The earthquake effects in the director's cut of this film were absolutely top notch
Hurricanes, earthquakes, and Michael Bay. That's America 🇺🇸
Kent Shocknek is proud of your reaction to the Earthquake
😂😂😂😂😂
Now they should watch the John Goodman movie "Matinee!", lol.
this movie had a directors cut? how im finding this now?
The fact that they put the quake on video without editing..
This couple is a legend
Fortunately they didn't go to Burning Man😱
Having an earthquake IRL while watching a space shuttle about to explode? That's like 4D cinema.
Seeing Bruce Willis just makes me sad since he struggling with frontotemporal dementia now. Always enjoyed his movies. It's a shame we won't see anymore work from Bruce.
theres still a gazillion Direct-To-Streaming lowbudget shitpieces with him to watch.... feels like he did 1000 movies the last couple years before his diagnosis.
We all get old. Arnie, Sly, Bruce, Kurt.... They all got old. No matter what they would need to start with acting. To be honest all of them should have stopped in early 2000s.
@@IH8YH low budget shitpieces I've never heard that one it's like the opposite of big screen hit 😂
That final scene between Harry & AJ never fails to tear me up 🥹👍🏽
Same.
It's the head astronaut shaking the daughters hand at the end....😢
That scene and then Wade's death in Saving Private Ryan are the 2 that never fail to make me 😢
Think I've seen this film 20 times. I know whats coming at the end and it still brings tears to my eyes
Can't believe you are having an earthquake while watching Armageddon! Too much! The look you guys had was priceless. I live in Southern California also and know which quake happened during the hurricane. Glad it was just a rumbler and not stronger. Anyway, back to the movie. You two are great. :)
HURRI-QUAKE !! A Michael Bay film starring TBR Schmitt & Sam! I’d pay top dollar to see that film! Great reaction, as always, guys! 🌪️
What the hell is a hurri-quake? Are you talking about an earthi-cane? Damn kids inventing new words when we have perfectly cromulent ones already...
Shark-Hurri-Quake-Nado!
@rickking228- and that why you are not raking the big bucks yet he still is!
Tagline: "They're in the Schmitt now."
Remember the amber alert in the middle of amber heard testimony? This was kind of like that no? World ending movie reaction with hurricane coming and an a break due to earthquake... epic. Epic.
Armageddon is the perfect name for a movie to watch while having an earthquake during a hurricane!! That's serendipity!! And who would believe it if you didn't have it all recorded?! Cheers!!!
The only movie I can think of that would have been even more fitting (in terms of title) would be "Geostorm."
The subplot with Chic, and his estranged wife/son, always kinda sets off the tears in my eyes. Because Chic is clearly a good dude, who made a bad mistake at some point in his life (probably due to gambling, given his favorite Vegas habit, lol). And he actually gets to redeem himself in the eyes of the two people he loves the most. His son running up to him at the end of the film, and the two of them hugging, just makes me want to CRY! Great subplot that isn't given a ton of screen time, but always hits me deeply in the feels! lol
Will Patton is a good actor (see Remember the Titans).
@@dnish6673 Yeah, I know. I've seen him in many movies, and I've never thought he was ever bad.
What's funny is that he always seems like the same dude, in every flick he's in, just because of how he talks in that "chill out" tone of voice, even when he's angry. lol
always good to see somebody else appreciate this touching little part of the movie that little bit when his son runs up to him and hugs him and the mom in back crying is brutal in the feels
He's also a sheriff of Haddonfield, Illinois chasing an escape 61 to 65 years old maniac wearing a grey coveralls, and a old aged William Shatner mask on Halloween, 2018.
The cast of this movie takes this movie way beyond its expectations, easily one of my favorite casts for any movie ever.
Good call. The cast is the main thing that makes this movie 'watchable'. Otherwise, it's pretty ridiculous. ;)
The russian guy is my fav character
Director Michael Bay misses no opportunity to crank up the effects. But amid the mayhem, the characters do provide a compelling, human-scale drama. Best of all, the movie never loses its sense of humor.
