Richard, I've owned 2 WRX's. I loved them both. The first was a year older than this one. The second was a 2015. Both were the best driving experiences of my life. The focus, the heightened awareness, of driving these cars was joyous. Thank you for capturing the spirit of the experience!
I totally want to see you drive a Triple Rotary RX-7 Hammond, would be a magical time, behind a bespoked magical car of such character, such fun, such exquisite drivability, a purist enthusiasts dream machine... :)
THIS IS WHAT THIS CHANNEL SHOULD BE. It brings back the Top Gear magic. Just 20-30 minutes of chilling with Jeremy, Richard or Captain slow in literally anything. It could be a shopping trolley. Please please please more of this ❤❤❤
I really hope this comment gets read because it’s spot on, I remember genuinely hoping for this video after the last one where he got handed the keys and walked through the car
New top gear presenters can't even drift a super car on a race track and they're what 20 years younger? Idk it's just sad. BBC was more worried about what they wanted vs what the audience wanted.
This is literally like watching a Top Gear road test, the framing, the pacing, the scripting, the music. We NEED more of these! James could do his Alpine properly, Jeremy could do his GTV6 properly, and Hammond can do more of his mad cars! EXCELLENTLY put together!!!
I'd say reviewing their own cars could even improve on the Top Gear formula if that's possible. You can tell Hammond LOVES this car, just the same as Jeremy's old tests on stuff like that coach built Alfa, or his segment about Lancias. It's a genuinely beautiful thing to see this kind of outpouring of passion for a car, we more of this.
Just seeing Hammond in a car talking about it the way he does, his analogies, the words, the adjectives used to describe the feeling of this car, it really brings back the sheer nostalgia and joy of watching the Top Gear of old. Appreciate DriveTribe for bringing us this.
@@milli_on4451 2005 is probably my favorite year, I'd hold on to it! I got a 2004 at release and just wish I had the upgraded 5x114 wheels/hubs that came a year later. My 2008 STI is a foot longer JDM 50th anniversary special Outback 2.5XT with half the power of Hammond's beast. But it still gives that clawing into the tarmac feeling, especially from a standing start. From a T intersection. In the wet.

Richard if you READ THIS, congratulations you’ve just cemented your legacy as the greatest car reviewer of all time, in perhaps one of the greatest legendary cars of all time.. superb video, felt like peak top gear review.. excellent.. this is what we want Richard ! Your a living legend!
Yeah everything Hammond said about the car that it has it’s own personality, it’s planted down to the ground to the point you feel like your on rails, and it feels like what you’d expect when you think of performance because it does everything and more and until you drive one you probably won’t really even understand it because I know I didn’t and from the moment I got it my expectations for it were so much lower than how great it ended up being
"We are going to have a lot of fun together. A lot." Brought a tear to my eye. That's the kind of passion we have as enthusiasts. You don't go places in your car. You and your car go places together. I am so glad you are out enjoying time with Martin. I am sure Martin is too.
This video got me in my feelings, I just lost my project car that I had put a lot of time into, that made me feel alive when I drove it (someone hit me totaling the car). It makes me happy to see hamster drive a car that makes him smile.
The car did its job, you got crashed into and survived it. If you want to, build it up again, doesn't matter if the insurance write off is tiny. It's the car you want to be driving.
I am always so impressed by Hammond's effortless delivery. He delivered that passionate monolog from start to finish and it came out like a beautifully scripted drama but it felt anything but scripted. Hammond is a master of presentation - best in the trio (and this coming from an engineer whose a James May fan). I just can't get enough of Hammond's presentations. So eloquent, so graceful and always passionate. Bravo, dude!
