Lucas is the kid from the sandbox that would unite kids from the neighbourhood by sharing his Fruit Roll Up and Teriyaki sandwich amongst other things in his lunch pale.
Thank you for this video. I haven’t been to Sekiya’s since the 1980s. I recently saw this video and gave them a try last night. My Won Ton Min with Vegetables and BBQ Stick was wonderful. My family also liked the Tonkatsu and Teri-Cheeseburger. My wife could also get her favorite Chocolate Coke which is hard to come by nowadays. Definitely will go back more regularly.
I suddenly have the craving for pho, ramen and saimin all at the same time. XD Binge watching Dining on a Dime when sick at home with a cold is the worst.
Oh my gosh I haven't been to this place since I was a kid and could never remember the name every time I was back on Oahu. But I remember the fan logo! I'm so happy I found this video 4 years after it came out 😂
I used to eat there all the time when I was a kid. Kaimuki born and raised!! They got hit with a E.coli violation two separate times. Never been back since. I'm willing to go again if I had the time.
Our family would eat once a week at Sekiya's (my dad went to Kaimuki h.s.). My sis & I went to Sacred Hearts and we would stop after school for a snack. I am on the mainland now, but my family at home still eat there once a week. Damn, now I want local food!
Super big props to Lucas for being able to keep a poker face while talking to someone with missing teeth. That's very hard for a lot of people to do without showing their discomfort.
how is this season 8 already? how much time passes between seasons? i swear i've not detected a break in between them. i thought it was all one series.
Eater no wonder. Thanks for the reply. I don't know why I hadn't processed how the seasons are divided by city. Love the show. That being said, eight cities already? Lol. Thanks again.
How are you going to do an episode on Saimin and pronounce the word wrong, and you also should of went to Shige’s Saimin Stand, that place is really good as well.
Hey Lucas, don't say "state side" as Hawaii is the 50th state. :) Otherwise great review of Sekiyas! I hope you are able to go and try Champion Malasadas.
NO! WHY! I was just on Oahu for Winter Break... I really would've wanted to meet you Lucas. Anyway, enjoy the ono grindz and such. Make sure to grab some Leonards Malasadas, 7/11 teriyaki spam Musubi (it's 7/11 but don't judge), and plate lunch from Rainbow Drive In (gotta recommend the Loco Moco). Shootz.
Jennifer Ha, what a perfectly good reason to come visit our islands. We still have some old mom and pop saimin stands around, but it seems like the ramen shops are taking over the world. Eating at a old time saimin stand brings back memories of what we call "small kid time". If you ever come to Oahu, you have to eat at one of the old saimin stands to get a true feeling of what it was like back in the day.
@@jenniferha1890 you can try to make it? Im not sure how it good it would taste tho saimin is easy to make but like i am a local in hawaii so i really cant help you here you csn try to visit us tho
so happy you came to our island.. please enjoy our culture and food.
Lucas exudes so much charm in these videos, he's such a joy to watch.
Lucas is the kid from the sandbox that would unite kids from the neighbourhood by sharing his Fruit Roll Up and Teriyaki sandwich amongst other things in his lunch pale.
Rayfil Wong did you ever end up getting financing for the Sober Key?
spankmyprincess still can't believe I did not win and help others. Thx
That saimin slurp at 3:41 is among the most beautiful things I've ever seen. More noodle shots, please.
3:37 Love how Lucas handled his noodles. 😂 🤣

Feel better!
iLoveTurtlesHaha get better fast. :)
Growing up in Hawaii back in the day you rush home eat siamin and watch Checkers and Pogo.
The food looks so simple but delicious. Lucas is oustanding host as usual.
This is my aunt's family run restaraunt! I grew up eating at this place.
Oh my gosh I haven't been to this place since I was a kid and could never remember the name every time I was back on Oahu. But I remember the fan logo! I'm so happy I found this video 4 years after it came out 😂
Thanks for sharing!! I will be in Honolulu in April and im adding Sekiyas to my list of eats!
ho brah that teri-burger looks winnahs!
Lucas is so good in these series, if he had an hour long show it would be amazing!
Sekiya’s is located on the Island of O’ahu in the Community of Kaimuki located in the County of Honolulu!
This video makes me miss home!!! If only I could get saimin in Oklahoma!
I used to eat there all the time when I was a kid. Kaimuki born and raised!! They got hit with a E.coli violation two separate times. Never been back since. I'm willing to go again if I had the time.
Dang his slurping skills are on point!