Which is hilarious since there's a scene where they literally tell Harry to train astronauts
I think Bay's reputation for action overshadows his knack for comedy.
@@LordVolkov *He doesn't write his movies, just directs them.* There were six guys who wrote Armageddon.
@rickking228 *Yes! That goes without saying. And yet we're still comparing b-movie directors.*
@rickking228 *When he just kept making the same Jerry Bruckheimer movie again and again.*
Lev using percussive maintenance to fix the shuttle was probably one of the most scientifically accurate aspects of this film. 😁
Percussive maintenance...I like.
Maintenance procedure #1, if it doesn’t work, hit it.
Us older folks know. There was a time in American history when "percussive maintenance" (love it) was used to fix reception on TV's in every home in America. It never worked, but we all did it anyway. It made us feel better.
@@mrtim5363 Back in my army days we had one particular piece of electronic equipment which was so prone to unseating internal components during movement that the first step of set up was literally to drop it from a height of two to three feet onto level ground, in order to reseat everything inside.
@@mrtim5363same in USSR. Particularly when the picture would float vertically, or turn into a bunch of stripes.
I really like your channel. You guys seem very genuine and wholesome. There's damn little of that these days. Thanks for sharing
A big budget Godzilla movie came out this summer too. That's why the dog attacks the Godzilla toys.
Ill admit it, when they make it back and the look of surprise on Will Patton's face when his son comes running to him also made me cry.
Love it! My favorite scene is when the Russian Cosmonaut is hysterically laughing while they slingshot around the moon.
He plays that role perfectly. "Don't touch anything" (in my best Russian accent)
@@Shelbyj13 "That's why I told you, 'touch NOTHING' but you're a bunch of cowboys."
"American components, Russian Components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!!"
Any time you need someone to play a Russian character, get Swedish actor Peter Stormare lol 😆
The parts that always tugs at my heartstrings is the entire sequence when Harry pulls AJ back into the elevator and Harry says he would be proud of him marrying his daughter and AJ says "Harry i love you!" and the other one is when they return and Sharp asks Grace for permission to shake the hand of the daughter of bravest man he's ever met. The Harry/AJ scene because it just shows how much they mean to each other as family and the latter out of respect for a man he once said was NASA's biggest mistake, it shows a bit of growth in Sharp's character.
I did not realize how stacked of a cast this movie has. Bunch of 90s/00s icons here!
So many of the actors still weren't "stars" yet. Owen Wilson and Michael Clark Duncan were barely known. Steve Buschemi had been a small time comedy guy. Hell even Ben Affleck had only JUST become known, as this debuted like 6 months after Good Will Hunting did. Liv Tyler was mostly still just known for her famous dad.
The guy who Billy Bob tells to kill the uplink 25:40 is apparently more of a writer and director (Frank van Keeken).
But first and foremost I still always most fondly think of him as "Vegetable Lasagna." 😂
[edit To adjust time link]
I'm sure this reaction will be one you both won't forget 😂
“I don’t want to close my eyes…” 🎶 Awesome movie!
Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare were both in Fargo, Peter was also in Constantine with Keanu Reeves...so many good movies!!
Michael bay is a big fan of the coen brothers also
"Requesting permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest ma..." sniff sniff... too soon. Dark Knight banker-dude always gets me :/
- glad you two made it outta the earthquake unscathed.
- really cool 'n' surreal seeing a mini Fargo reunion there.
The moment they are singing Leaving on a Jet Plane is one of the saddest moment..
I'm glad you're both ok, but the earthquake was very funny. Sam sitting there while Daniel freaks out until finally his hand comes back in frame for her 🤣🤣🤣
Billy Bob you’ve got to see him in Sling Blade amazing!! He wrote it and stars in it !!
Great cast in Armageddon. RIP to Michael Clark Duncan (Talladega Nights and Slammin Salmon for more of his hilarity).
