- The CT scan revealed two bone fragments in Jonah's hip socket. He has to have another surgery to remove the bone fragments.

Yes, Jonah and the family will be having to make adjustments for some time to come. He will have his physical therapy, but the farm chores, as he's able to get to them, will be more than enough for that. Thank God he's young and will have so much resilience and support to help him heal and rebound.
God looks after His own, Jonah is helping to educate people all over the world and to let people know about the good, and bad, that has to do with homesteads and emergncies. There are so many smaller issues we tend to overlook, but The Rhodes Family is doing great work at bringing so many of those issues to light.

If I've learned one thing about Jonah in the last 5 years of watching him, it's that once he's healed and back at it, he will be engineering a new and improved hip. That's what he does. Makes things that work better.

Hopefully he will not use anything his dad doesn't want him to use. Otherwise he will get humiliated once again in front of thousands of people.

Was thinking that too 😂 or at the very least engineering a new safety feature on the dirtbike so he doesn't have another accident and makes his momma feel better about him riding it.
Really glad to see that Jonah is being kept fully aware of his treatment and what's going on. I hate the way some parents and medical staff keep their nearly-adult kids in the dark about that kind of stuff. And I'm impressed with how the others are stepping up, especially Josiah. Oh, and that thing with the berries and red stems when you were clearing for the next sheep paddock? That's Japanese Knotweed aka Pokeweed, and it's a huge pest here in Australia. Best way to control it is to slash it down, then keep it grazed to the ground on the regular. Best to never let it fruit if possible as the birds will spread it in their droppings. So the sheep are the perfect solution.
It's a pest in the US as well. I am constantly fighting with it in my yard. It doesn't help that my neighbors don't pay attention to when it is in their yards (or when they do, won't eliminate it cuz to the it is "so pretty and free color") ..... and don't want to hear that it is invasive. Thank you birds for spreading the seeds 😡. Not the easiest to get rid of. I am ever watchful and when I see sprigs of the foliage, I get the roots out then and there. I learned the hard way, it if gets away from you and gets to a foot or more, digging the root is a joke ..... it makes a loooong tap root and it is very fibrous ..... if you don't get it all out, your gonna have another plant quite soon ...... then it is time to pull out the big guns (aka herbicide).
Such strength as a family. Those children taking up any slack is just amazing. Still praying for Jonah and all of you.
It’s clear to anyone watching these videos that Jonah really values contributing to the farm, and he can be hard on himself if his ideas don’t work out. I hope he can tell himself that his only job now is to get better. Do the physical therapy. Use the quiet time to explore new skills or areas of knowledge. Lots of us look forward to seeing Jonah come back stronger and more capable than ever.
that's right, Lil Joh please use your recovery time to explore new skills, a sharp mind it'll always gonna be the best mind ever, and remember, no matter how hard it is the fall, the lesson comes from what you have learned from this experience. There's an amazing power that you can develop and sharp it while in bed.... it is called reading, thinking, wondering........ about everything, from the mostinsignificant matter till the worst of feelings. ......getting better isn't feeling ok, but learning how to be better as a person, a son, even a farmer boy and you're already better than me, so I hope amazing things from you!
@@robertorego9070 I can remember spending too many sick days reading, wondering, and researching. It's the best use of time and helps you to figure out where you want to go, ultimately. I was able to use recent downtime to rethink my plans for the garden and flock, as well as plan out projects that will take me well into next Spring.
This is an excellent idea and one that many people overlook. Thank you for suggesting this as a fantastic plan for some recovery/downtime.

Jonah, I had hip surgery like yours when I was twelve years old. It's no picnic but you're tough and you're going to get through this. Your brothers and sister are stepping up and doing the farm work - your job for the next few months is to heal and recover. I know you're going to do great because you're a solid young man.

Definitely pokeweed. Some southerners eat the green leaves, but the whole plant can be toxic especially the roots and berries.
Also a native and fantastic forage for critters and birds! 💚🤍
@@Ladygreencrochet Pokeweed salad is only good in the spring, really. I've heard you can boil it clear of the chemical, but don't think it's much worth trying. I like my kidneys as they are!
As a child, we played with the berries. They make an indelible dye.

Not sure he is as "strong" as he is in a position of an offer he cannot refuse.
@@kupski1964 but he gets to choose how he responds to being stuck in a situation outside of his control. I would describe how he is handling this as being with strength and perseverance.
Those are some amazingly smart children! That's the types of kids I want. That loves to be outside, that play in the dirt and is not glued to iPads.

