I’ve watched CMA award shows for forty plus years. This was the best live collaboration ever. Chris Stapleton, his wife Morgane, JT, the band…those horn section too. It was one of those unforgettable moments in music that cannot be duplicated. They felt that performance and made us feel it too. The planet’s definitely lined up and so did the talent.
The entire band, tho!! The horns, the organ.. Every single person on that stage showed the heck out!!! And every single person in that building felt the vibrations down to their soul. You can tell by the looks on the faces in the audience, the vibe coming off that stage was astounding.
And so far as Morgain Stapleton goes, I think she is happy supporting him. I feel like if she went to him and said she wanted her name in lights that he would gladly put it up there in FRONT of his. But he was a songwriter and SHE is the one who convinced him to step out front, she is the one directing all this behind the scenes, and the rumor is that particular year he was up for New Artist of the Year and the CMAs were gonna give him one very short slot to perform. So she called up her friend, Jessica Biel, about getting the hubbys together - and then went back to the CMAs saying that their "guest" would be Justin Timberlake - so they gave them that huge time slot. Morgane Stapleton is not being taken advantage of, she is living her best life, and they have like 4 or 5 kids so... She likes being able to sing when she wants and NOT sing when she wants - and country music has a tradition of husband and wife - Johnny and June Cash; Waylon and Jessie Jennings.... In fact Chris and Morgane did a cover of one of Waylon and Jessie hits - "Amanda" - so if you wanna hear her she sings on that since that song calls for huge dose of the feminine sound. "Amanda, light of my life. They should have made you a gentlemans wife."
Chris and justin are feeding off of eachothers energy and the band is feeding off of chris and justins and that makes this one of the greatest live performances ever.

Listen to the studio version of “You are my sunshine” Stapleton’s wife (Morgane) sings lead and she shows her true power and perfect voice! Truly flawless. She’s one of the best female vocalist but prefers to stay in the background. It’s a must listen!

I love this reaction so much!!!! Not many who watch and react lose themselves in the performance like you two. What a joy to see. And very few catch the dynamics that happen on stage where the band is loving the experience as much as the singers. It's a rare performance and you did it justice with your authentic reaction.

It was first recorded by David Allen Coe and very shortly after by George Jones (much more successful).
I caught the Steeldrivers live several times when Chris Stapleton was the lead singer. Bluegrass with some Country Rock (ie Charlie Daniels Band) and Blues influence. They had (have?) a really unique sound.

Timberlake has to do the power high notes in his falsetto voice because he doesn’t have the chops to hit them with his normal voice like Chris. He’s still very good though.

Did you know that before he stated singing himself that he was a song writer for tons of famous singers. Music you’ve heard and loved and made it to the top of the charts??? I love how excited you were watching this performance and I agree with you that it goes down as the greatest live performance of all time, at least so far. I also have to give you props for actually looking up any info/questions you may have. That has been my biggest pet peeve while watching these reaction videos so you have my respect for that.. I am a 58 year old black woman who primarily listens to R&B, but I listen to everything. Let me tell you that I have listened to all four of Chris Stapleton's albums and there is not one bad song. His wife is his anchor. Chris suffers from terrible stage fright and she's usually with him on stage because she's the only thing that grounds him. If you notice when he's on stage he's usually eyes closed, looking around or focusing on his wife. Rarely does he look into the audience.

I commented on FB when the performance happened that this was the best live performance I have seen. They stole the show and I felt bad for anyone that had to perform after because that wasn’t the last performance of the night. I can only imagine going on after them (obviously awards announced and things in between) but there is no way you can come close. If I was a performer and had the next slot it would feel like someone kicked my dog when they were finished.
