honestly good for the green haired girl for finding a tattoo artist whose red flags as an artist match all of hers as a client.
that blue/green haired person was wild for complaining about not getting someone who specialised in black & grey fineline. if i understood correctly, they just walked in without an appointment. how can you expect to get exactly what you want?! maybe they didn't even have someone who specialises in black & grey fineline working at that moment. if you want someone who specialises in the kind of tattoo you want, then do your research and book an appointment.
edit: so they said later on there were other artists speacilising in black & grey fineline but who knows. maybe they were with other clients at the time, maybe they were booked for later on. point stands that you should do research and book an appointment if you want a very specific kind of tattoo (and don't fucking steal other people's art/tattoos lol).
At first I thought they were showing the original flash piece they’d gotten, and I was like okay, cool. But just finding a fine line tat off social media and bringing it to a traditional artist to do??? That was never gonna go well. The artist sounds pretty awful, too, but the situation was set up to fail from the start.
yeah, she should have been patient and booked with an artist who did specialize in it. she was clearly not happy with the interactions and surprised she did not leave sooner. The artist should have been more professional and declined the work especially after the constant questioning of things. red flags from both.
She got me so mad.
Sounds so freaking entitled and really thought that everyone would be on her side, feel sorry for her and blaming the artist even tho the artist were honest that he specialiced in another style and so on.
And it even seems , according to her own version of this story, that he only started being rude after she had been questioning and a little condescending towards him and his work
I think his side of this story would make me even more annoyed and angry at HER (client) not at him (artist)!

I can understand the rule of no photos or videos while an artist is tattooing! I feel really pressured when people are watching me draw, and that’s the last thing you want when you’re putting permanent art into someone’s skin.
I suppose the person being tattooed is watching them tattoo, but when a camera is pulled out it’s different, you know? I realized what I said sounded dumb in the context of tattooing after I posted my comment! 😂
people also tend to want to get really up close to get a good shot, and it gets in the way. I'd be scared of them dropping their phone too. my mentor told me someone once dropped a raisin they were eating on a person actively getting tattooed because they leaned over to peek 😭
There's also a surprising amount of people who are hiding, for good reasons. It isn't talked about because secrecy is kinda the name of the game but.. Abusive family or exes etc.... having your face + place of work blow up on social media can put you back on someone's radar and that can be dangerous.
The girl, that wanted the crying eyes tattoo, definitely got them from Pinterest. I just found both of them on there.

I got really woozy getting my last tattoo (a year ago now). I had eaten a full meal and was well rested, but it was literally a blizzard outside and the studio was really fing cold. Turns out shivering while undergoing a bodily trauma really takes it out of you. Fortunately the artist was awesome, immediately knew what was happening, and set me up with a heater and some honey sticks!
I had something similar happen last month. I was getting a large piece from elbow to armpit, it was like 17° outside, and I was shivering a bit. I got kind of woozy and let my artist know. Well in his station there's a sink and some cups. I grabbed a cup, filled it up, chugged it, filled it back up and chugged it back to back about 15 times while my artist and his apprentice were watching
That sounds like it can be compleatly true.
Shivering is littelary your body trying to produce heat by contracting and relaxing every muscle in your body.
That talked energy, burns some calories even!
So you will be exhausted after a while! Add being tattooed at the same time to that.

I had the opposite happen, when i got my tattoo it was ±30°C/86°F and I thought I was eating and drinking properly, but once we were done I threw up and almost fainted so 🙃
I've noticed that tattoo studios in the West Coast are ALWAYS cold. Which is unfortunate because I can't completely cover up if I'm getting a tattoo, ugh

She hadn’t done any research and posted this video to get everyone agreeing with her, feeling sorry for her and blaming the artist but i just feel: ”FUCK NO BABE. This one is on you!!”
The artist didn’t do anything wrong. She went to him and wanted him to do this. That he isn’t specialising in what she want isn’t on him - most artists (that isn’t like really famous) can do most styles if you want them to, but have some styles they’re better on then others - in this case american traditional.
He didn’t hide that that were what he specialised in.
About the attitude: if he acted like that - that’s not ok BUT i feel like his story might be different and that she were a pain in the ass to him before he started to have the attitude.
That’s just my personal gut-feeling about this due to her acting pretty entitled about the whole thing in the beginning and blaming him for everything.
Also: she’s saying ”i don’t want you to freehand it” - Drawing with a sharpie is that really freehanding?

It's still called freehanding. No artist should tattoo someone without a stencil or sharpie drawing, because then the client don't know what they're getting. They have to see the design on their skin first so they can consent to it being done.

