Just imagine being Subaru. You are owned by Toyota, a Company that is famous for Cars that will outlive their Owners and you still manage to build unreliable cars.
Being owned by Toyota is irrelevant. Subaru still manufactures their own cars. And calling them unreliable is also stereotypical. It’s always the people who (i) have never owned a Subaru or (ii) have done stupid mods on their Subaru WRX/sti like putting intake exhaust crank up the boost with no proper ecu tuning that are calling these cars unreliable. I have owned a 02 WRX with stage 3 mods and a 2012 sti with stage 2 mods and tracked them both many many times without issues. The sti did get a little hot because of a sh*tty aftermarket radiator but I don’t blame the car. People nowadays are so quick to blame the car the brand and others but never themselves.
@@Kichoman1983 No reason to defend your beloved Carbrand. But the latest example probably is the BRZ. With its oil starvation in right hand corners, it’s RTV issue. @@Rouven_K Never had any Ferrari so can’t speak for them. I agree no car / car brand is bulletproof. All I want to do is share my personal experience on cars that I have actually owned and not basing my argument on hearsay. My Lotus Exige V6 had a Toyota engine and everyone just assumes it is reliable. Well guess what, the car has given me more issues (not engine related) in 2 years than the 20 years combined on my Subaru ownership. I still absolutely loved it though. So it’s not so simple as journalists and social media would have people believe. As for the new BRZ, I have one in the family and it just did two track days back to back with no issue. Another friend tracked his stock power one multiple times already and no issues. More track days to come so we shall see. The key for me is proper maintenance and track preparation. That means, among other things, oil change with good oil (not some cheap stuff that you can buy at your gas station) before and right after EACH track event. I would be delusional if I expect any cars that I beat on the track to be hassle free in the long run. Gotta pay to play, period.

Dare I say that a sorted suspension, tires and a nice set of brakes without too much power make an STI a bit boring? Another 100hp and this thing would've been a blast I bet.
Hey I'm just thinking an extra 100hp from one of these is also making a lot more heat 😉 keep it were it is and giving it better cooling that would of made Misha's lap alot quicker if he didn't have to nanny the temp gauge

