Would somebody please bring me a drool bucket??! 🤣 I'm salivating like I haven't eaten in a year. I've been a vegetarian all of my adult life but, as a kid, I ate all the dishes you chose at the Poi Bowl. My mom made either shoyu chicken or chicken long rice once a week. I had stewed taro leaf and hamburger steak, kalua pork, and lau lau every week at school with poi and 2 big scoops of sticky rice, of course. YUM!! Thanks, guys, for a delicious, nostalgic, appetite-stimulating video! ❤❤
I tried the Lemongrass Chicken Laksa from Singmatei, as I recall you both recommending this place before and it was fantastic!😍 The prices for their food were on the reasonable side, too, for Makai Market! That's awesome to see you guys got to eat there, again!💯

I love Sing Ma Tei 👍! I had never heard of laksa until i watched your Singapore vlog. I instantly did a search for laksa here in honolulu and was immediately addicted to Sing Ma Tei's laksa after my first taste 🥰. The owners have recently opened a stand alone restaurant called Yi Xin Cafe (local vloggers are raving about it) and it is on my list to try 👍.
I know that a lot of people get turned off by the look of lau lau but it is so good. I tried it when we went a couple of years ago and it was one of the most memorable foods our whole trip. Always eat local.

I thought the soup dishes looked DIVINE. The seafood one Satoshi had, and the beef one Shinichi had. Those looked BEYOND comfort food. 🤤

I heard he created it because a cab driver stopped in and said he wanted curry but not too spicy. I think the original recipe was with cream not yogurt.

@@CravingAsia I thought the same think about the Tikka Masala. It's often attributed to being an Indian dish and is served at Indian places. Singapore seems to take dishes and "makes them their own".
I love butterfly pea flower tea. There's a local shop that has a cherry cider tea that I'm almost out of.
Thanks for this wonderful video. I have been to the Makai Market food hall, however, I have never seen an outdoor dining area where you were in this video. The food hall I have been to was in the ground/basement floor where the parking lot is?
I lived on Oahu in the early 80’s and there was a food court there wonder how old it is? Great Asian food.
Think Makai Food Court was opened in 1959, maybe under different name?

That was tau pok in the laksa. Not too different from kitsune, but fluffier.
Best plate lunch I ever had was loco Moco right near the North Shore.

I don't remember these eating places or the large food court, but I have not been there since the mid 80s. At that time, we visited Patti's Chinese Kitchen, a sadly now gone local institution that had other locations on the island as well. Even though the food was typical American Chinese, it was fun because of the fixed prices for a two, three or more item plate. If you ordered something more expensive, like shrimp, you received a smaller portion than say, for chicken. It was cafeteria style; you picked the items and they were served for you. It was popular and the lines were long.
Poi Bowl has been there over 30 years. The Makai Market has changed a lot the past 35 years.

Loco Moco is breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can eat it anytime.

Something I never thought I would hear in the same sentence Squid and coconut milk. But then again what is weird to me is not weird to someone else. And vice versa.
Usually simmered w/luau leaf aka elephant ears & salt. Very Simple, Very delicious!(maika'i mea ono)
I used to eat Kalua pork when I was a kid living on
Kauai. As an adult when I traveled back to Hawaii and looked forward to eating Kalua pork I found it too salty for me as an adult and I never took a liking to poi. Satoshi's chicken with long rice looked delicious.
FYI...At 2.4M sq. ft., Ala Moana is #8 sized U.S. shopping mall & Largest Open-Air shopping mall...In...The...World & is home to 350+ stores, restaurants & services. Way 2Go, Tabi!
that squid slop may not look that appetizing but i bet it tastes amazing
Squid chunks simmered w/coconut milk, salt & luau leaf aka elephant ears. Leaves are similar to kale/spinach in nutritional content but taste/texture is Totally different
