Traded in my Toyota Corolla and got more than I paid for it 3 years ago. While I got less than I would have if I sold it private party, it was super hassle free. I detailed my car before I brought it in and they said it was one of the cleanest corollas they’ve seen, and it def paid off. Did a good wash, polished with dual action, paint sealer, glaze, wax, tire shine, and thorough interior clean.
2 years ago, I traded my GLK350 and when the dealer "walked it" he was dumbfounded. They gave me top dollar on trade... product used?? AMMO NYC I cannot tell you how much difference a regular service with these products will make. MORE than worth their price and the work needed to keep things looking great.
Hey Larry, we need more of this type of "detail and flip" stuff. Good job! Always had a admiration for the RL being a near luxury car with sporty pretensions. You earned the money here for sure.
More videos like this please! Something so satisfying about an older daily driver being cleaned up and having the video tailored to us laymen. Props for the RL too, those things are joys to drive.
Yeah, the owner just brought it to the dealer looking like it went thru a demolition derby. Of course they weren’t going offer top dollar. Gotta say, Larry really brought the paint back to life! Practically brand new. If it weren’t for the high mileage, could’ve gotten more.
So true about stickers, I don't know why people do it. At best you'll get a shrug, at worst someone will vandalize your car out of spite or jealousy. No reason to add that variable when you don't get anything out of it.
I really enjoyed watching this video. This is the exact car my sister used to have. She passed away 3 years ago and I always wanted to do this to her car. Unfortunately, I totaled it 😕 was driving through rain and hydroplanned. Watching another car get transformed like this really warmed my heart. Thanks for sharing this. Love all your content.
When my brother was selling his BMW X5 last year, I offered to do a a pre sale detail & spent a good 2 days working on it - inside & out. Fortunately, the paint was in great condition and only needed clay & a cleanse, but no polishing. Had it looking better than new by the time it was finished. My brother was impressed, as was the person who purchased it, saying it was the best looking one she had seen. Also sold it for $1500 more than he expected.
Used to work at a used car dealer and youd be shocked on the condition of peoples cars when they trade them in. In some cases we would offer scrap value to mechanically sound cars just because they looked like theyd been lived out of. Some so bad we couldnt get local detailers to touch them. Great video! Youd think itd be commom knowlege to clean your stuff before selling it but it most definatly is not.
Your the first person who I've heard encourage others to pick up a machine and polish their car. Others usually say it's hard, your gonna burn though your paint etc . But honestly looking at your vids , suggestions and steps u take is a very good way too learn and makes things a whole lot easier. Appreciate u doing that bro , people just need that extra enthusiasm and u give that through your videos.
These type of videos made me interested in Larry and Ammo. But the more I watch, the more I learn and understand to appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail of this guy!
I love seeing “normal” cars parked next to “super” cars. In my opinion, every car is a super car as long as it does it’s job. This Acura has clearly done a good job as a daily driver, and therefore I see it as no different from the other cars in the garage.
Great vid Larry ! This so reminds me of about 6 years ago. Shopping for a 1st car for my stepson. Found a cheap 09 Kia Rio from a private seller asking $900.00. Swirls, pine needles, tree sap, coffee stains on the interior and about 20 stickers on the windows. I got it for $500, put $300 into tires, wiper blades, a battery, replaced the filters which I don't think were ever changed, and spent a weekend decontaminating and polishing the whole car. I had to go get a signature on the title the following week, and when I pulled up the sellers didnt even recognize the car!
This type of content was extremely more satisfying! I loved it! Seeing your more common aged daily driver like this being cleaned up and prepped for sale, this was great! Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy the barn finds and exotic car details, but this one is definitely more relatable in my opinion. Bravo 👏🏻
Some 25 years ago, I had a black 1994 Honda Prelude VTEC. The paint was looking tired and dull. A friend had started researching paint restoration steps on the web and he shared his new found knowledge... Maguire's Fine Cut, some Kar Kraft stuff and finally, Maguire's carnuba wax. After 8 hrs or so, the car looked new. A friend commented that it added $2k to its value. Amazing.
