Honestly contacting artists is so scary. Especially when they don't have Instagram or email, I am NOT ready for any phone calls
the first time i called a tattoo artist (i was 17) i asked if they did tattoos...
This is why it took me until I was 22 to get a tattoo! I wanted one since I was 15, but even after I turned 18 I was too scared to call. This was before instagram and not every studio even had a website, so you had to call or go in and talk to someone 😳 (finally got one when I had a friend that also wanted one and was willing to call for both of us 😂)
My dad helped set up my first tattoo but after they always called me. I had them call like twice after I got mine to check if they finished it or not (they did)
@elimina5197 the last time I called a tattoo artist, they told me to come in to book, so I went in and they told me to text them to book and then they never responded. I found a really nice artist after though and she did a wonderful job on my tattoo, so it all worked out.
I contact my artist through fb messenger and it’s so much better 😂 I CANNOT handle phone calls
Blindness is a spectrum! Legal blindness doesn't mean complete/total blindness. Someone can have central vision loss, where they rely on their periphery, or peripheral vision loss (like me!) and rely on their central vision. Thank you Lauren for acknowledging that blind people are artists and have talents and skills! That being said, sucks that his technique led to scarring. I'm just wary of the harmful stereotypes this person's video brings up - poor hygiene, etc.
yeah, i don't think the blindness was the main problem there. also, "legally blind without glasses" means that with the glasses, they probably had more useful vision.
The tattooist probably just had bad technique
I think this is the situation too. My boyfriend would be legally blind without glasses, but he's still good to drive and all with his glasses on. His prescription is -9 in one eye and -9.75 in the other 😬 Funny enough he's a digital artist
What happened to that woman is NOT OKAY and I feel awful for her. It probably doesn't have to do with the dudes eyesight, but regardless he shouldn't be tattooing anyone
Agreed. My Mrs (prior to her surgery) was legally blind without her glasses. She could see general shapes and colours.
I think the reason the tattoo is so heavily scarred is due more to the infection caused by uncleanliness, rather than because the gentlemen was visual impaired. Individuals who have a disability can be artists, or teachers, or lawyers, or social workers.
Honestly I had a nurse one time with full sleeve tattoos both arms and I was like "This guy is probably the cleanest guy in this whole hospital" and also he was so freaking nice to me. I made sure to sing his praises to the cardiologist.
You don't put bumper stickers on a Lambo, but you sure as hell put a custom paint job on that sucker!
I started getting visible tattoos after major weight loss, surgical scarring and leaving horrible relationships made me snap out of the fear of being judged. Now I just love every bit of it and can't wait to tick off more of my favorite artists ❤
I love that! It’s must be cool to have basically a permanent signature from your favorite artist! Go for it! Life is all about starting, starting over, starting again, and just growing and changing all the time. Glad you got through all that, god bless❤️

i've always wanted tattoos since i was young, but what really pushed me into actively getting my first one was getting SA'd and it leaving scars either side of my neck from my attacker biting the hell out of me. the tattoo process was sooooo nice and therapeutic after that experience and helped me get my mental health back on track so much faster than it would've otherwise. we couldn't tattoo the scar tissue at the time so instead we did a beautiful base to build off of and have it wrap up around both sides of my neck eventually.

I'm having a pretty big surgery on Friday and the nurse that drew a blood sample for it yesterday had a beautiful forearm tattoo that distracted me and made me feel safer as an alternative person.
That one about feeling awkward about talking to your artist about booking appointments is painfully relatable. The funny part is I’ve made friends with some artists 😂

I always wanted to get a tattoo, but emotional damage from doing PhD actually pushed me over that edge 😂 now I have 3 big tattoos - penicillium fungus, fuchsias and uncanny berries with eyeballs, and a spooky crow. When I defend my PhD I think I will get a tattoo of a sword. In Finland when you defend a PhD you can get a sword. Sword is hard to bring through airport customs, so I'm considering more portable ink alternative.

Also, do get the physical sword too, even if it's a wall hanger it's still completely awesome. For moving etc., you can probably DHL-it over.