After all these years watching these guys I actually feel connected Hammond feels like my long distance uncle or something lol its almost magic when u put him in front of a camera
I grew up watching Richard, but now I’m older I can appreciate how good he actually is with words. He does such a good job of explaining how something feels in a precise, but poetic way. When he said “and I suspect you are too” in regard to being the type of person to want a car to be cartoonish, you actually feel like he’s involving YOU, not just speaking about himself and how it feels to him. As an audience we WANT WANT WANT this type of content. Please keep doing stuff like this💙💙
I've fallen in love with how Hammond review cars. Again. I love the silly Top Gear we had but we all forgot why the trio love cars and how good they can express their emotions and connections with cars. That was a brilliant review! MORE PLEASE and a big thank you!
How can Richard be the best car reviewer I have ever seen, what's it been 20+ years since peak Top Gear and still Richard is the GOAT, nobody comes close... emotion, connection to the audience, so compelling you cant stop watching, draws your undivided attention.. amazing work every time.
Towards the end of the video I felt like I was watching an episode of the old top gear again with the music, charisma and everything it almost brought a tear to my eye. Miss those days
Except that it was Richard in a Subaru, the rest of this clip kind of felt like that season ending clip that Jeremy did in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
My daily commuter car is my beloved STI. It's impossible for me to start it up without a silly grin. Nothing fixes a tough day at the office quite like walking out to the parking lot and driving it home. And yours is just about the most perfect build I've ever seen. Please make some more videos with it.
Sold my daily STi after driving it 10 years for a car just as fast, nicer inside and more practical and all I can think about is getting it back. The character of the car and mechanical beauty is one of a kind.
Kinda brought a tear to my eye this did. Was like watching TopGear again, the camera angles, the analogies of the car, the music choice and the reactions Richard makes. All we want is more videos like this with the Trio before they retire for good 🔥🙏
I love Subarus. I've had such a hard time trying to convert my feelings into words, but Hammond perfectly nails the feeling of driving a Subaru, no other car can compare the feeling of one.
Georgous road and amazing backdrop and my God what a machine! I love the fact its pouring with rain but you can still drive at some speed. To see the kid, joy and emotion in Richards face is priceless! Its authentic and genuine reaction. Presenting this car brings it all out and that is one of the great 4cyl car of all time. In the world of qtr mile runs, fastest acceleration, EV's or power you can't really safely use in the real world this is a breath of fresh air. Great video. Enjoy and wishing a safe and fun year for the DriveTribe Team!
there is something about men and cars, the two go so well with each other..Hammond feels that special connection with that car and the same goes for every dude on the gas pedal...whether you hate a car or love a car, its still amazing getting behind a wheel and going or a spin, it feels so mutual, it does what you do and takes you where you want, thats why we put so much cares fore cars, we just feel a thrill behind a wheel.
This review was so good and took me so far back into time that I thought it was going to cut back into a studio, with Jeremy wondering how fast it goes around a certain track 😂
I had a 2004 standard WRX STi (if any WRX STi can be called "standard"!). Honestly, the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Incredible handling, effortless power. It's like a limpet, the way it grips the tarmac, no matter how hard you cane it.

That exhaust is probably one of the nicest sounding ones I've ever heard on an Impreza, the whole thing just looks and sounds like a true rally car. Good job guys, keep this sort of thing up!
So good to see he Hammond hasn't lost the ability to make you feel emotional towards a car, bringing that feeling to me sitting on the other side of the screen but feeling like I'm sitting there with him enjoying every second top video 👏👏
My daily is a 500hp F80 M3 but my 05 STi gives me chills every time i take it out for a Sunday drive. Such a drivers car, no electrical gimmicks, no traction control, pure drivers car.
I’ve had my Hawkeye for just over a year, done a considerable amount of miles in that time and there isn’t a day where it doesn’t make me smile! Awesome cars, there’s nothing quite like it ❤️
As if he's just pushing the limits of that car and heel-toeing. Never seen him do that and I've been watching him all my life. He's actually a certified driver 👏
Watching this with Richard Hammond really felt like old times again. Just back to basics car reviews from one of the best automotive presenters in the modern era. Really enjoyed watching this and would love to see a lot more of this style. Well done!