The traction is amazing 😮. And the boxer 4 sound is different. Like it. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Re71 is a killer tire
Glad the owner kept UELH on the car.
That thing was COOKING from a few minutes in 🥵
Nice video, miss the STI, it’s sad Subaru discontinued STI and now build new wrx on SUV forester chassis and SUV open front diff and open rear diff. They need to bring back STI with that nice front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD.
Thing started pulling timing when the temp was up, can see it struggling. Time for a koyorad radiator dude
Classic Subaru with temperature issue
This car was my dream, but It was impossible to get well maintanced car with some not the highest mileage and at a reasonable price. So I took Giulia instead.
It's a shame subaru stopped making STi. Now we only have ugly wrx and soon to be "hybrid" cars.
@@kevina.4036 indeed, it's like killing the legend...
You made the right choice. Sold my GR sti after 10 years.
Me just watching and listening to the rumble. those footwork are fire
Out of all the cars misha has driven the sti seems like the one he’s most confident with, thing has so much grip !!!
Would love to see a supercharged h6 legacy subie on the nurb . Subies hit just different for me
266deg F😅 I was nervous.
ole mate will be rebuilding this engine very soon.
For real dude
I hope he pays them or something for abusing their cars, every time i see this guys videos….which i love, he’s always driving the car so hard 😂 and the owners are always terrified
Since 2006, after years of “development” , subaru still uses the weak 2.5l EJ257 engine😅
Knock knock💥
2.5L in most other world
2.0L in Japan
Design wise, iirc EJ257 has semi-closed deck while EJ207 has open deck. 🤔🤔
This gen STI is not in production anymore. Current WRX uses fa24 turbo. STI will probably have it also.
@RDSAlphard all sti models are semi closed deck (except for gc8)
@@RDSAlphardfalse……
The EJ207 STI engine is a semi closed deck engine!
I would never want anyone to beat on my car at that temp ..... No respect to the owner im sorry misha
Glad to see the VA chassis on here. My dad has both the VA U.S. Spec 2016 WRX and a 2020 STI. I might be a Honda fan, but I do love the Subie platform as well 😁
Misha; Temp: 136
Phone; Press confirm
Car; goes flying,
Misha; Temps?
Passenger; I’ve deleted the app 😮
After Misha's lap best option is oil change😄especially after 130C
This engine needs all the cooling mods, but once you're there it's good to go. I'd like to see Misha race my car down that track (750bhp fastest stock location turbo in the world).
i like to see it
Are you sure it can handle oil/water temps produced on nur?? Better not embarass yourself;)
You better listen to moto iq mike
after my experience with the fa20 im so done with subarus
And that's one of the more reliable motors that they offer XD
The lap with P. Weber in the M2 was facking awsome 💪🏻🤘🏻
Misha is seriously living my life in Forza motorsport, but in the real world.
Bigger Rad and oil cooler if you are going to track lol temps were not ideal lol
Time to head over to RCM for a rebuild 😊
Other Subarus have common issues with head gaskets and transmissions. Subarus are great cars, Ferraris are also great cars, but I wouldn’t call either of them reliable. They are still great though.
That clutch is savage !
I wonder what that "wubwubwub" sound was when you're deep into 5th gear
Temps buried in the red Misha full throttle at 140mph uphill 😅 "Will it survive" lol
Wow really well set up! acceleration feels subtle but carries a lot of speed!
7:50 kind of a joke of a high temp warning, just a message for a second? no red light on dash? the temp needle which has literally 2mm of travel between normal and hot.. wow.
Was excited til I saw 6k limiter 😂
Each time there’s a Subaru on here it’s running hot, I still like them either way, brz gang 👌🏾
Great car and video !
Gonna bring you mine next year (hopefully) which has every reliability mods + chassis renforcement and brakes upgrade ! Just want to put Sportster CSs in !
Something about a Subaru on the Ring. Awesome pedal work
The careful driver in me would have quit long before the end of the lap. I don't see a needle almoat hit H and think "meh".
Am I getting that right... you guys had over 130c coolant temps?
hopefully that was oil temp.
@@Nebbia_affaraccimiei You can see on gauges that coolant was propably close to 130c too.
Shhhh 🤫
Subaru's are great car's and pretty quick also
the avg suv in 2024 would walk it.
@@remissiveslave what suv would walk an sti in the ring? lol
@@remissiveslave What's your point?
@@remissiveslavearound the Nurburgring?
@@remissiveslave In a track? Nah those soccer mums would roll over at a corner.
Used 1/4 a tank of gas for a lap wow😮
How did the car feel balance wise, Misha? Did it have a lot of understeer or was it pretty neutral?
YOU HAVE GOOD CORNERING.
TAKUMI SENT ME.
NAMASTE 🙏🏽 FROM BROOKLYN.
I’ve taken my VA STI on the ring with the stock intercooler and even then I had pretty high temperatures. After installing my FMIC my oil temperature alone is now 20-25f higher. I can only imagine if I go back again with my current set up lol.
Does the FMIC affect your coolant temps since it’s blocking the radiator
@@Craiggg12345 I could only imagine so since the core size for my FMIC is 4.5 inches. I installed my FMIC just when winter started so I will have to gauge it when it’s summer, since that’s when I went to the ring.
@@gotboost1183 FMIC will significant'y increase coolant temps. I'll take higher intake temps and slightly reduced power than high coolant temps which = no more lapping.
@@gotboost1183seems like it’s only worth upgrading the top mount to a bigger unit and leaving the air for the radiator clear.
Subaru would be great if they just had normal inline engines.
Great lap, that coolant temp though 😅Look forward to a VB lap!
Subaru needs to watch your video and learn, look where the problem is most Subaru's just overheat at the climb.
7:12 gas pedal to the metal, while car is almost not accelerating. Limp mode. Coolant overheated, oil pressure warning. This engine is TOASTED. Only question to Misha: why you kept driving it, while seeing all warnings?
he kept driving it so people like you can post dumb comments lile this one
Gotta love Subaru's!

Can’t believe that I can drive the same STI with Misha 🤯cause the owner is my friend 😂
Was the car ok after the track run? So many people complain about the temp
@@xristodoulos88 it should be alright 👍🏻
So the noise between shifting was sync mesh making that sudden scratch or crunch noise?
Dare I say that a sorted suspension, tires and a nice set of brakes without too much power make an STI a bit boring? Another 100hp and this thing would've been a blast I bet.
Ooookay why ? What car do you own if it's ok too ask ?
@@doaSkid69Misha liked his comment so yes another 100hp would be fun
Hey I'm just thinking an extra 100hp from one of these is also making a lot more heat 😉 keep it were it is and giving it better cooling that would of made Misha's lap alot quicker if he didn't have to nanny the temp gauge
Heat has many issues with this platform not just eventually expelling your coolant from the system and seizing the engine or if your lucky doing a Head gasket
You also run a risk of pre detonation with the increased and unstable cylinder temps wich can mean bye bye ring lands
:)
i need to get there one day just for that section before the mini carousel alone . great lap you just cant beat driving a subaru they just have a vibe . the owner seems like a lovely guy .
As a viewer from Hong Kong, I'm quite surprised about this🤭 Nice car, nice lap!

Unbelievable how an M2 just easily destroys this car. And flew away.
Love the Subaru though. Always loved them.