I’m working on my PhD too and am definitely going to get a new tattoo after I’m done. Not sure of what yet. My focus is on food access so I’ll probably do something around that. But i didn’t start getting tattoos during my program, I started as soon as i turned 18 😂 but i did restart therapy because of my program!
I didn’t make a video about it but I definitely went and got a face tattoo right AFTER getting a job once.

I get tattoos and piercings because I feel like they're character customisation in video games and I don't wanna just stick with the default skin 😂
The woman in the second tiktok is so real. I always feel like I'm asking way too much of them by literally just asking them to do their job.
My tattoo artist will ask me about my OC that I want to get tattooed, I will answer and I will walk out of that tattooshop thinking I infodumped way too intensely and he probably thinks I'm weird and annoying now. Like girl. He asked. He would like to know what to incorporate in the design. That's his job.
The emotional damage one really hit me in a funny but ouch kind of way! 🤣I guess I'm in it for expressing myself, but mainly since I've had depression for a pretty long time, that's why I'm not afraid to say that most of my tattoos are contrasting (the whole one limb in color and other in black/grey, even white) to depict the roller coaster that my emotions are always in!
My tattoos are kind of like “time stamps” of my life for me. Helps keep my life in perspective and keep the memories at the surface:)
Being legally blind just means your vision is particularly bad without corrective lenses. I'm legally blind and I have perfect vision with my contacts or glasses. This tattooer just wanted to make excuses for the shitty quality of his work.
Being legally blind means your vision is 20/200 or worse after being corrected with glasses or contacts. There is no such thing as "legally blind without my glasses". If your vision is better than 20/200 with glasses in even one eye, you are not legally blind.
I don't know if other countries are different, but in the UK, legally blind means it can't be corrected with glasses. That "artist" sounds dodgy af.
It's like that here as well. I'm legally blind because I can't see on one eye and see badly with the other and no amount of glasses or contacts can fix it (because it's the optic nerve). If you can see 20/20 with glasses, are you really blind at all then? You can see perfectly fine by your admission after all.
@@AbusiveExclusive countries are different. In my country you can be legally blind even if your vision can be corrected with glasses as long as you score below a certain score. The reason being that if you score below a certain point, even if glasses/contacts allow you to "see" enough to function, the correction they provide is still below what would be required to have "normal" vision.
Microneedling shouldn't be done at home, so you'd be fine saying it isn't safe. It's basically as dangerous as home tattooing (it's basically the same technique: poking needles into your skin over and over) and we all know how you feel about that :')
In regards to the legally blind artist video - I am legally blind without glasses. However, with glasses I can very much see and I'm a professional illustrator. Legally blind covers a wide range of visual impairment. Pretty sure dude was just a bad tattoo artist.
That girl really unintentionally caused a lot of harm leading into her tattoo horror story with the guy’s disability. Doesn’t matter that she put that disclaimer in the description. As a legally blind person myself I’ve had people try to invalidate me at every turn with my vision loss because I could draw well. As another has mentioned blindness is a spectrum and is determined not just by your acuity. There are amazing artists that that girl’s video is now going to directly impact because someone didn’t listen to the end or read that disclaimer

My first and only tattoo is on my wrist above my SH scars. It says "you are loved" with a lavender plant. In my first 18 years of my life I never felt loved. That all changed when I fell pregnant with my son and fell in love with my partner. I got it done earlier this year and I still love it. It's a permanent reminder that I have love in my life after all the abuse my family have me.
The second one is called social anxiety and fear of rejection, it very much sucks
I just became a tattoo apprentice 3 weeks ago, and now every time i post a video about my progress i think to myself "i hope im doing everything right so no tattoo reaction channels get ahold of my video to blast me" and i think of you 😭 i have to remind myself theres millions of tattoo videos and the chances of me doing something so wrong that i get called out for it are slim. Love your vids and Im happy to be here!

