Jonah....I'm an old lady who has been putting off a hip and knee replacement for years. You were so brave. I have used babysitting my grandkids as an excuse. No more excuses. You have inspired me to get it done! I pray for your speedy recovery!

Bless his heart! I had a total hip replacement 11/1/22 after a fall. I spent a week in Mission Hospital, then 2-3 wks in CarePartners. I'm 63, so I'm sure age makes a difference. One piece of advice I would give Jonah-do all of his physical therapy, and more! The more he moves, the better he will be, in spite of the pain! Prayers for quick healing! 💙🙏

I have a 16yr old that has been fighting brain cancer since she was 18 month old. We had her first surgery a day after Thanksgiving. That is the hardest part is the wheeling them away and waiting.... prayers for Jonah... hugs from Oregon.

That is tough. My son had to have skull surgery to remove parts of it when he was six months old, which was delayed as much as possible as he had an immature respiratory system-nothing as challenging as for your 16-year-old and family.

he's anything but poor, Tina, really, he has a loving family & a family that has the means to help get medical care. He has a great situation to get the best food & lives in fresh air. He's going to have a quick recovery, Gd willing & inspiration to recover bc he has ambitions & a mind & body to pursue them. I mean this gently - I'm not criticizing you. Not to worry!
That pain is life changing. For the worse. I know - was absolutely unable to move for 2 years with hip problems. So pleased Jonah will be making progress after the surgery heals.
I had double hip replacement at 35 and never looked back. He is going to live a completely normal life. Very happy to see his pain relieved!

Bless his heart, I know how he felt. Hip joint replacement is one mean surgery and recovery. By the time you start hurting the pain meds are too late. It takes a lot to get pain managed once you start feeling it come on. I'm sure by now he's running a 5k if he wanted to. However when it comes to crossing his legs, left over right it will never have full motion like his right one. I had my replacement at 61 and it was no picnic. A year later I blew my right meniscus all to pieces. It took as long to repair it as it did to replacement my hip. I really did a number on it.

So glad I did my hip replacement 10 years ago and I was 53! I can't imagine having it done so young! My best advice is do the physical therapy! I know it hurts, but will pay off in the long run!

Our son had a double lung transplant for CF when he was 29 and I still feel the thoughts we had as they wheeled him away..7 yrs later he's a new man , married and happy ..thank God for His tender mercies

We've been with you on this count-down to what is hopefully the final surgery you will have to see for this issue. Know that our support is with you.
We're praying for a full recovery. Thanks for agreeing to share this with us. Fifteen is a difficult age, and even moreso when you put yourself up for everyone to see at your most vulnerable. I hope you can know just how much we are impressed by you and respect you for this. There is nothing you've agreed to share with us that makes us think any less of you. Rather, the opposite. You just grew 10 feet tall in our sight.
Continue at the pace you feel is right and know that we're all pulling for you.

I broke my hip off my leg 2 years ago and I had a horrid surgeon. Now my right leg is 1&1/2 inches shorter, I am in near constant pain, I can barely get a sock and shoe on. I can not properly lift my right leg. I can not bend over. I am a grandma but your doctor is fantastic! Home same day as the hip replacement! WOW! I wish I had your doctor here in Indiana 😄.

Here we are, another year and another surgery together Jonah. We both started our journey together last year, and we're both healing again with another surgery this summer!!! You are definitely a HUGE inspiration to me young man!!! May your days be filled with sunshine and laughter to help the hard days of healing and physio float by a little smoother. I'm looking forward to getting out into my garden and playing with my grandchildren. I'm sure you're just as eager to get out at those farm chores that you love. Rest up and don't push too hard. Listen to your body. It will always guide you the right way, just like those amazing parents you have.

It seems rare that a kid would be having a hip replacement surgery, but thank God this brave and awesome kid is such a soldier! His way forward will be blessed from here on in!

My husband (35) broke his hip in February after crashing his bicycle. Thankfully he was able to avoid a hip replacement and be repaired with the “femoral neck system” aka screws. He did not have the complications that sweet Jonah had and was non-weight bearing for 12 weeks. My heart goes out to you all. Talking about the pain medication and staying on top of the pain was a huge issue the first couple days but thankfully my orthopedic nurse mom helped build a schedule. We’re on the other side and it gets better but man, you all were out through the ringer on this. Sending love and wishing Jonah many joyful romps in the near future!

As a kid that had 21 surgeries pain management is important. its hard to catch up, i had a major hip surgery at 17 and hes gonna be fine dude. i think i was playing soccer 5 weeks after the surgery, but the first 2 weeks were rough

I am a dirt bike enthusiast. I just came upon this adventure and I must say, you did a great job as a family through all of this. I raced from the age of 8-16 and there were many injuries. I also had a hip replacement at 45 and went on to earn a black belt in Karate. Your sons hip is going to be good as new in about 10 weeks and he will have a very good life. Dirt bikes are dangerous but also fun and exciting! Good luck with everything and God bless!
Jonah, I know how hard the next few weeks will be and how bad you want your life back, please dont push it. You need to let yourself heal properly. It is absolutely fantastic you went home the same day as your surgery. I had a knee replacement last year and I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. One of those weeks was because of the way my body responded to the way they handled my pain control during surgery. My thoughts are with you as you recover but remember to do your exercises😊