Everyone focuses on Bay's action, but he can direct comedy really well when he wants.
Pain & Gain, for a very dark comedy from Bay.
I love how you guys go all out for these movie reactions. I mean doing this disaster movie reaction in the middle of a hurricane is one thing, but adding an earthquake too! You guys really go above and beyond!
I may not exactly be fond of this movie (Deep Impact is my personal choice of the two 1998 asteroid movies, and The Rock is my preferred Michael Bay movie), but I will always have one distinct soft spot for a piece of this movie: my mother's cousin, Diane Warren, actually wrote the song that Aerosmith does for this movie, and has written numerous original songs for movies that have gotten her nominated for multiple Oscars. She actually just earned an Honorary Oscar earlier this year for her years of songwriting for the movies.
@germanicthunder3533, Also, the writer of the theme song for Enterprise, right?
That's right, though it was originally written for Patch Adams, but you're correct, all the same.
A Hurricane WITH an Earthquake. Bet that was fun.
Marshall Teague is one of the pilots on the doomed shuttle. I had lunch with him years ago in Nashville Tennessee at a celebrity event. Great guy.
TRUE STORY: I remember being terrified they screwed up when Michael Clarke Duncan was cast as John Coffey cuz I only knew him from this and The Players Club. I was dead wrong.
Rumor has it...Michael Clarke Duncan tried to audition for "The Green Mile" and for whatever reason, they refused to see him. Supposedly, he told Bruce Willis about it and Bruce pulled strings to get him that audition...and the rest is history!
@@tomhoffman4330That's freaking awesome!!
Liv Tyler was a little known from her appearances in the Aerosmith video for ‘Crazy’ with Alicia Silverstone, who appeared in several videos, and was a huge star at the time, and the song/video/entire album were also all huge hits.
This is one of those fun adventure, disaster, action movies that I can watch over and over and over, like Independence Day, Twister etc. Great movie.
Another couple of great (and criminally underrated in one's case) Billy Bob movies are Friday Night Lights, and The Alamo.
That was so wild! Glad you guys are okay! Also love have Sam didn't take off till she grabbed her phone and drink. 😂
Priorities😂😂😂
When you mentioned you were filming this during the hurricane, I wondered if you would feel the earthquake too 😮 So glad you are both ok. Little baby TBR must coming soon...wishing you guys the best!
Wow!! This movie reaction was loaded with action! Hurricane, Earthquake, Michael bay!! Awesome.
It was only fitting to have an earthquake in the middle of watching Armageddon. Lol
The ending definitely got me in the feels 😭
The KatWatchesHorrorMovies channel reacted this week to the Blair Witch movie while in the woods, alone, in the middle of the night but you guys topped her by watching Armageddon while in your own mini-armageddon.
That chicks brave as hell. I don't even want to watch that in a dark room
I know it was probably scary for you guys to experience the earthquake, but I laughed my ass off at your reaction to it. I have friends and family in SoCal experiencing the same thing you guys were. Glad you're all okay.
That scene where the little boy says that salesman is on tv and the mother replied thats not a salesman thats your father always make me emotional.
There's something wholesome about you two. You seem like a really great couple. Always makes me happy seeing you two.
The actress that plays a ships wife is Judith Hoag, best known for April O’Neil in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Your channel is amazing, you uplift movies instead of trashing them. Love your reactions, thank you for reacting to one of my favorite popcorn movies
Probably the only exception would be Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, my favorite Indiana Jones movie ☹
1998 was a great year for movies and had a bigger mix of genres compared to what we see today. You got big blockbusters like Armageddon, comedies like There's Something about Mary, dramas like Saving Private Ryan and family movies like Antz.
Are you freaking kidding me???? An earthquake, during a hurricane, while watching Armageddon???? It doesn't get anymore perfect than that hahaha. Glad you guys are ok. That is just crazy!