Reasons for tattoos: mostly emotional stress management 😅 the adrenaline and making plans to have a day for myself getting inked is my self care.
But truly I use it as a way to reclaim my body and to literally grow confident in my skin. I feel so much prettier. Cheers!
my artist put 27 hours of work on my body and in our last session I forgot if I told him I wanted a part in red. So I asked what color he was making that part. and he was making it red (I did tell him, just forgot I did) he asked if that was alright. so I said I wasnt sure I had asked him to make it red but that it would've been fine and cool either way. he said im always such an easy client. and I was like...are you sure?!?!?! ive always been afraid I was a difficult one. I think contacting and talking about what YOU like about THEIR work will always be scary but very important.
Accomplishment of the day; I have just watched every. Single. TikTok react from 1 to 82!! Took me two weeks, but it was awesome.

4:30 That’s me EVERY time. I also have trouble describing the vision in my head, so my messages are always minimal information. I’m then nervous the entire wait wondering if they understand what I’m going for.
I have this exact same problem and everyone I know says I'm definitely overthinking it but it so doesn't feel that way in the moment lol
I get tattoos because I'm a very nostalgic person and having tattoos is a great way to keep those memories with me all the time. Plus the art is RAD.
That Japanese backpiece is so fantastic. And yeah trying to peel second skin off your back yourself is a bit tricky lol
I started getting tattoos because my blank skin just didn't seem correct. Like something was missing. Every tattoo I get feels as if it was always meant to be there. It's kind of morphed into getting tattoos because it's one of the only things I can control. I have a bunch of health problems and I have no control over anything other than my hair and tattoos. It's also very grounding when I come out of a seizure to see the colorful skin and recognize the portrait of my cat (rip) or something else.
i get tattooed as a form of self expression and as a confidence booster! as a trans person with a history of body image issues it helps me feel more in control of my appearance, plus i get to put beautiful art of things i love on myself so what's not to like
(and while i'm here i have a funny story, i just got a pet portrait done and since he's a white cat and i'm very pale the artist opted to not color in his fur, just do outlines and face and shading. and it looks great but when it was done and it started oozing under the second skin it looked like he was bleeding from his eyes 😭)
Also washing my new tattoos feel sooo good, i can finally carefully gently itch them and the cool water relieves any inflammation
I love watching your videos, I have my arms mostly tattooed but I’ve spilt it which the right arm shows all my favorite things and the left is for family reminiscing my family members who passed and I was close to

I honestly don't think the legally blind tattoo artist did a bad tattoo because they're blind. I think they were just a bad tattoo artist 😂
I’m a tattoo apprentice, and there was another apprentice who started around the same time. She was progressing a lot faster than myself, and graduated onto skin. Her tattoos varied in quality, often super shaky lines and scratchy shading. We chalked it up to her being new. Unfortunately, she blew out someone’s arm, and cut them badly, and was removed from taking clients. When my boss spoke to her about it, she got super defensive and blurted out ‘you know I’m legally blind right!?’ And we had to let her go 💀 we had no idea!! She never mentioned it!
Being legally blind without glasses doesn't mean he can't see with them. I have an uncle who is legally blind without contacts AND glasses and he drives, we used to ski, etc. As long as he wears them (both the glasses and contacts), he can see. So I don't think the scarring is because the tattoo artist was legally blind. I think it was because he didn't know how to tattoo well and probably went too deep with the needle. I assume he didn't tattoo her with his glasses off so I don't think it had anything to do with eyesight.
I never think about how many tattoos I have until randomly I'll be in the shower and look at my legs and think "damn, I got a lot of tattoos"
Last week I found pictures of me with no ink on my body at all and thought "that's just not me at all"
My tattoos are part of how I express and define myself, and how I enjoy my body while I am able.
So glad to see a new treacle video, I'm still feeling sorry for myself after having my wisdom teeth removed last week and could really do with the distraction! ❤

My tattoos are a part of ‘my story’. They all have meaning (though tattoos don’t have to have meaning, imo) and are a way of expressing myself, how I view & navigate the world and what is important to me. Now that I have my tattoos, I can’t imagine not having them. In a way, they complete and affirm me. If that makes sense. 😅
The nurse one was baffling to me. I have seen soooo many nurses with tattoos... Like.. whole sleeves, even hand and face tattoos. What the..
I started getting tattoos to cover self harm scars because I wanted to put something beautiful rather than difficult to look at on my arms, then I realized I love tattoos 😂😂 now I have them everywhere and I couldn’t be happier