They did do research it wasn't as deep as someone researching for months plus it's clearly a walk in which alot of tattoo artist do I'm healing my walk in Friday 13th tattoo rn , also he was going to copy a tattoo from pintrest along with the other things they said even if some of the things they said werent true there still was red flags . Plus we don't know shi about this person or the tattoo artist so to say he was probably going off their energy is goofy it comes from this idea of a "gut feeling " but it's not a real thing we are all humans with biases and bigotries ingrained in us by society cops have gut feelings about black men who are unarmed as dangerous same with antisemitism these can be justified as gut feelings it doesn't make it true .
I know a couple have made notes about the green hair girl, but the first red flag was her. The design that she wanted and as Treacle mentioned its stealing someone else's art. Just the way she is talking and mannerisms it comes off that a tattoo to her is like a necklace, not art, just a popular trendy accessory that she will regret, but she is desperate to fit in right now. This entire THREE part story came off that she wanted a bit of attention or at least commotion from the experience. Especially at the end of the third part it was odd how she started hyping herself up

I'm worried this could be a case where the artist didn't actually have any kind of "attitude" with them or anyone else, but now that there's a public bad review online, the shop owner felt the need to let them go to save their own image. :/

I love the little rant about letting people get any combination of tattoo styles. I have five tattoos at the moment, three are watercolor and traditional combined, one is script, and one is simple lineart but they all have so much meaning to me.
Alot of times they takes pictures of your tattoos in prison, is also to check if you are related to any gangs. Gang fights happen alot in prison and if you can identify them before hand that helps.

It's also in case you escape or a natural disaster hits as it can make identifying you happen faster. It's very multipurposed and does occur every time you go in more than 3 days
OMGGG I watched that girls video about the eye tattoos and had the same thoughts!!!! Even commented on the part 2 saying like... don't steal designs, research the artists and book in advance AND it needs to be bigger with lots of detail!! So frustrating.
My thoughts on portraits: pay someone to paint one 🤷♀️ at least you can bin a canvas if the relationship goes wrong!
Most tattooers who specialize in American traditional also just do walk-ins. It's not just about doing tattoos that people think are simple or "old school" - it's about being able to do anything. Tattooers in the 90s (and before) did everything. People who can do traditional really well can also do simple eyes that some random girl got off Pinterest. I don't know why she thought that was out of the scope of someone who does traditional, but she doesn't seem very educated on tattooing.
Edit: This girl has 2.5 million followers so take all this with a grain of salt.
my stepdad went to prison for armed robbery before meeting my mum and he's the most honourable, kind man I've ever known. He served most of a 20yr sentence because when he was in prison, he witnessed a lot of abuses by the staff on minority inmates (now an ongoing human rights abuse case in my country!) and joined protests in solidarity so he got extra time for 'behaviour' inside 🙄 (literally just threatening to testify on behalf of other prisoners when he heard them being tortured with scalding water and wire bushes). Plenty of folks with previous convictions are good people who got caught in the crossfire of a difficult situation, especially when they were young and vulnerable at the time of the offence.
people can make mistakes and still be good people. people can be caught up in bad situations and be good people. just because someone has served time in prison or jail doesn't mean they're a bad person. there's a false narrative that "jail time= bad/scary person".
My dad is one of the kindest people, the most hardworking I've ever known, and he spent almost my whole life in prison, 40 years. He's been out for a year and a half. He was there when a murder happened, the murders were people he knew and they pinned it on him, He could have been out after 15 years if he just admitted to committing the murder, he refused. He had a lot of issues with his rights being violated and being railroaded. Finally got a judge to rule in his favor that his rights have been violated and forced them to parole him after denying him for 25 years for no reason. Now he's built his own construction business, is trying to save up money to help me get a house, he constantly does charity for people.

my tattoo artist used to do colour tattoos for his first few years and I got a full colour forget me not and it's one of my most meaningful tattoos. since then he's stopped doing colour so all my others are just black and white and I love that my most meaningful one stands out as my only colour one and I like to joke that it's my special edition tattoo cause he did them for such a short period of time 😂

@@treacletatts I dig some digging idk if he’s the artist OP is talking about but Brian Tagolog is a tattoo artist who was born missing 2 arms. And he’s awesome, better than a lot of tattooers with arms… Also sanitary, he wear foot gloves! 😍

I feel like the one with the anime eyes has more to the story, like I feel as if the artist and the client were kinda getting an attitude with each other which prompted them to make a video trying to look like the innocent victim. I see it all the time

As a diabetic with quite a few tattoos I've thankfully only had one low blood sugar moment and it was when I was getting my left foot colored. Almost passed out in the bathroom lol!

