Did you know that Chris has terrible stage fright, and that's why he has his wife on stage? She obviously has a wonderful voice, but she is also there to help him overcome his phobia.
the moment when Justin yells SING IT CHRIS! followed by that rip from Chris gives me chills quite literally EVERY time i hear it. this performance is absolute perfection...and the word perfection doesn't even do the band justice.

@Walterwhiteww2hey are two very different types of vocalist and have each mastered their craft. One isn’t better than the other. This isn’t even a discussion. You may prefer one sound to the other, but they are both masters at what they do, make no mistake.
anyone denying how good of a singer Justin is at this point is just lying to themselves lol.
Everyone on that stage was top notch. The vocals, the horns, the keys - those players will be talking about THAT performance for the rest of their lives.
Being on that stage goes at the TOP of any resume.

@@mpcruiser69 yes, this is what I'd read along the way, too. As good as he is, Stapleton himself, is pretty modest about blowing his own horn, and from what I had taken away from a previous article, he's gotten kind of hosed on some past dealings/deals with people who maybe started w good intentions but got lost when it came to playing w the big boys. He ended up getting very little promotion and marketing and just kept playing small venues in small towns until he got his break.
Unless *that* was just a story, too, but somehow, it seemed believable enough especially when the CMA story came out.

Chris and Justin look like they synergize so naturally. I'm surprised they haven't dropped an entire album together yet.
The way Justin plays with the band and the communication between them and how he in a way directs them. True showman!
When you said “if your not feeling anything listening to this then your dead inside” my head was literally bopping feeling it as you were doing haha
the thing that makes this entire performance so special is that this is one of those shows where things just click. a group of amazing musicians, getting together, respecting one another, admiring on another, pushing one another and having an absolute blast together. you can tell that a lot of "who sings what" was in the moment, by head gestures and body language (i.e. moving away from the mic and stuff). You can also tell its just one those night, because of the audience reaction. Those arent Fans, those arent every day Joes that are impressed easily, and they where all on their feet, loving every second of it. I truly love this Show and I come back to watch it regularly. I also gained a lot of respect for Justin as a musician (Im a metalhead, through and through, so admiting Justin Timberlake isnt a Boy Band blow off anymore didnt come easy :D )

These kind of collabs are my favourite. They are unexpected but because each is a talent on their own, it forces them to up their game to not be outdone and when that happens you get magic

I understand that the band is actually Justin‘s band. I also read that Chris was a little nervous about this gig and it was his wife that suggested he call his friend Justin, so they are definitely friends. Who would’ve thought that a raspy voice and a clear, pure voice would sound so good together!
an audience full of entertainers is thoroughly entertained by that performance! the looks on their faces are priceless.

I remember seeing this live and my jaw was on the floor. You could feel that you were witnessing something incredible. Just so much energy in that room during this performance. Justin and Chris have the best bands in the business.

Not only did this performance introduce Chris to people from another genre who may never have heard of him it changed my opinion of JT as an artist. It says we all have biases we need to jettison. Greatness has no gender, race or genre....

One of the single best performances on a stage I have had the pleasure to witness. The vocals, the performance, the instrumentals are unbelievable. You take two diverse talents and mix them with the Memphis rhythm and blues sounds and wow! Amazing...❤

For whatever reason it happened, they were having fun playing together, they hadn't played that song in awhile, the crowd was giving it back to them...it doesn't matter why, the band was on one that night. They hit that very rare sweet spot where it feels like you can play forever and there is no such thing as a wrong note, where you KNOW, you don't have to think about it, you don't ever have to wonder or second guess, you know in your soul , the guy next to you has got your back and will help you do whatever, musically, you want to pull off. Complete, total freedom of musical and emotional expression.
I don't know if that second song was planned...but it wouldn't matter if it weren't. It was going to happen anyway.
All the two front men could do was hold on for the ride and prey they had the chops to keep up. Fortunately, they did. All you have to do is look out at that audience to see that. The look on the faces of the performers out there... They all knew what was happening on that stage. They had a runaway band, and it was awesome!
This performance knocked it out if the park!! New respect for JT !! ...and Chris???....he can sing anything!!

Big band a tonne to this song. If I could live-mix Chris and his wife, I could die happy inside. I LOVE her voice, voice quality in the mix. All the sound-people know how good she is and how much of a joy it would be to mix her into the incredible vocals.

It’s very cool, Chris’s story. He was a hired gun in Nashville for years, playing and writing for other people. Then he finally decided to emerge as his own artist and was immediately successful. Good for him!
He was THE gun to hire at one time. At one of the CMAs they had a skit of all these people that should've won song of the year or something. Then someone pointed out Chris and said he should win cause he wrote all the songs your arguing about! Priceless!
This was one of the greatest live performances on the CMAs of all time the crowd was so into it and they were artist themselves but you can see that they were so into it themselves great reaction
