Low car protip: To prevent rubbing when pulling a low car into a driveway, enter it at a 45* angle and then straighten out when both front wheels are past the dip.
The “orange peel” at the bottom of the panels on the car is called rock guard. I’m in the collision repair business and when we have to fix or replace a panel we have to apply the rock guard to match the rest of the rock guard from the factory. Usually is just a spray can. It is applied on top of the primer (because primer is designed to fill or build.) then you have to use sealer before you continue with base coat and clear coat to avoid the color of the roach guard material bleeding through.
The standards you work to are great and I love the cars, but its called "stone chip" applied to the lower sections of the rockers to protect them and then sprayed over..........
Before i complete video i'll stop at 15:46 and want to ask somethings.....since i don't know what condition cars were i mean to say why you don't do dry ice thing for undercarriage and why didn't you started from claybar after washing instead of polishing

That's def. a Meyers Manx style dune buggy. There have been so many replicas and Manx style reproductions its gonna be hard to find a maker if there aren't any marks on it.
Your BMW 2002 has round tail lights and chrome bumpers so it was probably made between 1968-1973. The 1974-1976 models had black rubber bumpers and square tail lights. Maybe yours was first titled in '74 (but was probably a '73 model). This car can sell for 10x what you paid for it, but seriously consider keeping it. These cars are super fun to drive and only going up in value. Awesome score!!!

Even without being a Quattro, those Audi B2 Coupé’s are still very good looking cars in my opinion. Especially with those beautiful period correct wheels this car has. I think the US only got a 2.2 liter inline 5 with 100HP? There is a pristine gun metal grey one driving in my town with a VAG 1.8T 20V engine swap. I can’t help admiring it every time I see it.
There are SO many very similar vintage buggy bodies out there... Though the hood shape is different, this looks very similar to a California Clipper or Sand Winder. Though Meyers did make an actual Manx Corvair too. The rear seat area looks a bit different though, with the recessed sections between the rear fenders. Also, since this is in Northeast, you'd be shocked to find out how many buggy/kit companies were in the New England area.
Nice work on a so elegant Audi Coupe. I understand this model is the same engine as the original UR Quattro ? Also, a gorgeous dark blue Ferrari (BB512 or a variant) at 33:54 !

Those 5cyl engines are damn bulletproof, especially in non-turbo form. CIS maintenance is a lost art, and IIRC there are some hard to find or NLA CGT-specific bits that can cause you some heartache. It's like a more complex Golf/Rabbit of the era.
I bought a new one in 1985 and put 238K on in in 8 years using it mostly for a dedicated courier service all over NYS in all weather conditions. VERY low maintenance! Fuel pump and starter motor replaced at just over 210K. Oil changes were a snap. I did all the maintaining after the warranty expired and it was very simple and not expensive at all. Regret selling it. Picked up a 2000 A6 4.2L in 2007...a bear of a car, and still have it with 190K on the clock. V8 always starts up immediately and always eager to go (and drain the bank account with premium fuel fill-ups).
Situation with the hood is like this. Primer has been sprayed in cold weather, probably in heated garage, after spraying it was left to dry, temperature has dropped rapidly and primer started shrinking... That's happened... Love your work and videos💪🏻

Great video Larry. It might be interesting to go more in depth on the orange peel on the rocker panels of some cars. It's not a painting technique per se, but a coating that is applied before paint. Almost like a lighter version of a spray on bed liner. Back in the day we called it chip guard.

I remember as a teen driving this car in the Chicago North Shore area. It looked awesome back in the 80's You guys did a phenomenal job on this detail. It's still a head turner. Movie Trivia answer......The Bourne Identity 2002.
@@chrisk6309 He's wrong. If you look at the time stamp 4:16 you can see the front suspension setup from an aircooled VW. That is 100% VW under that shell. You can also see the fuel spout coming out of the hood. Thats where the factory Beetle fuel tank is.

Another great video. On 2 terrific base models of incredible generation of iconic German cars. However I'm very excited for the 2002. Since I use to own, work and race. 2002's, Euro twin carb Ti's, and of course 2002Tii's. The round tail lights with the front pointed bumper-ettes indicate this is really a 1973!!! Which has a far better suspension and road feel than the 'water bed' ride of the square tail light lower horsepower 1974!

I manage a detail shop in Boston. Currently I'm driving an older BMW X5. It's a 2001. I scored it for a very low price. Needed a few things. Sensors, brakes, tune up ect.. But these years are all aluminum and they don't rust. It has the 4.4 v-8. I did a few mods and it really moves. Do you guys have any videos where you bring an older x5 back to life? I'm always interested in seeing how another shop goes about the process. By the way I've been in the business 32 years.

The buggy looks like it’s a 1966 Meyers Manx Volkswagen came out in late 60s early 70s. They are just a fiberglass body mounted on a Volkswagen chassis. They are rare I believe,these buggy’s were usually for the beach Scene. Let us know what your friend plans to do with it. Looks like a cool project.
Hi! The Buggy at 4.20 is a Manxter based on vw cox. The Manx was a buggy very popular on the 60’s/70’s Was body fiber, vw cox motor and many possibilities of tuning mods on demand.