The genuine heart to heart he gives us a peak at between him and the car is really something special and what made top gear and the grand tour so special.

@N-light-end-1 we have the 2.5 xt aswell I wouldn’t buy a 2.5 the tax in uk for a 2006 2.5 is £675 so 700 dollars fk that 2,0 is 395 ahha mines a 2.0 XT love it had a s turbo 2.0 aswell that i lost too rust in 2021 was a sea side scotland Subaru my 04 xt is from England there that rare here tryna find a manual is difficult
I own a Subaru Impreza gc8 that has been completely restored. It was with it that I learned to drive fast . It belonged to my father who passed away 6 months ago. I don't think I'll ever sell it. Welcome to the Subie club Richard. Happy New Year.
Hammonds words, the videography and the style in which it was all put together gave me goose bumps and a big grin on my face. Well done this is the content we want!
This is possibly the greatest thing ever captured on camera. Great review of a mega car - I was lucky enough to own a Blob STI years ago, and since I got rid of it 9 years I've thought about little else except buying another, but kids and life keep getting in the way. This at least lets me enjoy the boxer burble vicariously until I buy another - much more of this please!
Watching this sums up exactly how I feel when I drive my 06 STi. I am fortunate enough to have a wife who loves the car, along with 2 kids who started off in car seats in the back (my oldest graduates this year). I daily mine is all weather conditions here in the PNW, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The best way I can describe how it feels behind the wheel is beautifully archaic. 223k miles on it now, and it still pulls like a freight train. Thanks for letting others experience the joy the car brings to you, and don't forget the subi wave ✌
As a subaru owner i completely understand where hammond is coming from, now a stock automatic 3.0R isnt a 500 horsepower STI but you can feel that subaru driving style even in a less agressive model like the legacy. Subaru isnt impresively reliable, very powerful or fast but if you drive a subaru and feel exactly what make it a subaru, you will love it.
As much flack as jezza gave Richard for naming Oliver he goes and names Martin. It was like 2002ish again with Richard here, perfect way to keep this channel & car alive. Well done.
As all scoobie lovers will tell you , the standard versions are a marvel , the sti / pro drive versions are fantastic and then any one that’s developed or tuned ……well this video says it all . Not only do I miss top gear and the GT show … but also my WRX UK300 bug eye
It speaks volumes when someone who can have and drive just about any car in the world is this giddy over a Subaru....a very special Subaru, but still a Subaru. Gives us normal people hope.
This brings back the magic of the old Top Gear days, a spesially of the tracktests they did back then. I think you should do a something like a Trackday with it, properlly smashing it arround. Who want's to see that too?
I have always admired these cars from afar until I nearly bought one but plumped for a Fiesta ST and never regretted it. My neighbour a lot of years ago had the MacRae 555 version then bought an RB5 and although I never drove it his partner drove myself and friends into town one Saturday evening and it cornered like it was on rails. That car you have there is a real weapon and has to be driven to be appreciated. Enjoy!!!
Dear car manufacturers, this is what we want in cars, not AI, not voice recognition, not big screens,. Just noise, poise, buttons, fun and power. Simple.
I wasn't digging the white stripe with drivetribe (although I got the need to put the logo on there for sure)... but, seeing it in this video today going down the road with the stripe on the side actually looks nice! Beautiful car all around guys, that's really gotta be the sweet spot on power on that chassis I'd think for a road car. Just awesome!!! I hope Richard enjoys this for many years to come!!
I wonder who is taller Hammond or tony stark !!! they almost look the same now !!! but who is taller !!! ok i found out Robert Downey Jr. is only 1 inch taller !!!
I love that you're actually using the DCCD to change the feel of the car while driving. I've got an 06 STI and use it regularly to better my urban driving, or mountain runs. So many people I've met that also have WRX STIs never touch it.
The STI here speaks for itself, my comment is for those that put this film together. The editing and filming of this was amazing and its here on TH-cam?? So to those that put in the hours putting this together.....Bravo Folks....Bravo👏

I had my engine rebuild but I am keeping power stock.
