With almost 1000 comment you probably won't see this but I will enter it anyway. As a retired physician I have a couple of recommendations. 1. Write down on paper all of your questions for the surgeon so you are not trying to remember them in the moment. 2. Do not let them end the appointment until all of your questions are answered. 3. Bring a trusted adult non family member into the room, they can be your eyes and ears for things you may miss, we are taught patients and family members only hear 1/3 of what is said during an appointment, especially with bad news. 4. The questions you mentioned in this video are good but be sure to ask what is the youngest patient this surgeon has done surgery on. The best adult orthopedic surgeon may not necessarily be the best for a growing young man, that is why there are pediatric orthopedic surgeons.

I’m sorry you weren’t told from the very get-go how very traumatic this injury was. As a retired x-ray tech, who worked in an orthopedic clinic, I knew that you had a very long row to hoe, and I was surprised they didn’t do the hip replacement from the very beginning. However, I’m not sure you would’ve been willing to except that at that time. Sometimes you have to watch the ones you love suffer to the point that you’re willing to go through what is needed for their benefit. My heart goes out to you. This is not an easy road. This is not! May God guide you in your decisions and give you strength. Most of all, Jonah is a strong young man, and I am sure he will come through this with grace and as we watch, he will strengthen us to endure our trials with equal magnanimity.

I know you guys live off youtube content but your son looks uncomfortable in the back seat as you talk about his medical information to the whole world. Have you ever considered keeping his privacy? Even if he says he does not care that you share it, it is wrong to do this. Keep your son's medical life off the internet preserve his privacy and integrity. People need to know the fine line on what should be shared on youtube. This is how many youtube celebrities just go down hill. They forget their children are people and that their identity and medical information should not be broadcasted to the whole world.

As someone who had both femoral heads replaced at 18 years old. 40 years ago, I can say that it is just a bump in the road, I have hiked in Alaska, rode jet skis, built a log cabin and carried 3 pregnancies without any further issues.

My nephew had a total hip replacement done when he was only 13-years-old (his hip was crushed in a car accident) and the doctors had him up on a walker and crutches the day after surgery, putting "feather-weight" on the affected leg. In just a few weeks he was full weight bearing with only some restrictions on his range-of-motion (temporarily). Today, ten years after the total hip replacement, he is insanely active, doing everything and anything he wants to do. No pain and full range-of-motion. He does all sorts of sports, including rock climbing in the mountains, hiking, soccer, baseball, hockey, canoeing and kayaking, swimming, long-distance biking, and tennis. He also goes hunting every year and does a lot of camping. Nothing slows him down. He recently graduated from university and is working full-time as a high school teacher (biology and calculus) and is the coach of the football team. You'd never know he had a total hip replacement.

You should message Tony Hawk the skateboarder. He broke his femur and it took 2 surgeries and is very much back to normal. May be worth the effort to reach out.

Observation told me he was worse, but to have a totally necrotic hip! First, to Jonah…you are a remarkable young man to have suffered through all of this journey. To the parents…forgive yourselves. Given what you knew at the time of the injury, you did your best. To the children…hug your brother, be kind and be strong for him. Jonah, you are in my prayers. This will pass. You will find a way to use this suffering to bring good in your life and in the lives of others.

I strongly recommend Brenner’s Children’s Hospital Pediatric Orthopaedics. This is in Winston Salem, NC. It’s an Atrium Health facility. Wouldn’t be much further of a drive than Charlotte would be for you guys. Straight up 40 East.

I want to tell you guys a story about my great uncle. He was in a bad car accident when he was 14-15 and it broke his hip and pelvic bone and many other things. After recovering and the doctors doing everything they could at that time over 50 years ago. I remember him walking with a huge limp his whole life he also ran a farm with just him his wife and 8 boys and 1 baby girl. He ran cattle about 500 head, goats, chickens, and a full garden. Don't give up! He died at the age of 98 He was one of my heroes him and my dad! I hope and pray the surgery gets you to a healthy place and pain free! Do not give up! You got this!

I realize you might not see this. I come from a background in Healthcare -my last 12 years at a pediatric hospital. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference a pediatric specialist can make. I urge everyone I know to go that route. Not just the doctor or surgeon, but the facility, the staff... whole different ballgame. Wishing Jonah the very best! ❤️

Justin you want to go to Duke. Hands down. The work they do is beyond mind blowing. They took a tumor out of my head in outpatient surgery. My dad got a cutting edge inside the heart chamber pace maker. It cost the same amount to walk in there as it does anywhere else. My sister is a physician there and the stories I've heard are insane. Praying for you and your family. Give them a consult, I think you will be extremely pleased.

As a parent, I felt mommas pain. I cried right along with you! I hate to see anything bad happen to anyone, especially a child! We will be praying for you all and all doctors and surgeons that are involved as well.