Hurricane, earthquake and for the trifecta, Samantha looking down saying "my water broke" would've been golden for the greatest reaction video ever.
"The President of the United States just asked us to save the world..."
That line was improvised by Bruce Willis and they added it into the final cut of the film. He recently decided to retire from acting to take care of his health. Hope his family and he is doing well in retirement from starring as all of these favorite badass action heroes.
He has dimentia. He is not doing well.
Unfortunately, from what I here, he is not doing well.
@@Inquiringmind0, Sorrowfully, there's no recovery from the condition.
Lol. This the one Michael Bay movie where I'm like, "OK, this is actually a good fun movie"
C'mon man, The Rock!?
@Joe_Rolling I haven't seen it. I KNOW! Nic Cage, Connery, I just never seen it all the way. I know I'd like it just haven't done it
I remember seeing this in theaters. I think at the time. Only Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck were names. Can you imagine how expensive casting this movie today would be.
Billy Bob Thornton and Steve Buscemi were bigger names too.
Michael Clark Duncan was a big name actor from The Green Mile.
The Chick and his kid storyline is great. I cried at it too Sam 😅
1998 had some incredible movies. I saw this in theaters and it was so much more than anyone expected. This was actually a rather tame movie from Michael Bay in terms of explosions because in this case they fit in really well with the plot of the movie. It's not like some random over the top explosion. It's literally asteroids and meteors and what not so destruction is inevitable. This movie is paced really well and has an amazing cast. Plus it gifted us with another great Aerosmith song.
I was only 3 lol
Hands down the most hilarious "Fun Fact" of all time was when Ben Affleck was reading the script, he asked Michael Bay, "Wouldn't it be easier to train astronauts to be drillers as opposed to vice versa?"
Michael Bay, the autuer of modern cinema, eloquently replied, "Shut the f*ck up"
I've never understood this. Yes, it's easier to train drillers to ride in a shuttle with astronauts to space, then to train astronauts to drill from scratch.
It would be so much easier to train a bunch of drillers to do basic space walking things and leave the advanced astronauting to the professional astronauts than it would be to teach astronauts decades of experience and intuition that is involved with drilling.
Michael Bay was absolutely right.
I say they should've tried both approaches. Train both sides.
That's actually one thing Ben Affleck was a bit wrong on (considering you can go into space now for 200k with minimal training). The actual NASA term for what those oil drillers would have been called is "payload specialists".
@@irondragondxd3836 This is way more than just going to space though. They also have to walk on an asteroid.
"The Whole Nine Yards" is one of the best Bruce Willis movie!
I wouldn't say its my favorite Bruce Willis movie but its amazing and crazy underrated.
@@supersizesenpai Lucky Number Slevin
It's one of my favorite comedies. The scene where matthew bangs his head on the car then drives for a second, stops and bangs his head again gets me every time

Fun fact, given its one of your favorite comedies. We all know Bruce as this major tough guy but he got his start in Hollywood in comedy. @@Necrowolf81
Love your reaction and love this channel! Congratulations on your little one coming! This movie ALWAYS makes me cry! Especially when Grace has to say goodbye to her Dad... I ugly cry every time! You probably didn't even realize that you missed the last scene while the credits were rolling... it's Grace and AJ's wedding and Liv Tyler's dad (Steven Tyler - Aerosmith) sings one of his best songs! Such an awesome movie!
Oh, man, you gotta see Slingblade! Billy Bob wrote, starred, and directed, and it shot him to fame. It was great, as was he. Won the Oscar for best adapted screenplay. It was John Ritter’s final role before his death, and he was fantastic. It also starred Dwight Yoakam, who did an incredible job.
That was crazy! Watching a disaster movie during a hurricane and then, hey, have a side of earthquake with that?
Slingblade was released in 1996... John Ritter died in 2003, while starring in 8 Simple Rules... so, not his last role ;-)
@aleatharhea, I believe Thornton may have said A Simple Plan is his favorite of the films he's worked on. It's a fantastic movie that Daniel and Samantha should watch. Hardly any reactors have done it.