Of course the dealer will almost always offer to buy a used car for cheaper than a private car buyer. The dealer buys it cheaper to be able to sell it for more a few days later. While the detailing of the car added a few hundred bucks to the perceived value, it's mostly the fact that it was sold on Craigslist that profit was made. Edit: Forgot to mention that the before and after is impressive, great job!
But, the deal he had with the owner was set up. So, it had to play out that way (he had to get over $5,000 to get half the profit over $1,500). $2,000 is not bad for a day's work.
Great video! I did my '96 Peugeot 106 before selling it, and got 33% more on the sell. I did: a) Cleaning, both exterior, interior and engine; b) Decontamination (chemical and mechanical); c) Compound and Polish (by hand); d) Applied sealant; e) Dressed it up. I assure you: all these steps, especially by hand, is tiring. But it is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever done - especially, after seeing the money I got from it. I can assure you: you will take your vehicle to the next level, as Larry said in this video. You can do it 👍
Larry, I've been watching you for years now, and I just want to tell you how amazing your videos are. I remember when you first started on TH-cam, I finally felt like I found someone that shared the same level of OCD as me haha. These type of videos are really informative and super helpful, especially with how crazy the used car market is right now. I'll always be a fan, I look forward to all your new content! :)
That acura rl is actually a sports car. Has the j35 motor that the nsx has. And it is loaded. Aluminum body, very light and very fast.awd. I have the same car. Best and most reliable car.12 years and counting.
Stopped by a dealership to look at a car for my wife and they offered to buy my truck. Told them I would take 43k for it and they said it’s not worth more than 34k. I said ok well you have two of the same model trucks on your lot with lower trim packages and twice as many miles for 50k so maybe they should mark those prices down. They guy said it’s business so I told him I would take my business down the road where we bought 3 new vehicles.
There is hardly never any reason to trade in / sell your car to a dealership unless you want to get rid of your car asap and don't care about losing a few thousand dollars compared to taking the time to sell it yourself.
I remember watching a older video Larry made about the stripes technique for carpet when I was a porter for a Lincoln dealership in Long Island I’ll clean up they’re vehicle after service and I did this technique. They saw it when they were picking it up and I got tipped a lot for doing this. Well worth it!
Glad you've been killing it out there man, a long time follower here. This is actually how I got into professional detailing by flipping cars and detailing them myself.
Always amazed at how dedicated you are in making these cars come back to life after having lived a rough life! But it definitely helps being OCD to be a detailer. Devil is always in the details! Between you and Alex from LegitStreetcars, you guys take up most of my day! Great job brother!
My father always told me to take care of your cars in detail. For the pleasure of having a clean and nice car as well as when it comes time to sell, making more money from it. I am not formally trained, just Year’s of practice has made me a pretty decent detailer. Yet I learn from your videos still. I also catch myself sayin “I do that”. Thank you for making a video which reiterates this belief. Keep up the great work.
The important part I think you kind of passed over was saying “so I don’t have to have four more meeting’s”. People always undervalue time. The day could have come and gone and four people could also have come and gone then the show starts all over again! Don’t be greedy, play the game and think about what it costs to have a car taking up space, what it costs in time showing a car. Great video and I’ll ask again!!!!!!! UK 🇬🇧 distribution?????
Loving these. As a car enthusiast these full videos still provide very informative information despite not completely being a tutorial video. Very entertaining and helpful!
These are the details I usually do for the majority of my customers. Carpet stripes are always fun, and for my BMW M3 customers…I’ll end up doing a special pattern to mimic the M stripes.
I love that you've got all the equipment, products, lift, lighting, and awesome workspace, and just like the rest of us you're utilizing a cracked, worn, busted ass pad of some sort to rest your knees on while you detail the lower part of the car, haha.
