  • In this video, we are going to setup WiFi bridge to extend the LAN network wirelessly on OpenWRT LuCI with relayd package. This is also know as Wi-Fi extender / repeater / bridge configuration. As a result, you will have another extended network via WiFi that has the same LAN IP range/subnet with the primary router.
    We only need relayd (core) package and luci-proto-relay to configure the Relay Bridge via LuCI Web Interface.
    Please take note that the primary and the extened router should has a different LAN IP before the configuration. The DHCP server of the 2nd/extened network should be disabled so that all request will be routed to the primary router.
    If your hardware supports 802.11s, you can check out my tutorial for "OpenWRT Mesh WiFi configuration" for the best performance.
    If you want the extended network having a different LAN IP range/subnet, you can also check out the video "OpenWRT AP Client" tutorial.

    Your tutorials are a LIFESAVER! I don't have hardwire Ethernet by my router, but I have WiFi. I needed Ethernet and better signal, this tutorial was exactly what I needed! I also watched your Guest Network video, it was also outstandingly helpful. If I could sub to you twice I would!

      Glad that the video helps. If you have 2 OpenWRT routers, you can set up Mesh WiFi network for a better connection and higher throughput. You can find the video here th-cam.com/video/cw8ykKgVKbM/w-d-xo.html

      @@VanTechCorner Thank you for responding to my comment. I do not have two OpenWRT routers (I have the TP-LINK AC1750 and AX3000 as my routers.) Do you know if I can achieve higher speeds without changing the firmware? Thank you so much for your help and time, again, your videos have saved me so much time and energy setting OpenWRT up, highest level of appreciation. It really means so much having this content freely and easily accessible. The effort you put into your content really shines through in your videos. Amazing job, keep it up!

    Good job man! I was trying to help a friend with a temporary hot spot that had no lan port. My mistake factory resetting the openwrt to factory settings. Had to connect it to my internet to download and install the relayd packages.

    Hi. Thanks for your tutorial!
    I just want to ask if will this extend my wifi signal also?
    I don't think mine works if I'm trying thru wifi, however it will work if I plug a lan cable to my pc.

    Is there a way to set up exactly what you did here, but instead leave DHCP on for the second router and have 2 separate networks that can communicate openly with eachother?

    Since you are using 5G wifi for repeater mode, you cannot use the built-in 5G wifi right? I've tried it and I can't detect the 5G wifi even though it's enabled

    Hi,
    I was successfully able to set up this lan to lan bridge.
    I have a 3rd router. Can I bridge it with the 2nd router using the same method?

  • @macklinegodinho8450

    Does the second router also extend/broadcast/strengthen the wifi signal from the first router?
    Is this tutorial meant for that?
    I did all steps and all the clients connected to LAN ports of the extender router are connected to internet. But i was expecting wifi also will be extended. Am i wrong?

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, this is WiFi bridge/LAN to LAN repeater, the 1st router & 2nd router will be in the same LAN after setup. To extend your WiFi signal, you can simply configure Wireless client & create another wireless network to extend that. This video will somehow help to explain that th-cam.com/video/VX2PYzGMntc/w-d-xo.html

    "The Wifi bridge can be managed through its static wwan IP address (eg. 192.168.1.30) " says OpenWrt wiki. In your case its 192.168.8.5

  • @YouShisha1393
    @YouShisha1393 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't understand the purpose of the bridge. I mean, when you connected to the AP and disabled DHCP on a right router your laptop already got connected to the 192.168.8.x network.

      By checking the Signal Strength of the Phone or PC, you will know that (compare the signal when the wifi bridge router turn on and off)

    I have problem with the mesh setting. So, try this. But my speed is low, 40~50mbps compare to mesh configuration. Any idea why? Btw, I notice that in wwan, there is Device: unspecified. Should I change?

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is certain limitations when using WiFi Bridge. If you don't need mesh, you can try to setup AP Client - this can be found in the OpenWRT playlist.

    hello dear, i love all your videos about openwrt. The following happens to me: I have a 3g router with openwrt and I want to put it in repeater mode with my main router, I have done it as in your video (even putting the same ips) but what I notice is that the repeater constantly disconnects and sometimes the Wi-Fi of the repeater router does not appear and the speed drops a lot, almost to 0. I hope you can help me. a greeting.

    very good tutorial Thx but how to change IP for "Home router" or how to change routing that we can connect to 192.168.1.1 from 192.168.8.x network ? (i want to open 192.168.1.1 without manual chane IP address od network adapter)

      You can't do it with WiFi brdige. If you want to be able to extend the WiFi range with OpenWRT routers, you can try to setup Mesh WiFi and you should be able to reach the LAN gateway. Here is the tutorial link th-cam.com/video/cw8ykKgVKbM/w-d-xo.html

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, wifi replay is the last thing to setup to extend your LAN over WiFi, if the device doesn’t support Mesh WiFi.
      - Raspberry Pi’s wireless perfomance/coverage is not good, it is only testing/development usage.
      - You can buy a USB wifi adapter (with antenna) to improve this; however, with this cost, you can buy 2 used router, install OpenWRT on it and configure mesh WiFi (802.11s)

    I made raspberrypi the relay between wwan(usb0 firewal wan) and eth-br(eth0 wlan0 firewall lan) ip192.168.32.2, wwan( device usb0 -has its own dhcp server 100-150, I made connection static ip 192.168.32.100 gtw 192.168.32.1) lan-br ip 192.168.10.1 (eth0 and wlan0) . It when lan or wifi is connected they not get ip from 192.168.32.x from dhcp. when usb0 is as dhcp client it get random ip 192.168.32.1xy but it others not get this subnet ip. When I connect computer to lan-br and manually set computer ip to 192.168.32.101 gtw 192.168.32.1 then it this computer is able to access internet. strange thing : I was connected to wlan0 via phone before making relay config it got 192.168.10.9 ip when lan-br had dhcp enabled, but it when now relay is enabled and lan-br dhcp disabled this phone in web openwrt wireless client list is showed as 192.168.10.9 while other computer gets garbage non working ip unless I put in manually 192.168.32.101 then it computer have internet.
