While I don't think this product deserves a second video (or even a first video, but here it is) it really bugged me that Steve took the thing apart and removed the fans without putting them back in and testing them, blowing in the correct direction. It was such a major point of contention that's easily reversed that I thought it was obvious that he'd do that, just to show how stupid the design was.
This has to be the funniest review seen in a while - how about reversing those beautiful snap in tiny fans to see if the product can do anything - like pull more exhaust air out - but like you said there's that much plastic in the way anyhow that whatever potential gain would be negated by physical blockage ...
The thing I can't get over is the fact that this isn't the first time an aftermarket console cooler has put intake fans blowing the wrong way against the consoles exhaust. I remember coolers for the xbox 360 that had the exact same problem.

I bought the exact fan in the thumbnail. At the time I lived in an upstairs apartment that shared a climate with The Nine Hells. Not only did it keep my PS5 cool, but my apartment was much more comfortable too.

I didn’t even realise people attempted to cool their consoles. When I was a console gamer, I never worried about temperature and my console never died. My PS3 is still running all these years later. I’m starting to think that I’m too invested in cooling my PC.
@@mustafam3285 Indeed. Unless you're overclocking, temps don't matter much. 90C CPU temp? It's actually fine: 90C is hot to us, but CPUs aren't human and operating at 90C is within their specifications.
I'm sure they thought of that but didn't wanna encourage anyone buying the product in any scenario plus I'm willing to bet it still wouldn't of improved the stock PS5 thermals.
I don’t think that would actually change much, sure now it’s blowing the right direction, but there’s also so much plastic in the way for the internal fan that it might still make less air flow outwards. So at best it would perform at stock levels I’d say

I've recently stood my PS5 Horizontally and to my fortunate surprise the modem has always remained cool. I've also found that after I use the modem, I turn it off at the power switch, and put a pillow cover over the modem to protect it from dust. So far it has worked for me!
I was kind of hoping the video would reverse the fan direction and measure the results just to show the difference between the stock device had it been configured correctly.

It's not a fragile device by any means, not when fully assembled anyway

most usb type b cables have a raised USB logo on the top side

Can you try turning around the fans to see if it actually does anything?
Yeeee
i commented that then seem your comment, so i deleted mine.
I was wondering the same thing. Since it looks like it is pretty easy to switch around. Will actually take some activity on the part of the consumer but it might help? Who knows, probably would still be a waste of money.
I don't think it will help cooling. Since the fans are so small and the fan vents are small
Can we have a regular GN section that's just Patrick being quietly sassy about sub-par products?
"`...one of the worst products I have intentionally paid for."
Steve, what secret are you keeping from us?
He did buy the AMD mountain bike....
There was the NZXT H1 which literally caught itself on fire...
This has to be the funniest review seen in a while - how about reversing those beautiful snap in tiny fans to see if the product can do anything - like pull more exhaust air out - but like you said there's that much plastic in the way anyhow that whatever potential gain would be negated by physical blockage ...
thanks steve, you save me some money from not buying these third party cooler
better use that money to buy games on ps store deals
The thing I can't get over is the fact that this isn't the first time an aftermarket console cooler has put intake fans blowing the wrong way against the consoles exhaust. I remember coolers for the xbox 360 that had the exact same problem.
Nyko Intercooler, all versions XD.
I completely lost it when you opened that huge cooling base for the it only to have two 80mm 5v fans:-)
Honestly, I doubt they are 5v fans. Based on the RPM, I think they're 12v fans running at 5v
I really doubt that 2 fan is more than 40 or 50 mm, those blades are way to small for a 80 mm fan. You can clearly see that at the 7:30 timestamp
@@vukkzor it's a 80mm fan the large hub is common in cheap fans.
@@alt5494 I dont wanna argue over such a miniscule thing but that fan isnt a 80 mm fan thats for sure, i had the "pleasure" to replace a few hundred 80mm fant in the past 15-20 years and none of em had that big hub compared to the blades, also if you check the holes for the screws in the corners and than you can see the proportion isnt right, its way to big.
@@vukkzor 80mm fans are measured by the frame because of their use in servers. 80mm is 3.15 inches in the shot the fan is about the same size as Steve's palm. Which in adult males is between 2.75" and 4.25" across. no where near to 40mm (1.57") or 50mm.
I know it will be still fail but I want to see you flip the fans around, dremel out or remove the grilling and retest as a best possible scenario test as if they had "done it right".
I'm almost as amazed by the fact that the system runs even that much cooler when you take both side panels off.
6:45 they cheaped out so much in the manufacture of this "gadget" that they couldn't spare the cash to put 4 screws per fan compared to 2. A truly marvel of (cheap) engineering!
Mindblowing that they were able to design something that fits to the PS5 but not able to position the fans the right way round (exhaust instead of intake)
You do know flipping the fans, it will change from intake to blower right? Dummbass these days. If flipping a fan around is too hard maybe try licking your ass? Lol
"Indicator" is what we call a turn signal in the UK, so let Patrick know those LEDs are there to tell other gamers which way your console is turning at an intersection
Its heartwarming to know those popup accessory makers have just as hard of a time getting ps5s as we plebs do, since they can't possibly have designed these products if they actually had one

Hey Steve, did you see that AMD finally admitted the USB dropouts issue when PCIe 4 is enabled? They made an official post on the AMD subreddit
I had read something about this at some point. What chips/boards are having this issue? I’ve been running an X570 Strix-e gaming, 3900x and an RTX 3080 and haven’t noticed any dropouts.