Just polished a car for the first time today using a DA polisher. It turned out good. Glad I have watched your videos on how to do it. Was a great help.
Idk, for me, aftermarket wheels are usually a turn off, unless they're from a real manufacturer. But so often, they're cheap, flashy, heavy nonsense which tells me a lot about the previous owner (as do the brand of tires). If there's a cheap set of wheels on the car, and the seller doesn't have the OEM's, I'm usually walking away. Thankfully, American Racing is a real brand so you're good
Making sure a car is mechanically sound has nothing to do with checking the engine, transmission, etc. It has everything to do with where the car is located, the seller, the reason for sale, etc. Tires from Walmart or 2 different brand tires on a car is a major red flag.
honestly most of them switch out oems because of tire selection. for example the gs series from lexus had a 16 inch tires which are really weird to get tires and never have stock. i can imagine this was the same for the acura.
What an incredibly clear and detail description. As a lifelong educator, gotta just say 👏🏻. You have a talent for this. Thanks for all the great tips. 🙌
This was fantastic!!! The hammered humdrum daily driver angle is super interesting. I appreciate how down to earth and realistic you are about managing expectations. This was an amazing result and yielded exactly what you needed. It was still a night and day transformation that was super satisfying to watch. I hope you do more of these.
I can’t put a number on how long I’ve been subscribed to AMMO NYC but I can remeber the days before his products started being recognized and sold and he was cleaning his wife’s Subaru in the driveway, even before his personal garage got a renovation and got cabinets! I love this channel and after getting a 2019 ram 1500 I’ve been babying it as best I could following as many steps as I can following your videos!
This was a great addition to the regular format of the channel. Down to earth. This is a requirement to wow private party buyers. Dealerships could care less about spotless trade-ins and it has seldom impacted the negotiation above market value in my experience.
Really want to say thank you for this video. After watching this I cleaned my car inside and out and also danced while polishing (it is a lot of fun you are right) and traded my car in for 4,000 above KBB value because of how clean it was. Thank you for your videos!!!
You tend to get more for your car selling it private. I really wanted him to get another trade in quote after detail. Just to see what they’ll offer. Great video as always
"Filleting fish on the decklid." Classic! Great video - funny, informative, accessible and inspiring. You've taught me a ton over the last few years Larry. Thank you.
not to undermine your work but i think this was my fav episode of all time because its something us normies can learn a lot from and i think a lot of people can learn from this not just how to sell your car but also how to be presentable overall. me and my brother we share one car and we always keep it tidy and tight and the leaves a great impression. one time i didnt get a job but the place i went o interview was super good so i strolled the area came back and the manager there was waiting for a car ride to half way my home i offered to do that and i didnt get the job but after he sat in the car he was blown away by how much clean it was and since then i never go to an interview without having my car or bike cleaned.and you dont know unlike me that guy might call u back for that impression itself
I had this same car in gold and just got rid of it less than 6 months ago. Nothing special but a reliable and comfortable daily. I too took car if it meticulously and it still looked like a new car. Used Ammo all day everyday and it still pops. My niece is driving it now as her first car.
Been loving the details of more common and interesting cars recently! Exotics are cool but nothing is better than seeing a real life car and situation for details.
This is exactly the video I’m showing my clients who call and say they need a clay bar done but don’t want to pay for polishing. I never clay unless I’m polishing after. Most cars are neglected by the time they get to a pro.
Sorry Larry, but staging that care at your pristine shop with and R8 in the driveway and a Ferrari beside the car probably added $1000 dollars to the final price. That being said you did an AMAZING job on the car.
It works. Tried trading in wife’s 2011 outlander XLS, offered $4k(AUD). Took it home, detailed it over 2 days. Wife took it back on the Monday and they offered $6.5k!! Snow, wash, clay, dry, polish, SIO2, done.
love these videos that apply more to the regular guys, simply detailing a car well can add alot of value especially for trade ins, ive heard of dealerships service departments charging up to 1000$ simply for reconditioning trade ins.
