Were they trying to say that writing mean things on social media is okay if the claims can be proven? I would genuinely love to ask the writers what they were thinking at the time.
Why would anyone write an attempted suicide scene where someone "can't get the cap off"? Why not make it realistic by having the girl take the pills, OD and barely survive because her friend found her in time? Y'know, like an ACTUAL ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. That way they could build some real tension and show the consequences of bullying graphically, instead of making the audience burst out laughing.

@@dirrdevil a year late but w/e. it might be different in other countries, but in canada even a thwarted attempt like the one the movie tried to portray would result in the person who is suicidal being taken to the hospital and put on a 72 hour hold in the psych ward.
If anyone tells me that this film captures the true evils of the internet I will tell them that this is SUPER unrealistic. Cyberbullying isn't entirely the internet's fault, it's mainly the fault of people who get a kick out of making someone's life on the Internet hell.
+TheCrystalMelon You BECOME the troll. But yeah, true that. It's difficult to take ANYTHING on the internet seriously once you saw how silly it all is because you can find all the stupid stuff on 4chan, just even dumber.

I think the person is referring to the scene where Taylor responds to him by saying "It's not really the same thing. I mean, you really are gay. What they're saying about me isn't true." I thin he/she is questioning why the movie seems to think that he should take the insults because he "really is gay."
Back when I was in Hs this movie came out and my English teacher tried to make it a serious lecture moment. For a week we watched it in parts and then the part when she couldn’t get the bottle open, everyone laughed in unison and the teacher got so mad she turned it off and we had reading hour. She said we ruined the message. Lol

If you want a good story involving an Internet troll driving someone to suicide, play The Cat Lady. That game handles the subject with care and accuracy and portrays it in a realistic light (well, at least as realistic as you can get in a surreal horror game), unlike this unintentional comedy.
+Xiao Andy if someone is to stupid to ignore move on block delete their account, they would most likely be to stupid to escape a housefire through either a window or door.
Just an FYI, after any attempted suicide attempt you always go to the hospital. It's protocol so when she was in the hospital after the pill incident it was an accurate depiction of what would happen.
I believe it's so that if police suspect that a person is attempting to kill themselves, they have reason to go into their house and help them. They wouldn't need a warrant or anything.
This is such an abhorrent rip off of the book 'Destroying Avalon', I'm surprised they weren't sued. The book is very good, it doesn't blame the internet but the people who use it as a tool to take bullying beyond school walls. It's about a girl moving to the city and having a bit of difficulty adjusting and ends up rubbing a few people the wrong way. Typical, normal shit. She becomes close friends with some kids who you could call outcasts. One of which, who becomes her best friend, is confused about his sexuality, this confusion which is exasperated by bullying. So the book takes this real, plausible scenario and adds an anonymous message board that the students use, on the board a user starts spreading shit about Avalon which, in turn, makes the real bullying worse. The book at no point says it's the internets fault and there is nothing Avalon can do because they're talking about her, not to her. Typical high school drama shit. The book even goes into detail about the bullying experienced prior to the board and it shows that this abhorrent behavior exists regardless and the internet is simply a new platform for these cunts to exercise it. I don't want to spoil the book too much but as someone who was bullied in highschool, the paranoia, shame, guilt, fear, obsession is all there. It Perfectly captures the mindset of someone in that situation. Seriously, shoot this movie between the eyes and read 'Destroying Avalon', it's really good.
Perhaps the reason the movie wasn't sued was because the author of "Destroying Avalon" didn't want Avalon to be associated with someone so stupid they can't get the cap off a childproof lock.
The fact that she said making fun of somebody's sexual orientation wasn't as bad as saying somebody is a slut is the most offensive thing in this movie I swear to god. It takes a real problem and dumbs it down to ridiculousness that could have actually been a good movie but nope they had to take the lifetime movie way. Welcome to high/middle school health classes, Cyberbully,
Cyberbullying is going to be a thing of the past a few years from now. Once kids start growing up with parents that lived in the internet golden age they'll start being taught the basic rules of using the internet 1) think through literally everything you put onto the internet, including private messages 2) don't click on suspicious adds or links 3) only download things from websites you can confirm to be legitimate 4) be wary of malicious users like hackers, scammers, or online predators 5) when you inevitable watch porn, delete your history and cookies Its thats simple
+Angus Silver Nah, cyber bullying won't go away, it will just become ineffective. It's like being vaccinated. Once you have dealt with it before, it doesn't effect you as much.
You sir, are intelligent. Smarter than these dumb shits who think that cyber bullying is a problem. Or at least more intelligent than radical feminists.
Honestly, my favorite part of this movie is and always will be when the gay character talks about how he messages this boy he liked in the group therapy. Not because of him, but because of the crazy, outlandish story the writers came up with. So a group of straight bullies find a gay kid, basically date him online, exchange heartfelt, personal information and I'm assuming NSFW goodies, and they they ACT IT OUT in front of him? In the LOCKER room? That sounds like the setup for a particularly strange yaoi highschool AU fanfic.
I'm sorry but the cyber bullies actually went to the trouble to make a mask of her and put on a skit? That's a step above. They should be excused for everything they did by virtue of effort alone. :)
We had to watch this shit in health class. I laughed the whole way through, and when the teacher asked how I would feel if someone said that online to me. I replied with "I'd block the person, or turn off the computer. Not cry about it." and a few people rolled their eyes. What? Am I supposed to fight the person? Smh.
I love how they fail miserably to show what happens with actual suicide patients. They aren't just let go into society like that. It's way worse. Not to mention how any bullies involved are gonna get even worse once they inevitably find out what happened.