I have anxiety and PTSD so the mix of having someone really close to me and dealing with tattoo pain used to be really stressful. I started using numbing cream and it's made the tattooing process so much easier. Very lucky to go to a shop that sells it and an artist willing to work on numbed up clients. I bleed so much less and don't feel sore after either!
Re the prison taking pics of that girl's tattoos - probably not dissimilar to when sailors went to sea. My granny told me a while back that her dad - my great grandad - had tattoos on his hands, and apparently in the crew records on his ship their tattoos were written down so that if someone went overboard and their body was recovered then they could be identified easily.

I'm literally about to get an R for my right hand this weekend. Adding a sword in there .... To represent a knife because that's the hand the knife goes in when you eat but my dyslexic butt forgets every. Single. Time. 😅
Last time I was arrested, it was like a photoshoot lol. The county I was in could only attach a few pictures to your mugshot so I was damn near doing gymnastics to get my arms and legs in pictures together. The ones we couldn't get they had to take detailed notes on.
I am getting my very first tattoo. It’s a half sleeve of some flowers. Different ones represent family members and then I have some calla lillies because I had them in my wedding bouquet and it’s been nearly a year since my husband passed suddenly (he was 42, I’m 38). That’s about the extent of my “loved ones tattooed on my body” thing. No names. No faces. Representations yea. No matter what happens they helped me become the person I am. So a representation of that is a good reminder - but not their face or name. It’s awkward.
I don't comment much but just wanted to thank you! You made tattoos seem less scary for me and after watching you for 2 years I finally found an artist who's style I love. Just waiting to here back from them and hopefully I'll have my first tattoo, so excited!! xxx

Had a dear friend pass out after her 7th small tattoo. She wanted a lot of these little patch work ones in different spots. She was getting her last one, an ankh on her wrist. She stands up really fast saying she felt sick and landed in a hallway near the bathroom. I tried to run after her but had gloves with blood and ink all over them. The person assisting me that day got to her first. Poor lady was not just a client but a friend and so I felt so awful. Turns out, she later went to the doctor and told them about it. She found out along with her known diabetes, (which we took all the precautions for blood sugar issues) she had a bad case of POTS. So the tattoo ended up getting her help for a condition that can cause you to black out if you stand up to quickly and hit your head. If she had not found out then about it she could of ended up really hurting herself, as apparently POTS can flair up if you tattoo over veins and it affects your blood pressure and it was on the inside of her wrist. Thankfully she did not hit her head and my assistant at the time did prevent that.
The blue/green haired girl gave me the ick. I’m not gonna say the artist wasn’t rude but all in all she was definitely the more problematic one. The whole influencer thing was weird too. I’m an Instagram “influencer” but I don’t make it a big deal or feel the need to tell everyone and whine that I can’t share every experience with the internet.

I want a body positive tattoo that’s decorating the areas around my (deep) neck scar. Because honestly I shouldn’t be alive after what happened to me, and the scar has so much potential to be a gorgeous piece, like an old fashioned zipper, or something floral. The giant scar on my arm looks just like a rat’s tail. I hope I can get a realistic rat near the scar, so he would have have a 3D tail 😊
There was a guy at my old gym that got his first tattoo aged 63, it was a zip on his scar from his triple bypass surgery

Love when you talked about mixing styles. I have 4 tattoos on the front of my arms: 2 of them are thick, bold, black eye of ra on each wrist, one is a painted black and red moon with clouds, and the other is a bunch of doodled planets and flower in full bold colors with korean lettering. They're all so different but I don't really care 🥰
My eyes face me and I use them as a meditation guide. My moon and planets face the "correct" way. Nobody has mentioned anything about them being mismatched styles or facing different directions, I just get tons of compliments about my tattoos as a group!

Also, I've had an artist tell me she wouldn't move my tattoo because she liked it where it was and then instantly started working on it. I wanted it moved maybe half an inch up to match a tattoo I have on my other arm. Still bothers me.

I am usually afraid of "confrontation" or speaking up but I think if I take the plunge of getting tattooed, I'd have to be 100% about maybe not liking anything or questions I'd have. Because I don't want to regret anything permanent.

Getting your loved one, bf gf so, whatever tattooed on them, 😢you gotta be deep in love with them for that. I know someone who was with her first husband for nearly 70 years and they both had a few tattoos, but even they didn’t get the other’s name or picture on their body. She did go in later and get something for him after he passed and she was devastated (understandably so). Her current husband took her to a tattoo shop and got her a tattoo that she shows off with pride😅
The couple in the first TikTok looks under age, so obviously only a bad studio/"artist" would do a throat tattoo of the boyfriends face - plus a fine line portrait on the throat sounds very hard to do in general because throats are not smooth and they could move. Not a single aspect of this idea sounded doable. How in hell did they think this was a good idea (rhetorical question, we all know at least one of them has trust issues and maybe one of them even is posessive)?