Thank you for having never left the DIY'ers behind in your videos. As amazing as it is to see you work on the exotics and barn finds, videos like these keep me coming back again and again.
Car was so dirty it was almost a joke. If I were the dealer, I too would have low balled the absolute heck out of anyone bringing in a car in that condition.
I can do this to my silver car (because it never looks anything like a black vehicle's paint). It always looks understated even on day one when brand new.
Larry I have a hot tip for you! For the carpet in the foot wells that you cant take out of the car, use a handheld massage gun on the carpet with the vacuum nozzle right by the massager! The vibrations shake loose every single piece of dirt buried deep in the carpet like magic and gets sucked up by the vacuum! Its one of the most satisfying things to watch. lol I think the viewers would get a kick out of it!
22:22 another thing I do personally, never apply conditioner once.. the leather is most likely dry and dehydrated, and one coat of conditioner will absorb fast, and will not have a greater effect. Letting the conditioner soak in, then reapplying another coat will get the material inside the leather, resulting in better hydration, buff smooth for a more even finish. The same goes for porous exterior plastic.
Larry, I have been watching your videos for the past 6 months, and am amazed how you not only you show the before and after, you explain the process, equipment and your awesome products. AMMO NYC is the best on here!! Keep it up!! Oh, and if you ever have a class I'm all in.
Yes, I thought the same thing. Dealer trade-in versus selling private party is not an apples and apples price comparison. Larry not only did the heavy lifting on the detail but took even more time taking some nice pics, weeded through the bogus offers on CL and then booked all of those viewing appointments. A lot of people don't want to go through that hassle and that's why dealerships can offer less and make a nice profit. IMHO Larry should have received more than 50% of the pop as he did all of the work on a pretty rough car that never was a big seller. Nice flip. I'd like to see more like this.
I had a 2008 RL...for a 2006, that one is in great shape actually. I didn't see any rust which is what destroyed the door handle area and the rear area where the body meets bumper. Awesome seeing the transformation with a one-step.
Awesome video! About the trunk scrattches...for me, it was my wife. When we first got married, I noticed that the trunk lid became her package shelf for whatever. She'd get out the car and place her keys (yikes!), her purse, boxes, iPhone, iPad all on the trunk lid. Do that for a few years...or ten, and that will take a toll on the finish, for sure!

My friend's 2013 Genesis Coupe had similar deep swirling on the trunk and rear window. Lived in the High Desert in California at the time and got stuck in a few sand storms. The swirls appeared after first time driving in a storm. I figured it had something to do with the aerodynamics of the car and the way the air moved over the roof and trunk.

Larry, you’re really making a lot of fans widening the kind of projects you do-keep it up! This would be a great addition to a “Level up” series on the studio channel to help anyone get started, professional track or hobby. For those of us in apartments without access to water or electricity, I’d love to see a “remote” detail using typical home tools & maybe a DIY car wash.
For shear contrast of detailing a car this is one of the better videos I’ve seen. Kinda of nice to see, especially the interior, go from so bad to great!
I owned a an RL for 6 months, drove it and loved it, learned how to work on cars with it and sold it for 2400 dollars profit. Awesome intro to luxury cars, awesome awd system, ridiculously good brakes too. Miss it!
I was offered $3000 for our '10 Prius with 162k on the clock last summer at a dealership. Detailed it and put it up on FB marketplace and sold it in 2 days for $6500.
That was a spectacular video. The understanding of what keeping a car in good shape can do not just running wise but visually is amazing and a lot of people don’t understand that. I just bought my f250 but when I traded in my BLACKED OUT dodge 1500 I did a fine cleaning on it and I got I think 2-3K more than what I was offered 2 weeks before when I was looking around dealerships and it was dirty from lack of time and busy working schedule. Thank you for the informative video sir!