I doubt that the BMW is a 1974. It has the old alu front grill + round tail lights but it has the newer lower side trim. That has to make that car a 1972 or 1973. Very nice though, very collectible.
The purpose of the "orange peel" on the rockers is because the rockers are sprayed with a heavy rubberized coating befor final paint that acts as a bit of protection against the rock chips and road grime like you have mentioned. It allows the paint to be chipped off without exposing bare metal.
This is awesome, but why not just bring the car to an automatic carwash with undercarrage cleaning to get all the major dirt off before you tackle it? $20 car wash could save you 2+ hours. Yes, I know you're an expert and the content is a major part of it.
Dune buggy isn’t a Meyers Manx and that’s really the only thing that matters. Meyers Manx was the original dune buggy and hundreds of companies made knock offs with slight differences and this is just one of the many knockoffs. That said it’s still worth building cause they’re an absolute blast.

0000 Steel wool and some heavy polish will get rid of any residual water spots or funky haze... figured that one out on an old VW that the PO used a garden hose to periodically rinse "clean"

Could you make the audio a tad louder? I'm HOH and had a little trouble hearing even with earbuds in and the phone at max volume. Maybe it's just me, but this video seemed quieter.
Those uderline scratches are pretty typical if under then primer is sanded too coarse and then used 1k primer. After time the 1k primer sinks into these scratches and become visible to the top layer. With 2k primers this is not so much problems as they harden and dont sink. 1k primers/fillers just dry and keep on drying and shrinking for pretty long time.
Audio levels for your channel have been a bit low. But then very loud at points. Like the exchange from 3:07 to 3:11. Narration volume is great, but the volume of people filmed is not.
I mean i understand it's a hobby for some to refurbished the car, but why get so many old car and have then rot for 10 years in your garrage or even outside? Clearly the number of cars is beyond the person capacity…

Confirmed. I purchased my 2002 in 1976, the last year they were made. Still have it, fully original. It was an amazing car back then and still is.

They go down to Australia six months a year and rub in the other direction so it balances out.

It is a spraying technique it is having too much pressure and spraying too close so it is a spray technique with paint that isn't properly catalyzed
The paint shrink explanation was great! That is what I love about these vids, you can learn from Larry!

But these years are all aluminum and they don't rust. It has the 4.4 v-8. I did a few mods and it really moves. Do you guys have any videos where you bring an older x5 back to life? I'm always interested in seeing how another shop goes about the process. By the way I've been in the business 32 years.

The buggy looks like it’s a 1966 Meyers Manx Volkswagen came out in late 60s early 70s. They are just a fiberglass body mounted on a Volkswagen chassis. They are rare I believe,these buggy’s were usually for the beach Scene. Let us know what your friend plans to do with it. Looks like a cool project.

Hi! The Buggy at 4.20 is a Manxter based on vw cox. The Manx was a buggy very popular on the 60’s/70’s Was body fiber, vw cox motor and many possibilities of tuning mods on demand.

1985 Audi Coupe GT was my first car that I'd purchased outright for myself not long after graduating Syracuse. Great memories. Saw a red one in mint condition here is Washington, D.C. last month. MD plates and the driver looked like Gandalf (Ian McKellan).

I doubt that the BMW is a 1974. It has the old alu front grill + round tail lights but it has the newer lower side trim.
That has to make that car a 1972 or 1973. Very nice though, very collectible.
The purpose of the "orange peel" on the rockers is because the rockers are sprayed with a heavy rubberized coating befor final paint that acts as a bit of protection against the rock chips and road grime like you have mentioned. It allows the paint to be chipped off without exposing bare metal.
This is awesome, but why not just bring the car to an automatic carwash with undercarrage cleaning to get all the major dirt off before you tackle it? $20 car wash could save you 2+ hours. Yes, I know you're an expert and the content is a major part of it.

Dune buggy isn’t a Meyers Manx and that’s really the only thing that matters. Meyers Manx was the original dune buggy and hundreds of companies made knock offs with slight differences and this is just one of the many knockoffs. That said it’s still worth building cause they’re an absolute blast.

0000 Steel wool and some heavy polish will get rid of any residual water spots or funky haze... figured that one out on an old VW that the PO used a garden hose to periodically rinse "clean"

Those uderline scratches are pretty typical if under then primer is sanded too coarse and then used 1k primer. After time the 1k primer sinks into these scratches and become visible to the top layer. With 2k primers this is not so much problems as they harden and dont sink. 1k primers/fillers just dry and keep on drying and shrinking for pretty long time.
Audio levels for your channel have been a bit low. But then very loud at points. Like the exchange from 3:07 to 3:11. Narration volume is great, but the volume of people filmed is not.
Those old audi's sell for anything between 15 and 30 grand in Europe. The BMW goes for around 20 grand (Euros)
