fast, smart, snappy humor. The cast is amazing and it's just a fun time. Glad you enjoyed it.
When I first saw this in theaters, I didn't know there were 3 endings. I only learned it later. I didn't get to see all three until they invented DVDs. It's one of my all time favorite comedies.

Thank you for reacting to this movie. Clue is now and will always be a classic comedy film that never gets old. Tim Curry especially was at the top of his game.
THANK YOU BOTH.
FOR BEING SO LOVELY & WARM.
IN A TIME WHEN SOME OF US NEED IT THE MOST.
ALL THE BEST IN THIS NEW YEAR FROM CHILLY SOUTH CAROLINA.
Cool that you reuploaded this, I don’t think I’ve seen this video before. Should be fun
Glad to re watch it again!
Fun Fact: All 6 people killed in every scenario, were each killed with a different weapon from the game
*The Cook was stabbed with the knife
*Mr. Boddy was struck in the head with the candlestick
*The Driver was struck in the head with the wrench
*Yvette was strangled with the rope
*The Policeman was struck in the head with the lead pipe
*The Singing Telegram Girl was shot with the revolver
The singing Telegram is played Jane Wiedlin who is the Guitar player from the Band The Go-Go's
YES! Love this movie so much. When it came out in theaters, different theaters had different endings (not all of them, just one).
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
The wordplay in Clue makes it worth watching over and over.
I remember this being at the small 6 screen theater in Houston. They had 4 screens showing the movie with endings A, B, C and D.
This is my favorite murder mystery movie, some of the funniest lines and twists.
One of my all-time favorite movies!! I watch it a few times every year. 😊
He's in Sabrina the Teenage Witch
This movie has some iconic one-liners. One of my favorites is said by Miss Scarlet.
Mrs. Peacock: "So what does your husband do-"
Miss White: "NOTHING!"
Mrs. Peacock: "Nothing?"
Miss White: "Well, he just...lies around on his back all day."
Miss Scarlet (the call girl): "Sounds like hard work to me." 😂😂😂😂
I had no clue that a lot of your videos had been taken down. Glad it's back up.
When this movie was released in theaters, there were three endings, but each theater only got one of the endings. They only tied up all three on the VHS tapes (and other mediums later).
Mr. Green (Michael McKean) was also in "Laverne and Shirley." He played Lenny.
One of my favourite films of all time. It's so perfect.
The singing telegram girl was Jane Wiedlin the guitarist from the GoGo's
Mr. Boddy is Ving Lee, lead singer of the punk band Fear.
@@Britcarjunkie interesting. I never heard of the group but have heard the name Ving Lee.
@@joek468 Not to be confused with the actor Ving Rhames. 🙂
Love this movie. When this was released in theaters, the three different endings were shown in different areas of the country.
I was about to say this lol
@@BJDevil20I knew I had to hurry to post this. 😃
Or two people who saw the movie separately without knowing they saw two different endings. "I guessed it was Miss Scarlett.". "WHAT!? No it wasn't!"
Oh you two should watch VICTOR VICTORIA! Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlett) is FANTASTIC in it. She’s a great singer and dancer too.
Michael McKean, who plays Mr Green, is also in Good Omens, he's Shadwell
Tim Curry turning on the shower in his face has me in knots every time 😂
Definitely one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I can recite it by heart.
Clue is amazing.
So glad you guys were able to upload this! I didn’t get to see it in theaters but was able to watch it later on and love it. Just love all the multiple scenarios at the end.
Michael Mckean also, I.e chuck from better call Saul.
i worked with Leslie Ann Warren on another project. She was lovely to everyone on set.
Classic film. Brilliant.
Hard to believe this came out the same year as Bank to the Futures! So happy to see one of my top 5 movies on your re-upload list. Love it!
I’ve always liked the joke where they all step in the dog shit. Funny stuff!
Wow, Samantha made me feel deceased when she said she thought the game was based on the film.
The first edition of Cluedo was published in 1949.
It’s a dead heat which movie I’ve watched more than any other: Clue, or Aliens. Saw both in the theater as a kid, and have since watched them each (no exaggeration) a few hundred times. LOVE this film, and so happy to see it getting recognition after all these years!
Holy cow. We are the same person. I’ve watched Aliens and Clue hundreds of times and can recite both of them from memory.
Tim Curry was brilliant in this movie. By far his most underappreciated performance.
I agree that Lesley Ann Warren looks a lot like Susan Sarandon. Love the "flames on the side of my face" improv by Madeline Khan -- always great to see her in absolutely anything.
Yes they are all named after colours.
White is white; green is green; mustard is darker yellow; plum is a reddish purple; peacock is a turquoise; scarlet is red;
Amazing movie, love the multiple ending choices.
In the movie theaters, you had to see the movie 3 times, to see all the endings.
Since you enjoyed this movie, you might want to check out "Murder by Death" (1976).
Apparently when released depending on the theater would change which actual ending viewers were shown
When I first saw this in theaters, I didn't know there were 3 endings. I only learned it later. I didn't get to see all three until they invented DVDs.
It's one of my all time favorite comedies.
The VHS release had all three endings as well. (The DVD release had a nice feature to randomize the ending like the theatrical release)
@@jrgilby Doh! I could have seen them earlier. lol
If you get the DVD it has the option of playing the endings in random just like in the theaters.