A part from my wife and dinner, I love nothing more than coming home on Friday to watch a new AMMONYC upload. It starts the weekend off right. Thank you, sir.
i have experienced such trunk un neatness and i know what causes it . it is because of the refuel at petrol stations see when you have the fuel filling cap far away from the refill pump station and trying reach the fuel hose to refill your car and you put fuel pipe or hose on the trunk in order to reach it this causes in result .
On vinyl stickers, instead of scraping at it, it's easiest to start in a corner (blade centered) and gently swivel back and forth. Sticker will peel off effortlessly and cleanly without any residue left at all. I did vinyl removal and replacement for years. Mostly on bus shelters.
I do this for fun to flip used cars and always make a good profit but this guy definitely did a lot more than I do. It’s mostly about the presentation and delivery 👍

Props for the RL too, those things are joys to drive.
no matter what KBB said, in today's market, 5500 is a steal haha good job man!
Agreed, I want strangers and passersby to know as little about me as possible.
Also u r, in some cases, advertising for free, for a company that wouldn't give you a dollar off, so f that.
It makes some people to see reminders of things that are important to them. Reminders of family, pets, or meaningful times in their life.
Love seeing these "normal" car details.
Excellent 😊
My thoughts exactly, a dealer is always going to go as low as possible compared to private selling.
agreed, the before and after was still pretty amazing though! i would say it added at least 1k to the value.
But, the deal he had with the owner was set up. So, it had to play out that way (he had to get over $5,000 to get half the profit over $1,500). $2,000 is not bad for a day's work.
Great video!
I did my '96 Peugeot 106 before selling it, and got 33% more on the sell.
I did:
a) Cleaning, both exterior, interior and engine;
b) Decontamination (chemical and mechanical);
c) Compound and Polish (by hand);
d) Applied sealant;
e) Dressed it up.
Karen knows her cars.
Private sales will always be more than what a dealer would give you
Yeah but not a $4k difference most times. The detail definitely added value.
I don't know why i watch these videos but once I start I can never seem to stop. Strangely entertaining.
They guy said it’s business so I told him I would take my business down the road where we bought 3 new vehicles.
cool story
lol, they offered to buy an item that wasn't for sale and then lowballed you? As dick moves go, that's pretty bad.
There is hardly never any reason to trade in / sell your car to a dealership unless you want to get rid of your car asap and don't care about losing a few thousand dollars compared to taking the time to sell it yourself.
You never told us how much the other place down the road offered for your truck.
Of all the things that didn't happen, this didn't happen the most.
Even if you went to the Harvard nobody cares had me dying 😂
Always amazed at how dedicated you are in making these cars come back to life after having lived a rough life! But it definitely helps being OCD to be a detailer. Devil is always in the details! Between you and Alex from LegitStreetcars, you guys take up most of my day! Great job brother!
You could car cleaning guru, its like ASMR of car cleaning.
Excellent job 👍👍 I owned 2 Acura RL they're super reliable great in snow can easily go over 500,000 miles that lady got great deal also 🙂
The important part I think you kind of passed over was saying “so I don’t have to have four more meeting’s”.
Larry is like the Bob Vila of car detailing. A true legend.
I absolutley love working on beat up cars like this, the before and after is always so satisfying!
I still can't believe how you can change the look of the car from a mess to (almost) brand new. OMG. Amazing job well done.
Enjoyed the 20% to 80% detail just the same as the last 10% super rare car details! Amazing work
What an incredibly clear and detail description. As a lifelong educator, gotta just say 👏🏻. You have a talent for this. Thanks for all the great tips. 🙌
When Karen sees this video and the profit margin, she's going to come back and want to speak to the manager!
thats an imaginary profit. blue books a joke
He earned it and no one twisted her arm! The $1500 from the Dealer is what they’d like to steal it for.
@@richardmorse5307 It was just a joke since her name was Karen.