13:38 I don’t have a back tattoo yet, but my idea of getting lotion back there alone is to take cling film and wrap it around a rolled up (long ways) towels be put lotion on that way. Kind of shimmying the same way you do when you dry your back out of the shower. 🤔
THe best part of my Elhers Danlos Syndrome (never thought I'd say that lol) is that I CAN put lotion on my ENTIRE back!

Also that girl towards the end, while it sounds like she did have a pretty shitty artist, wasn't a saint herself, and I'm glad you covered all the reasons why. She just walked into a random shop and expected a specialist in the style she wanted, as well as intending to blatantly steal someone else's art. Plus, saying "I was willing to settle for this" really doesn't sit right with me? You shouldn't be "settling" for anything when it comes to getting a tattoo, you should be able to get what you want provided it's not an impossible ask of the artist. Also being disappointed that he wouldn't let her film is fine, but the fact that she treated it as another negative of the experience just gives me a bad feeling. Not wanting to be filmed is completely valid! Honestly I'm just so tired of people on tiktok telling their "bad tattoo experience" and then just dropping a bunch of reasons they're a bad client while still thinking they didn't do anything wrong.

Imo it's fine to use public domain images (preferably altered to make it personal) but if anyone used my original art as a design without asking I'd feel really uncomfortable.

10:15 What you said there is just.. yes! I suffer from self confidence issues and similar issues, recently I got Ellie’s tattoo from the last of us- and thankfully it’s helped with it because now I see a badass tattoo from a game that means so much to me!
As a previous correctional officer, we took pictures for many different reasons. Reason #1. So we can recognize the person from far away or right away if need be. If they are large and visible, it's easy to tell who it is. #2. We document the tattoos so we can tell if someone has gotten any tattoos in prison. If we see a tattoo that we don't recognize was there before, we take the AIC down and compare the photos. If they don't match, they get sent to Seg for tattooing in prison (this is of course in the state of Oregon. I do not know other states that well) #3 Also for recognition, but in case of an escaped AIC this will help the police to track them down faster.
Plus gang tattoos. I know they keep tabs on gang affiliated inmates.

my tattoo artist specializes in black and white traditional/neo traditional, she's also good at a lot of other styles though and has beautiful color work. she did my sisters japanese style koi yin and yang tattoo as well. i think it just depends on the artist how many styles they are comfortable with doing. just going to add as an after thought: that doesn't make trying to get someone elses art tattooed without their permission right.

Honestly, I had some dizziness with tattoos sometimes but it always went away pretty quickly. But dang I just had surgery on my knee on Monday and when I tried to go to the bathroom for the first time when my PDA was worn off enough to hobble on my good leg, I almost fainted on the way and the bathroom was just outside my room lmao. Luckily I followed instructions and had the nurse come to help me.
I saw that portrait one the other day and the glove thing immediately struck me, but just now I just noticed that the machine isn't wrapped, either. 😖
10:22 about the “left” and “right” dilemma, if you make an “L” shape out of your pointer finger and thumb like a capital L, only one of your hands with produce an L facing the correct direction. The other hand will be a backwards L to you. You don’t have to tattoo your hand or wrist to figure out which is your left and which is your right. Just use your thumb and pointer.
Also, when I was 15 and my mom was teaching me how to drive she knew I was struggling with direction (up or down) on the turn signal stick in the car so she told me “think of it like upright vacuum. Up is right. You push the turn signal stick upwards to put on your turn signal for a right hand turn”. Unfortunately I didn’t understand the correlation until this year, at 30 years old. I asked what the hell does a vacuum cleaner have to do with a right? I get it now. I learned the difference long before I understood the euphemism.

16:46 I know that laser removal looks painful, but I had my first session on my collarbone just over a month ago. The pain is sharp, but it reminds me of either a rubberband being flicked against your skin or hot fat spitting at you from a pan, the removal is also quick. I always say if you can handle getting a tattoo there in the first place, you’ll handle the removal.

When I was hospitalized during a mental health crisis, they said they were going to have to take pictures of all my tattoos and I just like. Stood there. 😂 it was 4:00 AM and my only interest was dying, so it was very awkward! They ended up not taking the pictures, but I had to go through all the placements and details verbally 😂
