I *hate* tattoos that are only made to look good for Instagram. It gives me major trust issues and it leaves me unsure of how good an artist actually is.
I really appreciate how much emphasis you put on the topic of longevity of tattoos. It's something that, I feel, more artists should discuss with their clients. I started getting ornamental designs across my left arm and my artist was very particular about how we should maintain a certain distance between some lines and shapes, so they don't merge together as they get thicker over time. It's really nice to not only get a nice piece but also learn about the reality of how these things age over time.
I wonder what percentage of his audience doesn't have tattoos. It'd be cool of he did a poll. I don't have any tattoos, I also love that other people get tattoos. Idk why I find tattoo artist reacting to tattoos to be so entertaining, but it is and I'm going back and watching every single video lol!
Hey, same here. Used to be a painter and got sick of my own stuff on the walls and figured that cool t-shirts can be switched out lol. I always joked about tats with the sisters of mercy lyric 'PAIN, looks great on other people, that's what they're for'. Agree that tats are cool and getting really rad but not for me now or ever but a continuing fascination.
My favorites have always been neo traditional and blackwork. Don’t know if you’ve done a video about it but I’d love to see your take on brutal blackwork and the more extreme side of tattooing/ body modification. Tattooed eyeballs, all that jazz.
Been loving all your videos man! I appreciate that you state your opinion but back it up with facts about tattoos. Absolutely love your work too and would love to get some work done by you in the future!
As a physical watercolor artist, most watercolor tattoos really bug me.. like I just think they’re usually ugly big streaks of color or drops/blobs.. You should never use just basic solid colors for watercolor, use color theory for shading and blends When done right I love watercolor tattoos, but most I’ve seen are ugly IMO
the issue with the healing critiques is you cant actually know it depends on the artists technique specific ink brands etc also if it fades cause of sun exposure thats thats wearers fault thats what sunscreen is for or a parasol... only way to make a semi ok healing critique is by looking at the artists healing pictures and see if they have a multi year healed picture. one of my artists is constantly spammed with people being like oh it won't heal well or wont last l even though she even has many pictures of healed tattoos several years old that still look great. but people don't bother looking. it wont last is just a very lazy critique that is also usually unprovable until many years later. in the end its the clients decision and shouldn't play into if a tattoo is a good or bad one
love blackwork but i agree, that is not a great representation of it - gimme a solid saturated blackout any day of the week over that... or a nice blastover piece!
the rules of tattooing are defined by the properties of human skin...but you'll always have artists blinded by arrogance who think they can somehow revolutionize what's already been resolved. .
I have a 20 something yr old yellow rose from John saletra when he was in Venice and it’s still yellow. But every orange from shops I ever got disappeared except my moms orange I did myself w my kids is ten years n running
yeah, that first one already looks like the bottom is much older and already starting to fade. the first thing i noticed. also, i can’t stand portrait tattoos. i don’t want to look at someone else’s face when I’m looking at someone. the worst is when someone gets a dead family member on themselves- i can only imagine how messed up it has to be for their significant other when they’re getting intimate 😬
The first tattoo you should have showed an example of how it fades badly because otherwise it just looks super good. You have to come with visual receipts for your audience man.
There's a filter/over saturation on it, I'm surprised he didn't call that out. Also, its not his job to hunt down the person who got inked and find it healed. It could have been posted recently, so still fresh. But even if not, he's not out to play detective, he's speaking from experience. Anyone with a lot of tats/experience, will know he's speaking facts. He doesn't need receipts. Google it yourself ❤
I designed my tattoo and learned that some of the only colors in it will fade over time. I made sure to tell the artist to at least black outline it. I will enjoy the colors for as long as possible.
Hahaha true. But I do like a ton of different style, Chicano black and grey, neo traditional, tribal, fine line etc. but at my core I’ll always be a traddy kid
I'm also a traditional guy but black and Grey realism can look cool too if done right. I think the "only good on photo" problem is especially apparent with a lot of bg realism though
I can appreciate some other stuff like tribal and bg realism. Really well done tribal like what Leo Zuluetta was doing and Jared Leathers is doing now looks great. And of course the traditional tribal of Pacific cultures. Stuff that looks like it belongs on the body is always better than stuff that looks like it belongs on a canvas
Does that one white tattoo count as triable though? Iv never seen that style be linked to triable designs as triable is usually having to do with specific designs for a specific reason. I always looked at that style as more alien? I think I saw someone describe it as aliens scarification which would makes sense for the white/ red pallet
almost any traditional style, Russian traditional, Japanese traditional, American traditional and some island/tribal tattoos not the y2k era tribal real tribal are the best, anything else in my opinion just doesn't look like a "tattoo" I think a tattoo has a specific look / style to call it a tattoo.
When i get tattoos I actively seek input from the artist, if I have a bad idea I want them to tell me no!! which has happened on multiple occasions where they say well if we do your idea it would have to be this way because of xyz and i appreciate that. i want a tattoo artist who is going to have opinions and an artistic vision. I love bright colorful neotraditional style tattoos and with the exception of 3 that i got done in the traditional style have all held up really well over the years. surprisingly the 3 traditional style tattoos are the ones that look the worst, where the outlines have spread out the most and the colors have faded the most.
i think that a lot of the stiles u don't lick are just abstract. and social teleological change always has an impact on art .( not saying I love or hate the stills ither) just saying that of cores the existents of social media will have an impact on the stiles of art and esthetics that people are engaging with
Good video, I totally agree with you. That fine line realizem is one big shit, how can People say It's realizem. What if this fine line realizem increased, how it looked, like a shit. You get mé what I mean. 👍🤟🤙👌
@@felix-ve8jkSo you think they should just get rid of color realism tattoos? That's crazy. He talks about red, yellows, and oranges fading yet he still uses those colors in his tattoos so what's the difference. I have many tattoos with those colors that haven't faded at all and it's been 10 years since I've had them.
Great question, the difference between color realism and other color tattoos is that color realism tattoo don’t use black outline to keep the structure intact. If a tattoo with strong outlines colors fade you can still see and understand what the tattoo is. When the color realism tattoos colors fade your left with an unidentifiable image.
Sorry lad you are wrong. As someone ( me ) who tattoos portraits for a living. Black and grey . I attend lots of amazing conventions. Like top tier conventions and the colour work is insane. beautiful now - dont about the future, that so much in tune with the quick media
These types of artists should devote themselves to illustration, not tattooing.
I once walked by a tattoo shop that had a sign in the window that said “We tattoo ALL 3 styles” and that made me laugh hysterically.
Traditional, Neo-Trad (Neo-Americana) and Japanese Traditional- the three kings.
For me just traditional and black work thanks
@@MatuIlMito Same! Can't go wrong with those.

in what area is it?

The fine line tribal looks like what we do on set as makeup artists to make the skin look zombie or alien or diseased lol
I'm glad you got the lapel mic.

First thing I thought too. Now we have to Google search on our own I guess 😂
I think it's an airbrush job and not a tattoo
You can see on the lower arm where's its healed how it doesn't look good

I have a full color tattoo with Lottie black. There is a lot of contrast and a lot of there 7-15 year photos look fantastic

It's called cyber sigilism.
I am thinking to tattoo on forearm but what tattoo style should i choose that wull last forever and don't fade away and gets blur

Everybody absorb the yellow differently. I've seen 25+ years old tattoos with bright yellow you won't believe. But I've seen yellow gone in 5 years.

In time a color realistic tattoo will look like it’s been lasered off. A trad color or neo trad will just look aged in time, but still intact.