Profit margin shouldn’t matter to the customer. It’s the value that matters to the customer.
🤣🤣
This was fantastic!!! The hammered humdrum daily driver angle is super interesting.
I appreciate how down to earth and realistic you are about managing expectations. This was an amazing result and yielded exactly what you needed. It was still a night and day transformation that was super satisfying to watch.
I hope you do more of these.
Cleaning a car (or any product) before selling, can make all the difference.
When you showed the polished part at the very beginning, it was so reflective I thought it was glass!
Same. Was looking forward to seeing some glass polishing
Larry, you are absolutely killing it with these videos! Watching them is so cathartic. Keep up the great work!
I had this same car in gold and just got rid of it less than 6 months ago. Nothing special but a reliable and comfortable daily. I too took car if it meticulously and it still looked like a new car. Used Ammo all day everyday and it still pops. My niece is driving it now as her first car.
My guess for the marks on the trunk is one of those cheap strap on bike racks.
After every video, i want to comment: thats the best video you ipload till now.. then, it comes a new one 😄
If it looks that terrible odds are the oil hasn't been changed for 30K miles
I can do this to my silver car (because it never looks anything like a black vehicle's paint). It always looks understated even on day one when brand new.
I actually learned the difference between a clean car vs a detailed car just today, this was really really helpful and informative.
Love this type of content!
So many people under seatmate the value of a good detailing. You actually make money doing it!
Love your work Larry. Come to Australia!
Larry, I have been watching your videos for the past 6 months, and am amazed how you not only you show the before and after, you explain the process, equipment and your awesome products. AMMO NYC is the best on here!! Keep it up!! Oh, and if you ever have a class I'm all in.
Thx for the support!
Would’ve been interesting to see how the trade-in offer changed after the detail.
I bet if he took it back to the same place, they wouldn’t have budged. Just as a matter of pride. Frickin dealerships.
5:30 freakish ears on a stand

WHATRE YOU DOING FRANK
Oh! My PKCELL!
Nice content mate! So happy to announce that I have gained financial freedom by investing in digital currency. Now I know that multi creation of various streams of income is the ideal Principle for financial sustainability.
I have secured financial freedom by investing in bonds, equities, NFT's and crypto currency the most profiting of them all..
I got 70% of my total portfolio in crypto and I have been making good profits.
I wanted to invest more in crypto, but the fluctuations in crypto value discouraged me into dumping.
@@paulvince1503 Crypto trading is the best investment anyone could get into. As it could make you rich in a blink of an eye, trading with an expert is the only key to successful trading
I have heard a lot of investing with Mr Chen R Zhang and how good is he, please how safe are the profit?
My friend's 2013 Genesis Coupe had similar deep swirling on the trunk and rear window. Lived in the High Desert in California at the time and got stuck in a few sand storms. The swirls appeared after first time driving in a storm. I figured it had something to do with the aerodynamics of the car and the way the air moved over the roof and trunk.
Sand blasted...were you able to correct the marks?
Great work. As a former detailer for many years, I appreciate your dedication to DETAILS as I do as well. The car looks amazing
I like this video because not everyone needs or can afford a $2000 steamer. As usual, all these videos motivate me to keep my vehicle clean and pristine the best I can. Great job as usual Lawrence. :-)
I paid someone to do my car. They brushed the interior, but never polished or made it look like it should've
I just had to put that here because I felt wrongfully charged.
Anyone who is cleaning cars. Check out 11:22
"Remove any clue that "anyone" had been in the car before them"- the buyer" 12:28 THIS IS HOW you clean these..
Thank YOU for this video.
THIS is how I expect the car to be cleaned if I'm paying for a car detail..
This woman must be lucky! 2006 Acura RL is still nice car in 2022.
Great video . Just had our new lexus fully detailed . Interesting to see what they do . I finally know what Clay barring is . Shout out to Glass Effect in Sydney Australia .