I mean, I guess it's because real teenagers are too busy with school, but they could at least get someone who *looks* that young. When I was younger, I always assumed that's just how American teenagers looked (I'm from Australia), and I actually thought Lindsey Ellis (a.k.a. the Nostalgia Chick) was a teenager when I initially discovered her in the early 2010s. Eh, them showing up for a supposed suicide attempt isn't really a bad thing. But it looks like the girl is still taken to a hospital afterwards? I guess she would need to be admitted somewhere to be on a suicide watch and receive counseling, but if she didn't take any pills, there's no need to go to a hospital.
@@dirrdevil a year late but w/e. it might be different in other countries, but in canada even a thwarted attempt like the one the movie tried to portray would result in the person who is suicidal being taken to the hospital and put on a 72 hour hold in the psych ward.

I JUST REMEMBERED THIS WAS KUNG POW. It was the girl crying effect, right?
Good thing you guys haven't seen Kung Pow
wait the gay guy should be fine with gay insults?
+dah715
No?? Why would he like being insulted?
I think the person is referring to the scene where Taylor responds to him by saying "It's not really the same thing. I mean, you really are gay. What they're saying about me isn't true." I thin he/she is questioning why the movie seems to think that he should take the insults because he "really is gay."
@@Gammera2000 do you really think this movie is that smart?
@@samfisher3575 yeah no it's retarded beyond belief
This also implies that if you are a slut than this behavior is okay, and that a girl who has lots of sex doesn’t deserve basic respect from others.
Lol

Just an FYI, after any attempted suicide attempt you always go to the hospital. It's protocol so when she was in the hospital after the pill incident it was an accurate depiction of what would happen.
Wouldn't she also be arrested? For trying to kill herself.
Da Pumaface no, that's not how it works

I believe it's so that if police suspect that a person is attempting to kill themselves, they have reason to go into their house and help them. They wouldn't need a warrant or anything.

"Cyberbullying support group, for other people who couldn't get the cap off"
I'm in tears 😂😂😂
This video should be put in a time capsule.
Is that book recognizable outside of Australia
It's written in English so yes
Wheres Paul?
+gamingforge1 He is the walrus, goo goo gajoob.
Perhaps the reason the movie wasn't sued was because the author of "Destroying Avalon" didn't want Avalon to be associated with someone so stupid they can't get the cap off a childproof lock.
wtf did the little brother not get in more trouble?
Well, he got grounded. Do you want him to have a black eye or be put up for adoption? There's a fine line between a punishment and child abuse lol.

If only the world had listened...
Cyberbullying is going to be a thing of the past a few years from now.
Once kids start growing up with parents that lived in the internet golden age they'll start being taught the basic rules of using the internet
1) think through literally everything you put onto the internet, including private messages
2) don't click on suspicious adds or links
3) only download things from websites you can confirm to be legitimate
4) be wary of malicious users like hackers, scammers, or online predators
5) when you inevitable watch porn, delete your history and cookies
Its thats simple
5 is the most important
+Angus Silver Nah, cyber bullying won't go away, it will just become ineffective. It's like being vaccinated. Once you have dealt with it before, it doesn't effect you as much.
You sir, are intelligent. Smarter than these dumb shits who think that cyber bullying is a problem. Or at least more intelligent than radical feminists.
Cyberbullying is not going to vanish but those set of rules make people less stupid of clicking on obvious malware.
5) Never forget to close incognito mode. NEVER.

He wants to bully the gay kid....

Oh sorry. the Soap opera is called Verbotene Liebe ("forbiden love"). Mixed them up
Thanks. Needed it for, err.. Math homework. Yeah, math homework.

+OrdisDahCephalon ᅚ ᅚ I know, also, IS SHE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL?!
I'm pretty sure the character's supposed to be a teenager. Yeah, I don't really get why they cast twenty-something-year-olds to play teenagers. And what made me realise otherwise? Discovering that she earned her degree in film studies in 2003. *That's* how much they actually fooled me.
I am not sure of the specifics but casting someone underage is more difficult because those actors are subject to child protection and labour laws.
She was 19 back when the film was released