I bought the exact fan in the thumbnail. At the time I lived in an upstairs apartment that shared a climate with The Nine Hells. After seeing how the fan actually functioned I immediately discarded it.
Ultimately I went with the best solution possible in my situation. I bought a lower end Portable AC Unit from Best buy. Not only did it keep my PS5 cool, but my apartment was much more comfortable too.
I love how in the "exhaust heater" they used them old edge blade server fans that whine at the same volume as those ripsaw evils in the film "screamers" with Peter Weller!
"far louder than any console is natively"
Launch PS4 PRO: Not so sure about that buddy!
My launch PS4 Pro was fine and I find it hard to believe even the noisy ones could be nearly as bad as launch Xbox 360s.
My non-pro was way louder than my pro. Some friends had the same issue, some did not. You just couldn't be sure. Maybe replacing the thermal paste or something like that could have helped, but I never tried.
my roommates pro sounds like an airport.
@@hanfred I had a launch Pro, and it got stupidly loud over time. God of war or Warzone put it into meltdown. I reapplied thermal paste, cleared every inch of the console with an air can, didn't help.
@@highmm2696 It was a launch model too. Good to know that I didn't open it up for nothing then. ^^
A SUGGESTION FOR APRIL FOOLS(Attempt № 2):
Perform some thermal testing for a very old computer(preferably 80s microcomputer or even an IBM PC compatible) with one twist: pretend that they are some new stuff.

Would've been curious to see what would've happened if you had flipped those fans around.
Yeah, would have been usefull to just see how useless it really is if the fans were in there the right way :D
I thought the same.
Sad thing is that people actually buy this garbage all while thinking they’re protecting their systems but it’s actually harming them....
Many years ago I was a supervisor for the videogame department of a Fry's Electronics. These types of devices have HUGE mark up and we were encouraged to sell them due to that reasoning.
I always told people, when asked, to not waste their money and they would in fact hinder more than help.
By the way, I was the best marchandised area in my store during my time and my margains were the best in the stores history(for the department).
Customers appreciate honesty with their pocket book.
Honestly even without thermal testing, the explanations alone would convince most people not to buy this
I'm a simple man, i see Steve calling something a scam, i Press like and prepare the popcorn 🍿
Did you test the "rear-heater" with the fans turned around? I would really like to know if it actually cools the console a bit.
it mostly blocks the exhaust, so I don't think it would help much.
@@proCaylak i mean, if the fans are actually pulling air out of the exhaust, it could work in theory.
Edit; nvm, you mean the base one. I meant the one on the back
I bet it would help a little if it the fan was mounted correctly. To pull hot air out of the console.
I'm surprised he didn't run this test as part of the suite
They won't, they hinder airflow, same crap as those fans for the Xbox 360 years ago. The fans couldn't even move enough air, and the holes for the fans obstruct even more. So it's best to avoid them.
I've never bought any add-on fans for any of my consoles over the years as none of my console ever needed them.
IT IS AMAZING HOW YOU REVIEWED THESE PRODUCTS. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE DETAILS, especially like the reading you did on the box, like when you read how it said "heat your ps5". Thank you so much for this. and your advice! I love how said " how genuinely stupid this product is"!

And the reviews are pretty good. Convinced they people who bought it that it was working as it should. One of many reasons this channel is important.
I remember buying these for my PS3 and realized how worthless and noisy they were at doing their job. Shame to see the scam still stays strong with the current gen.
look you can tell it's working by how i can't feel hot air coming out of the console any more
I didn’t even realise people attempted to cool their consoles.
It's actually fine: 90C is hot to us, but CPUs aren't human and operating at 90C is within their specifications.
turn the fans around on the back "cooler" and see if that does anything.
"NEW DESIGN" --- you can imagine the rest of the commercial
I'm sure they thought of that but didn't wanna encourage anyone buying the product in any scenario plus I'm willing to bet it still wouldn't of improved the stock PS5 thermals.
I don’t think that would actually change much, sure now it’s blowing the right direction, but there’s also so much plastic in the way for the internal fan that it might still make less air flow outwards.
So at best it would perform at stock levels I’d say
Like GN stickied on their comment "Like we said in the video, flipping the fans is pointless because (A) this thing screams and you shouldn't use it anyway, (B) the plastic impedes more airflow than the fans add, (C) attempting to accelerate the exhaust in this manner is only going to make things worse."
I'm a little surprised that you didn't flip the fans to see if they'd actually work as intended if it weren't for shoddy assembly.
He did, but didn't show in the graphs. He said though that even turning them around is still a worse result than stock because the thing has to little hole area and obstructs airflow.
Maybe if they also cut away the obstructing plastic it might help slightly.
This is was already pretty funny, but I lost my shit at "PS5 heating device".

I've recently stood my PS5 Horizontally and to my fortunate surprise the modem has always remained cool. I've also found that after I use the modem, I turn it off at the power switch, and put a pillow cover over the modem to protect it from dust. So far it has worked for me!
I was kind of hoping the video would reverse the fan direction and measure the results just to show the difference between the stock device had it been configured correctly.
would have been negligible since your still using shitty cheap tiny fans