Oh my gosh, poor Jonah can’t catch a break! It brought tears to my eyes when he was explaining his surgery to his dad and he was just so sad and when he said I won’t be better until Winter. Healing thoughts for a speedy recovery and no more complications!
This takes me back to when my son shattered his leg in a motorcycle accident about a year after my daughter had died. I was so scared and it was so hard to watch him in pain. That was 15 years ago and he is doing great now. I know Jonah will emerge from this experience stronger than before and thrive. my thoughts with your family

I’m so sorry you guys have had to go through all this. We’ve followed you guys since permaculture chickens and have loved watching the kids grow up. We dream of being able to live the homestead life someday ❤ My husband is an orthopedic trauma surgeon, if you want a second opinion or even just someone to answer questions about the surgeries or what to expect recovery wise, the pros and cons of hardware removal in the future or anything like that he would be happy to look at the X-rays and Ct images and talk you through them.
Also, an encouragement to Jonah, my brother dislocated his hip in a motorcycle accident while he was racing, he did have to have a surgery a couple years later to remove a bone chip that was missed but he is right as rain now. With all the healing modalities I know your parents are going to get you doing you are going to heal fast and be good as new in no time! Homeopathic arnica and staphysagria are my top two go to remedies for surgery recovery.
That's so nice of you! I'm recovering from a total hip replacement and was thinking about all the post-op instructions - like keeping a pillow between your legs when sleeping, not crossing your legs, and not bending over more than 90°. Always being careful so as not to dislocate it. I think he's not going to be doing farm chores for awhile. Good thing in his favor is that he's young and healthy. That will help so much with his recovery!

I hurt my foot the other day and I thought that was bad............ Jonah i hope you see this im 13 today and i want you to know that i truly could NOT deal with the pain and surgeries. Your doing great!!!!
The thing that people always ask about pain is how do you deal with it. The answer is that you just do. And you would be able to also. Dont under estimate yourself.

I am so remembering my pain I was in after my car wreck almost a year ago. He is being a brave boy. So proud of Jonah.

I've been in your shoes but didn't have so much to take care of at home. My son broke both ankles on his dirt bike and needed pins in his heel bone he almost lost his foot. He couldn't walk for a good while he had to army crawl once he started getting a little better. My thoughts and prayers are with you all! Prayers for a full recovery 🙏 wish I was closer we would come help.
His siblings are sure stepping up. I'm sure their big brother is very proud of them. He and you all have taught them well.

Holy toledo, Jonah is tough. When the doctor was describing what went squirrelly, I thought, "wow. That is incredibly painful, to have a sliver of bone stabbing into you all the time." Now they got it out, he'll feel a lot better after the inflammation from surgery goes down.
Wow! So glad they went back in or it might have healed all wrong. Kudos to his Drs for finding that and fixing him up. It is great to see Josiah stepping up and taking over for his brother. Jonah will need that help for a while but looks like Josiah’s got this.

Glad the CT scan showed that splinter otherwise it would have healed wrong. Wow. Praying for Jonah and the family to keep up their strength and for a quick healing to take place. Lily is doing a fantastic job keeping the family fed. In fact all the kids are doing a fantastic job on the homestead

This brings back so many memories. My son had a dislocated hip at 8 years old and had the same surgery and has a screw in his hip. I felt the emotions all over again watching this.

I am always so impressed with Jonah's spirit, he is such a sweet boy. Sending well wishes, hang in there Jonah. I went through something very similar with my oldest son who was 45 at the time. It never gets easier to see our kids in pain.

It's a incentive spirometer, you have to take a SLOW deep breath and hold your breath. It's to keep the air sacs open. Get better Jonah.
And maintain air flow so you don't develop pneumonia.

Prayers for a smooth recovery don't push your recovery too soon that will make it take longer your hip will ache for quite awhile .my broken jaw ached for about 3 months when they give you exercises to help keep with them even if it hurts after you can get back to normal keep strong

Wow what a rough few days poor Jonah has endured, he will be so happy when he finally gets to go home. As much as this has been horrible, I’m thankful that he will be on the mend now, and thinking about it, it could have been so much worse. He is going to be up and around very soon. And yes he needs to get back on that bike once fully healed. ❤❤