@@gregall2178 I stand corrected. Thanks!
Oh man, many of the movies on your poll really deserve to get watched, there’s some really excellent ones on the list that Are going to make a deep impact on you.
Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare (the Russian) were a pair of criminals in the Joel & Ethan Coen movie "Fargo" with Frances McDormand. McDormand and John Turturro were both in a "Transformers" movie, as well as several Coen Brothers films. It's weird to see so much cast crossover between Bay and the Coens.
so weird that this and Deep impact came out in the same year and the year before Volcano and Dante's Peak came out movies about the same subject but 1 is just for fun and 1 tries to be somewhat grounded in reality
Great movie from 1998. Top tier casting and one of Bruce Willis' best films. At least in my opinion.
You are joking.
@@Homeschoolsw6 Calm down, I said "one of his best films."
I disagree with you a bit I’ve never seen it but I will never
Who knew "Bear" (Michael Clarke Duncan) would give the performance of a lifetime a year later in The Green Mile??? Willis, Billy Bob, Will Patton, Steve Buscemi... some very serious talent in this movie.
@@V0ltron Almost the dictionary definition of "damning with faint praise".
Man, I hope you get around to doing Dsnte's Peak at some point. One of my favorite disaster type movies.
I'll "Second" that...✌
It may be a Michael Bay action movie, but many a men cried over Bruce Willis’ sacrifice…
Great reaction. You are also the first reactors i've seen talk about the scene where all of them are walking towards the shuttles and then how few are walking away from the surviving shuttle.
I saw this with my family, we got the movie from Blockbuster Video, And we loved every minute of it!
It was one of the highest grossing movies of 1998, $553 million dollars ($1 billion dollars today) against a $140 million dollar budget.
I now own the unrated Director's Cut from The Criterion Collection. The cut contains over 5 minutes of deleted scenes including Harry visiting his father, played by Lawrence Tierney.
i love this movie, one of my all time favorites, billy bob was great in it, i also liked his small role in tombstone
Rest in peace Michael Clarke Duncan, and prayers for Bruce Willis, last I heard he was doing poorly with a form of dementia, my dad passed away in 2021 from alzhiemers at the age of 72, so I know it's not easy on his family
I’m so sorry for your loss. My dad is 72 so I can’t even imagine what that feels like. Hope all is well.
@@SmileyAdventures thank you
Liv Tyler was not cast because of her father, he actually fought for his band to be on the soundtrack with an original song and the “Credit Scene” to be added. He was extremely proud that she had made it on her own.
Here in San Diego the "Hurricane" ended up being the mildest rainstorm of the year. Didn't feel the quake down here.
What I remember most of this movie was I saw it in the theater with a friend, and at the time my friend worked on a drilling rig, drilling for dynamite blasting in a quarry so he was super hyped that the heroes were drillers.
Remain calm...the video has posted! :-)
If this movie doesn't make you cry, something is wrong with you.
I'm glad you guys are safe after the earthquake. I saw this movie at the theater when it first came out and I've seen it a bunch of times ever since. It's my favorite Michael Bay movie, incredible cast, with lots of explosions, laughs and emotions. Sling Blade is a phenomenal movie and Billy Bob is terrific.
The look A.J gives when the pilot turns and says this could be rough, class, showed the "I thought this was the easy part" look haha
A lot of people make fun of this movie just because it’s Michael Bay and
because of the idea of oil drilling dudes becoming trained astronauts so quickly lol
- but there is no doubt this is just terrific powerhouse entertainment!
Tremendous fun - great characters, lots of laughs, plenty of action and excitement-
and genuinely powerful emotions that will actually bring a tear or two at the end.
This movie and The Rock are definitely Bays best films
- and this one packs more of an emotional punch than that one does.