What made me get tattoos, I got one as a memorial for my late dog. After that I had so many ideas for more and I couldn't stop.
Reason for my Tattoos
1st: I was 18 with money and wolves are cool
2: I love owls and Athena
3: (Medusa Athena shield) started as another love of Athena and when I learned the meaning behind this style tattoo that also fit
4: my nerd sleeve. It is filled with all the nerd things I love and have formed relationships because of. (A little emotional damage, a lot of I like these things and want to show them off)
Edit: I forgot a tattoo, my actually 3rd tattoo was an aunk because i live them
Perfect timing. My mom just got back from visiting my dad un the hospital. We had to call an ambulance last night because of excruciating pain in his knee. He has a horrible infection and was on the verge of a sepsis. He has an artificial knee, that he got after a motorcycle accident decades ago. I dont have the best relationship with my dad but im worried sick about him. Especially because the stuff is treating him with such disrespect and disregard to his health.
With this video i can calm down and try to get some rest afterwards. Thank you for keeping me company with your videos and helping me to not completely loose my mind ❤
Ive got a lot of tattoos I designed myself so for me I like the idea of wearing my art and favorite things and memories as tattoos that are/ represent them.
The last video is the one that got me. The guy said he worked in pediatrics which means I imagine it would’ve been a patient’s parent who complained about his tattoo. Like, what kind of person do you have to be to have your kid in the hospital, but you’re worried about the nurse’s tattoo of his cats?
I only have one tattoo but its a stick n poke that a close friend of mine did (professionally!) when she was first starting her business, its a white oak leaf and its beautiful, every time I watch your videos I stare at mine and get a little spark of joy :3
Tattoos can be great icebreakers with so many types of people out there... I can imagine that would really come in handy working with people, especially kids who are scared or don't feel great. But yea, wether the other person likes or dislikes tattoos, they almost always got questions!

I was so excited to see a video from Wild Isley pop up in here (the color tattoo on dark skin one) because she is probably my favorite artist I've ever seen and I'm sooo sad that I live on the other side of the country from her and that her studio is in the middle of nowhere because she'd be my #1 choice for the botanical leg sleeves I want. I'm sure I'll find a wonderful artist in my area to do my legs, but I do hope to one day get a smaller piece from her that can be done in 1-2 sessions.

I can relate to the girl with anxiety; I submitted an inquiry to get my first tattoo to the artist I really liked but got rejected 🥺😵💫 recently I've been trying to find another artist in my area who's style I love (doing my research all over again) but I have to admit, it was super scary sending in that first inquiry, I have even more anxiety now that I've been rejected once 🫠...but I'm trying not to give up, especially after that tear inducing speech from the guy with the dandelion tattoo! 😭🥹

I had no idea you even could get rejected! Was there a specific reason? I met my current artist in January and that was that, match made in heaven. He likes the same music as me, same art style, etc. feels like a cool uncle 😂 and that’s after having another artist that… made me uncomfortable and wasn’t great at tattooing. You’ll find an artist perfect for you soon enough! Plus, you could always collect multiple artists’ work. ❤
@ghoultooth Yes, you can get rejected, mostly if the artist doesn't feel they can do your idea justice or if someone mistakenly thinks they can do any style. No, I didn't get a proper explanation, just a generic rejection response, & by the time my anxiety was back in check I felt it was too late to ask 😕. So instead of wasting my time any further, I decided to start my research again. I think I found someone else, but my anxiety is threatening to act up again as her books are getting close to opening 😅 Thanks for the support!