I'm sure that's the B4560 road Llangynidr, awesome road 🏴
I own a Subaru Impreza gc8 that has been completely restored. It was with it that I learned to drive fast . It belonged to my father who passed away 6 months ago. I don't think I'll ever sell it. Welcome to the Subie club Richard. Happy New Year.
I'm trying to buy an old Evo for the purpose of restoration. Hopefully I'll be able to pass it down like that.
Hamster is the best!! This is what we’ve been waiting for!!! Excellent work Richard!👏👏👏Great test Drive!!
Hammonds words, the videography and the style in which it was all put together gave me goose bumps and a big grin on my face. Well done this is the content we want!
Yes, the three of them need to get on again. Who are the fools who don't recognize that in TV land?
They are not interested in talent just diversity.
Top gear is no more due to incompetence.
Nostalgia. This brought me back. Amazing to see him behind the wheel of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
Absolutely wonderful, a real driver's car.
nothing hits me in the feels like a 04-07 sti i own a 06 and its the most fun and best car ive ever driven
I believe Hammond is one of the most passionate car reviewers (alongside clarkson too). Great to see you behind the wheel like this again 🙂
Trust Hammond to put soul into a video every time he happens to be in a driver's seat. Can't get enough of such great videos.
Drivetribe has just gone up a level, more like this please! 👌
As much flack as jezza gave Richard for naming Oliver he goes and names Martin. It was like 2002ish again with Richard here, perfect way to keep this channel & car alive. Well done.
These videos literally make my day 🥰
As all scoobie lovers will tell you , the standard versions are a marvel , the sti / pro drive versions are fantastic and then any one that’s developed or tuned ……well this video says it all . Not only do I miss top gear and the GT show … but also my WRX UK300 bug eye
The shear joy and excitement this car brought Richard while driving it is so wholesome. Great video, DRIVETRIBE.
It speaks volumes when someone who can have and drive just about any car in the world is this giddy over a Subaru....a very special Subaru, but still a Subaru. Gives us normal people hope.
This is exactly what we all want. Feels like the old days
Enjoy!!!
Not everybody will understand the magic behind an Impreza. And they don't have to.
It's just for us.
Hammond, the reason you like the Subie, is because you are both a Maniac, and a Yobbo!!!!
✌️😎👍
I wonder who is taller Hammond or tony stark !!! they almost look the same now !!! but who is taller !!! ok i found out Robert Downey Jr. is only 1 inch taller !!!
I'm sure it's already been said, but daughter gets to give it a go next, right? I love watching ya'll interact and all!!
2 decades ago i remember hammond talking about getting the mother of all imprezas, and now he does, great to see, fast happy hamster
I know equal length headers give more power but I’d have kept the unequal length ones for that scooby rumble
I love that you're actually using the DCCD to change the feel of the car while driving. I've got an 06 STI and use it regularly to better my urban driving, or mountain runs. So many people I've met that also have WRX STIs never touch it.
Anyone else have flashbacks of the rimac when hammond started pushing it?
I think hammond should a Screamer pipe and a WRC style BOV
Ah yeah that’s the same car Richard drove during the Scandinavia tour of the grand tour
The STI here speaks for itself, my comment is for those that put this film together. The editing and filming of this was amazing and its here on TH-cam?? So to those that put in the hours putting this together.....Bravo Folks....Bravo👏
allways been an Evo Guy but i do like the Skooby still and they do sound nice no matter which one you drive.. looks a monster for sure
This car is 20 yrs old and look at that emotion he is feeling. What a car🔥
Dam i miss old top gear 😢 this just felt like watching it all those years ago.
Richard Hammond motoring journalist is back 🎉
And this is why I got and drive a WRX. Love this man's passion for cars.
Gorgeous car but you absolutely ruined it with that livery
Not being dramatic but you guys keep me alive 😊
This is TopGear. What a treat in the new year of 2024!