First of all, glad ur both ok. But how hilarious is it that u had two major weather systems while watching natural disaster movie 😂😂. I’ve always loved the scene where the pilot says “Permission to shake the hand of the bravest man I’ve ever met”. Not sure why but I just loved that.
I heard they held a press screening back in the day when this movie came out and Michael Bay himself was there. He had a real hissy fit when the journalists were chuckling at the profound stupidity of the script :D
Yeah, its an absolutely hilarious story.
Yay I was waiting for this all day thank you Tbr Schmitt and Samantha my day is now complete ☺️
Final scene between Harry & AJ - CRIED. Mother telling her son about his father - CRIED. Harry's daughter and father final scene - CRIED. Son hugging his father - CRIED.
I remember watching the teaser trailer for this movie in theaters. I was fortunate to watch it in theaters. I love the president's speech, harry's speech and the pushing the button sequence. It was also the time when I started to love movie soundtracks and musical scores. My introduction to Hans Zimmer.
I just love disaster movies. Got hooked on them watching Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure and the Airport movies back in the 70's.
Towering Inferno is one of my favourites.
@@simenon7 have to shamefully admit that the first time I watched it was because it had both Steve McQueen and Paul Newman in it. Not because it was a disaster movie.🤣

Lol at the earthquake being a main character in this reaction! I have always loved this movie and I'm glad you all liked it. Reactors either totally hate it or totally love it.
The opening narration was done by Oscar Winning actor Charlton Heston.
Glad you guys were okay when the earthquake happened. It hit us pretty good here in Ventura County. It felt like our house was picked up and slammed, then shook side to side. Loved your reaction to Armageddon. One of the more intense dramatic Bruckheimer / Bay films that stressed me out in the movie theater. 😬
I liked how at the end they had honored the team members that died, with portraits of them at AJ and Grace's wedding.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) tells a tale about how people react in those days before an event such as this. It's a very good film.
Awesome reaction guys. I really do love your reactions.
Fun Fact: When Bruce Willis is talking to Grace. Willis had a picture of his daughter next to the camera when he was doing his scene.
almost nothing about this film is technically accurate but it does have the saving grace of the beautiful jessica steen as the shuttle pilot⚛

the absolute pain and love and loss in Ben Affleck's voice as he screamed I love you Harry. Gets me every time, can't no one tell me Ben isn't a great actor.
My husband and I absolutely love this movie, we were watching it the night he proposed. Even without that, it's a fantastically entertaining film, it's able to be serious without taking itself TOO seriously, it knows what it is and isn't ashamed to be ridiculously over-the-top but somehow still grounded.

I also experienced an earthquake during a movie. It was during the original movie "Pet Cemetery"and also at a scary scene. Difference was we were AT the movie theater in Brea, Ca. The quake was only like a 3.1, but it was centered under Brea (very small town in SoCal) so being directly under us, it shook harder than the 5.1 you just had. The ceiling tiles were falling from the ceiling and everyone jumped up and booked to the exit and bottlenecked at the door. Then it was over almost as fast as it started. Not everyone came back to finish watching the rest of the movie.
Billy Bob was in Tombstone. He was the loudmouth dealer that Wyatt kicked out of the Oriental. He came back with the shotgun when Doc stepped in to stop him.
For an amazing performance from Billy Bob Thornton you guys should check out "Slingblade" from 1996.
Ok... Now that y'all have both watched this movie (Great movie by the way) I HIGHLY recommend Netflix original
"Don't Look Up" (2021)
This is the goofiest, campy-est movie to illicit genuine tears from me. As Rich Eisen would say, "It's a remote drop" - If you're scanning channels and come upon it you watch the rest, period.
I am so excited for the new baby! I started watching this channel when my wife was pregnant almost two years ago. You both are such a beautiful couple, how he just takes your hand during that earthquake... wishing yall the best!!!!
the AJ and Harry part where he says, "I love you, Harry." gets me every single time.
I understand that this is probably not a very good movie by traditional standards, but I love the hell out of it.