I've only got 1 tattoo (so far) but my reasons for wanting the tattoo I've got and future tattoos are a) Expressing myself, b) honoring my ancestors (I want to get a tattoo of a hummingbird with a bee or bees buzzing around it, to honor both of my late grandmothers) and c) it's friggin' art, and my body's a canvas! How cool is that?! I can just...BE art!
Yes, microneedling or dermarolling at home can be very dangerous because it can create tears in the epidermis that can lead to infections from skin to blood ones unless done professionally, also at home microneedling devices if left not properly sanitized or left on any other surface cannot be enough, anything could go wrong.
I would love to see you try that printer thing! And, I get tattoos to mark important eras or moments in my life. I'm due for a new one but now comes the deciding part! Just found your channel and I love your vibes! :)

I feel the exact same way about contacting tattoo artists 😅 I get tattoos because I've had a really tense relationship with my body, I have a few chronic illnesses and had a difficult time with infertility and pregnancy. I got my first tattoo in January and have two more booked. It's my way of showing that my body is mine and honouring how far we have come together. My body has always felt like it belonged to an endocrinologist and doctors, then the baby etc, so now I'm taking it back.
I've been tattooed by a visually impaired tattoo artist before! She was incredible, on the outside of my ankle/heel too so not an easy placement ❤
i get them bc im disabled and have a strained relationship with my body, and it's so much easier to appreciate my body when it doubles as a canvas for cool art :)

tattoos, to me are a way to make my dream self come to light. someone who walks around with literal artwork on their body, some meaningful, some not, but that's the beautiful thing, its my body and i can get what i want. i think being heavily tattooed is absolutely beautiful and i would love to get there someday.

I get piercings and tattoos to express myself, our bodies our canvas. We get to design our own bodies how we see ourselves.
I get tattoos in part to cover scars, but mostly as a way of reclaiming my body as mine. I’ve been through more in my 20 years of life than most people would in 40. It’s been hard to connect with my body after everything that other people put it through, but my tattoos have helped massively with this (there are other things that have helped too). 3/5 were done to mark recovery milestones so they serve as a reminder of how far I’ve come.
They’ve made me so much more confident. They gave me strength and they gave me freedom

I started getting tattooed because I just always loved it. My tattoos are also my security blanket. I know they make me more noticeable, but they also don't? It's strange, I know, but I'm sure more socially anxious people understand what I mean. And I also started getting them because I was a rebellious, wise-ass teenager and my mom was (and still is) militantly anti-tattoo. I've never liked being told what I can or can't do with my body

I got my first tattoo last month. I have severe, chronic health issues. I have had many surgeries, including several brain surgeries in 2020. That means I have several surgical scars. Most of the people who touch me are doctors. I feel like I have very little bodily autonomy. I also always used to be very thin, but my health issues and medications caused me to gain about 70 pounds over the past few years. I have always loved tattoos but have been warned away from them for career reasons. I finally decided to just go ahead and get one to give me something on my body that I decided on, that I could look at and be happy with. I absolutely love it. I got a portrait of the cat I grew up with stylized like Luna from Sailor Moon, sitting in a moon, with the brooch and sparkles. It makes me smile every time I look at it. I haven't smiled when looking at my body in a very long time, so I'm so glad I finally got my tattoo.
I always been fascinated about tattoos since I was little kid so I always imagine my older self with tatts and I actually been getting tatt since I'm 17 and I love my tatts they're the story of my life and the things I enjoy I hope little me is proud
I get tattoos because they make me feel safe and happy. They are always there and as a collctor and art lover, i love my permanent stickers on my skin~

I get tattoos because this 8s the only form of relaxation of my social anxiety. Imagine fighting NOT to fall asleep when tattooed and fighting TO fall asleep when you should be sleeping for the sake of your mind 😢
To the question of why get tattoos... because I was a self harmer and have struggled with depression since I was maybe 7 or 8. I'm from a family who doesn't believe in mental illness or getting help for somebody who is just being dramatic and once I got to the point I couldn't bottle or hide the pain I found an out to release my problems not caring about the scars. Not great but it worked until a year before I found out I was going to be a mom when I got my first tattoo. Whenever I get to the point of thinking I should hurt myself or am about to I schedule a appointment and get something pretty that has real meaning

I got tattooed because I love the pain and I love the ending result. I spent hours trying to custom design in my tattoos. Show that no one else has 1 like it, but they're mostly of my pets/ dogs😊🐶