Excellent first day in Hawaii. 👍
Lucas is always so polite.
I love you but the way you say saimin cracks me up xD "Simon... Saimin" hahaha
Mika Morii lol
Saimin... min min min

I thought it too ;)
dear lucas and eater. did you shoot poke dish on this season 8?
You're just going to have to stay tuned to find out! (Yes. Absolutely. There's no way we went to Hawaii and didn't eat poke)
+Eater You could also point to your Hawaii intro video to up the views! 😀
Lucas, I envy your job sooo much
:/
hahaha
Damn, Lucas on level 9000 with those chop sticks.
Super big props to Lucas for being able to keep a poker face while talking to someone with missing teeth. That's very hard for a lot of people to do without showing their discomfort.
You're awful, but so right. He didn't want to risk receiving a back slap from her, lol.
You're obviously shallow.
lucas once again delivering the goods
I really like Lucas
Legend has it, if you comment early, lucas replies
Is this the place across the street from kaimuki high school?
Yes it is!
Did you get to try the hash tempura while you were there?
Broke da mouth! Thanks for watching!
Guess whos back, back again, Lucas's back, tell a friend
if you guys come to New England and don't visit Pigtale in Nashua Nh I will feel bad for you! Amazing food and an incredible chef.
i lament the closing of saimin stands, especially washington saimin and tanoue's.
wonder if Lucas asked them what's in the broth. Shrimp-based sounds intriguing.
We did ask! It's very common for saimin broth to be made using ebi (dry shrimp). Thanks for watching!
Eater ebi is just the Japanese word for shrimp
@@eater or shoyu based
I want to eat all of this now!!
this looks like a dish called Bakmi in indonesia
Jeremy Jahaziel Indonesian food needs to be covered, it's absolutely delicious.
Jeremy Jahaziel totally thought it was yamin (the fried saimin one) and satay at first
but totally different
Great job Lucas
One of the luxuries of living in Hawaii.
LIVING FOR THIS!
This is great, I hope you guys made it to Island Style BBQ on North King Street...
most savage slurp action I've seen. keep on smashing it Lucas. 😎
he knows how to slurp and suck long stuff
The way you're eating the yakitori. Dude. I never felt more uncomfortable and insulted at the same time 😂😂
Please give Lucas a raise. Wish this was like Yelp, haha
Amazing videos, love your show! I am curious though, do you guys end up eating all the food? Looks like it's way too much for just one person :)
"something not to be read into too deeply" ......perfect prose.
how is this season 8 already? how much time passes between seasons? i swear i've not detected a break in between them. i thought it was all one series.
We produce Dining on a Dime non-stop. Every city is a season and every city gets eight episodes. Thanks for watching!
Eater no wonder. Thanks for the reply. I don't know why I hadn't processed how the seasons are divided by city. Love the show. That being said, eight cities already? Lol. Thanks again.
Time sure does fly!
great video.
How are you going to do an episode on Saimin and pronounce the word wrong, and you also should of went to Shige’s Saimin Stand, that place is really good as well.
BTW if you want Hawaiian food in LA, come to Gardena- Bruddah's, Bob's Hawaiian Style, King's Hawaiian, Gardena Bowl etc.

thats honestly weird
*saimin not saimon
Thanks for making me hungryyy :( dammmmmnnnnnnnn
Aloha Lucas, hilarious that lady's niece named "Fatso"... only in Hawai'i. 5 days not long enough to sample island cuisine.
I just ate and now I feel hungry.
Hey Lucas, don't say "state side" as Hawaii is the 50th state. :) Otherwise great review of Sekiyas! I hope you are able to go and try Champion Malasadas.
I'd love to know what "a dime" totals up to on Honolulu now?
Hugh-John Fleming absolutely nothing lol things here are more expensive than the mainland
Hawaii is great for tourists. Terrible for traveling.
thank you
ok but the way he ate those noodles...
I hope Lucas is gonna eat a lot of spam this season!!
#Eater #LucasPeterson ... every time u eat , I eat 😁😁😄 I loooooove ur short crisp yummy videos ... :-)
I would say come to San Francisco, but then the show would be dining on thirty dollars

that chop stick action when he slurps up those noodles tho
you should try Batchoy.
It is not Ramen, it's saimin. People confuse the two all the time. Saimin is unique to Hawaii only.
Tama Toa I would really love to try it! Unfortunately, I don't live in Hawaii :((

The enthusiasm this guy has is on par with a roomba that's about to die 💯
Saimin 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

That pork in the saimin is char siew from the southern most parts of China hahaha popularised from Hong Kong and to a lesser extent, Macau

2:20 feels like spongebob theme...
Bruh, is this Hawaiin Pho? I need this in my life.
Amocoru its not rice noodles

Amocoru peasant's ramen
it's saimin you wannabe hipster
Not ramen.
Once you've had saimin, you KNOW it's NOT ramen.
Ramen makes me wish I was eating saimin.
tesyn hi tuyet v ngon thank
Back when i was a kid, we called it sai-mean, not sai-min, this was back in the 60s, when did it change?
Teriyaki sauce is the name of the sauce equal parts sugar to water
oldskool
why is op's voice so quiet in this episode?
It bothers me so much when people leave their chopsticks sticking out of their food!
@1:41 LOL
That tomato on the burger is so sad. Its Hawaii! The tomatoes should be amazing.
Lol Simon, Sai-mihn
